to add to kristen, my fmil doesn't even have a dress yet. we leave in 2 weeks. i even sent her links to three dresses i found and she didn't like any of them. i'm over it.

SHOCKINGLY my monster in law bought one... an actual mother of the bride/groom dress from an actual bridal shop! I was so shocked because the first dress she bought was basically a long t-shirt from JC Penny... im not kidding! It was a t-shirt turned into a tea length dress!

You guys are great - thank you! This morning my planner's assistant emailed to say all the Value Resorts are sold out during our stay... I was starting to stress again, but then I read your replies. I feel better again! :goodvibes

Hmmm. Don't stress!!! I just check online and then called and was able to extend a reservation for two of my girlfriends at Pop Century. They were originally going to come in on Saturday but the flights were soooooo much cheaper on friday that it actually cost less to fly in Friday and pay for another night between the two of them. They're still saving over what a Saturday flight would be!!!

After I read your post though... I FREAKED OUT! :scared: :scared1: But, like I said, I was able to find availability on line and then I called and added on the extra night no problems!! You know how ressies are always changing. So I'm sure it will all work out and people will get there shtuff together.

(I'm finding that focusing on calming others is easier than focusing on calming myself, is that messed up or what?!? :grouphug: )

It is a horror reading about all these room and transportation problems. We are having an Epcot wedding this November and the room block is what is throwing me. At the moment we have 27 room nights blocked off at 3 resorts. My question is the people that are booking so late - do they get the discounted rate and is this part of your room block (although if they miss it it is their own fault)? Have you been able to call and add rooms to your block if the blocked rooms are full? Everyone seems gungho at the moment but who know what will happen when they actually have to start planning.

I really want everyone to stay in the resorts we chose because as said previously, our ceremony is in Epcot before the park opens and they will need transportation to get into the park.

Thanks,
Linda

Yes - even if they have to book at Disney resorts that aren't in your block, they still get the discount and the rooms still count toward your room block and the room-night minimums. :thumbsup2

Our block was released on January 3rd, a month before the wedding. I would imagine that if we'd called before then we could have added rooms to our block, but now we're out of luck. I warned everyone about January 3rd, but did they listen? Noooooooooooo! :rolleyes1

Now I'm wondering if people will be similarly clueless about the transportation schedules... "Oh, do you mean I was supposed to *keep* that?" :headache: I really really really don't want the hassle of welcome bags, but it seems like they might be the only way to communicate some of this info to those guests who skim/ignore the Very Stern Wedding Emails I send! :lmao:

Interesting, one of my friends wants to stay at the AKL (which is not one of our choices). Will they get the room discount there even if it is not on our list. I do know that it counts toward our minimum, but can they get the discount?

That I'm not sure about. I was under the impression that you could only get the discount if the blocked hotel you wanted was sold out, but you might ask your sales person. It's sounding like they're more and more flexible on the room block these days.

Alternatively, you could add AKL to your bock - you can have up to four hotels. We added the Contemporary just so we could stay there for cheap on our honeymoon! ;)

Ok - that makes more sense - you could only get the discount if your blocks were all sold out. For some reason I kept thinking 3 hotels not 4. As long as it is 4 if some friends want to stay there I will add that to our block.

Thanks,
Linda

I don't think you need to go through all the hassle of welcome bags if you weren't planning on it - especially at this point in the game. You could write a form letter and put one in an envelope for each guest. Then mail them to the front desk of the hotel (would be much easier than mailing or delivering welcome bags). Or you could leave a phone message with each guest... depending on how many of them you have of course. Are you having a welcome event? If so, you could give out the information at that point.

For people considering doing 4 hotels instead of 3... I'm all for saving money on the honeymoon, and for that reason it's great to select 4. But it's really easier to have your guests in as few hotels as possible. It certainly makes for less time spent on the bus in the morning - as you could see from that bus schedule, those who get on first will be there for almost an hour.

I love this idea! I can't believe I never considered that. Thanks!

As for the four hotels and the bus schedule, now that it's sold out, no one will be staying at BoardWalk, so I'm wondering if I should rejigger the schedule after all just to save people from sitting on the bus for an hour...

I'm enjoying your planning journal! Beautiful choices with your gown, invitations, etc. I love, love, love that blue crystal necklace!

The transportation thing seems tricky. What a pain! If people end up having to take taxis, make sure they know where to go (ie one of your prearrranged bus stops and not the front gates of the park).

Good idea - I'm planning to send an email and the new transportation schedules (if necessary) in a week or two.

I just don't know whether we should drop BoardWalk Inn from our bus schedule or not. Some of my guests say they have made reservations, but they aren't showing up in the room block so I don't know where, and I'm too proud to phone them up for details. :snooty: So everything's in limbo....

Ack! Transportation is the thing that I've hated most about this whole deal. I thought Disney weddings were supposed to be easy to plan!

can your bw guests walk to the reception in epcot? j/w...

i like the idea of leaving letters at the front desk for your guests. that's a heck of a lot easier than these darned welcome bags...

Whew! Thanks for saying that, Caryn! If the Queen of the Adorable Welcome Bag says they're a hassle, I don't feel so bad for skipping them.:rotfl:

The BoardWalk guests could totally walk to the DP, but they can't get into the ceremony in Epcot unless they're on my bus.... :sad2:

lpizzuro123

Where are you having your guests meet for the DP? As of now our ceremony will be in Italy, our reception in ADH and then later in the evening our desert party will be in the UK. I know to get into the ceremony they need to come by special bus. As I am sure most will not be using a park ticket to go into the parks on that day, I believe they need to go into Epcot for the desert party with a Disney representative and we need to pay a viewing fee. I was hoping not to have to get a bus for this portion of our day - but where are you have your guests meet for the desert party? Should they all go in throught the International Gateway or through the front of the park. Will they be meeting a host to get them through? I know of at least 4 people that have an annual pass so hopefully we will not have to pay a viewing fee for them. Also, what about the bride and groom. If we have not activiated our Annual Pass so we have to pay a viewing fee?

Thanks,
Linda

P.S. sorry for all the questions but I can forsee lots of transportation problems and I want to stop them before they start.

lurkyloo
01-08-2008, 03:07 PM
We are sending our guests into Epcot by bus for that very reason. So the bus is going back to all four resorts to get everyone for the DP. And if guests are out and about, they have been told to get to a hotel on our bus schedule or use their park admission to enter Epcot and meet us at the UK.

You can have everyone meet at International gateway and go in with a Disney rep - we just didn't want our WDW newbie guests to have to figure out how to get the IG all by themselves.

You tell your planner in advance how many people will have APs, and then the Epcot rep counts them when you assemble for the DP (however, I have heard of them not checking). Like you, we didn't want to activate our APs yet, so we are paying the viewing fee for the bride and groom - we figure the $25 is worth an extra day on each of our APs!

Also, we have already overpaid our viewing and dessert party food fees because I realized the other day that the offician'ts flight leaves before the DP and I shouldn't have included him in the guest count - d'oh! :headache:

lpizzuro123

Thanks for your quick reply. So are you getting a bus for almost the entire day. As both our wedding ceremonies are in Epcot in the morning, the guests will have to get picked up early in the morning and brought to Epcot. After the ceremony they are brought to the reception and then after the reception they are brought back to their hotel. Our reception is scheduled to be over at 3:00 - not sure about yours. If yours is the same, are you then having the buses pick up your guests again around 7:00 or so for the nighttime desert party? Thats a lot of money for busses.

Linda

lurkyloo
01-08-2008, 03:51 PM
TELL me about it - that's why I hate hate hate DFTW's minimum-hours requirements for buses.

We actually don't need the bus to take guests from Epcot to the ceremony, but Disney is making us pay to keep the bus from the early morning all the way through to the end of the reception (2pm) because there's a five-hour minimum limit for using the buses. They won't let us have the bus come in the morning, go away, and come back in the afternoon. Grrrr.....

Then we have to have the bus come again in the evening for the dessert party, so we're spending a huge portion of our budget on something as unglamorous as a bus! :rotfl:

the welcome bags are a real sore spot with me. i didn't want to do them, but mommy won that battle. so i'm doing them. had i NOT done them, then i would have one less huge box to fed ex tomorrow.

i digress though from the real issue at hand. i think it ridiculous that dftw won't have a cm meet your bw guests at the ig. that is just so stupid.

i just figured out how much less my wedding would cost w/o the buses. i'd be able to have a desert party. AGH!

The transportation is really a big expense. We are trying hard to keep our number under 50 (or whatever the number is) so we only need one bus.

I guess both DF and I will also need transportation so I guess that is two limos.

Good idea - I'm planning to send an email and the new transportation schedules (if necessary) in a week or two.

I just don't know whether we should drop BoardWalk Inn from our bus schedule or not. Some of my deadbeat guests claim to have made reservations, but they aren't showing up in the room block so I don't know where, and I'm too proud to phone them up for details. :snooty: So everything's in limbo....

I would wait as long as you possibly can to give all the deadbeats :lmao: a last chance to book their rooms. Then you can review your room block - all brides can get a copy of their room block, just ask your planner or her assistant - and see where everyone is staying. I'd try to work out the bus schedule at that point. The least amount of time spent on the bus in the morning, the better. By that point you will be able to tell if anyone is truly staying at BW or not. If they're not, drop it from the schedule. You're most likely going to need to adjust your schedule anyway.

I'd also advise, if possible, to find out the EXACT location that the buses will be picking up your guests. For example, my guests that stayed at CBR were all in the same building. The bus pickup was almost immediately outside that building - NOT at the traditional bus stop that goes to the parks. It's easier at a place like BC where the buses all pick up in the same spot.

The transportation issue is a tricky one... but I think the room block was more challenging! I will say that we didn't have a DP... so I didn't have to deal w/ that aspect of it. Good luck to all!

The max per bus is 47. Also, if you can get your guests to stay at just 2 resorts, they can arrange for what they call a "one-way" bus that is cheaper than the charter bus - I wish we'd known about this when we were choosing hotels for our room block!

Do you really need a limo each, or can your DF meet you at your hotel/get picked up by your limo? Or, if you're staying in the same hotel but don't want to see each other, could the limo make two trips?

DisBride2007

Another possibility to save money... depending on whether or not you're planning on seeing each other prior to the ceremony... is for you and DF to take the bus! We did this - the bus picked us up at our hotel and took us to Epcot, where we met Randy for pre-ceremony pictures around World Showcase. Then after the reception ended, we took the bus with our guests back to the hotels. It was great!

lpizzuro123

Don't want to see DF prior to the wedding. If the limo could make two trips that would be great. I don't mind riding in the bus after the ceremony - or the two of us walking to ADH after the pictures - as long as it is not raining.

Linda

meryll83
01-09-2008, 03:26 AM
Does anyone know how many the limo seats?

I was thinking that perhaps the bride, her father, mother and bridemaids could all share the limo.

Would still be useful if the limo can pick up the groom and bestman + perhaps any male ushers first and then make a 2nd trip for the girls and dad.

I was then thinking that if the limo has to be hired for a 3 hour minimum, everyone else can get the bus to the reception, then the bride and groom can have some of their own photos done and then arrive at the reception in the limo. that would allow 1 hour before the ceremony, 1 hour during and 1 hour after while the cocktail party is on for the guests, then full use is being made of the limo.

lurkyloo
01-09-2008, 02:05 PM
The limo seats 8, and it doesn't have any time minimum - thank goodness!

OK, so what it looks like we're going to do is change the transportation schedule to eliminate BoardWalk Inn, but we still have to have four stops because apparently it's too far to walk to Port Orleans French Quarter from Riverside.

Unless... what do you guys think of just telling them to get a taxi to French Quarter? That whole "not my problem" feeling is starting to come over me again...:rotfl:

autumnbride2B
01-09-2008, 04:34 PM
If they don't want to pay for a taxi from POR to POFQ they could take the riverboat taxi/shuttle thingy. It goes from DTD to POFQ to POR and back again. It would take a little more time, but they wouldn't be able to complain about paying for a taxi. It is also a really nice ride.

Kristen14
01-09-2008, 04:35 PM
Do they have a rental car or anything? A lot of my guests are driving up from South Florida just for the wedding, so I'm having them all drive to one of the resorts in my block to catch the bus.

Lisella
01-09-2008, 04:43 PM
You are not ruining their wedding experience. You have told people what they needed to do - it was their choice to wait so long. If I wanted to do my own trip to Disney with no wedding involved, I wouldn't even bet on getting what I wanted by waiting so long to book.

If you told the people what the resort choices were and when to book by, then they should just have to deal with the bus not making a special pick up just for them. Simply make suggestions on how they can get to the FQ - like said, taxi or boat.

lov2b@disney
01-09-2008, 05:04 PM
It really isnt that bad of a walk- we stayed at riverside and walked to FQ- there is a nice paved path along the river-maybe a 15 minute walk
The water taxi is also an option

I think we may go for this location for our dessert party, it seems a popular choice, especially for any guest amount under 100 so you can't get the Itlay Isola ;))

Going back a bit now, but remember when you said you were only just over you minimum spend (I think it was about $600 over the 10k required if I remember right), was this before tax and service charges? Don't they have to be added on after the minimum?

Just trying to suss out what a reasonable budget should be for us.

We're only $60 over - hee hee! The minimum cannot include tax and service charge, so you spend the $10,060 and then pay tax & service charge on top of that. For us that was another $1600, but it can vary depending on which elements you pick - only certain things get a service charge (and they tax the service charge too - you should see the complex spreadsheet I jury-rigged to figure THAT part out!) ;)

you could "accidentally" copy and paste their reservation info into an email and "accidentally" send it to them, letting them know that YOU know they're full of ****. then let them know that they'll need to take a cab.

I definitely agree with Caryn on this... I don't see how they think that you don't know what day they made their reservations... you can find that out with any hotel and any wedding... silly guests :headache: :headache: :rotfl:

We're only $60 over - hee hee! The minimum cannot include tax and service charge, so you spend the $10,060 and then pay tax & service charge on top of that. For us that was another $1600, but it can vary depending on which elements you pick - only certain things get a service charge (and they tax the service charge too - you should see the complex spreadsheet I jury-rigged to figure THAT part out!) ;)

Do you have a copy of this spreadsheet I could use as a template? I'm not used to adding tax as it is, never mind service charges too! :rotfl:
My email is meryll83@hotmail.com and I would be eternally grateful for this - you can delete any personal info, it's just the template I could use help with :thumbsup2

My suggestion?

I would definitely let them know that you just completed changing and reprinting the transportation schedule because you just got found out that they were not staying at one of the hotels on your block (throw the date that they made the reservation in there). Let them know that Disney has been keeping you posted regarding your guests reservations for the purpose of transportation on the day of the wedding. Tell them if they choose to change hotels, then they will need to find their own transportation to one of the bus stops - tell them it is too late to make any more changes to your bus schedule.

And vent away! What are these people thinking? So sorry you have to deal with all of this.

Turning our attention now from depressing subjects like recalcitrant guests, we focus on pretty pretty accessories....

Here's how my fake bouquet for the Magic Kingdom photo shoot turned out. I bought it for 20 bucks at http://www.save-on-crafts.com/peony2.html and then added two more flowers that caught my eye at Michael's.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Planning%20Journal/IMG_4928.jpg

I caught Caryn’s shopping fever and have amassed a large collection of potential jewelry to wear with my dress, so I stuck it all in the lovely cake dome we got from our Crate & Barrel registry. I think I’m going to wear that necklace to the dessert party and my chandelier necklace to the wedding.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Planning%20Journal/IMG_4918.jpg

Speaking of the chandelier necklace, I couldn’t get it to turn out like I pictured it, so I finally decided to have a professional make it. I got a recommendation from a fellow Disney bride for Madam Fortuna, who sells on Etsy.com. She is assembling the necklace from my crystals right now. I sent her this picture of them arranged in the basic pattern I want:

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Planning%20Journal/IMG_4891.jpg

I was having a heck of a time finding a shrug or a bolero for the dessert party so I don’t get cold. I finally broke down and bought the bland, overpriced bolero they have at David’s and hired a seamstress to trim it with fur.

This was my inspiration:
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Planning%20Journal/fuzzshrug.jpg

This was the original bolero:
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Planning%20Journal/DavidsBolero.jpg

This is how it turned out:
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Planning%20Journal/IMG_4923.jpg

Next installment.... fascinators! They’re waiting for me in my mail today....

Oohhhhhhhhhhhhh Carrie,

I love the accessories. The necklace for the DP is great. I can't wait to see the chandelier necklace. I like the silk bouquet too. I was thinking I would do that too. I don't want to have the stress of trying to salvage my bouquet if we do our photo shoot another day.

I'm dying to see the fascinators now. popcorn::

Calla2 & Meryl - I can email you those things - just give me a day or two to get it all together :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for this - now I can stop making stupid guesses that are way out!

The bouquet looks really really pretty, I think we are also going to go down the fake flowers route, but you can't tell it's not real (at least not for photography purposes anyway! - Looks fab to me!;))

The shrug you have had made is really cute, and I look forward to seeing how the necklace is when it gets back to you!

And go you for saying stuff the guests who couldn't sort themselves out yet! :lmao: Do they think you don't have enough to sort out?!

Oooh, I know you're mega busy at the mo, but I just wanted to ask you about the town car thing you mentioned if all your guests are in only 2 resorts. Do you know any more details on this such as the cost difference to the coach? I know that you only found out about this at a later date so haven't managed to incoporate it yourself, but can you remember any more details on how this would have worked? I'm all for saving the pennies!!! If not, don't worry, I'll add it to the list of things to ask Heidi next time I email her!

It was 60 bucks - a total rip-off, considering it's polyester (not even satin-looking polyester). Pink feathers would be adorable! I almost trimmed mine in maribou, but then I decided it'd look too much like lingerie.

I like the silk bouquet too. I was thinking I would do that too. I don't want to have the stress of trying to salvage my bouquet if we do our photo shoot another day.

Condsidering how far away they are when they take your MK photos, I think a silk bouquet is the way to go! (I'm also doing my own hair and makeup - who can even see it? :cutie: ). $20 vs. $110 for a floral refresh - no contest!

Can you email me the spreadsheet as well, we dont add tax on here so like meryl I'm not used to working it out. thanks

You know, I've never even been able to get a quote on the cost of town cars because the DFTW people I've talked to are so against them! But I heard another bride mention something like $23 each way to take guests from the resort to the wedding. I asked around, and I guess there really have been problems with town cars not showing up, but there seem to have also been snafus with every other type of transport. :confused3

... A few weeks ago I asked for suggestions of things my Disney-hater guests could do in Orlando besides theme parks. KQAN gave me some super-helpful insider info - it's like having a mini Lonely Planet guide for my guests. I thought I'd repost it here for anyone with a similar need to entertain the Haters... :3dglasses

Things to Do in Downtown Orlando
- Walk around Lake Eola
- Rent a paddle boat on Lake Eola
- Check out the trendy boutiques, restaurants, bars, and historic homes in Thornton Park, just north of Lake Eola (Restaurants/bars include Dexters, Hue, Wildside, Shari Sushi)
- Check out the antique shops, funky boutiques, vintage clothing stores, restaurants, bars in the burgeoning ViMi neighborhood/Orange Avenue (a cool bar and live music venue is Peacock Lounge)
- Nightlife is especially good on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in the heart of downtown: cool bars include Eye-Spy, Independent Bar, and the Social and Backbooth for live music. Wall Street is also popular.
- Go to College Park, north of downtown, for antique shops, historic neighborhoods, and good restaurants and bars (Harmoni, Nonna, Jax, Alfonso's, Jade, K Restaurant)

The closest thing to “Orlando for Hipsters” is the Orlando Weekly. They have listings for bars, music, etc. http://www.orlandoweekly.com/

Getting to downtown is a bit squirrelly because there is some construction going on, and I’m not sure which exits are closed. I think the Amelia Street exit off of I-4 East will be best – it will probably take about half an hour to get there from Disney. I think this is exit 83B. Once you see the collection of tall buildings, you’ll know it’s downtown. Google Maps is your best bet, though.

Orange Avenue is the main street in downtown. Eye Spy is a cool hipster bar (indie music, hidden passageways, and secret rooms!) and you get to it by walking through Bar-B-Q Bar, another cool hipster bar, at 64 Orange Avenue. They don’t seem to have a website, but it is the corner of Orange and Washington. Next door is Independent Bar, or I-Bar. http://www.independentbar.net/ This place plays good music and has dancing, and it is SUPER hipsterrific (to the point that it kind of annoys me sometimes)! There are a good collection of other bars in the Orange Avenue/Church Street/Wall Street area, but many of them get overly crowded with the 20-22 year-old-crowd, play cheesy music, etc.

The Social (http://www.thesocial.org/) at 54 N. Orange Avenue, gets a lot of good indie bands. Peacock Room (1321 N Mills Ave) gets good bands too, and also provides a laid-back, diverse crowd. www.peacockroom.com

Winter Park- Winter Park is a suburb of Orlando but is adjacent to the historic center of Orlando, just off I-4. It is a historic, affluent, attractive little town.
- Go to Park Avenue for trendy, upscale shopping and restaurants. There is also a nice park along Park Ave called Central Park.
- Just west of Park Avenue is an up-and-coming neighborhood called Hannibal Square. It is home to the best bar in the area, Red Light Red Light.

To get to Winter Park, take I-4 east to exit 85, Princeton Street. Turn right onto Princeton, left onto Orange Avenue. Follow Orange Avenue for about 5 minutes, eventually it will turn into Fairbanks Avenue. A popular Irish pub is located here: Fiddlers Green www.fiddlersgreenorlando.com

Continue on Fairbanks another 5 minutes or so… on the right will be a cool restaurant and bar called Urban Flats: www.urbanflats.net

Turn left onto Park Avenue. This street is lined with upscale shops and restaurants. A fun wine bar is The Wine Room http://www.thewineroomonline.com/ where you can sample a huge variety of wines by the ounce.

Located a few blocks west of Park Avenue is Red Light Red Light. Most of Winter Park is upscale, but Red Light is definitely hipster-friendly. It is located in an attic above a French bakery; there isn’t even a sign, it just says “bar”. Inside you will find a huge variety of good beers, including a lot of Belgian ales, and a laid-back, diverse crowd listening to indie rock and watching weird movies on a projector. http://www.myspace.com/theredlightredlight

So I haven't posted my fascinators here yet because one of them was damaged when it arrived and I'm kinda worried about it :sad1:

I ordered them from a woman in Australia, and she is more than willing to ship me another, but it took a whole month for the first ones to get here, so there's not enough time. She has offered to send me feathers in an envelope, but I don't think I have the skill and dexterity to fix it - it's really delicate.

DF says he can try to fix it. Dunno what to do....

OH NO! Can she ship the replacement fascinator expedited or priority or something? Will that help speed it up? You say fascinators, does that mean you have two?? Did I miss something (most likely) or are you changing out the fascinator when you change out your jewelry for the DP? Can you use the non-damaged one for the whole day???

Thanks!

Yes, I ordered two - one I was pretty sure I wouldn't like and one that I really liked. I was right!

The one I really liked is broken:

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Planning%20Journal/teresa.jpg

The one I don't like as well is intact, but I think it's just too much with my outfit. Plus, the netting was sewn in funny and would have to be redone.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/bridalveil.jpg

I wondered about priority global shipping too, but the lady didn't seem to think it was an option - maybe it's prohibitively expensive... but you know, I'm going to ask about it! Thanks for the idea! :thumbsup2

I vote for sit down with some Crazy Glue and DF, and try to salvage the broken one you really like :thumbsup2

Maybe he'll be your hero of the day and fix it! :goodvibes

What's wrong with it, exactly? Is the comb broken, or something to do with the feathers?

You could always fill in empty spots (if it's feathers) with something else pretty and sparkly - maybe a couple of those little wires with crystals on the end that people put in their bouquets. (My friend's bridal bouquet had those - but they looked handmade to me, and very delicate - just a thin piece of craft wire doubled over so an AB Swarovski crystal bead sat at the end).

Well, anyway, you'd mentioned the lady possibly mailing more feathers - so that's where my mind went :)

Whohoo - shout-out to Disneyland! :woohoo:

One of the feathers snapped off about 1/3 of the way up the shaft. DF is going to try to fix it today - I worry because it's SO tiny and delicate that I can barely handle it. I was afraid to even try it in my hair!

:lmao: That's awesome! At one of my friend's bridal shower, we got put into groups to "design" a TP wedding dress - and then they brought out the husbands (playing video games in the back room) to judge!

But I think paper towels are definitely more useful in an emergency! I mean, think about it...

* Someone spills champagne on your dance floor - and you don't want guests to slip! If your dress is a little longer than necessary, you can just spin around and soak up the spill, no one will even know it was there :thumbsup2
* Before the wedding, you spill that last soda or beer out of nervousness - right on your dress! But luckily the dress is self-cleaning, so you just remove the offending towel and proceed down the aisle :flower3:
* New husband smears cake on your face? No problem, just wipe your mouth on your sleeve! ::yes::
* Gotta make a quick getaway after the wedding? The dress is disposable! Just remove and find the nearest trashcan! :bride:
* Short on funds for the honeymoon and after? Remember, just remove the tape and you have something useful for your kitchen that you didn't even have to register for

OK, so, I have tons of pictures today. Hooray!

First, we finished our programs, which I designed to coordinate with the invites. I copied a neat tri-fold layout in Martha Stewart Weddings and then modified it by gluing down one flap to make a booklet:

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Planning%20Journal/IMG_4935.jpg

Next, I fixed my fascinator. I thought it didn't look as full as the one in the picture, so I started adding feathers and couldn't stop! Not too shabby for my first time using a glue gun EVER! :rotfl:

Before, broken

After, plussed!
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t63/lurkyloo/Planning%20Journal/IMG_4947.jpg

Also, I decided to switch and wear the second fascinator to the dessert party (and remove my glorious necklace, which won't show with all that fuzz on the bolero - I may wear that blue topaz necklace I got on eBay instead). Here's Stitch kindly modeling the alternate fascinator:

And, at last, my necklace! Mme. Fortuna finished it over the weekend and sent gorgeous pictures!

:woohoo: I was just about to post and say - where are our pictures?!

Stitch looks lovely! Maybe he'd like to wear that to the wedding? You should give him his own seat. People will be like

On a totally off-topic note here, have you heard of MouseAdventure at DL? I know you live in SoCal like me - so if you hadn't heard of it, it might be fun for you and DH! (As he will be when it rolls around ;)) I won't go into details yet in case you already know what it is :)

Hey Lurkyloo, are you planning on doing something at the Solarium at the BC?

I checked it out, boy it was packed for the football games on Sunday. It seemed to be in use through out the day, always saw some people in it.

I just love the Morocco location(decided to try the Tangerine Cafe, very good). i bought a Fez.

SO I had to stop on over here and say love your choices and thanks for all the heads up about the transportation buses and about putting your own resort on your Room block. You definitely helped out a future bride save some cash!

Many thanks - looking forward to seeing your wedding details in the after pics!

Thank you for the kind words! :goodvibes I designed the program in QuarkXpress, which is pro graphic design software like Adobe InDesign. If you have Quark, though, I'll send it right along!

I'll tell you, though, I started by just taking a piece of paper and folding it in thirds with a half inch or so exposed for our names. I bet you could do this, measure it and then mock it up in MS Word or Publisher by eye. :thumbsup2

As for MouseAdventure, it's the scavenger hunt put on by MousePlanet twice a year - this year's 1st date is April 13th (Sunday). You get your own teams together - 2 to 6 people - and run amok in the park looking for clues!! :yay:

I'm thinking I have to get DB to do it with me - and another couple!

I guess registration fills up within like 2 days, and they haven't opened it yet - supposedly it will be the very end of this month. It's like $75 (so I'm told) per team, plus park admission if you don't have an AP.

Wendy, I'm TOTALLY not organized! I was up til 1am last night stuffing envlopes with contraband announcement/reception invites (don't tell Emily Post!!) so I could ship them to myself at WDW so I can mail them the day after our wedding so I can get a Florida postmark that no one will notice - who DOES that? But I have to post that I just got an email from FMIL - who I'd asked to be in charge of smuggling leftover treats out of the dessert party - asking, in all seriousness, if she thought EPCOT security would let her bring in a SUITCASE for the leftovers! :rotfl2: I love that woman!!

Guess double-posting is the popular thing to do today!

Anyway, Miss Lurky, a couple totally OT things I thought I'd tell ya (and the rest of you gals!) since I don't have a wedding of my own to chit-chat about  :

* I told DB all about MouseAdventure, and he looked intrigued! So I kept talking (hey, I know when I'm on a roll), and he finally got this wide-eyed look on his face and insisted we should do it by ourselves! "Another couple will slow us down!" :rotfl:

* He was up in Northern Cali visiting family this last weekend, and he said on his flight back the couple sitting next to him were wearing Mickey & Minnie wedding ears! So he says to them, "So, did you just get married?" :lmao: And they go, "Uhh, yeah". Way to go, smartypants! :thumbsup2

I have nothing to report - I forgot to take a picture of our announcements... again.... or our Really Stern Transportation Newsletter. Maybe I can post those tomorrow!

In the meantime, I feel as if a huge weight has been lifted now that we've shipped the ceremony and reception items, the dress, our mouse ear favors, the fake bouquet, my fascinators, and our announcements off to our hotel.

The thing I feel like I'm neglecting now is planning the honeymoon - my poor little PassPorter is half empty! I've been planning this darn wedding so much that I've almost forgotten the other component - a two-week stay at WDW, which many people could spend a year planning!

Hee hee! Since I've only been to WDW once and my parents didn't know anything about ADRs at the time, we are doing every sit-down place I've ever wanted to try! In chronological order starting with Tuesday, they are: Flying Fish, CRT, Le Cellier, California Grill, Bistro de Paris, Yak & Yeti, Jiko, Sci-Fi Dine-In, Brown Derby, Artist Point, Coral Reef, San Angel Inn, Jiko again for Valentine's Day, and Citricos. (burp!)

This is just a little thing, but ... I have been pretty freaked out that our wedding is going to be rained out and that we'll have to have the ceremony in American Adventure Parlor (a.k.a. the tired country club :cool2: ) instead of Morocco.

Today I asked my WP how the rain-out call is made, when it's made, etc. Now she and I haven't seen eye-to-eye on many things, and sometimes I've felt like we were in a silent battle over stuff, but today she really surprised me.

When she told me that the call to move the ceremony indoors would actually be made the night before my wedding, at 9:00, I almost started crying (but I don't think she could tell - I was trying really hard not to go bridezilla!). I mean, what if they call it at 9 pm, and then on my wedding day it's bright and sunny and we're all stuck indoors?

Well, after we talked a bit, she decided that she would just tell Epcot at 9pm that they couldn't make the call til 6:00 the next morning, which gives me more of a chance, I feel. And she said we could use AA Rotunda instead of AA Parlor as our rain backup. And then she said she and the rest of the staff would pray for a sunny day for us - I was so surprised and touched by that! :cloud9:

It's really nice, after the contentious relationship we've had, to finally feel more of the warm fuzzies I was expecting to get during the wedding planning process with DFTW! (And, yes, I know that a lot of that contention was cuz I went in guns blazing, trying to get the cheapest Wishes Wedding on record :rotfl: )

TOTALLY - I did the same thing! I mean, the wedding day is the pinnacle of my entire life, right, so I don't really need to think about anything after that :rotfl: :

It is a sick, sick disease that I have. I can take any normal conversation with any normal person about any normal topic and turn it into a wedding conversation. But is it kinda like if you think you're crazy then you're not crazy because crazy people don't know they're crazy? So if you're aware of your bridal behavior, is it really a disease??

Hee hee! Since I've only been to WDW once and my parents didn't know anything about ADRs at the time, we are doing every sit-down place I've ever wanted to try! Ooooh, you've got a couple in there that I wanna try! Le Cellier is AMAZING, as is California Grill. I didn't care for Bistro de Paris, but perhaps that was because I wasn't fully aware of my CM powers when I was a CP and ended up paying full price for my meal. I really want to try Brown Derby and Artist Point.... maybe since Chuck is working after the wedding before we leave for the cruise I can get my MOH to take to a romantic dinner?!? :rotfl: Again, I'm probably stuck with motorhome food, but you may want to add it Carrie, FMIL makes amazing sauce! She is Italian, ya know!

:cloud9:

How gracious of your planner! I haven't even addressed this issue yet. I'm too afraid! I'm choosing to ignore this issue all together!

And you did now, didn't you?? Mission accomplished. :worship: :worship: :worship:

Hee hee! Since I've only been to WDW once and my parents didn't know anything about ADRs at the time, we are doing every sit-down place I've ever wanted to try! In chronological order starting with Tuesday, they are: Flying Fish, CRT, Le Cellier, California Grill, Bistro de Paris, Yak & Yeti, Jiko, Sci-Fi Dine-In Brown Derby, Artist Point, Coral Reef San Angel Inn, Jiko again for Valentine's Day , and Citricos. (burp!)

Shall I add Fort Wilderness Motorhome to the list? :lmao:

If I"m looking at your meals right & guessing a bit...

So you are going to be at lunch at AK on the 10th for Yak & Yeti & Citricos on the 15th?

If so...

DH and I had dinner at Flying Fish last Saturday and it was great! Ask if Bob is working, superb waiter, he was great with suggestions(be it food or wine). We put the kids in the kiddie jail at BC(that's my eldest's nickname for any sort of babysitting service we've dropped him at while on vacation).

We've done lunch at LeCellier and it was good too(you should have seen the size of the kids's steak, my 5'4" 11 yr old couldn't finish it), DH's steak seemed smaller.:rotfl2:

Did you find a place for your get together at the BC?

But is it kinda like if you think you're crazy then you're not crazy because crazy people don't know they're crazy? So if you're aware of your bridal behavior, is it really a disease?!

EXACTLY! :thumbsup2

Also, you should totally take your MOH to some romantic dinners! Before I met DF I used to eat out at swanky restaurants alone all the time - I wasn't gonna pass up food that good just cuz I didn't have anyone to go with!

I'm running out of things to post about, but here's a picture of our Very Stern Transportation Newsletter, which we sent out the other day with the new transportation schedules we had to make. Now that I find out they use the plush DCL motorcoaches instead of regular Disney buses, the picture I used is actually wrong, but what the heck - my guests won't notice!

The guests can only get on the bus at our room-blocked hotels - or, I should say, the bus will only go to room-blocked hotels. This was such a pain for us (and the reason we had to change our schedule) because one couple booked at a hotel that wasn't in our block, and we didn't want to make them walk to a hotel that was...:headache:

Alright, Carrie, now I hope this doesn't creep you out... but we were totally hanging out in my dream last night :rotfl: And early this morning, halfway awake, I thought "Man, I gotta post this...". So here you go! :rolleyes1

Somehow, it turned out that we worked together. And when went to leave for the day, you opened your locker and found that someone had left you a bridal shower gift. It was a purple  leather Juicy Couture bag (which happens to be my fav brand - sorry!), and while you were oohing and aahing over it, you reached inside and discovered the second gift... a train ticket to BAIL! :lmao: Which was, apparently, a city.

While we were laughing, a man who had been standing nearby suddenly started dancing. And removing his Fireman's outfit :firefight. That's right - your third gift from this mystery person was a Fireman stripper  And the look on your face was  priceless!!

And then... I woke up :thumbsup2

PS - Might I add, at some point in this dream, I met your DF. He was mailing the CD of wedding music you had picked out over to the resort, and he goes, "Carrie's afraid they're not gonna play the songs at the right volume, so she recorded them all REALLY loud!"

Carrie,

Your transportation letter looks awesome. It's professional, fits in with your colors (which are great, btw) and it definitely gets the message across. Great job! Try not to sweat the bus issue anymore. It will work out. I didn't think there was ANY way our guests would all make it, but somehow they did.

Your big day is so close. Enjoy every minute of it and have an amazing time!

Oh, one more piece of advice about the bus. I can't remember if I posted this earlier. Give a checklist of the guests and which resorts they're staying at (and cell phone numbers, if you have them) to a trusted friend or relative, preferably one staying at the first resort at which the bus will stop. Then it's that person's responsibility to make sure the guests get on the bus and you don't have to worry about it anymore! :lmao:

And not sure if you read the post about what you would have changed, but definitely give your camera to someone so they can take pictures. Then you'll have some to tide you over (and us!) until you get the professional ones back.

Love the letter - I'll have to make a copy of it and make something like that for our ceremony.

I have a money transportation question for you if you might know the answer. You had said a while ago that if you had just two hotels for your guests to get picked up from you could just have used one way transportation. I was interested in learning more about this. Our ceremony is at 9:00 in Epcot and we are using three hotels. I would imagine the first pickup will be sometime around 7:30 - not sure about that. Anyway, if we keep the bus for the 5 hour minimum, that brings us to 12:30. By that time our reception will be in full swing. Now, do we need to keep the bus for another 5 hour minimum - which would bring it to 5:30. Which is way past the end of our reception. Our reception is at ADH in the Boardwalk and this is one of the hotels in our room block. Can we send the bus on its way at 12:30 when the 5 hour minimum is over and then just book two one way transportations for 3:00 when the reception is over. As the people staying at the Boardwalk will not need transportation back to their hotel, we will only need to provide transportation back to All Star Movies and Port Orleans French Quarter.

Does any of the above make sense and do you know the price of one way transportation?

Thanks,
Linda

hi carrie! i'm back! trying to catch up on everything i missed while i was gone. don't worry about the rain. the morning of my wedding i woke up at 4:30 and it looked really bad for me. marion and i had talked about rain the day before and she wouldn't even discuss it with me, rain was NOT an option. by 6am the morning of the wedding, things still weren't looking up. in fact, it didn't get sunny until i began my descent down the aisle. had it not been up to marion, i'm sure it would have been rained out...i think it was drizzling at around 5:30-6ish am...

So far, she is great! One caveat: She is really hard to get ahold of, but if she says she'll be there, she'll be there. I like how open she is to suggestions and willing to work with me on what I want. (I know some people have had trouble getting the look they want, but Patricia will work with you - no matter how long it takes.) Also she's really good at a more natural look, if that's what one wants....

Thanks for the great idea - I went and lined my FMIL up to do this!

And not sure if you read the post about what you would have changed, but definitely give your camera to someone so they can take pictures. Then you'll have some to tide you over (and us!) until you get the professional ones back.

Now don't hate on me everyone, but I like to art-direct my life, which means no wedding photos but the professional ones. :cool2: We even made my FMIL swear not to bring her camera to the wedding (she is an avid shutterbug, but we wanted her to see the wedding from in FRONT of the camera!). But the Roots have promised the pix will arrive shortly after we get back from the honeymoon, and in the meantime I'll post plenty of pictures of hotel rooms, things we ate, things other people ate, etc. until they arrive.

Once you've paid for the minimum, you don't need to pay for a second 5-hour block. So you could have the bus for 5 hours plus 3, or whatever you need.

The one-way mini bus costs $390 for 5 hours and $80 for each additional hour. The regular bus is $446 for 5 hours and $89.25 for each additional hours. Gee... that's not much of a savings! Does that help at all?

Oh my gosh - I hope my planner is as flexible as yours about the drizzle. I was thinking of you that morning and going, "I hope it doesn't rain! I hope it doesn't rain!" Now I can't wait to hear why you were grouchy til after the ceremony.... popcorn::

OK, OK, we'll all have to wait for the professional ones to come back. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

In regards to rain, I have my fingers crossed for you that the big ol' sun stays put. We were soooo nervous about rain. The day before our wedding, it POURED, as in a traditional Florida rainstorm, at exactly 24 hours before our ceremony. The worst thing was that the weather forecast was the same for the two days! Yet when our big day came, there wasn't a cloud in the sky. It wasn't too cold (even in January), and if anything, it was TOO sunny. We said it was worth it to pay extra for the weather. :rotfl:

I'm so glad I don't give a hoot about the ceremony as far as the vows go. We just agreed to Ron's super-duper non- religious cermony. :thumbsup2 I do hope you guys get it all figured out though!!

you girls are star trek fans, aren't you???

I'm actually a Back to the Future fan BIG TIME. I'm such a dork. But... since that's a universal thing and I didn't think to find the sheet music a million years ago...

But any time I can talk about the space-time continuum I'm all over it. I just see us causing a cataclysmic shift in the world. Two disney brides actually seeing each other in their dresses at the same time. This is one of the few things keeping me sane right now! :rotfl2:

Oh my gosh, you guys! So my boss called me into her office and spent 20 minutes giving me an even bigger list of things I have to do before I leave...

....and then she said I should come with her to the break room because there were cookies....

....and then when she got there the door was closed and she couldn't get it open, and I'm thinking "Big cookies!"....

....and then she opened it and everybody in the whole office shouted "Surprise" and DF was sitting there!!!

They gave us chocolate cake with peanut butter mousse, and a Precious Moments Disney cake topper and stuff from our registry, and Lunch with an Imagineer from the Disney Honeymoon Registry, and a bag full of Disney princess crayons, coloring books, pens, autograph books, puzzles and assorted other stuff - now I have something to do on the plane!

It was such a surprise - I can't believe DF has been in on it for a week, and they pulled one over on me!

I might get pix before I leave to share....

OMG Carrie! That's so great! I'm soooo happy for you. I can't wait to see some pics. I have to say those are some awsome coworkers and boss that you have there!!! So was all the extra work just a ruse then? That's what I'm assuming...

Okay, sorry for spuing my craziness all overy your PJ. I'll go back to mine!!

AWWWWWWWWWWE  That's wonderful!

What a great suprise! I hate that you have a million more things to do at work before the wedding, but while you're in the world...all that will just go away (or, if it's like my desk...PILE UP! and smiling at you when you get back :upsidedow )

Time is drawing near. At least I'll have Caryn's TR to keep me busy while we wait for you and Wendy to get married. I do hope you two get to take pictures together! Maybe if you both let your planners in on the fact that it's OK...it might work. All that glamour in one place! WOW...

I started laughing, if it helps... :rotfl:

Thanks! I just though with all the weather talk... we should be careful how we word things.

I was talking to our best man online through gmail chat and I asked him if he could pick Chuck and I up from the airport on the 16th when we get back from the honeymoon. He typed back: can't, have a VD date w/Erin. Erin is his wife, so that's fine and all, but I told him the same thing. Be careful how you word that. :rotfl:

I told him I would just ask one of my girlfriends and I typed: they don't do VD. He asked, Venereal disease or Valentine's Day... I responded: Neither.

And no this... :furious: :furious:

I thought this was only when the (t) word is mentioned...

We met because of Disneyland...

I was in line at Big Thunder Mountain and made a wish on a nickel at the pond. I wished to meet a guy who liked Disneyland and was straight. That night I got talked into going to the birthday party of a childhood friend I hadn't seen in a while, and I met his cousin.

On our first date, as the lights were about to go down on our second movie of the night, The Cousin casually mentioned that he had a Disneyland Annual Pass. I was like, "Wait - wha...?!!" and then had to wait 2 hours to talk about it!

...Next time I go on Big Thunder Mountain, I'm wishing for a Ferrari!

what a truly magical story! Can't wait for you guys to ride off into the sunset in your... Ferrari :)

:rotfl: NO! I saw them today, and there is NO WAY I am posting them here. I was wearing a scarf and had my hair in a bun, and then this lady who made me a shawl draped it over my shoulders and stuck a veil on my head - I looked like Bride Granny!!!

[QUOTE=Starr W.;22859432]Really cool! I would love to do the Lunch with an Imagineer(much better than getting a toaster or my favorite shower gift, those little tiny rose shaped soaps for your half bathroom, I think I still may have them stuffed in my linen closet.)

Hi Carrie, sorry if you have already answered this but would you mind telling me where your invitations came from? They're so unique and beautiful!

I designed the folder and the transportation card and had a pro printer run them off as color copes on nice paper (cheap!) , but I borrowed the actual invite design from one I saw in a magazine. My friend owns a letterpress, so he used QuarkXpress (wait - Adobe InDesign?) to lay it out and printed it for me. I am - as my grandma used to say - a lucky little bozo.... :lmao:

Well, not technically... ok, never. :lmao: We've never danced. I know... sad!!

But I think we'd be willing :) I mean, I'm always willing to look like a goof in public - and DB says he dances like a crazy man when he's had a couple drinks, so maybe that's what we need to do... :rotfl:

(Actually - at my friend's wedding in Sept - they started the chicken dance and no one was on the dance floor. DB felt so bad he dragged me out there to start it off, he said no one wanted to dance like an idiot because there was no alcohol :lmao:)

I don't know when your leaving(I'm hoping our friend from MI gets off today, as it's yucky here(I'm in the general area, Detroit is also my airport). She getting more snow up in MI, we got about 3" and freezing rain.

Looking very forward to your TR, as DH after eyeballing SBP and seeing part of Caryn's TR(where's the fainting smiley?), doesn't think SBP is for us for a VR. So he's thinking maybe a WISHES VR!! and would think an Epcot location would be nice(need the fainting smiley again!).

Best of luck to both of you and hope you will be as happy as we are(will be celebrating 14 yrs in September!).

OK, we're about to leave for the airport, so I popped in here to get one last fix for 2 1/2 weeks... I am already going through DIS Boards withdrawal....

Last night we got a package from Rootography containing all of this week's park hours and maps - so thoughtful! (And I should know, cuz I sent my guests park hours & maps too :rotfl: ). It was a really great send-off.

I want to thank all of you for all the great tips and ideas - and the emotional support:upsidedow - during the planning process. If I hadn't found this DIS, I would never have chosen a DFTW, and if I hadn't found this board, I never would have thought I could afford one! :thumbsup2
