Can I add the memo to my folks ressie that they are lethal drivers?! :rotfl2: They need LOTS of help and I worry about them having to back into a site. Can they give them an easy site, if I request it?

I don't know if they still do this or not, but they used to have a FW CM that would park your RV for you if you were having problems.

When you make your reservations you need to let them know the size of your 5th wheel and how big your tow vehicle is also. Also let them know of awning's and slideouts.

There are 2 pull throughs you could request, but it is only a request, I think they are in the 1200 loop, full hook up, not preffered.

Don't get me wrong, here. God bless them and I hope they have a wonderful and safe trip. But what the heck are senior citizens who are "new to driving an RV" doing pulling a 40' fifth wheel?:scared1:

Amen Brother
You can use one of the new pull through sites in the 600 loop I created last weekend while smashing my fiver into a site.

You crack me up!! And you are quite right!!
Maybe I will offend someone here and forgive me in advance-- my folks are turning 60 this year and are the picture of health. Maybe senior citizen was the wrong term. :cool1: They have retired and are enjoying seeing the country. Since I have not ever seen FW myself, I have only heard the horror stories of people knocking things down when they try to drive through the fort. I have worried that only expert could ensure their 5er survives. While they are doing well and are driving it just fine, I am sure there is a learning curve and I don't want our vaction to be ruined by hairpin curves and a 6 inch margin leading to a ditch or trash can! I would LOVE for a cm to park it, just in case.

So, any preferred sites to suggest? (It's sold out so we cannot switch to a just a FHU in hopes of getting a pull through)

As you have seen here RVers ( and DISboard members ) are a friendly bunch. If your folks have trouble getting into their site I'll just bet the neighbors will come over and help them back their rig in. I've seen this at many RV parks and FW. :grouphug:

Oh, dear GOD!!!
I didn't realize that 60 is practically knocking at death's door!!! I better hurry up and get all my things in order. :scared1:
BTW - I've seen some pretty inept people of all ages trying to jocky their RV into a site. :sad2:
(No, I'm not really offended mommyoeo - you'll get there yourself someday!)

I dont think you want to request a specific site.....rather a "type" of site.
example: Preferred loop, 40ft 5er, 2 slide outs, awning, AND EASY TO GET INTO.( for beginners ) I know they have the sites rated for ease of accessing.

I might add that I always request sites that will fit our 5th wheel and acessories and it seem they always pick out the hard sites, at least the last three trips.

:scared1: Can you tell us when they are going so we can be on the look out? :magnify:
Hopefully if they have any trouble a CM or someone else will lend a hand.

Sites 1203 and 1205 (not counting the new one in the 600 loop that Gatordad made recently) are pull thrus and I believe they are preferred sites. They are nice long sites too and are probably the two easiest sites to pull into.
If they are not available I am sure the neighbors will help and/or a cm but be warned...not all cm's are knowledgable in backing in trailers or fivers.

The peacocks used to be called upon for backing people's rigs in. I heard that was originally the way those 2 pull thru sites were created to begin with.

The bus driver told me that in order to work at the Fort, you must be able to back in a 5'er.
They confirmed it when I went to buy peacock bait at the bike barn.

Freindly indeed, our last trip there was a group just up from us as we pulled up in our 38' fiver. They looked at our camper, and then all the stuff in the way. They started talking and pointing until one of them stood up as we started to back in. He walked toward us until he got to the...cooler, picked up a new beer and sat back for the "show":rotfl2: . We actually got right in but it was funny. We have had problems in the past and have always had people willing to help..

We were in 1205 last November, standard site. I guess it was a good thing too. We have had our 5th wheel less than a year (making us newbies) and I turn 55 tomorrow (almost a senior citizen). I was able to get in and out with out hitting anything or anyone. Leaving again in 5 weeks for the Fort. Hope some of those friendly people are around to help me then!!!:rotfl2:

I can see this starting a whole new category on YouTube. We frequent a lot of older state campgrounds up here for weekend trips, and it's amazing how big the crowd gets when people pull up with something over 25 feet long. Seems our older state parks were originally created with the tenting crowd in mind, or those with pop-ups. Luckily for me, my oldest son has lots of experience helping guide me through some really tight situations. DW frequently goes to the exact spot where she can not be seen as I angle the trailer into the site. Probably the best place to be :rotfl2: ! Luckily, DS 15 knows where to stand so that I can see him in either the mirrors or through the back window, and knows how much time/distance it takes to turn the TT. Helped me back into a site once where there were branches scraping both sides of the trailer and the entrance to the site was about 50 feet to 60 feet :worship: (ended up being a great, private site, but miserable to get in and out of).

I'm sure there will be someone around to help out your parents when they get in. I go to a lot of races. There are about 15-20 of us that meet up at most tracks. One of the group has a 44 ft American Dream MH that he drives in from SC. When he shows up, he stops in the middle of the road/lane, finds one of us and says, "Which one of you wants to park this thing for me?" He says he's fine going forward, just can't back it to save his life. So, there's a couple of us that have driven big stuff and we jump in and back it to whereever he wants... And then we give him grief for the rest of the weekend.

The loops are very tight to manuver around in a big rig some more so than others, the key is to take it slow and take your time. I hope your dad has experinece in backing up a fifth wheeler it is differnt than backing up a class "A" or "C". I have done both. Try to get one of the pull throughs if not I am sure someone will help. We have a 40' Class "A" and one of our trips the reservaion guy said we can put our trailer (18') right on the site, wrong was he we were in a very very tight loop I think it was loop 300 everyone was watching us drive in with our trailer attached looking at us like we were nuts only to find out not only would the total of approx 58' would not fit they were wondering how we would get out of there. Well we are very experience and did so with ease without taking out any tree limbs along the way and took our trailer right to the parking lot, it was very tight backing into our site and will not stay in this loop again we were just to cramped. So I can only imagaine what it would have been like for someone who has very little experience probably would have had a heart attack. The guy at the reservation booth must have been new.
