Sunday's "Survivor Immunity Challenge" Riddle

I'm just waiting for Jeff Probst to have this as a challenge on Survivor later this season. Send me a PM when you know the answer!

A man is on the east side of an island. Wind is blowing from the west side to the east. There is a fire on the west end that is being pushed by the wind toward the man, igniting everything in its path. The fire stretches from north to south and is slowly approaching the man. He cannot go near the water, for he the island is about twenty feet above the island and there are sharks in the water. Also, he cannot dig a hole in the hard surface of the island. How does he survive without being burned to death by the incoming fire?

Oh and by the way, to anyone who thinks this riddle is too hard, blame Donna. I was looking for a specific type of riddle, but I couldn't find it and she rushed me into putting up a riddle :p
