Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!
New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Thought I was going to have to dig out my thermals today...was only 64 degrees when I started out on my 12 miles. ;) After the first teeth-chattering interval, the run was fabulous! Finished in 2:29:11 for a 12:25 pace :car: That's about 6 min off my best 12!
Thanks to everyone for commenting on how cool the new distances are. I have 16 looming ahead next week...already starting to worry about that one!
Kristin...I'm no expert, but I'm planning a 22 mile run as my longest for the full. I've done a 12 for each half marathon I've run even though most plans only go up to 10. I do it for the mental edge.
Martha...good luck on your 16! Can't wait to hear about it!
Jackie...hope the band competition went well!
Don't forget to set your clocks back!

I had a great r/w tonight :goodvibes . Worked all day and then went to the track for 5 miles. Decided to do my version of intervals. Guess what?!- I PR'd :cool1:
I finished the 5 miles in 1:02:41 for at 12:32 mpm pace. I actually finished the first 2 miles in under 12 mpm pace. Thought I might try to break an hour, but it didn't work out that way. Still, I was happy. The best part was I didn't feel like I was spent when I was finished. And I seemed to catch my breath quicker on the recovery part of the interval. Guess all this training is starting to pay off!:)
Was sorry to hear about the tragedy at the Olympic Trials:sad2:
Wishing everyone a good training week!

Hey all well the 15 is done and dusted - for soem reason that's my hurdle, the rest of it now doesn't bother me. It went okay, we went out for pasta dinner last night then I went to sleep at 9pm. At midnight I am woken up by thunderstorms and lashing rain - accompanied by my neighbours having a party, all I could think was 'I've got to run 3 hours tomorrow -and it's raining and there's music', finally fell back to sleep at 3.30 and told myself I could sleep until whenever i'd just run late, so left he house at 8.30am (not 7am) which was great as the sun was just coming out from the rainclouds - fo course in Australia this isn't always a good thing, but the temperature stayed somewhere around 70ish I think so it was fine.
I decided to go a new route and ran towards Nicole Kidman's house (via Russell Crowe's pad!!!), I kid you not, they are my destination markers, I had never found the steps that take you toward Ms Kidman's before (and you don't want to go the roadway it's a pretty dodgy area) but much consultation of maps got me there and so I ran round a very pretty little park then tried to find Nicole - all I know is the area she's in, not exactly where, apparently you spot it by the photographers outside - well she obviously isn't ehre as no paps anywhere and man, if she ever walks round there its no wonder she's so thin - it's hilly!!!
So, by the time I get back to the normal starting point of my run iI'm 1 hour 45 in - only another one to go - hooray. Bump into a friend while having a drink stop so that was a 5 minute break that revived me and got back home perfectly at 2.45. Feet are a bit sore, but it's now about 85 degrees so am enjoying the ice.
Hope everyone else went well - Helen

Well, I am off to run the 10K Ben Franklin Bridge run (Camden, Nj to Philly). It's a chilly 39 degrees today so this will be my first fairly cold run. Temp should be 44 at race time (8:30AM).
Good luck disneybelle (Darcey) !! I do not have a WISH shirt so you probably won't be able to pick me out. I'm #1840 if you read this before you leave.

Well, I'm sitting here with my coffee:surfweb: getting some inspiration to get out and run. Tummy wasn't so hot yesterday, so we'll see what happens today. Gonna try for 12, but I'm so unprepared (no powerade, no Gu:rolleyes: ) And I had to break out my "winter running" gear today (capri tights)--it's 47 degrees out!:cold: But I do have to say that turning the clocks back, helped me get out of bed this morning on time.
Good luck to all with races and LRs today. Congrats to those who got those LRs in yesterday!

Motivational quote for those feeling lazy this sunday:
You can not plow a field by turning it over in your mind.
Sorry, but I was hearing alot of unmotivated people this morning. The fresh bout of cold air has us all wanting to curl up instead of run. Don't give in to it! Go out and breathe in the cold air and run! It will feel good.

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:
I forgot about setting the clocks back. Thanks for the reminders. Now I should go back to bed ;). I was lazy yesterday running-wise. I did nothing. I was up early, going to run, but then I wanted to watch the Olympic Marathon Trials. So I decided to make a big waffle and egg breakfast for the family while I kept my eyes on the computer for the trials. I was amazed at Ryan Hall's win. I was able even to see him finish, and he was so impressive. I was shocked and saddened by Ryan Shay's death. What a shock. My heart goes out to his family. The rest of the day I puttered around the house. Put away the summer stuff, took DD6 pooh: to a b-day party, and took the family to Target. We scored some fun Halloween stuff for 75% off. Then home to watch Michigan squeek by Michigan State in football. Go Blue! The evil side of me was glad the loss was particularly painful for MSU... heh, heh, heh.
Jen- WTG on your 7 miler at 8:36 pace. That is really impressive. :thumbsup2
Mike- Nice job on your 9 miler. You're ahead of me with training. I only did one 3 mile run last week. See, that's why you can run sub-4 hours marathons. Good job. I'm sorry to hear about Kathy's shin splints. I know how painful those can be. Hope she's feeling better.
Mel- Great job on your PR for 12 miles. That's awesome! How's your foot holding up these days.
Terri- Great job on your 5 miler too. Wow, everyone's PR'ing.
Helen- I love your mile markers for your run, Russell Crowe's house, Nicole Kidman's house... you must live in a pretty swanky area. I guess being a celebrity author and all will do that ;).
Lou- Good luck with your race today. Darcey too.
Stephanie- Good luck with your run too. Hope you stay warm.
Cecilia- Thanks for the motivational quote. You're right, I was using the cold as part of my excuse yesterday too. Although, I felt OK giving myself a break since I just ran the marathon and have nothing coming up. I think the family appreciated my hanging around too.

Good morning Team. I try to say hello on this thread when it is first getting started because I can't keep up with it after it's been going for a few days.
Erica and I are planning an 8 mile walk on Monday and a 16 miler on Tuesday. We both had to take a few days off to recover from vacation. Did that ToT thing really happen or was it just a dream? I have trouble even remembering it all since the week went so fast.
Have an awesome day y'all.

Good morning! :goodvibes I'm joining in early this week, otherwise I can never keep up.
I did my first LW since the Baltimore Marathon yesterday (10 miles). Boy, am I out of shape. It's only been 3 weeks, but since I spent most of that time resting my injured knee, it sure was hard to find my groove. At least my knee didn't hurt. Now I have inspiration to get serious about Goofy.
Take care, everyone! Have a great week.

Hi All,
Unfortunately my computer crashed on Thursday so I haven’t had a chance to stay caught up. I popped in my work laptop so I can get my Disboards fix! Need to order a new Dell today. Can’t wait to go back and read what’s been happening. From the little I saw, great job everyone. Looks like some people have races today. Go get em! Can’t wait to see if anyone races the NYC marathon. That is one race I’d like to get to. I think that would be so cool.
I was at a conference Thursday afternoon through Saturday afternoon. Well Thursday I went out and ran for an hour between the conference and dinner. I was beat. The temps were in the high 80’s and the humidity was still way up there. I was dreading that I had to do a 14 miler on Saturday afternoon.
Well come Saturday, the weather finally broke. Went out around 4:30 p.m. (you don’t normally do that here in S Florida) and had a great 14 mile run. I have never run farther than 13 miles before so this was a new distance for me. When I was out I actually had to call and ask my wife to bring me my long sleeve shirt because it was getting chilly. That is awesome for us since we haven’t had the AC off since we turned it on in April. Anyway, I felt great. The weather sure does make a difference.
I’m sure glad I went out yesterday because it feels really good just lounging around on this cool morning! We have absolutely nothing we have to do today :)
Keep running and I’ll keep reading,
Duane

Hi team!! Good luck to all who are racing today. I am loving the time change (yeah ask me that later when it gets dark so early!! LOL) My DH woke up at his normal time (well he thought it was normal time but the clocks weren't turned back yet) so we were up before 6AM. I went out around 6:20AM. The temp was about 63 so it felt good. I was able to run the whole way to the beach (about a mile) when I got there I HAD to stop and walk because the sun was coming up and it was so BEAUTIFUL. I am going to have to bring my camera the next time (maybe tomorrow morning) I then ran the whole way back. I only did 2 miles but I don't really have any races scheduled (if I am in town I may do a 4 miler on Thanksgiving - the prize for the 1st 600 finishers is an apple pie!!!) So I was motivated this AM but wasn't too motivated last week - only got out on Thursday but I did plan on taking the whole week off.
Hope everyone has a nice Sunday and enjoy!!

Hi guys -
Since the most I'm doing at the moment is a 20 minute walk with a colleague at lunch I haven't felt like I should post..... but I've been reading :goodvibes
I've got a question... I've tried to find it again and so far haven't had any luck. I could have sworn that someone had a rough stay at the Swan/Dolphin over the ToT event weekend.
I will be heading to Orlando for a business trip in a couple weeks and want to spend the last evening in WDW (use that AP that's burning a whole in my pocket).
The rates though for that time period are scary even with an AP :scared1:
I wanted to stay in the Epcot area but sheesh the lowest WDW resort price is the BCV at $275 (with tax).
The corp I work for does have an agreenment with Westin hotels so I checked the Dolphin and was quoted a rate of $241 (with tax).
However, I thought I'd read that someone had a bad stay and that there were unexpected fees on top of this...
I'm planning on spending the evening in Epcot for EMH and have to leave for the airport the next morning (11am flight) so my use of the resort will be highly limited. I thought staying close though would be time effective. The rates though wowser :scared1:
The other options are a value for $90 (with tax) or a mod for $140 (with tax).
If anyone has advise for a quick solo one night stay I'd be thrilled to hear it!
WISHing everyone the best :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Got my 15 miles in! I wanted to quit so many times, but I didn't want to report to the boards. ;)
It was cold!! It started out at 48 degrees. I was in shorts, short sleeve T-shirt, and a light jacket. Harry was layered up! The first couple of miles were cold, but it got a little better.
My iPod tells me I did it at a 10:02 pace. I did stop it everytime I had to stop for a car, or give Harry more treats, or pick up stuff-- you get the idea. So it looks like I was fast, but there was a lot of stopped time that I didn't count (but did get to rest)! So in real time it took... an eternity. Good thing we had that extra hour!
I had gels at miles 5 and 11. I was seriously pushed over the edge at about mile 7, so I stole some of Harry's Kissables (they're like Hershey Kisses with an M&M coating). The candy made me so much happier than the gels! It really made me laugh to think that I was eating candy while running- that seems so wrong, but felt so right.
I thought of WISHers a lot. I was wondering who else was out there plodding along. Hope everyone did well!
Helen's route sounds so much better than mine! I wandered into a few other neighborhoods. Hello- at least 7 dogs ran at me. I've got to get some pepper spray. I've never run into dogs in my usual area. One in particular was scary- he looked like a wolf with mange. I heard the owner yelling at him about 20 seconds after he'd rushed me. Oh, thanks, he could have eaten me by the time you noticed! :rolleyes1
So I guess it's a good start to November, the scariest month on my calendar (to date at least).

It was Erica and I that didn't care for the Swan. We felt it was more for convention and business travelers. Not the same attitude and atmosphere as a Disney resort. Also they chare to $9 plus tax per day to park your car and $14 for a day of internet. The Disney resorts don't charge for parking and ingternet is $9.99 a day.
The restraunts are more expensive than the Moderate levels, I think you can get an annual pass rate of $99 a night at the Moderates right now, and parking is free. We have stayed at the Coranado which was good and CBR this Jan trip.

Hey Minnie-
I think it was Dave who didn't like the Swan when he first got to Disney. I don't remember if he posted his final thoughts on it.
I've stayed at the Dolphin and the Swan. I love the location of course. I think they do add some extra charges, but can't remember the details.
They are not run by Disney, and they do not feel like Disney. (They do have a gift shop with Disney stuff). Mickey will not wake you up and you can't use your roomkey for charging. Those two things really bother me-- I like the routine of listening to Mickey telling me to get up and I like not seeing my credit card when I'm at Epcot. Sure, I know charging on the roomkey is the same as the card, but it feels different. ;)
On the positive side, the Swan/Dolphin do have great beds and a decent pool. I've found the staff to be ok. Nothing great, but nothing bad either. And again, location, location, location...
I usually only stay there if I can find a rate that is significantly lower than the Beach Club. Then it's worth it to me. If I had to choose, I'd probably stay somewhere else at the rate you quoted. But, part of me thinks it is really convenient and it's just one night...
I think Dave was talking about it in one of the posts from the WISHers who arrived early for the ToT.
Good luck

Hey everybody--like some of the others have said, I figure I better check in today before I lose track of this thread.
Today I did my 15 mile LR..first of all, this is my longest run ever, and I have to say it was quite hard. But, I finished, and I am super happy about that. My pace was just under 11 min., which I was happy about.
Sorry, that I don't have more time to catch up...gotta run!
Hope everyone had great runs/races this weekend!

hockeygirl and Jen in GA - Congrats on the 15 mile LR's. In a few weeks 15 miles will not seem that long anymore.
RACE REPORT - Cooper AmeriHealth Bridge Challenge 10K
The good news is that I ran a good race today. I have never ran this fast for 6+ miles in my life. I remember when I first started training in the summer that 6 miles was my first LR. Now it seems like a run around the block.
PLACE: 354 out of 2033
CHIP TIME: 48:09
FINAL TIME: 48:28
PACE: 7:48 (fastest I have ever run)
The hardest part of getting prepared for a 1st marathon is not having the experience. Today I learned another lesson. The lesson is that I am training for a marathon and even if I can run fast for 6 miles I may want to be careful because I could get injured.
The bad news is I got hurt. After I finished the race I felt good...my right knee felt a little sore but everything else was great. I sat down in centerfield of Campbell's Field and stretched for a few minutes. When I got up my knee felt weird and in 5 minutes I was limping around like an old man. I could not walk up or down stairs at all. I needed help getting out of my car at home.
I think I hyperextended my knee down the stretch which was stupid on my part. I was running with a few people at the end that I wanted to beat and my getting cocky I ended up getting me hurt.
I've been on ice and Tylenol all afternoon and the pain/swelling has gone down slightly. The Philly marathon is 2 weeks away so I am a little scared. Worst case I may have to cut back on training to let this knee heel up.
Good thing my wife is an ER nurse because I have plenty of medical support/opinions.

Oh no! I injured my knee 3 weeks before my first marathon. Same kinda thing - running when I shouldn't have. :sad2: I saw my doc, got an MRI and was able to rule out any "permanent, structural" damage. So, with that info, I babied it until the race and made it through to the finis. Here's hopin' you'll be able to as well.

Ok, count me as another one who wants to get in on the thread early this week or I’ll never have time to keep up. :) Hope everyone is having a great weekend and enjoying the extra hour of weekend time (which I KNOW we all used wisely for sleeping :thumbsup2 ).
It seems weird to be back from WDW after such a short trip. Although it is nice to enjoy a relaxing weekend. Why is it that the first weekend after a vacation is such a lazy weekend at home? There are a ton of things I should be doing right now, but alas, Krista and I are both curled up on the couch, watching the Bunguls lose ;) and goofing around on the computers.
Training’s been going pretty well recently. I’m trying to nurse my knee back to 100 % slowly so as not to re-injure it. I had to skip the Columbus marathon because of it, and I don’t plan to miss Disney in 10 weeks for any reason at all, so “better extra safe than sorry” has been my motto in training. I set up the bike trainer last night that Krista got me for our anniversary (thank you, honey! :) ). I can already tell that long rides on that thing in the middle of winter could get very monotonous. I guess I’ll just have to catch up on some nice, long epic movies for those training rides.
Mel—great job on the 12 miler! Good luck on the 16 next week. We missed you guys at WDW last week.
Helen—are we going to read in the newspaper about a runner stalking Nicole Kidman on her 15 mile run?? :lmao: Nice job on finishing the run.
Dave—Hi! Good to hear from you and congrats on your MCM finish. Got your PM, but haven’t gotten a chance to write back yet. Hope everything’s going well for you at home. By the way, Hines says Hi, too!
Kelley—good job on the 10 miler, and that’s great news that your knee didn’t hurt!
Duane—WTG on the 14! Wait, let me get this straight—you called your wife and she brought you a long sleeve shirt mid-run. That was really nice of her. If I asked Krista to do that for me, she would probably laugh and then hang up the phone on me. Kidding. Good thing she’s not reading this over my shoulder. ;)
Vic—nothing wrong with procrastination. :rolleyes1 Good luck with the LR tomorrow. It was great to get to see you last week.
Jen—good job on the LR! We all know that time out to feed children, etc, does not count towards the overall time! :)
Laurie—way to go on the new distance!
Lou—ouch! I do feel bad for you. I would take it easy on the knee and I’m sure it will be fine soon enough. I don’t think you’ll lose too much of your base, so I wouldn’t worry about it a lot. On a better note, great job on your overall time!
Well, the Bunguls just officially lost, which is the next best thing to a Steelers win :woohoo: , so I think I may actually go mow the lawn now. Have a great rest of the weekend, all. Happy training!

Ahhhh, I've forgotten how great cold weather running is!!! I just got back from 3 miles (that just seems so wrong after reading about all the 15 and 16 milers this weekend!) and it was great--perfect weather running--55 degrees and sunny. I love running in shorts and long sleeve shirt (I know Mel, you're dying reading that :) ), being completely comfortable during the run and once you get in, slowly getting colder and colder as your body temp. comes back down. It's awesome, one of the big things I miss not training for the marathon in January.
Congrats to everyone who are facing and conquering new distances in training. I remember how nervous I was every Friday night before a new distance long run--I'd toss and turn and usually dream about running, I psyched myself out so bad, but the next day when I put my steps in and covered the distance, there was no better feeling. Be very proud of yourself and remember how great that feeling is.
GA Jen--I love how you take Harry on all of your long runs with you. It's a shame he has to put in all the hard work with you, but doesn't get the victory of the Goofy Challenge! Maybe you can get him a little Goofy medal to wear. :goodvibes
Helen--I can't believe you run past Nicole Kidman's and Russell Crowe's house. Let's see, I run past an elementary school and in a new development in our neighborhood. How exciting.
Kelley--YAY on the injury-free 10 miler!!!!
Cecilia--Great quote!! Whenever I'm not in the mood to run I always sing that little song from Santa Claus is Coming to Town: "Just put one foot in front of the other and soon you'll be walking across the floor. Just put one foot in front of the other and soon you'll be walking out the door."
Minnie--I really like staying at the Dolphin, we've stayed there 3 times I think, and we love it. True there isn't much "Disney magic", but it's a great hotel with a very friendly staff, very nice rooms, and the best beds on property. There is an additional fee for parking, I think $10 a day and a fee if you want to use the exercise room, I think that's $10 as well, but as long as you know all the fees up front, it's not as bad. I would hate not knowing about the additional fees until I was checking in, not much you can do about it then.
Vic--I am the princess: of procrastination, just ask Stephen! As long as you get it done, who cares when you were supposed to do it. How are the boys doing? Right now Hines is sound asleep on the living room floor, those 3 miles really wore him out!! Wait a minute, he just jumped up on the couch because Stephen went upstairs.
Lou--Congrats on your 10K!!! Take care of that knee!!!! :wizard:
Sorry NE fans--but GO COLTS!!!!:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I'm going to post real quick to give an update before the bedtime routine starts. I was able to get my 16 miles in yesterday with an 11:48 pace. I desperately wanted to stay in bed and sleep but since PatsBill and the rest of the north crew sent cooler weather down, I felt obligated to take advantage of it. Friday I wound up catching my toe on the garage door and wasn't sure how far I would go but it seemed to feel ok throughout the run.
Major accomplishments during the run: 1) Making 16 miles before cramping. 2) Not getting stopped by the police. :lmao:
Hope everyone has a good week.

OK, trying to catch up agin. Great first 7 out of 14. Not so great next 4. Called it quits and walked teh last 3, so hurts didn't get worse. I know I can do 14. I did 13 two weeks ago, so it didn't seem worth it to push things. Hopiing the mroe stretching, not missing yoga adn notpshing too hard yesterday will mean things will be better gain soon. Thoght I had it licked this year as this is the longest I've gone without injury.
Kevin - You there yet?
Mel, Jen, LAurie, Martha and many that I've missed - Way to go on the LLRs!!!! I really do miss those. With eevry one you complete, yuo will add a littl emore confidence adn it's the mind that will get you through!
Krista - SO sorry abotu the MNSSHP rain out. That's a bummer! Glad you're home safe and sound!
Dave - This had been a rough year for you. Hope things get better soon! I've been out of touch. Are you doing amrathon this year?
Eva - So sorry for your loss.
OK, time to stretch adn get ready for bed. Good thing I crossed trained by spending 2 hours gettign leaves out of the pool so we could close it today. If I hadn't I wouldn't be ready to go to bed with the whole time chancge and all. :upsidedow

Well, I got in 3 hours, 1 minute, 34 seconds of running! 16 miles to be sure. I'm going to deviate from Hal Higdon now and add 15 minutes each week on my LRs. That will take me up to 4 1/2 hours before taper time. I should be close to 26 as is necessary for training.
How did I feel? My right groin hurt, I felt every piece of tape on my feet and all I wanted to do was stop running. I am so happy I found audible.com as I've been buying books on tape and they are getting me through these runs. Amazing how much of a book I can listen to. I've asked for a gift certificate to audible.com for Christmas.
We enjoyed the Swan. Craig does get a teacher's discount so that helps. But when we got in on Thursday evening so late they still had the restaurants open so we were able to get some food at 10:30 pm which was great. And, location, location, location. We were able to walk to everywhere except the Magic Kingdom so that was helpful.
Krista: We forgive you b/c the Pats WON!!! Boy it was close and they seemed to do better when I wasn't in the room. I was in the kitchen doing the dishes when they scored their go-ahead run. So I stayed there until the last play of the game. I'm sure if they knew that they did better when I wasn't in the room, someone would pay me to stay out of the room!! :rotfl:
Jen in GA: AWESOME job on the run and GREAT time!!! 10:02 per mile is fabulous. I'm totally jealous!
Lou: sorry to hear about your knee! Do you need to get to the doc's? Don't hurt it any more. Be sure to get it looked at if you need to.
Bill: GREAT job on the 16!!! It makes me feel good to know that others are running the same distance I'm running. How are the little ones doing? How is DW?
Steve: take care of that knee!! We want you there at marathon weekend 100%.
hockeygirl: :thumbsup2 on the 15 miles!! Woo-hoo!
OK, now I've got to nurse my legs as I know they will be hurt all night long, especially my hip. If I had a hot tub I'd be sitting in it right now. But I don't so I just have to take a LOT of ibuprofen and roll it using the styrofoam rollers. They do a world of good.

LOL - that sounds like an almost perfect run! Way to go!
I love hearing all the long run stories. It gets me excited about my "monster miles" that start getting very big this week. and I agree that Jen in GA's Harry deserves some sort of reward for perserving through all those miles. What a trooper! Way to go Jen and Hockeygirl. Every mile makes you stronger!
Dave- if you have nothing big to train for does that mean you are not doing Disney this year? I have been looking forward to meeting you aftrer all this time. After all, we practically ran together last year even if we didn't know it.
Lou - :scared1: Ouch is right. I hope your knee gets better very quick!

Good Evening All
Stephen and Krista
It is good to hear from both of you. Please, please take care of your legs Stephen so you'll be ready for January 13. Krista, I know you're not running, but I hope to see both of you again in 2 months. I will be in Orlando for a good period of time, arriving Wednesday the 9th and not leaving until Thursday the 17th. I hope we can get together during that time. I'm actually bringing a computer and stuff to work on since I'll be there so long, so maybe, just maybe, I'll be sitting on the deck enjoying warm weather and being productive. Or then again, maybe not.
I have developed a bit of tendonitis in the back of my left knee. Not surprising given lots of training and 2 flat out races in October, but I've been taking it easy this week. I also ordered a stim machine some months ago, so I've had the electrodes on the back of the knee, and a bag of ice in the crook of the knee. It seems to be helping, so with luck I'll be back to full training this coming week. And if not, hey it's only 70 days until the marathon and I'll make it somehow.
To all the folks who went long this weekend, I am really impressed. So soon after races and you're long. I wish I had the ability to recover and the endurance that you guys have. It takes me a long time to recover after a race, both mentally and physically. You all are doing great.
Ah yes, the football, American Football, results from today. The Patsies are 2 games up on the Colts with the win. Quite a game, no doubt. Neither team played that well, but both spilled it today. I am really tired of the 1972 Dolphins acting like immature brats and bitter old men old men at the same time, so no matter who won today I was pulling for them to go 19-0 and shut up those old coots. Being proud of what you did in your prime is one thing. Actively wishing for and celebrating the demise of you successors is another. I fail to see how subsequent successes diminish your own achievements, so now for certain, "Go Pats, 19-0."
Plus watching little Griese play terribly makes me wonder if Bob could play a lick at all. I recall vaguely in their 17-0 season that Bob threw something like 10 passes in their Super Bowl win, so in the words of Lucy Van Pelt, "the 1972 Dolphins weren't so great, they never go their picture on a bubble gum card, how can anyone be great who hasn't had their picture on a bubble gum card?"
Take care all, care of your body, and careful with training.
Craig

Just a quick post from me--Where is the "whacking the Garmin" smilie when you need it. Seriously think mine is inhabited by gremlins--it took 5 miles before the darned thing synched up. Oh well. I did what, I think, was 12 miles (:cool1: for me--back in double digits since Akron) in around 1:45. Weather was AWESOME!!! Lovin' the cool, dry air! Then it was a day of pushing pills, legally of course! Now to find some dinner!

Call me crazy, but I'm seriously thinking about signing up for the WDW half marathon. Darn that NYC marathon coverage today! ;) There are still spots available through Marathon Tours at POFQ. I obviously can't train for a full in 10 weeks, but I can train for 13.1 in 10 weeks, for crying out loud I just ran a 13K with very little training and I finished just fine, a little slower than I would like, but nothing hurt and aerobically I was fine. What do you all think I should do? Should I go for it?????
Pats Fans--You can't blame me for rooting for the Colts, can ya? But I will say you are not going undefeated this season, you ARE losing to the Steelers on Dec. 9!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

**Bill/wfloyd** You requested cooler weather and we Northerners delivered. Now you and the other Floridians need to meet our request for low humidity January 12 and 13.
**Krista** I don't think any Patriots fan would be mad at you. As a life long fan, I still need to slap myself every now and then (as well as with the Red Sox) to make sure the Championships are real. When people start rooting for any team to beat you, you know you've become a consistantly winning team.
**Martha** One game at a time, but the Pats are looking good.
**Craig** One thing most people forget is that Bob Greise missed most of the 1972 season after breaking his ankle. Earl Morrall quarterbacked the Dolphins for most of the season and the first playoff game. Greise returned during the AFC Championship game and then started the SuperBowl.

Zoiks! How will I ever keep up with all of you people????
Well, I have completed week one of training for the Minnie. Ran 2 miles on the TM yesterday and another 2 (and I think a half but I have to drive it tomorrow to measure) today outside. We have a beautiful area to run in here and I am so thankful!
REST DAY QUESTION: I am following the running planet schedule for the Minnie. I am starting with the 5K program, then will do the 10K and then the half marathon program which will bring me right to the week of the Minnie. The training schedules have rest days on Monday and Thursday. I have 3 children (5, 3, and 1) and I work on M and W. It is near impossible to run on those days. Any major harm in moving the rest day from Th to W. That means I run Th, F, S and Sun in a row, with a long run on Sun but it worked this week.
Also, following these programs seems like a great idea, but they taper off on race week, which doesn't work for me with the 5 or 10K as I am not racing that week. So should I just repeat the week before? Am I overthinking this (I have a tendency to do that!)

OK, even this Michigan grad was rooting for the Colts to win vs. the Patriots. I was at Michigan when Tom Brady was playing there, but I'm getting a little tired of the Pats right now. It was a good game though.
Congrats everyone on their LRs over the weekend. I need to take DD9 princess: to chorus practice before school today. She needs to be there at 7:30am. So I drop her off and go to the gym before work.
Krista- Go Steelers tonight!!! I can't stand the Ravens. I think you should sign up for a spot for the Disney half through Marathon Tours and Travel. Go for it. Heck, you're going to be there anyway, right?
Cecilia- Yup, you're right no Disney Marathon for me this year. It just wasn't working into the family budget. That's why I went and ran the Marine Corps Marathon. I would have liked to met you too. Maybe we can meet for the Minnie.

I am already working on DH about Minnie. He agreed that it seems a shame not to get a complete set, so IF I finish Goofy he will let me sign up. Gees with confidence like that....
I understand about the budget thing. Between budget and time for training I am very limited with the races I can do. Lucky for me, I live in Atlanta and there are lots of races all around here.
Because I run with TNT, my marathon at DIsney have only cost me my meals while I was there. They pay for transportation, registration, hotel, and a couple of the meals. Of course I had to raise over $3500 in order for them to pay that, but I have never had any problem raising the money. This year I had people giving me checks before I even asked for them!
Oh and I don't go to the parks and I don't bring my kids. Thats why I am called Cruella de Mom - who else would go to WDW without her kids? twice, as they like to point out. Kids are a real budget buster!
One of my running partners and I are considering running Marine Corps next year. It is close to Baltimore so my dad might be able to come watch if he is still here. I think he would like that. Did you like it and would you recommend it? When do they start registration?

Hey, now! The Ravens may stink this year, but they're not worth hating. ;)
Plus, since they employ DH during the season I have to come to their defense.
Although...If the Ravens miss the playoffs, then DH can join me and the kids for WDW marathon weekend. Hmmm... That's almost (but not quite) enough reason to root for the Steelers. :rotfl:

Hey, now! The Ravens may stink this year, but they're not worth hating. ;)
Kelley--I have to respecfully disagree. The Ravens are the one team in the NFL that I would have to throw into that "hate" category. Probably because they used to be the Browns, and everyone in Pittsburgh still considers them the Browns, and we all know how the Steelers and Browns get along. :)

Krista--So, are you saying there's not going to be a new "very little" WISHer joining us in Jan???? ;) In that case, I'm all for you running! You go girl; even if you do root for that black and gold team---but they didn't play the Browns this weekend, so I can root for them.
Steve--have to agree with you about the Ravens. Even Browns fans dislike them b/c the team was taken out of Cleveland and renamed! Amazing how Steelers fans and Browns fans can agree on something! Take care of that knee!
sara74--I would recommend, if at all possible, to include a rest day before your LR/LW day. The muscles need some time to rest and rebuild. And with no rest before your LR, it could make those longer distances really hard and unpleasant as the mileage increases.
SWDave--I think it would be a hoot if you requested to get updates on all the WISHers at Disney--imagine all the text messages you would get! Did I mention before that I think you need the Minnie to complete the set???;)
Should be a rest day for me today, but b/c of other work commitments, I need to get in a little run this afternoon. I figure ending my LR yesterday at 8:15 and starting today's easy run at 4pm should be okay. Hope everyone has a great start to the week
Oh, and on a totally unrelated, off topic, topic; Does anyone own a Dyson Vacuum? Our cheapo vacuum started shooting sparks at me on Friday (definite sign to stop cleaning!;) ) so we're in the market for a new one. The price of the Dyson makes me want to faint, but it's worth it, I'm getting it!

Well, we don't have any surprises yet, so I figured if I do get a surprise between now and January, the furthest along I could possibly be is 8-9 weeks, which I don't think would an issue for a half marathon. Not that a half marathon is a short distance by any means, but I've already done 1 full and 4 halfs, so I know what to expect. Plus, if I have to walk a half, I can do it in about 3 hours, so that's not that bad--not like walking a full! Of course I would talk to my doctor about all of this if I need to and take his advice 100%.
Did anyone see that Katie Holmes ran the NYC marathon yesterday? She finished in 5:29--finally a celebrity with a realistic finish time!
Kelley--Sorry, but I HATE the Ravens, the only time I've ever rooted for them was Monday night against the Bengals. I'm going to stop talking now, because I don't want you hating me!!!

I'm glad she can go to school, but I missed going to the gym before work. Now, I will try to squeeze in a run after work.
Go Steelers!!! And, yes, growing up in Pittsburgh during the 70's gave me a healthy hatred of the Cleveland Browns that continued when they moved to Baltimore. However, I now dislike the Ravens even more than the Brownies. I dislike them for their own merits, they just seemed so "thuggy" when they won their SuperBowl. Although, I have to say the Bungles seem a lot more like convicts than the Ravens do now.

CeciliaHi Cecilia :wave2: I LOVED the Marine Corps Marathon. It was a great race, well organized, and the Marines were incredible. My Dad is in Delaware, so he drove up and picked me up at BWI and we spent the weekend together. We went to one of the museums, and he was all over the course to see me. We had a great time. Dad even has his own WISH t-shirt now. I have to say, the WISH group of runners, and having my Dad there really made the race for me. I would definitely recommend the race. I think they start registration in May, and last year it closed out in about 2 weeks. I was able to get a registration through Jeff Galloway's training group in late August though. Good thing I was training.

While I shouldn't bore everyone with the details... here's the trip in summary:
2.5 days
29 hours
1505 miles
1 Newfoundland
1 Very nice Hampton Inn in Murfreesboro, TN
1 Not as Nice HoJo in Ocala, FL
$17.00 in Florida Turnpike tolls
16 Rest Area/Fuel stops
Prettiest State to Drive through: Kentucky, hands down
Most Boring State to Drive through: Indiana, no question
Worst Drivers: the residents of Nashville, TN :scared1:
Worst Rest Areas: Indiana (again)
Best Rest Areas (facilities): Florida
Best Rest Areas (location): Tennessee (there are some gorgeous ones on I-24 coming thtough the mountains....)
IN any case, it's over, I'm getting settled and I'm happy to be here. The weather is gorgeous and I love the area so far.
Today I did about 4 miles through the new neighborhood (in about 38 minutes), which is... small. I definately need to go to the USTF planner site and find some new routes for my LLRs.
Congrats to everyone on their LLRs this weekend!!! Sounds like everyone is doing really well. I am definately feeling behind the 8 ball with Goofy right now, but I've got two months and gorgeous training weather... if I stick to my guns and follow the plan, I hope I'll be OK.

Back into training, Did 10 miles on Sat in cool conditions was 38 degrees. What a change from Sat night at ToT.
DH dislikes the Ravens because of the Colts sneaking out in the middle of the night and to him the Ravens are not a Baltimore team and the Colts don't belong in Indianapolis. However, DS#2 is a huge Raven's fan which are not having the best year. DS#2 is going to the bar to watch the Steelers and Ravens so I don't have to listen to him yelling at the TV. DH and I will be rooting for the Steelers tonight.

Boy are my legs tired today! After the 3 hours of running yesterday I guess they deserve to be tired. Apparently I wasn't all there either, mental-wise after the run. DH and DD certainly had some fun with that! As long as I didn't play with sharp objects, I was OK. And I had a great excuse to sit my butt on the couch and watch all the football I wanted. Rest day today and well deserved, I might add.
Kevin: welcome to your new home! I hope things settle in nicely and your job goes well.

Stephanie - I own a Dyson DC14 Animal and I love it! You would be amazed all the pet hair this baby picks up. It is an expensive vacuum cleaner, but I definitely think it is worth it.
OK, so this weekend I had my 5 mile race on Saturday, then 15 miles scheduled for Sunday. The race on Saturday was fine - finished in about 51:30. We slept in, had breakfast, drove back from Banff and picked the dogs up from kennel. I had a bite to eat and was out the door at 2:30 pm, so I didn't start running until just after 3 pm. It was about -1C (29F) and a few flakes in the air, and some packed snow in areas on the ground, but for the most part the pathways were clear. Only one word can describe my long run this weekend. DUMB... Apparently 3 pm is too late because it is completely dark by 6 pm (thanks time change!). I opted to go run around Glenmore Reservoir and the direction I took had me completely in the forested area (as opposed to the residential side) to finish up the run. The legs were feeling OK throughout, but with 3 or 4 miles left to go it is getting pretty dark and pretty quiet. I'm getting nervous so I cut the walk breaks out and just keep running. With 2 miles left to go I see a sign warning that a bear pooh: has been sighted in the area. I freak out and call my friend. She advises me to keep going, but to sing the entire way along so that I don't startle the bear (if it is still around). I haven't checked my Garmin, but I'm willing to bet those last few miles were fast... One runner passes me and comments that it sounds like I'm having a good time out there and I mention that it is because I'm freaked out about the bear warning sign. He mumbles something about at least not being surprised by a bear and blows past me. I finished up with something like 15.37 miles although I haven't checked the Garmin to be sure. I have never been so happy to see my car... I guess the good news is that by that point in time the distance felt easy and the legs are feeling okay today (sore knees a bit last night).
So....what did I learn from this?
- Don't start a long run so late in the day
- Stick to more populated areas

Stephanie, love, love, love my Dyson! One of the best investments I ever made.
The carpets actually feel different after I vacuum, like walking on a cloud! It definitely picks up everything!
I bought mine at Kohls and waited until they had a 30% off code that I could use online. The only thing is you need a Kohls charge card to use the 30% off code.
ETA: There is a 30% off code out right now enter "givethanks" for the code online.

Stephanie (and all the rest of you with more experience than I have!)- Still trying to figure out a good schedule with me having 'mandatory' rest days on Monday and Wednesday - I'm working those days and DH is often gone until the kids are in bed. So if those are my rest days, then what day would you do the long run?
With the running planet schedules they have you do a short run, then a hill or speed workout the next day, then a rest and then three days of running, culminating in the long run. They have you rest the day after the long run, not the day before. The day before the long run they have you do a shorter run, like a 2 mile run in the 10K schedule.
With me trying to switch things up I end up doing a short run, then a rest, then hill, run, short, long and rest again. I know it would be ideal to have 2 runs between my rest days but I really can't swing it. Do you have any suggestions on how to arrange things best? It isn't an issue now, but as the distance increases I agree that it could become one.
Thanks!!

One of my running partners and I are considering running Marine Corps next year. It is close to Baltimore so my dad might be able to come watch if he is still here. I think he would like that. Did you like it and would you recommend it? When do they start registration?

I'll echo what Dave said. I highly recommend it. The best way to get in is to pick up a race application at the WDW Expo. It's supposed to get you a guaranteed entry.

Sara: is it possible for you to do the long run on Tuesday? That would give you a rest day, long run then another rest day. That's how I've got my schedule working. I do better on a LR if I've had a rest day before. And with the really long runs now, I like the rest day the day after also.
Just a thought but see if it works for you.

Trying to encourage my sister to walk/run it with me but she has a long way to go so we will be last minute if anything. Just keep telling myself the new year will be better :dance3: and I will be able to start training if I just take it easy now. Good job everyone on the LRs and marathon training. Ok first of all I have to say I not a big football fan and if I were to go for a team it would have to be my local team and they are NOT doing good at all this year (but oh they were so good in 1972!!! Which I must say was the best year - also my birth year!!) That being said my DH is a Steelers fan so :thumbsup2 to all you Steelers fans!!! My sport of choice to watch on Sundays is NASCAR. Can't wait for Nov 18th - Homestead Championship weekend and my anniversary (spending 4 days in the Keys as well :woohoo: )
Sara74 - you can check out gmaps-pedometer dot com to map out routes so its a little easier than driving the distance
Congrats to all who got long runs in this weekend.
I am still taking it slow since I have nothing planned but I want to keep up my base. Just want to post a picture from this morning's run - this is what gives me motivation to get up and out the door in the morning. Well the last 2 days anyway!! LOL)

OMG! :rotfl: I only caught one play. It was an interception. Yes, he took it back for a touchdown, but it was more lumbering up teh score than running up the score. ;) ***Note: with all teh Pearl Izumi crud, that may sound bad to some. trust me, I don't think the man could keep up with any WISHers, even at their worst. Hello everyone -
We are back. We had a fab-u-lous week at WDW! Even though the weather was crazy, the crowds were very very light from Monday on. We did all four parks, walked about 157 miles, ate way too much. We had a great time!
While we were there we booked a bounceback at AKL for January. :thumbsup2
Training has been going well since ToT. Did 6 miles this weekend. However, after all that walking at WDW, geting in and out of rides, racing, swimming....I was walking across the kitchen Sunday and my suddenly my knee felt like it was hit by lightining. :scared1: It doesn't bother me when I train but when I get up from a sitting position.... I've been icing it and I think it's getting a little better. I'm pretty sure it's that pesky meniscus that I know is torn and my orthopedic curgeon told me not to do the Half in January because of. Yeah, OK, riiiight. :rolleyes1
Anyway, life is back so normal now :upsidedow so let me get caught up on all things WISH.
But before I go, a shout out to two of my favorite guys who I see posted here this week....

Hey Judy - does that mean you'll be at AKL for the marathon as that's where we're staying (tho blast the no code thing, I even considered an AP but the offer's not for deluxes - grrrrr)
Also just in case everyone thinks I'm in a mansion out here, I'll just point out to get to Nicole's house takes me 45 minutes of running!!! Though I do admit to having a pretty route which is mostly along the waterfront and past little buildings like the sydney opera house so I shouldn't complain!!!
Anyway, 48 minutes for me today - oh and my friend did New York in 7.12. I also love the fact that Katie Holmes ran the NY Marathon 'in disguise' am imagining her dressed as a large bumblebee or something!!! Helen

Martha - Thanks. I actually scheduled an appt with the doctor this afternoon because I was in pain all night. However, I spent the morning in the city on business and after limping around for a few blocks the knee started to loosen up a bit. I'm still in some pain but decided to bag the doctor's appt and see how I feel tomorrow. I'm lucky because I have a bunch of nurses in the family who can take care of me.

Then on the way home I stopped for gas and some jack **** who had used the pump last had left it stuck wide open. So when the pump started my feet were drenched again this time with gas.

Hello, WISHers!
Sorry I don't have time to respond to everyone today. It has been absolutely crazy since we got back from ToT. First of, my dad ended up in the hospital and got 3 new stents so last week I was at the hospital pretty much all the time. This week he's home, but with my mom gone it's up to me to take care of him. So I'm trying to run 2 households, start a new job, chaperone field trips ...
My running, needless to say, has suffered. Pretty much nothing last week. I was supposed to get in 12 this weekend and only had time for 6. I snuck in 30 minutes yesterday. HOPEFULLLY today I can get in an hour or so. I'm scheduled for 18 this coming weekend. Yikes!
Hope everyone else is getting in their miles. Run a few for me!

Well the virgin's have a union now so Bill volunteered to be the contract negiociator. Well he never produced our virgin to sacrafice, some lame excuse about how he had to mud wreastle Tonya Harding and lost so he lost our bail fund and still no virgin.
So the Boogie was ticked off and didn't even show, I understand that he has decided to chow down on a few of TNT sweethearts at the January Marathon. Bill has another shot at redeeming himself at the Half.

WWDave: considering what you went through last night--the rain, thunder and gasoline spill--I shall recommend to Queen Judy that you be pardoned. You've been punished enough.
Stephanie: that's right! I forgot how well you did watch Scott's beer. You wouldn't dream of leaving it to ride RNR until he returned. I shall recommend to Queen Judy that you be the official holder of the beer! Did you decide to buy the Dyson? Here's pixiedust: to get well soon!

Cecilia: I do rather agree that she looked awfully good for someone who just ran a marathon. Heavens--after the ToT, my face looked like a tomato! But at least she did it which is more than I can say for any other celeb! So kudos to her!!
Krista, MSDave: how about them Steelers? And horrible conditions for the game! :scared1:

Hi Everyone.
Well I did the first workout from the Couch Potato to 5K program. It went really well. I ended up doing 1.25 miles in 20 minutes. Not bad for a beginner I guess and I'm not sore. :cool1:
Workout 2 will be tomorrow.
I can't wait to be able to call 3 miles easy.

WTG Sabrina. Stick with those workouts. We all started somewhere right??!! :cool1:
Monte: Do you have spurs or PF? I found some great orthotics at Alimed.com for PF. Freedom splints and they are only $15.50 a pair. I wear them every other run trying to heal my heel and, so far (knock wood :scared: ) it has been working.

A chiroprator said that I have PF and bought a $400. pair of orthodics that aren't worth a penny! I have to schedule an appointment with a reputable podiatrist to find out if I really have PF or spurs. Another weird thing is that I keep getting blisters whereas I never had them before. Could be time to buy a new pair of sneakers.;)

Good luck and I really hope it is not PF. I am mostly walking now and running a little and am coming out of it. I did ToT around 11 minute miles with a walk/run but I am really not happy with that  being that I was around 8:30 to 9 mpm prior to this happening. Mine came from the wrong shoes. And...I hope your insurance covered the orthotics :scared1: Geesh!!!

Lots of Docs order orthodics, your's are the most expensive I've heard of. Erica got some from her Dr and they were $150. I'm not a big fan of them and believe that most are not necessary. The proper designed shoe would be a better fix for most athletes.
Example: You need a flexibable netural cushioned shoe and you are wearing a motion control shoe that is stiff, your foot can't bend and flex when you walk/run. The result is tight ligaments and muscles in the bottom of your foot. A Dr who is not an athlete will recommend and prescribe an orthodic. When you put your orthodic in your motion control you compound the problem since the orthodic is even less flexiable.
The best preventive measure for PF or heel spurs is the proper shoe and regular stretching of the foot.
This is my opinion, I'm not by any means an expert. But I have had over 30 years as an endurance athlete and for several years I worked directly with the staff of a large military hospital developing fitness programs for an Air Force Base. I had the good fortune to have a PT there who was a member of the medical staff for the US Olympic Team. She is the one who worked out a stretching routine and therapy plan that cured my heel spurs without surgery.
My recommendation to anyone with foot concerns is to see a PT or a Dr who is an athlete. Most running clubs can tell you who to see.

I have given up trying to wear orthotics. I found I could only wear mine if I wasn't going to be on my feet longer than an hour at a time. My feet are a lot happier in the Ecco sandals and running shoes.
I have spent lots of money trying to find the right shoes, and I believe I have found them!
I do ankle circles, "write" the alphabet, and flex and extend my feet before I get out of bed. I also do these during the day when I think about it.

:flower3: Hi Team.
I really don't get on the computer on Sundays and by the time I get to it on Monday night or Tuesday I am really behind. :) Anyway, I wanted to post that I did 6 miles on Saturday and 2 yesterday (Monday). The encouraging thing about Saturday was that I actually thought -- " I only have to do 6 miles I can squeeze that in in the afternoon." Who would ever have thought that I would think 6 miles was an "only". I am still about as slow as molasses, but I am hovering around sweeper times and having negative splits so I'm encouraged. I am not sure if I am walking/ running/ or just waddling, but I'm getting in the miles.
I also got the okay for the marathon from my oncologist. Okay, I'm rebellious enough I probably would have done it anyway -- but this way when my extended family (mom and in-laws) throw conniptions at Christmas when they find out I'm doing this, I can say "my doctor said it was okay with him." (for you non Southerners "conniptions" are something Southern women throw with regularity to show disapproval, anger, or concern).:rolleyes1
My WISH shirt came yesterday. :woohoo: I can't believe everything is coming together.
I know I don't post a lot, and I still don't feel like I have made all the connections between people's posts and the actual people who go with them -- but this forum has been such an encouragement to me. Just reading and knowing that other people are plugging along too has really helped.:flower3:
Okay.
I better get with it. -- oh I was going to share this link that my DD sent me. Further reinforces not comparing yourself with others -- either in running or looks. Hope the link works.

Erica and WWDave (aka Panda): I do the stretches too along with the toe crunches (picking up things with your toes) morning, noon and night and stretch my gastroc, soleus, and hammies before I strike out but, I am cursed with excessively high arches and an accessory navicular which (according to my SIL) is PF waiting to happen. I do know that New Balance makes a shoe specifically for people with PF model 1122 which my MIL uses to run in. I am wearing the orthotics every other run and have found a pair of shoes that are working for me with the support but I am still having the nagging toothache pain. Any suggestions? I am really discouraged not being able to run like the wind....:guilty:

OK, I'll confess....the rain, the heated mattress pad, the new flannel sheets, a purring cat on one side of me and a purring husband on the other side, all conspired to keep me in bed this morning, which should have been a XT day. So I took a rest day and will trade it for tomorrow's rest day. All kidding aside, I was really tired and needed the extra hour and a half sleep. I feel considerably better. Oh and the knee....let's not discuss it. It's not acting up.
Jackie and Jen - Oh I'm sooo sorry! I wasn't ditching you at POFQ!  Honest! But if Charlie says "book the AKL" who am I to argue?? I don't mind Value and Moderate is very nice, but man, there is nothing like Deluxe! And we have never stayed at AKL. And we got such a good deal! :thumbsup2 I'm sorry.
Melissa - OMG I got dizzy just looking at that picture! You GO girl!
Kristi - That's 150K for all the Dolls? How much is it for just one? :cloud9: Nothing from the Volunteers people yet, eh?
Martha - Thank you so much for stepping in for me. The things that go on around here when I am gone... :sad2:

Mel and Duane- It's actually kind of chilly around here right now, isn't it?! Our Low was 49 last night, and the high today is still almost 80!!
Kristin - I'm no expert either, but my longest planned run is going to be either 23 or 24 depending on how I feel. I don't think I need to go the whole distance, but that last 6 miles is considered the second half of the marathon. I want to know I can at least go some of it!!
Terri - Awesome job on your 5 mile intervals!! I love Interval Training!!
Helen - I can't believe you actually ran in the same neighborhoods as Russel Crowe and Nicole Kidman.. How cool is that?!
Tricia - Glad to see I'm not the only one who took last week off. I feel a whole lot better now though after the rest!! By the way .... if I had a view like that I'd have no problem getting out to run!!
Jen in Ga - you do that to? Everytime I have to stop, wether it be for kids, cows, or cars I always stop my watch. I figure I wouldn't be stopping if I didn't have to and I won't be penalized because of it!! Awesome pace!! See you're not far behind me in time!! I take gels (I have found I like the PowerGel better than Gu) and I take Sports Beans, along with a mix of half water half gatorade to drink!
Lou - Awesome job on that race!! Don't you hate it when you do something you know you shouldn't and get yourself hurt?! I have done the exact same thing, and it hurts in the back of your knee doesn't it? Good news is with rest and ice it shouldn't take too long to feel better.
Angie - YAY on the running shoes!!
Sabrina - Good Luck!! The Couch to 5k is awesome. It helped me get back to running after have my boys (and gaining like 60 lbs with both of them)!!
Martha - What is it about the really long runs that makes your mental sharpness well..... not so sharp. I get that, and my boys get a kick out of it too. Kind of makes me nervous.
Leana - Holy Crap!! Bears?! I am never gonna complain about my cows again!!
Sara - I only run 3 days a week now (4 days got me injured) but this is what my schedule looks lile. Tuesday - short run (speed) like today I did 5 at about 8 min miles Thursday - mid long race pace ( this week 10 miles at 8:30) Saturday - Long Slow Run (this week 20 miles). I cross train (strength, cardio, and yoga) on Monday and Wednesday, and completely take Friday and Sunday off to rest.
Melissa - OMG that is such an awsome picture!! See that's the downside to living in Florida. There is no where to do stuff like that!! Darn Flat State!!
Jackie - I have been considering the Dyson too. If it really works and NEVER loses suction then it would be worth it. I am just so afraid I am gonna spend all that money just to have it clog up in a year like all my other ones have.
Dona - Isn't it amazing on those step back weeks when you can say I "ONLY" have x number of miles to do..... and just a few months ago X number of miles seemed daunting!!
Ok, so I hadn't run since TOT. I had been having ALOT of pain in my right hip and couldn't get it to go away so I decided to take the entire week off. That was an awesome idea. I have no pain in my hip anymore and I felt amazing during my 5 miles this morning. My splits were:
Mile 1: 8:48 Mile 2: 8:01 Mile 3: 8:35
Mile 4: 7:59 Mile 5: 7:37 1/2 Mile: 5:32
I ran the last 1/2 mile as a cool down. Today is a double workout, kind of. Michael has to run this afternoon so I will be running a couple of miles with him a little later. I'll post again when he we are done. This weekend I have 20 miles planned!! I know I can do it. I did 18 with my hip killing me I can definately do 20 with no pain!! I can't believe how close we are, I only have 3 LR's left!! I am getting so excited!!

Dona- Interesting video. I'll have to show my stepdaughter that one.
I too was diagnosed with PF but after further treatment and an MRI it turned out to be tendonitis in my ankle and the pain spread into my foot. So now I sport a lovely ankle brace that makes a huge difference. Like others said some doctors don't want to look into it any further and just prescribe what they think will work. I'm glad I was persistant.
Talk to you all soon!

Hello again everyone! I can't keep up on who everyone is yet, but what a cool climbing picture that was and good wishes to the poster with the sick father. I will learn names soon I promise. I am also trying to squeeze a post in while the kids are occupied so I will be short.
Ran 2.5 this morning at a 10:54 pace on the TM. Have to run there unless DH is home (or I could leave the kiddos home alone but i don't think that would be good) I am thinking about trying to get to the Y on Weds night after the baby goes to bed. Then I could split up my rest days better. Or I could run 4 days a week instead of 5, which might give me more staying power with the running. Like I said before I have a tendency to go all great guns at first with this and then fade. Got some inspiration from a friend last night who ran the Marine Corps marathon and finished in 3:05! So I feel inspired today. I am in awe of those that can run 26.2 in a day, I don't do that in a week (yet) Kudos to all of you!

But turns out we have to go car shopping. While Chad is not working, and Zack's at school. So, we are headed out in the rain to buy who knows what for me. nepatsfan Bill: I have every confidence that you will redeem yourself at the Half marathon. Based on your stellar performance at the ToT race, I shall recommend to Queen Judy that you be given another chance. How is the back doing?
Martha--You know, I did raise issues about this whole monarchy thing when YARC began to grow. After all that George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John and Sam Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Paul Revere, Patrick Henry and many others did 231 years ago, as well as the sacrifices of diverse Veterans since, I never felt comfortable about establishing a monarchy. Unfortunately, like life, we are where we are.
Thanks for asking about the back. It seems to be getting a little better, although I haven't really done any long distance (for me) walking since ToT. If the rain is finally finished for today, I hope to get 2 miles in tonight. Last week I did some strength training, core exercising and some stationary bike. I also did a couple walks of about a mile before things started spasming (when I stopped). I'm hoping the "time off" (as if I haven't had enough "rest" days over the past 2 years) will be enough to let me start back to increasing milage.

I hope everyone is doing well with all those LW/R we are doing now, and no injuries. DH is suffering with PF, DR said he just has to stretch it and rest, well he said rest isn't a option right now so DR just said to stretch it all the time. It appears to be worse when DH jogs, so he may be walking right along with me, but we are wanting to put in a bit of jogging but I haven't incorporated in any jogging on any distance over 10K so I might ahve to work up to it.

Well..... You guys won't believe what I almost did!! I almost forgot to go get Michael from school today! Seriously, For some reason I thought I needed to leave at 2:45 when I actually have to leave at 1:45. Luckily it was only 2:08 when DH called and asked why I hadn't left yet, and I made it to pick him up in the nick of time!!
We got back from school and Michael got dressed and ready for his run. We went out and ran 2 miles in 29:09. I had Michael stop running while he was playing football because they were practicing 3 days a week and then had games on Saturday. I didn't want him wearing himself down. Now that the football season is over this is his first day back. We had a lot of fun today, and he really seemed to enjoy himself.

Erica and I managed our 16 miler today. A cold front from Canada left us with a temp of 41 degrees with a 10 mph constant wind. We didn't have to worry about getting to hot.
I wore a long sleeve cotton T-shirt with a short sleeve tech under it. Long unlined running pants and a light nylon jacket. The gloves were off and on but the rest stayed the whole trip.
I was fine for the first 12 miles but I was getting tired by 14 and the last 2 miles seemed to last forever. But we made it total time was just under 4 hours. We haven't done this kind of distance since last fall when we were training for the 2007 Marathon.
Erica has us scheduled for a 9 miler on Monday next week and a 18 miler on tuesday. Someone just shoot me now!

Nothing Magical. The stretch is to sit down put out one leg and reach out and grap your toes and pull them toward you. You can do this with a towel if it's difficult for you to stretch that far.
The other stretches are all stretches for the achillies which is connected to the back of the heel and the foot ligaments. Hanging your foot off a step is a good one.
Ice twice a day for 20 min each time and use ultra sound to break it up. I could do everything but the ultra sound myself. I would go in 3 times a week for the ultra sound.

I finally got a good run in yesterday. 6 HILLY miles at a 9:10 pace, which is just flying for me. It felt so good - definitely runner's nirvana. (I've decided I need to do hills to get ready for the half in December.)
Today I start my new job and of course DD is sick. So I'll run her to the walk-in clinic then back home. I really need to get in a run today as tomorrow I'm chaperoning a field trip for DS from 6:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Aaargggh! Wow everyone is up there with their miles. Congrats to everyone getting out there and getting those LRs in. Me on the other hand I am taking it slow. For some reason I still have a shin splint on the left inside. I didn't bother me much for TOT (definately goes away after enough miles) I haven't been doing much mile wise - 2 miles last Thurs, 2 miles Sunday, 2 miles Monday, rest yesterday and 1.5 miles today. Of all those days today is the day it hurts - not that its bad but its just one of those pains where you know its there - not an its killing me pain.
All this talk of the the 08 marathon is getting me jealous wishing I could be there but I definately will be at Minnie and the 09 1/2

Renee: OK, here's the plan.....John and I are going to park our car in the Wakefield TPC parking lot and basically do a square all around WP. If you like, I'll look up the street names. If you go around the outside of the traffic circle near the pool, it will be a 5 mile loop. I plan to do it 3 times and then add another 1/2 mile up Falls of Neuse, turn around and get in my 16! If you wanted 18, you could do it 4 times and shorten the last one by taking a side street. John is going to stop at 12, take the car and get some fresh hot coffee and bagels and then be waiting back in the TPC lot when I finish my 16 If this all works out, life is good!

I got a goody in the mail from disney about a 4 night 5 day package that looked like a good deal for a value resort. Here is the link:

Well the link is not working. It's $385 per adult with double occupancy. Between 1 Jan and 17 Jan. Includes park hopper and room. If anyone is interested send me an e-mail and I'll forward it to you. My email is walkingthedistance@yahoo.com. It's in a mail from Disney talking about the upgrades to the Spaceship Earth and Haunted house.
We are booked at the CBR and have annual passes so not good for us at this time but it looks like a pretty good deal.
I went to the health club for a light workout and it was closed. Big trucks were unloading new equipment, or reposessing the current equipment, not sure which. But I took it as an omen to rest after yesterdays 16 miler.
Jeanne, good luck to you and John on the 18 miler this week.

Erica and Panda(?) - Congrats on the 16 miler, I can't imagine running in anything that cold yet.
Jeanneg - Don't let it scare you!! You've done all the training to get yourself to this point and you will be just fine. Have faith!!
Becky - I love, love, love my ice baths!! Whenever I miss one, I definatley feel it the next day!!
Renee - I am so glad to hear that you Dad is doing better.
Tricia - Have you tried icing those shin splints? Whenever mine start bothering me I try and ice them 3 times a day, and they go away. It might be worth a shot.
Nothing to report since yesterday. I was going to do some more leg strength workouts today, but I think I am gonna rest my legs. They are still kind of sore (not hurt just sore). It'll give me time to get the house work done anyway!!
Also.... I have noticed that some of you are still missing your WDW race pics (ya know, the mickey's, donald's, and goofy's), since Sunny's site is down. So what I did is saved them to my photobucket account, and if anyone wants to use them you are more than welcome to.

Good morning Racing Team -
Today is a XT day for me so I did one quick mile on the TM then tried Pilates for the first time. O M G!! Pilates kicked my....butt. LITERALLY! Holy cow it is MUCH harder than it looks! Man, you think you're in fairly good shape because you can race and do long distances and half marathons and all. Along comes Pilates and says "I don't THINK so!". It was supposed to last 33 minutes. I only lasted 20. Phew. OK, well, I'm certainly going to be doing more of it, that's for sure.
Jeanne - I am SO PROUD of you for doing these L/Rs!! :woohoo: Wasn't it you, not that long ago, who was sooo worried?!?!? Now, look at you go, girl! Whoo hooo! :cheer2:
Panda - Your ever changing signature cracks em up! :lmao: Especially the "pure as driven snow" one!
Dana - Oh thanks for the clippies! :thumbsup2 I didn't know Sunny's site was down. Where is she anyway? I miss her. :guilty:
OK let me pretend to do some real work. :coffee:

Did 8 miles on the TM today. I decided to switch weeks around so I'm doing 17 this weekend. Good news: I'll be at the beach (well, not probably on the beach, but it's a much better place to run). Bad news: I have to run 17 miles! I'm kind of kidding- I'm scared of 17 but after surviving the madness of 15, it seems ok, sort of.:rolleyes1
Leana- mile 15 looks pretty speedy- I guess that's what the thought of potentially being eaten on the run can do for you! :scared1:
Becky- My DH teases me about being stubborn, but I'm thinking stubborn is a virtue in marathon training. "Crazy?... I'll show you crazy!"
Cam- ok, first where are you? Second, DH and I may break down and get a dog. Because of my allergies and his desire for a big dog, we are looking at a 7 month old Giant Schnauzer. Guess what sold me?! That's right- he's named CAM. We haven't met him or seen pictures yet, so it's not certain, but I thought his name was a sign from the WISH gods! ;)
Hey, anyone doing the Jacksonville Bank Half? I signed up because it fell on a LR day of 12 anyway and it was less than $30 so if I decide against it, it's not the end of the world...

Ha,ha, Judy.....I feel your pain. It reminds me of my one and only experience with Pilates several years ago. My girlfriend (who is also Pooh-shaped) and I decided we were going to enroll for some paid lessons at our local Y (now they are free) Well, in walked the instructor and she was like a 12 on a scale of 1 to 10. I think half her body was made by DuPont, but she was looking good. Both my GF and I lost our cores a long time ago and still haven't been able to locate them.....and it is VERY difficult to hold your abdominable muscles when you're laughing so hard. She did not like us very much. I guess she figured we were way beyond hope so she never spent any time giving us any personal guidance. We lasted the whole 5 or 6 class session (heck, we PAID for it!) but hated every minute. That was the end of my Pilates experience. Still haven't found my core......if anyone should see it out there, please send it back to me.

Hi everyone!
Yesterday I ran 30 minutes easy and it felt pretty good. It was pushing up against dark so I'm not sure I can do many more of those outside which is a bummer. Then I got my flu shot. THAT was stupid! My arm is killing me despite what the nurse said. And she was good, no question and very nice but my arm still hurts. Not much sleep last night and I was hoping to run a full hour tonight.
Stephanie: so sorry to hear how sick you are! Here's a  and get better soon.
Jen in GA: :thumbsup2 on the 8 miles and good luck on the 17. I'll be there with you as I run 17 this weekend too. Yikes!!
Leana: BEAR sighting!!! Gaaaa!!!!!

Lou - Awesome job on that race!! Don't you hate it when you do something you know you shouldn't and get yourself hurt?! I have done the exact same thing, and it hurts in the back of your knee doesn't it? Good news is with rest and ice it shouldn't take too long to feel better.
Dana - You are right. The pain is mostly in the back of the knee. I've been doing the whole R.I.C.E. thing and it has been feeling better. Yesterday I walked 1.5 miles on the treadmill just to loosen it up. Today I ran an easy 3 miles in under 30 minutes and it felt okay.
I think I am going to try what you did and stay away from running until after this weekend. I really would like to get to the Philly marathon injury free.

Hi, everyone! I'm sorry I've been MIA. Work is very busy and life is very busy and . . .. well, you all know what it is like. Once our kitchen renovation is done (we are in the middle of week 9 with next Friday being the estimated completion date with only some painting left to be done after Thanksgiving) and marching band season is over for DS14, I THINK my life will be a bit more my own.
In the meantime, I am still in PT 3x/week for the thoracic spine injury including rib and mid-trap involvement, whatever the heck that means! ;)
Jeanne and Judy and others -- I am right there with you on the looking-for-my-core stuff! All of the PT exercises I do at home are for that purposes. Supposedly it will not only help my back, but will, long-term, help my running. :woohoo:
Congratulations to everyone on their long runs! I am so excited for you! Still havent' figured out how in the world I might fit in some serious miles between now and the end of the year. I abandoned the TM after 6 miles last Saturday. I've done some other stuff this week including elliptical and recumbent bike, but I really miss racking up the miles! :sad2:
Cam- ok, first where are you? Second, DH and I may break down and get a dog. Because of my allergies and his desire for a big dog, we are looking at a 7 month old Giant Schnauzer. I ran 4.25 miles this morning. I ran a new route (Yep, with mace in hand. ) and it about killed me. I felt pretty safe cause it was on a busy four lane stretch and a fairly decent size sidewalk, but I didn't realize how STEEP it was. OMG! I was so out of breath. I haven't walked in awhile, but had to stop three times I think to catch by breath and walk some. I thought my pace was gonna stink, but I came home and it was 10:38! :woohoo: I think I've really finally broken that 11:00 something pace I've had for so long.
I hope my Gobble Jog 10K pace is decent. RFTT was slow for me. I drove the route the other day and it has some hills, but a very pretty course. :thumbsup2
Is anyone cold out there running? I'm in Georgia, but I still had to wear gloves and a stupid cap on my head this morning. I felt like a burglar. I love my vest, though. Best thing I've bought other than the Garmin! Running is expensive. :rotfl:

Hello, WISHers!
Jeanne - I've got 18 miles to do this weekend and I'm trying to decide where to do it. Any ideas?
Throwing out another option - Our group is running varying distances from 10-26 on Saturday, so you could always work in 18 with one of them... I'm still trying to decide between 8 and 10.
Stephanie - Hope you're feeling better SOON!
Shan - It's definitely gotten cold in NC. The gloves have come out.
I was supposed to run 3 last night after work, but felt rotten when I got home. Sat around feeling sorry for myself, then thought about not being able to color the calendar green (thanks a lot, GaJen!) and dragged myself over to the TM and managed 2.25, a lot of it walking. I figure I can count the miles, but they were ugly.
I have a nagging fear that I have stress fractures in both legs (that the one in the left foot never really healed). I am so determined to do the Half that I'm considering not going back to the doctor until January and then planning on taking whatever time I need to heal then, and just dealing with the pain until then. Am I obsessed?

Sorry, not time to catch up with everyone...but I actually exercised today! :woohoo:
I did 2.5 miles on the track in 30:12 while Zack was in his gym class. I really wanted to do 3 miles, but we were a bit late for class, and I ran out of time before he was done. I should have made hime walk the last .5 mile with me since he was SO slow getting out of the house! :rotfl:
Anyway, I am hoping I am back on the bandwagon.
OH - Target alert!!!
Halloween went 90% off this morning.
I hit 3 stores and got a ton of costumes to eBay next year.
And even some scrapbook stuff. If anyone here scraps, go to the scrap aisle. Then find anything & everything halloween or even fall-ish. Then scan - you might be surprised!
If anyone has any recommendations for a nice 4 door commuter car - please send them along. I am leaning towards the Toyota Matrix as it stands now. And I can't drive my car after Saturday - no inspection & honestly, it doesn't even feel too safe to be driving right now at all.
Off to the grocery store & to visit my Dad. He just got back from a business trip to India. I have to go check out the opals he brought back for my Mom. Hmph! My birthstone is opal! Not hers! ;)
Stephanie - get better soon!

Hey all!
Cam - Hi!! Just wanted to say how impressed I am with your effort and positive attitude while dealing with the injuries. How is Howard? Let him know that we all had a great time at MCM. Lot's of rumblings about a big group of us trying to do Philly next year. Are you guys in?
Lou - See above about Philly. I'm looking forward to hearing your impressions about the race. Get healthy and good luck!
Judy - I found my core. It's rotten.
Sara - I'd mentioned awhile back that I was trying the Costco brand of Slim Fast for a post-run recovery drink. No scientific studies to prove anything, but I think it serves the purpose pretty well. In addition, I noticed today that it also provides 35% of the daily allowance of Molybdinum.
We all know how important molybdinum is.
It put the "MO" in mo-mentum,
the mo in mo-jo,
the mo in mo' money.
The Italians even use it to put the mo in amore.
Marguiritas were originally Mo-guiritas until they discovered an adverse interaction with the taquila. That's why they had to invent the Mojito.:lmao:
Now I just have to figure out where to get my remaining 65% of Mo.
Krista and Steve - Are you guys ready for the Brownies this weekend?
Stephanie - Get better soon.
Has anyone seen Andrew lately? And where's Christa?
I did a great 8 miles Wednesday morning. Why was it so great, you ask? Was it because I felt so strong? No, I felt pretty crappy the whole time. Was it because I was especially fast? Nope, pretty mundane pace overall. It was great because I really didn't feel like going out at all but still did and got it done with. Yippee!

I got in 3 miles on the TM yesterday slow and easy along with some strength. I am stretching religiously now but still wearing my orthotics. I have hopes that I can get rid of them soon too and be back onto training for Minnie. Three miles is making me feel pretty bad and 9 seems like a long ways right now. OH - Target alert!!!
Halloween went 90% off this morning.
I hit 3 stores and got a ton of costumes to eBay next year.
Kristi - I thought I was the only one that did this. I have always said that you get more return investing in Halloween costumes (especially Disney ones) then in the stock market. I usually double or triple my money the next Halloween. As long as you are willing to sit on those costumes for about 10-11 months.
Mike - It would be great to see and meet some of the team in Philly next year. To be honest, I think I am going to run the NYC marathon next year and I'll see about Philly. They are 2 weeks apart so it's tough to do both. I get so crazy with this running anymore that I can see myself running both. I'll fill you in on Philly because it looks like a great course/race.

I think I'll get in a few miles on the TM this morning with a knee brace on. The knee is improving nicely but I don't think I'll run outside until next week because I want to heal up before Philly. I haven't been 100% pain free since I ran the Phila Distance Run back in September and it felt great to run that race without dealing with any pain. Gotta run off to work!

Another chilly day in Southern Ky. I'll be going to the treadmill if the gym is open today. Legs and achillies are still timid after the 16 miler on tuesday.

Here are my answers to 2 of the questions:
1. The speed of dark is faster than the noise you hear behind you :scared1: (coming from an early AM runner).
2. If you get scared half to death twice you should feel more alive than ever!! ;)
I have decided to start measuring my workouts in time not miles since I am discouraged with only 3 miles so....today I am going to do 60 minutes on the elliptical at the gym. Heck a little XT never hurt anyone, right??!! :rolleyes1

Good Morning Everyone!
It's nice and frosty here in Georgia this morning. A good day for a run! This is my third training day in a row and I have to say that I am ready for a rest day!
I was only able to get 4.5 in last night and I walked a little of that. I think this cold I have is zapping my energy. I was planning to run 8 today but I think I will shave it down to 6.
Oh, my FIL gave me an incredible tip. If you have a stuffy nose and can't breathe at night, then right before bedtime put Vicks on your feet and cover them with socks. I have not idea why, but it really does work.
I am so determined to do the Half that I'm considering not going back to the doctor until January and then planning on taking whatever time I need to heal then, and just dealing with the pain until then. Am I obsessed? :scared1: Jackie!!! :scared1: Yes, even I would call that obsessed. I think there is something terrible that can happen to untreated stress fractures but I forget what it is.
It was great because I really didn't feel like going out at all but still did and got it done with. Yippee! Amen to that. Way to go! Sometimes the only satisfaction you get from a run is that it is over.
Is it to early to start getting excited about the January trip? No it is not too early! I can hardly wait!
ooo, And I vote for the panda on the slide! too cute! Nice job finding all the Panda pictures.

I have noticed that some of you are still missing your WDW race pics (ya know, the mickey's, donald's, and goofy's), since Sunny's site is down. So what I did is saved them to my photobucket account, and if anyone wants to use them you are more than welcome to.

Slowly on the mend here. Fever has subsided, thank God. But the throat is still very raw. I'm in the dumps b/c I haven't been able to train this week, except for Monday. And right now, my LR for the weekend, is VERY iffy. Oh well, I guess I just live vicariously through ya'll.

Good morning team! Sorry that I've been MIA again, but I've had a stomach virus since last Friday (no, it's not morning sickness ;) ) and I haven't been able to run much, just did 3 miles on Sunday and that's it. One good thing about the stomach virus is that it's helping me to lose weight. I was looking at our pictures on the computer from our Disney trips the last 2 years, man I was SKINNY in 2005! And then I started running and then I started eating and now I'm not so skinny any more. I completely blame running and thinking that you can eat whatever you want when you are running 20+ miles a week. ;)
Cam--I hope life slows down for you soon and you get time for YOU! Good luck with the kitchen remodel, Stephen and I are thinking about painting our kitchen this weekend before we put our Christmas tree up, but I don't know if we have the energy!
MS Dave--Here we go Steelers, here we go!!!! And do you know what's even better about the Steelers doing so good this year, all the Bungals fans are depressed because the Bungals stink! And Chris Henry was arrested again yesterday, so that's nice. He's been back on the team for a couple of days and then arrested again!
Mike--You tell the Brownies to bring it!!!!!! I'm drinking a Slim Fast right now too, but I want my money back, mine only has 30% of Molybdenum!! But it does have 35% Pantothenic Acid, so that's good. I guess. :confused3
Stephanie--I hope you feel better soon!!!!! :wizard: :wizard: Don't worry at all about missing runs, even your lr, you are in awesome shape and completely, 10000% ready for the marathon!
Jackie--Sorry about your legs!! I'm with Cecilia, untreated stress fractures can do BAD things, don't risk your health for 1 run. Get to the doctor and see what he/she has to say!
Helen--YAY!!!!! I'm so happy that you and Tim are really, really coming now!!! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:
Mel--Sorry that life is so hectic for you right now! Oh, you will be so proud of me, I am down to only 1 can of Diet Coke a day! Can you believe it? Me, the queen of caffeine!
Sorry that I've missed people, but I need to get back to my Christmas shopping on-line, huh I mean work. ;)

Hi Everyone.
I love this thread! It's so active.
I hope everyone that isn't feeling so great is feeling better soon.
I completed Workout 2 on the 5K program last night. It ended up being 1.25 miles but this time instead of taking 22 minutes to finish it, I finished it in under 20 minutes. :cool1: It also was a little easier this time. I'm actually looking forward for the next workout tomorrow.
Talk to you all soon.

princessrunner: I am now doing all my long runs by time and not miles. I was obsessing on figuring out the miles then psyching myself out with how many miles it should be that running by time seems to be better for me. Even my shorter runs now are times and not miles. My shortest runs are 30 minutes. It works for me!
Stephanie: glad to hear you are on the mend and hope it continues. Chicken soup, they say, is good for many things!
WWDave: my daughter has been following the San Diego Zoo's panda naming for the baby panda. They say they wait 100 days before naming the cub as is Chinese tradition. So, are you going to wait 100 days before making a decision on the avatar?

Martha: Thanks for the reinforcement. I was beginning to feel I was the only one obsessing about how far I went. Now I just have to tell myself it does not matter how far, it is how long. I figured I would not go under 30 minutes unless I got pain. I was mad about having to walk some as I was running before but now, I just have to take a breath and let it go. Walking...good...pain, not so good!! :goodvibes

I have a nagging fear that I have stress fractures in both legs (that the one in the left foot never really healed). I am so determined to do the Half that I'm considering not going back to the doctor until January and then planning on taking whatever time I need to heal then, and just dealing with the pain until then. Am I obsessed?
Jackie - If it is a stress fracture you definitely should be taking it easy. If you subject it to repetative stress the bone can break completely.
Kristi - I used to drive a Matrix and I LOVED it! I used to have the XRS - tons of zip and plenty of room to haul stuff around. The only reason I don't have it still is because I moved back to Canada from the US and it wasn't worth it to import the car across the border. And then I moved home and the car was more expensive than I could afford here. Shucks!
cguill - Welcome to the group!
Optimator Mike - Molybdenum...that cracked me up! Good job on getting those 8 miles in.
Lou - I hope your knee is feeling better.
Panda Dave - I vote for the panda going down the slide! We'll be in WDW on the Tuesday and Wednesday post marathon, but I already booked Le Cellier and the Biergarten, but on opposing days. I feel a bit silly for going to eat at the Canadian restaurant, but I'm curious to see what constitutes Canadian food, because despite the fact that I live here I feel a bit clueless about it. The only remarkable Canadian food I know is poutine. Fries with gravy and cheese curds....yummy!
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a6/OriginalPoutineLaBanquise.jpg/800px-
Stephanie - Take care of yourself and don't worry about that LR this weekend. I hope you feel better soon!
Krista - I hope you feel better soon too!
Martha - Good job with your training!
In other news - I finally booked flights to WDW for January!!! I found the perfect flights on air miles yesterday so I booked it. Now how is this for crazy....I have to work Wednesday, but I want to get to the expo on Thursday with plenty of time to buy Goofy merchandise. So....I'm taking a red eye at midnight on Wednesday and I get in at 1 pm on Thursday. I can sleep fairly well on planes so here's hoping I don't regret this crazy decision later....

Good morning WISH Team.
Party Panda is going into hybernation for the next 2 months and Warrior Panda will be the bear.
I want to get through the Goofy without looking and feeling like I was hit by a charging rhino. So the next 2 months I'm all about taking care of business when it comes to my training.
My problem is, I know how, but I've been to lazy to put all the pieces together. I'm pretty good about the warm-up but my cool down is usually way to short and I neglect my stretching and core work. That is going to change. For 2 months I've making a surpreme effort to put it all together.
Today's workout was as perfect as I could make it:
A half mile easy warm-up, walking from 3 to 4 mph on the tready.
3 miles at varing pace walking from 12 to 13 mpm.
A quarter mile of easy walking to cool down.
200 meters of pool running with high knee lift.
A good calistetics routine in the pool for extra resistance.
Stretching in the hot whirlpool tub.
Then a good low fat high protien and carb lunch.
I can't figure out how to get the panda avatars I've found to load. I'm going to edit avatar and there is a block for the info and a browse button for everything I copy in there will not do anything wnhen I hit save.
Have a great day y'all.

Well.... I am giving myself a HUMONGOUS pat on the back today!! Here's why, last night at 1 am (technically I guess that's morning huh?) little Lucas (3yrs old) decided to come climb in bed with me. Not a horrible thing usually, but once he gets in bed he won't stop talking and playing. I finally get him to settle down and notice that he's really breathing kind of funny, real fast like. All of a sudden he tells me he's gonna be sick, I grab him and fly to the Master Bathroom where thankfully we made it to the toilet in time. Unfortunately, we spent the entire night with him sick. The reason for the pat on the back?! Because now that he is feeling better, I pulled out the treadmill and still ran 10.5 miles on no sleep!! Goodness knows I REALLY didn't want to, but I talked myself into it by stressing the fact that this was the first week I have ever hit 40 miles, and that I definately wouldn't be able to do that if I bailed on todays run!! So that's it, I am done with that run. I still have 2 miles with Michael this afternoon when he gets home from school. Then 20 on Saturday. And all still relatively pain free!!
Here's todays splits -
Mile 1 - 9:07 Mile 2 - 8:37 Mile 3 - 9:04
Mile 4 - 8:37 Mile 5 - 8:37 Mile 6 - 9:13
Mile 7 - 8:37 Mile 8 - 9:06 Mile 9 - 8:53
Mile 10 - 8:03 Mile 10.5 - 4:38
10.50 miles
1:32:32 (8:48/mile)
Off to go check on the little one now. I hope I get to check back in later.

Doesn't helo that the doc told me the shorter leg would always be prone to hammy issues. Well, it seemed ot work, but short strides feel like I'm workign 10 times harder. Cam...maybe we need a new acronym...BTO (Band Takes Over) ;) Kaley's football team made it to districts so marching season's not over yet, Veteran's Day parade this weekend, Xmas parade next month and then concert band season starts :scared: How about you, Jackie?
Mel -- That is a great acronym!! Congrats to Kaley's school! University of Delaware is now 8-1 and going to championship playoffs, so Jenn's season is extended (God only knows the impact on exams so far and I am so glad we aren't going away over Thanksgiving because she wouldn't be going with us). Andrew's school also is now guaranteed a spot in the state championships and his band will play at every football game. He also has 2 Christmas parades, one the day after Thanksgiving and one a week later, so we are in for the long haul with him, too!
Weeeehheeeeee - Tim's holiday got approved. That's it, we're definiltely 100 per cent coming. I'm gonna go Gooooofffffyyyyyyyyyy
Oh, Helen! I am so happy! We haven't seen you since Main Street in Disneyland during the inaugural half-marathon week! Can't wait for January. Now just be sure to plan your flights so you can be at all the WISH meets!
Hey all!
Cam - Hi!! Just wanted to say how impressed I am with your effort and positive attitude while dealing with the injuries. How is Howard? Let him know that we all had a great time at MCM. Lot's of rumblings about a big group of us trying to do Philly next year. Are you guys in?
Thank you, Mike!! I am so inspired by everyone here and so many people have worked through much more serious health concerns, and really, we're supposed to be "endurance" athletes, right? ;) Howard is very much planning on MCM for 2008 and now you tell us you're doing Philly instead? :sad1: Are we always going to be a year behind you? We are supporting our friend/my partner, Jessica at Philly next weekend. It will be her first marathon. I don' t know how anyone can survive that without the WISH team, but we'll be there this year as spectators. Right now, Howard is beyond excited knowing that come mid-May, his training/competition schedule will be governed only by his desires and personal commitments, and not by his school commitments. :woohoo:
Hey, did everyone see the ToT picture thread I started? Lots of fun ones there, including a great one of Anne as a gorgeous blonde, Kristi as a saucy wench, and one of Krista and Stephen being their wonderful, fun-loving selves! Oh, and you have to see Craig as a surfer dude and Martha as the crazy elephant driver (yeah, that's not fear you see in Judy's eyes, it's pure, unadulterated joy!) I still can't run, Dr., said it will be OK to walk so I am focusing on getting my knee better so I am not hobbling around when I am 70.

Oh, Leana, I could never eat the poutine, I was able to stomach a little salty gravy, but not both.
Judy, I didn't know Charlie was running the full! How is his training coming along?
As for training, I am doing a lot of walking, 60 minutes today, pool running (45 minutes yesterday), a few ellipticals thrown in and my new favorite YOGA! Loving that yoga, should have started this years ago, but there are just not enough hours in the day. Mel - We're lucky. Even though the football team made the playoffs, we're away this weekend and the band isn't traveling with the team. We only have the Christmas parade to go, then the rest is just classroom stuff.
Mike - Hooray for doing the 8 miles even when you didn't feel like it. I'm having one of those weeks and every step is a struggle, so I totally applaud you for getting it done!
Panda Dave - We leave in 63 days. No, it's never too early!
Lisa - There's nothing wrong with 3 miles. Galloway told us we really only have to run 3 miles 2x/week in addition to our long run. I know most plans call for a lot more than that, but he claims you can prepare for a marathon doing it that way.
Dana - You are Wonder Woman! First of all, for making it to the bathroom in time, then for running 10.5 miles on the treadmill with no sleep? You deserve a reward tonight!
All right, all right. Since not one of you told me it was probably okay to keep running, I'll call the doctor and see if I can get a professional opinion. Maybe I'm overreacting to the pain and it's really nothing...
In the meantime, I'm supposed to do 3 miles today - it ain't happenin'. Mike and Dana may have what it takes to get it done; I don't!

Can someone explain tapering to me? I have read about it here, and in MFM, but still just dont get it??? Wouldnt it be better to keep going right up until the race, then cut back after to recover?
Angie--the whole philosophy behind tapering for a marathon or any endurance event is to give your body time to recover from the intense training you've been doing for several months before you put the body through the rigors of a full race. Tapering is more important than ever if: 1.) your race is a distance longer than what you've done in training or 2.) you plan to run the race harder (ie--with more effort) than your training.
I believe early marathoners did not taper before marathons, but research and experience has taught endurance athletes that a proper tapering period does not decrease fitness and muscle, but actually increases energy and allows a well-deserved rest for the body in preparation for the "big day."
If you were to train hard right up until the day of the race, your body would be overly tired and you could set yourself up for injury by forcing a longer distance on tired legs.
The taper period can play all sorts of games on your mind (hence the taper madness that everyone talks about around here) since you've been training so hard for so long and all of the sudden, you are cutting back on your mileage significantly. But trust all of those who have done it in the past--it really does work.
Hope this helps!

Krista - my fellow diet coke junkie is down to one measley can a day?! ;) Man! I keep trying to cut down to 2 per day, and haven't succeeded yet. I really need to work on that!
Today was a scheduled rest day, so I scrapbooked all afternoon.
Tomorrow is 40 mins. xt. I won't be able to get out of that since I have to be at the Y with Zack for swim class anyway. Might as well workout while I am there, right?

I feel a bit silly for going to eat at the Canadian restaurant, but I'm curious to see what constitutes Canadian food, because despite the fact that I live here I feel a bit clueless about it. The only remarkable Canadian food I know is poutine. Fries with gravy and cheese curds....yummy!Leana - Sadly, no poutine at Le Cellier.:sad2: My dad is from the boonies in Quebec and most of his family still lives in the same little town. My cousin use to own the poutine stand there. That and Grandma's meat pies are the only foods I associate as "Canadian".
Dana - Did you count the race to the bathroom as speed work? Good job on the run. I have trouble running that fast on a TM.
Cam - Be sure to tell Howard we are not trying to avoid him:laughing: . Too many races, too little time! Be sure to let us know what your impressions of the Philly race are.
Judy - Way to threaten that knee! Gotta let it know who's boss.
Krista - Keep your stinkin' cans of Steeler swill! Now if you want to forward along some cans of Iron City (do they still brew that?), feel free.
Jackie - Yah, what they said about seeing a doctor.
Martha - Great job on the 60 minutes. How many minutes do you have on tap for this weekend?
I got in 5 miles this evening. No muss, no fuss.
Have a great day everyone.

Good morning Team
Yesterday this tech caveman learned to view his bank statement on line. I even tried a transfer to savings. Really intense stuff, I'm sweating already.
Today's schedule is 4 miles on the hills. It's 47 degrees so I can do that without freezing. After the walk training I'll do core work and stretching, yes I will. No more lazy Panda.
Little survey couriousity this morning: How many people on the board drink milk regularly and do you drink whole, skim or 2%?
The only milk I use is skim on my cereal in the mornings. I use a tiny bit of cream in my coffee in reastraunts but at home I use the liquid coffee mate.
Have an awesome friday and great training today Team Mates.

WWDave: Congrats on the online banking. Isn't technology great!!
I drink 16 oz of skim milk and 16 oz of soy milk a day. Soy gives you the same benefit as cow's milk without the lactic acid. I use soy milk on my cereal in the morning. I do admit to powder creamer in my coffee. DH makes is mighty strong in the morning so I do it out of self defense. For a treat sometimes, my kids like vanilla soy milk so I get that for them on cereal in the morning.

Hi Everyone-
My beloved rest day has arrived! Ahhh. Between a minor cold and 40+ mile weeks, I need my rest days!
Actually, I think it is perfect. The WDW marathon messes up your entire internal clock anyway so why not? You have to get up at 3am to get on a bus by 4am to sit and wait until 6am to run until 8am then you take a nap and start all over only to run twice as far the next day. I think arriving at 1am makes perfect sense! lol.
I want to get through the Goofy without looking and feeling like I was hit by a charging rhino. Oh now THAT is the perfect goal, can I steal it? I keep telling people I just want to finish on my feet, but I like your goal much better!
Dana - you ARE amazing! A sick kid is supposed to be a legit excuse for missing a run! So is no sleep. Remind me to line up BEHIND you at the marathon!Little survey curiousity this morning: How many people on the board drink milk regularly and do you drink whole, skim or 2%?
I drink 8 oz of skim milk twice to three times a day. By the way, milk is now $4.22 a gallon in Georgia. Ouch.
Also, I am trying something new this week, its called NuVim and its at WalMart in an OJ carton. Its supposed to be good for you and tastes like it. I usually drink a glass of milk immediately after a run but I am using this stuff instead. I haven't decided whether or not to recommend it yet.
Have a great day everyone,
Cecilia

HI Team!!! Wednesday I did 50 minutes on the TM and last night I went to bootcamp. Bootcamp kicks my butt but I really like it for cross training. Tomorrow I have 14 miles on queue. That will be my longest mileage to date, so I am a little scared about it. Mostly because it is sooooo cold here and we have the possibility of rain. I have no clue if I will be running indoors or outdoors. 30 degrees with rain doesn't sit well with me for running.
Dana - Isn't it amazing how fast we move when a child is ready to vomit????
Cam - That is really nice of your daughter. My DH will be with the kids, otherwise I would take you up on the offer!!!
Leana - Oh that poutine looks yummy. We are so close to the Canadian border that we have some of the same foods here. Like the meat pies that Mike mentioned and of course cheese curds (but haven't had gravy on them before!)
OK, work is absolutely nuts for me so I get little time to chat with you all. GOOD LUCK to all the LR's and Races this weekend.

YAY!! I actually got a full night's sleep last night!! I crashed at like 9pm!! Today is a rest day, well if you count housework as resting. Maybe I should consider it XT!! Michael got 2 miles in when he got home from school yesterday. He is really in a get up and go mode with his running now that football is over. None of the usual fussing. And he's even running faster.
Well... I am off to clean out my car and give it a good bath. I'll check back in later.

I have a 4 miler this afternoon & then 14 miles in the morning, should be a nice brisk run, at least its with a group.
How many of you do your long runs on Saturday Morning ??? I usually do & fortunately their is a group of about 30-40 that usually show up all different paces, helps me get thru those long runs, how about y'all ???

Had to do the walk of shame out of the gym this morning. Luckily, the old guy at the counter didn't mess with me. ;)
I was all gungho to do 5 miles today because I'm doing a 5k tomorrow and I was supposed to do 8 miles total tomorrow. I was thinking I'd just skip my rest day and do the 5 miles, do the 5k Saturday, and then do 17 miles on Sunday. I started thinking about it and realized that was a really, really stupid plan (my last rest day was Monday). So I lifted a few weights and left!
I bought new shoes at our pathetic store in the mall, and they're great (so far). Funny thing is that when I read reviews, they started out really positive and then turned dramatically negative to the point that one of the reviewers questioned whether they switched manufacturing companies at some point. That's the beauty of going to the pathetic mall store- there's no doubt they were left over from the time period when they were still good! My kingdom for a decent running store nearby!!
WTO! WTO! Alas, my Friday just turned on me. Sorry it's all about me. Oh, and Dave, I drink low fat plain soy milk. Actually, I only put it on cereal. I use it because my kids like it and I'm too lazy to buy skim just for me. Soy ice cream by the way is delicious if you get the right kind. If you get the wrong kind, it tastes like nail polish remover.
Have a good Friday/weekend everyone!

Happy Friday to all and Happy Anniversary Kristi and whoever else's anniversary is today (its also my sister's anniversary)
Today is a rest day for me - I went out yesterday morning for another 2 miler. I am thinking of doing a 4 mile run on Thanksgiving AM - prize for the first 600 runners who finish is an apple pie - I told my sister I will most likely be bringing an apple pie to Thanksgiving, she also wants a key lime pie (my specialty) so I will do that as well.
Good luck to all who have LR's planned this weekend. I am not doing anything long distance this weekend (maybe I can get more scrapbooking done)
Panda - to answer your milk question - no I don't drink alot of milk but if I do have it I buy the skim milk and if they don't have any in a small bottle I will settle for the 1 or 2% never whole milk. And for my coffee I do not like milk products - I prefer the non dairy creamers like International Delight. I know I should drink more milk but I don't. Is there more to your research??

Jen: Happy (belated) Anniversary to you too!

Dave: the only milk I ever take is in cereal (a little) or in my coffee (even less) and I will use whatever is available. But I think I'm in trouble......I had a bone density screening done at the Expo this past weekend and failed. I always thought that one of the best preventative measures was weight-bearing exercise and Lord knows, I have alot of weight to bear! I'm not going anywhere with the milk survey per say, just that we share ideas about training and diet, so I was going to help that along.
You hear a lot of good and bad about milk. I'm courious about what everyone else does. We have already had some good feed back on things like soy milk and ice cream. I for one had never even thought about that. I just might try some now.

Just as a FYI on soy milk as opposed to cow's milk: it is lower in saturated fats and cholesterol than cow's milk so if you have cholesterol issues, it is a better choice. The calcium that is in soy is not as readily absorbed in your body as from cow's milk so if you are looking for the calcium from milk, better to stick with good old moo juice. I take calcium and vitamin D (especially in our less sunny winter months) so the calcium is not a concern to me. Being from a mother with hereditary high cholesterol, that is a concern for me so we raise organic beef and I drink soy milk!!!! Good luck with the polling.

Jen in GA - I actually think your revised gym plan was smart, considering what else you have going on. AND you did SOMETHING instead of nothing! :woohoo:
Well, I figured if I committed here to doing it, I'd stick with it. Going for 14 miles tomorrow. I downloaded "coach carter" "glory road" and "the greatest game ever played" to my video ipod, as well as some new eye candy music videos :lmao: and some new music. I'm almost back to 100%. So I think I'll give my LR a shot on Sunday. If I bag it short of the 14 miles, I won't be disappointed. But I'll at least get out there and see what the ole body will handle.
On the milk topic, only what is in ice cream or yogurt here. We used to drink skim milk--but with buying whole milk for the kiddos, I can't afford to buy that much milk. Yikes on almost $4 a gallon for milk! But am getting the calcium and VitD via supplements.

Well, well, welll...funny you should ask. Well, really not funny as of a couple hours ago. :sad2:
Today started off as a great Friday. Got to work and Chad had left me a card and rose on my keyboard at work (he left work at 2am, we work at the same place). Very sweet!
So, I call him when I am driving home this morning. And he tells me the bad news. Basically, he has to agree to be available 24/7 or he is being laid off. His boss hired him in June knowing that we can't overlap schedules with a child at home. He's been there 5 months, is now fully trained, and they are doing this? If they would give him FT with benefits, I could probably quit and find something else PT instead, close to home. This just stinks! :sad1:
So, car shopping is out the window. Thank God we didn't find the car of our dreams and already buy it!

That is what me and DH do as well. Our anniversary (Nov 18) happens to fall usually on or around the weekend of the NASCAR race in Homestead. This will be our 6th year going to the race (7th anniversary) and 4th year in a row we have stayed in the Keys at the same place and make a trip of it. Plus the owners of the resort always acknowledge its our anniversary and welcome us back. As most of you know, we've had a bad guy in my area trying to grab women runners. I signed up for a safety clinic at the running store I just bought my new shoes at. I hope I learn something!
Cecilia, it is at Big Peach Running off Johnson Ferry if you're interested. It is next Wednesday at 7 PM. You have to register, but it is free.
I ran 4 miles this morning at an average pace of 10:28. I've only run this pace once before and it was for a 2 mile run. :woohoo:
I'm happy my pace is getting better, but for some reason I've been in a real funk. I'm eating myself crazy. If it wasn't for the running I'd be the size of a house. I've gained 4 pounds since summer ended and that is alot for me - I'm right under 5 foot! :sad2:

Hello All,
Just checking in. Did 16 mile LR today; it was a chilly 44 degrees. Did my 5min/1min run/walk; my average was 11:00 min/mile.
I think I may have finally learned to stick with vanilla flavored gel, as today I tried Strawberry Clif Shot at mile 5: Yuk! I was out of vanilla, so rather than try the Razz flavor I had with me, I ran by the house at mile 8, changed my sweaty hat and gloves, scarfed down a few pretzels and 16 ozs of Powerade and headed back out (oooh, so tempting to just stop and hit a hot shower).
Anyway, I'm both a little excited and scared to think I have only 3 more long runs until WDW Marathon Weekend.

I knew I wanted to do a long r/w today so I took the day off from work. I picked a point to point route and timed it so I would get to the end at about the time a friend got out of work (so she could give me a ride home).
I ended up doing 10.77 miles in 2:37:35. It comes out to roughly a 14:50 mpm pace. I lost a couple minutes getting stuck a traffic lights and when I was eating my Cliff Bar. I think I'm going to have to stick with the Cliff Shotblocks instead of the bars. I can't seem to keep a quick pace when trying to eat the bar. I'll have to figure it out soon. When I finished, I was wiping my brow and wiped off a bunch of salt from my skin. Need to make sure I eat something that will replenish that, especially during the full.
Oh yeah, no blisters! (love those Injinji's)

Jeanne - Maybe I'll see you out there. I've worked up an 18 mile route around Wakefield (and Crenshaw and Forest Pines...) and DH (who will stop at 12 miles) will start around 8:00 or so. Good luck with the 16!
