I want to create a photo mosaic of our 1200+ pictures from our WDW trip. Does anyone have a great photo of Cinderella's Castle? I thought I would use that as the image to create with the mosaic. I appreciate your help!

If anyone has any other suggestions for the main image to represent our WDW trip, I'm open to it. Suggest away!

Good point! I failed to say that we've done this once before and used Mickey! My next thought was to use Donald or Minnie, etc. But, I want to give a copy to the two other families on our trip who don't have a Mickey mosaic. So a secondary character might look out of place on their walls.

Thanks for the thought, it was a good one!

Here is a picture of the mosaic we did last time. It is really quite large and it is framed and hanging in our hallway. When you stand close to it, you can see all the individual photos. It's a very cool reminder of that trip.

Please help me find an image for this trip. Come on...I know you have some great ideas and some great photos...please share! :goodvibes

What do you use to make the mosaic?? Sounds like it would take a lot of time to do.

There are a few different software programs out there to choose from. I have one somewhere I got a few years ago but never got around to using it. After this next trip I may do a Disney Mosaic. I should have, between the 4 trips, around 3,000 pics to choose from.

Basically you tell the program which folder(s) to choose the pictures from and it puts the mosaic together for you using the pictures in the folder(s).

The program we're using is AndreaMosaic. It's freeware. If you do a Google search it should take you to it. We did create one with a Cinderella's Castle picture and it turned out very well. I just don't like the castle picture we have. There are people in the front and the top of the castle is cut off. I just need a nice clean image.

I've been wanting to do this for a while. How large is your print? Did the place that printed it express any copyright concerns over the mickey image? How many photos are used, not the number of unique photos, but the dimensions of the output (500x500 mini-photos, etc)?

My sister free-handed the Mickey picture. But she also printed it from a special printer where she works so no copy-right concerns either way. Our picture is 20" x 24" including a white border that surrounds the mosaic. It is 18 pictures high by 14 pictures wide. So the pictures are pretty big and easy to see when you stand close.

Thanks to whomever took this picture! I hope it's okay to use it.

dr&momto2boys-

I have downloaded the program and working on loading all the pictures into the software. Where did you find the castle picture you used? It is perfect. I searched through some of the "empty park" thread but didn't find anything that looked like your picture. Thanks in advance!!!

Be careful when using someone elses pictures without their prior consent...some people are kind of touchy about that.

I have a couple photos that are close to what was used, but the crane will need to be photoshopped out first.

BTW, I don't mind if you use these photos. I will look for better photos when I have time.

Here are a couple mosaics I created that I thought turned out neat.

good point

just as an FYI for anyone on this thread, tempted to take and use other peoples pics without asking...

the penalty for copyright infringement, can be as high as 100,000 per image per usage..

asking is free...:thumbsup2

Here is another castle photo that might work. I tried it out and it came out okay. I think the photos with a bight blue sky work better than the ones with clouds because there is more of a contrast in the mosacis.

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/baerstaci/DSC01842.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/baerstaci/DSC01842Mosaic.jpg

I also think if I would have done more photos per line to make them smaller, it might have turned out a little better. I am still learning/playing!

This one with a lot of contrast turned out better (I think) and I used smaller tiles.

I've had the AndreaMosaic site bookmarked for ages since someone else mentioned it here and finally decided to give it a try. Anyway, I'm having trouble creating my collection of tiles. When I click on "find tiles" and "create collection" it shows me my folders etc., but it's not "seeing" the .jpg files in the folders. The instructions are not very clear on this point, but it looks like you should be able to open the .jpg files and save them as .amc files, and I can't.

I did a quick search in their forums and found a couple of posts describing the same problem but no enlightening responses--more like, "read the directions stupid." :lmao: I tried renaming one of my images with the file extension ".amc" and now it sees that image? Do I have to rename each one individually or is there some way to make the software do that for me?

Am I just being an idiot and missing something?

I downloaded andrea mosaic and had trouble at first too but found that when the box came up and asked to "save" but no list came up I typed in my file name that I wanted to call the list and clicked save and it saved the photos.

Try choosing a list name click save and see if it has the photos in the collection then.

it was confusing

MickeyWanaBe- I tried using the program last night with little success. I got the photos uploaded, added a so-so castle picture, and left the settings in the "default" mode. What type of settings are you using to get such amazing turn out?? I need a dummies book for this software....and I'm usually computer literate!! LOL!!!

Please feel free to PM or email me..

Thanks--that worked! I figured it was something simple.

And now for another stupid question :headache: , what are you all using to view the end result? Neither Windows nor PSE seems to recognize that file format.

ETA: Nevermind my last question. I found the jpg file. :badpc: It was in the folder the picture for the mosaic came from, not the one with the tiles.

and here it is . . . .

I have just started using the program so I have been playing around with the settings. It is usually different each time. I usually bump up the number of tiles per row. It starts out at 20 and I have it set anywhere from 45 to 65 depending on how small I want the tiles to be. If you are creating a landscape photo you will need something on the higher end; portrait will take less. I keep an eye on the total photos used in the mosaic size box. I aim for 2-4 times the total number of photos I have in the collection to use. Depending on the number of repeats you allow, you could run out of pictures and end up with black holes if your number is too high. The smaller the tile the better the final mosaic will come out, but you won't be able to make out the smaller photos unless you print the final mosaic pretty big. I plan on printing mine poster size through Walgreens and hopefully they will be big enough. The width of the tile I usually do between 100-200. 0 for black line. Minimum distance between doubles is usually around 10 (make it smaller if you are working with less photos). Reuse pictures anywhere from 4 to 10 depending on the size of the collection of photos. And I allow the photos to be modified 10% to 20%. And that is all I usually change. Clear as mud, right? I have just been playing around with it and changing the numbers a little here and there. My first try just looked like a bunch of photos pasted together...

Another thing I have found that helps is contrast in the pictures. A photo with a bright blue sky behind the castle will turn out better than a photo with clouds behind it.

Can anyone tell me what causes the discoloration in the top right of this picture??? :confused3 My DH had several pictures from our recent trip that had the same thing and he spent quite a bit of time photoshopping it out of the pictures. :surfweb:

Looks like a smear on the lens. especially if it was one quite a few pictures.

It was actually something inside the camera. I noticed it showed up one day while on vacation. DH tried cleaning the lens, but it didn't help. The rest of the pictures from that trip had it and once in a while it would move. When we got home DH opened the camera (p&s) and clean it.
