View Full Version : Where's all the great DVC merchandise?
We need better DVC merchandise to choose from at the resorts. A few weeks ago BCV had the same merchandise I bought at OKW over a year ago. I would love to have a couple of new sweatshirts and polo’s. Another area that DVC could rake in the money would be an online store. I know I couldn't resist. Anyone else out there looking for more too?

I agree!!! In September we stayed at BWV's and I had a hard time finding anything DVC. We need more cause I sure would buy.

Yes! It is frustrating that the choices are so limited. I would be quite happy to have more merchandise to chose from!

One of my rituals is to buy a new baseball cap... sometimes it is hard to find a new one.

It would be so nice to have more selections, both of general DVC merchandise as well as resort-specific things. ITA that DVC needs an online store, too! :thumbsup2

Sounds like the merchandising king (Disney) has fallen asleep in this market. I know as a new DVC member, I am disappointed in the lack of merchandise....I can't believe Disney is passing up a dollar....

I agree 100% we NEED:idea: online DVC shopping!! They could so easily link it to the member website.:surfweb:
I know that they argued that there wouldn't be enough business to keep a site going. But that was years ago when there were fewer than 50,000 members. Now that we have over 115,000 member families, I can't believe it wouldn't be profitable. The company I work for only has about 10,000 employees and we have our own online store. I can tell you that I would rather have a DVC polo any day.
I guess another question would be, what would you like them to offer? Are there any items that you would be excited to see on a DVC merchandise website?

Anything DVC specific that fits one of these 2 catagories would work for me. Clothing that I can wear out to show everyone I'm a DVC member. And anything for the home so I can fix up my house to remind me of my DVC villas.

I would buy, so they really should get on the stick. They are missing out on quite a bit of profit, if the responses on the boards are any indication.

Yeah, that's really my biggest complaint about Disney..not enough places with merchandise!

Where are the best places to buy merchandise? We are taking our 1st trip home in January and DH is already making a mental list of things to buy.

Just returned from SSR. Really wanted a "girl" shirt and all they had was a pink T with glitter--not my style. Had to buy the polo. It's OK. Was glad they had that--last year at OKW they only had men's T and polo.
I would love to find a small back pack for the parks and maybe a carry-on size bag. The cloth bags are HUGE!. I 'd also like a license plate for the front of our car.

I'll play devil's advocate and simply point out that Disney/DVC has 16+ years worth of merchandise sales figures and DVC membership numbers to drive their manufacturing decisions.
I think the biggest issue may be the fact that members only see brief snapshots of what is available during any given trip. In the relatively short 5 1/2 years since our first DVC stay, I've seen quite a wide variety of items offered. I have seen MANY different shirt designs--t-shirts, polos, long sleeve, short sleeve, tank, men's designs, women's designs, resort-specific, generic, and so on.
I have also seen magnets, Christmas ornaments, glasses, keychains, jackets, bags, license plates, umbrellas, caps, fanny packs, water bottles, luggage tags, resort artwork, can cozys......the list seems endless.
To me it's more of an immediate gratification thing...just because they don't have a particular item when you visit doesn't mean they have never made such an item or that they never will again. If we want to continue seeing new products they have to phase-out the old.
The resorts we tend to spend the most time at are the BoardWalk and Saratoga. IMO, both seem to carry a good variety of DVC items. SSR's shop is fairly small, but about half of it is devoted to DVC items. If I could only visit one location, that would probably be it. BWV usually has a good selection along the far right-hand side of the store (if standing on the BW looking toward the store).

When you say "the store", is this a DVC store only, or are you talking about regular gift shops that have a DVC section? Specifically where is the DVC merch. section at BWV? :coffee:

Just last week, in SSR, the store only had one stand-alone section with DVC merchandise and one wall unit about 3' wide with DVC polos and a shelf or 2 were empty.. They had 2 wall sections with SSR specific items.
This wasn't even 1/4 of the store.:confused3

The DVC merchandise is not in the BW gift shop but in a store on the BW itself - "Screen Door/Character Carnival" (one long connected store). IMO, the selection is weak. I go to BWV every year since 2000 and have not seen much variety. One year the selection was so sparse, I was told I should shop for DVC items over at the BC instead. In the least, each DVC resort should be well-stocked with DVC merchandise - doesn't seem to be the case.
I don't know what they should do but all I know is that every year I come home disappointed I couldn't spend MORE money on DVC merchandise. Would think Disney would not want that!:thumbsup2

yes I have seen all the different merchandise over the years, but that doesnt do much for the variety now. It doesnt help anyone now that DVC may have sold a certain glass or magnet 5 years ago.
you dont phase out the old products when theres a limited variety of the new coming in.
with the growing number of dvc'ers every day, I htink there is a lot of room there for quite a bit more for selection.

Heck, even if they just put up an annual or quarterly catalog of merch in .pdf format and then give usl an 800 number (even if it was the WDW Gen Merch number) to place an order...I'd be fine with that.
Costs would be next to nothing!

I agree. An online store would be great.
Merch can be bought at the gift shops at the DVC hotels.
We were just down in Sept stayed at OKW and bought some things, but wish we would have gotten 2 car window stickers. My car could use on too. A hooded sweatshirt would be nice.

We just got back yesterday from SSR. I searched for 10 days for SSR pins and nothing! :sad2: Every park, DTD, resorts...We looked it up online at DTD and they showed there was a new pin introduced just a month ago but it was nowhere to be found at WDW and no one knew where we could find it. I'm going to look online today.

SSR had DVC car magnets and stickers but no specific resort stickers.

My wishlist...
1. BCV specific coffee mug
2. BCV car sticker (the oval kind, love my DVC one:thumbsup2 )
3. BCV magnets for the fridge (not just BC ones)

I just bought a "DVC Member 2007" t-shirt off of ebay. It only cost me $11.00 total, but I saw that the tag had $39.00 on it. Whoa.....I mean its just a regular t-shirt. If all the stuff is that expensive, I don't know if it would be worth it.

I got a SSR pin about 10 days ago at the Pin trading shop in DTD.
Agree SSR had a poor selection of DVC stuff as Wigit12 says.

Totally agree! I've been a member for over 10 years and I have never seen a good selection at any of the DVC resorts in all those 10 years. Just because they offered a certain Christmas ornament 6 years ago for 4 months doesn't really mean they have a good selection of items. All I know is that there are over 115,000 families that are DVC members. I'm in sales and merchandising and there is no way that I wouldn't be taping into that through web merchandising. I would at least be sending out a catalog for the holidays.

I've been a member with DVC since 1992 and the merchandise selection has always been sad. A couple of times, though not recently, they'd offer merchandise within a mailing such as a watch or an ornament but that was it. Just a few items at a time. Each time I visit WDW I see all the different items themed to the different resorts and how it changes EVERY year and I keep coming back to the same DVC logo on one or two shirts at all the DVC resorts. They've made a little progress in their imagination the past couple of years with their merchandise, but it still seems like an afterthought compared to the non DVC resorts. Oh well, I guess I'm saving money with their lack of cool DVC stuff.

One would think.... with the addition of 8 DVCs....there would now be more of a demand for merchandise.
