Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

PR or the ER baby!! Since we had to cancel ToT, we signed up for a local 5K that we all ran last year. Last year was my 5K PR, 39:19:52, so I was excited to try it again. It was a Lightning McQueen run :car: Garmin time was 33:50...that's a 10:58 pace! :dancer: party: I was only hoping for a sub-12 and wasn't sure I'd pull that off! Splits were 10:23, 11:11 and 11:27...I have never run a sub-11 mile in my life!!!!! Can't wait to see the official results!

So I can't really complain about missing ToT. DD14's band performance went very well, though we're still waiting for them to get back to school. And I got a new 5K PR that I wasn't expecting! Pretty cool day!

Can't wait to hear the ToT and MCM race reports!

Good training everyone!

Ok looks like I am going to be the first to post my TOT 13k results. I am still up (left the party around 12:30AM - since my left arch is killing me - I broke that foot 4 years ago and it still bothers me especially in rainy weather. Let me just say that the weather was perfect - well I mean it could have been a little cooler but compared to what I am used to down south it was nice. The organization of the race and everything involved could have been a little better. The biggest thing was at 9:35PM (5 minutes from when we were already supposed to have been started for 5 minutes they announce that the race will now start at 9:50PM!!!! What!!! So finally 9:50PM rolls around and we are off. Mile 1 and 2 were kinda tough for me - my calves were killing me (I did run the whole mile 1) As the race went on my legs felt better but I still alternated between running a real fast walk. When I was past mile 5 these people ask "is this the 6.5K???" so of course everyone says "no it the 13" So these people that were supposed to be running the 6.5 already past what they should have been running. There was a flashing sign that said 6.5 with an arrow pointing straight, 13k and an arrow point to the side. Another example of their poor organization. The best part of the race was when we finally entered MGM. Although those 2 miles seemed to be the longest in my life (I thought 7 would never come and then it finally did) Then I realized "oh yeah after 8 mile marker its only .1 more to go so I kicked it into high gear.

My official times are here
http://results.active.com/pages/searchform.jsp#hot_links

1:36.12 chip time

I am proud of myself because first of all its the longest race I ever have done and the first one that I got a medal for also because based on training run/walks my official time is 14 minutes better than I expected!!!

Can't wait to hear lots of other reports. Saw lots of WISH shirts but only had the chance to talk to Howard (KeenerCam's DH) and his friend (sorry don't remember if I got the name) I guess its time for me to call it a night and get in bed.

Hi all,

Can't wait to hear all the race reports from MCM and TOT...Im sure you all kicked butt! I got in a good 6 mile training run with my husband this afternoon. It was a step back week and boy did it feel good in comparison to last week's 16 miler. I'm not even sore tonight! The lower temps are helping my times tremendously too. I think we averaged about a 9:40 pace.
Hope you all are enjoying the weekend!

Hey all... yesterday was a 12 miler that ended up being only 11.75 with a warm up. My legs feel good tho, so I am happy. I died at about mile 9 and really slowed down. I could tell I was coming off from being sick and not training as much in the last 2 weeks.

Mel - THAT IS AWESOME. WAY to go. We had a 5K and 1/2 marathon here on Saturday. I opted out because the race is really small and I figured I could run by myself for free. Anyhoo, I debated the 5K but it is a hilly course and I knew I wouldn't PR that one. You are doing so well!!!

I can't wait for some more TOT reports. Last night when DH and I were watching a movie I looked at my watch and it was 9:35 Florida time. I had to comment that the TOT was starting!!!

Mel - WooHoo for the PR!:cool1: Great job!

TNT's Party - Glad you had a good race. Congrats! :thumbsup2

Jen - WTG on your run! Hope your feeling better, too.

Well, my week of "leisure is over". After the 1/2 in SF last week, I took this week off. Monday was travel home day and I knew the next couple days would be spent catching up on work and "home" work, so I thought I'd give myself a good recovery week to take it easy. It felt good, too. I wasn't running around trying to fit training sessions in between Life. But tomorrow, it's back on the Goofy training mission.

Waiting to heat more ToT and MCM reports!

Good Sunday morning,

Everyone in my household is sick this morning. DD8 was sick Tuesday and missed a day of school, Ds10 was sick Friday and missed school and now DH is sick in bed, still sleeping, which is rare because he is always up at 5 or 6 a.m., even on weekends.

I spoke to all the MCMers this morning in DC, they were standing in the porta-potty lines (ah, good memories...):rotfl: getting ready for the marathon. I spoke to Jodi, Sara, Dave, Mike and Chester and they all sounded GREAT! :yay: I think they have PERFECT marathoning conditions in DC this morning!

Mel, wow, awesome 5K result!! Congrats!

Terri, how have you recovered from your half last weekend? Good luck with your Goofy training. Can't believe you are doing it again, you go girl!

Hi Jen, great job on your 12 miler and so glad your legs are feeling fine!:cheer2:

I am going to try and walk Disney marathon and I was able to get my first LW in. I walked 10.8 miles, I felt OK after, but walking sure makes different muscles ache.

Dona - Congrats on your 10 miler! :yay:

Mel - That is awesome about your 5K and your pace! :woohoo:

Tricia - Congrats on the ToT! :cheer2: Hopefully, they will get their act together for next year.

Jen - Wow, 12 miles?!? That seems so far to me right now. You rock! :rockband:

Well, I've been kinda in a funk these last couple of days after finding out about the two women joggers in my VERY immediate area being attacked. (I posted a thread about it.) I was so excited about signing up for my first half marathon, too. Boy, that excitement was short lived. :sad2:

I ordered a personal alarm and I'm gonna buy runner's mace when I go shopping for my new shoes Tuesday. I know my Mom doesn't want me running now.

Plus, I feel a tad unsupported. It is like nobody understands what I'm doing. Yesterday, my Mom asked me if a half marathon was five miles... I know she just didn't know. Really, my DH is the only one that gets it.

On a happier note, all my runs last week were under an 11:00 pace! This is a first for me! :woohoo:

Hello WISHers. Well, I made it to the ToT event (barely) completing my personal "Great Race" just to get there for the start. That's where the ToT (solely as a walking event) peaked for me. Next time I think I'll shoot to arrive earlier for an event than a couple hours before after sitting on a plane for 3 hours with a bad back.

Bad news first -- after only a mile the back started tightening and spasming, requiring me to make regular stops to stretch and rest the back.

The good news -- I started, I finished and I was not dead last among the 6.5Kers.

The best news -- the support, encouragement and friendship extented by all WISHers before, during and after the event. Plus, even better, I can now say I beat WWDave in a race. (Of course, it was only by a few minutes and he did travel twice as far, but I figure a win is a win ;).)

Thank you all WISHers (both at ToT and that I've yet to meet) for helping me through. Thank you Kim and your DH for the ride back to Pop. Thank you also Valintine's sister for keeping me sort of going the first couple of miles. Sorry to all I missed and for not recalling everyone's real names (there were a lot of you at the start and the music was a little loud).

I guess my distance event career has started a little ugly. Lots of work still to do, but I am "inspired" to get there and get healthy.

Colleen - I think I've recovered from my half pretty well :) Other than a little stiffness in my calves and ankles for a couple days, I felt great. Even during the race I thought I'd feel worse, but I felt good before, during and after. I'm very pleased with that!

nepatsfan - sorry to hear about the back issues. But you finished!:thumbsup2
My endurance career started ugly, too. I DNF'd in my first ever triathlon. Of course I should have been smrter than to make the 1st one a 1/2 Ironmam  But it was at WDW, so...
My race lastweekend has me feeling that I'm actually starting to make progress. Even though my times haven't improved much, I don't feel as wiped out after the races now. So I hope that keeps improving. The biggest problem for me is keeping the consistency in training. Trying to not let life interfere with my training. Easier said than done.

Congratulations and hang in there. Keep plugging away and you'll do fine.

Shan - Sorry to hear about the attacks in your 'hood. Depending on where I'm running, I sometimes cary pepper spray with me, just in case.
Try not to let the lack of support get to you. Been there, done that. Since I've stuck with it, I've actually had some of my nieces run events with me. Some of the others have started to come around, even though they still think I'm nuts - especially with doing the Goofy!

This comes from both Martha and me; "Good for you." We don't remember meeting you last night at the start, and it sounds like you didn't find the group, but congratulations are due to you. We both tip our hats.

Congratulations. You committed to the event, got there, and got across the finish line. It takes great courage to sign up and get out there. After the race Martha commented to me on the number of people who were out there doing instead of thinking about it. We are very pleased that you were in the doing group last night.

I suspect I ran past you in the last mile of the race, as I went by many folks who were coming in on the 6.5K. For a few groups I shouted encouragement to keep going, and I sincerely hope I shouted to you and your group.

Congratulations

Martha and Craig

Congrats to all the ToT racers!! Sounds like you all had a great race and a great time.

In preparation for the Phila Marathon (my first) I ran a 20-mile LR today in Philadelphia. All things considered it was a success. I finished 3:18:17 for a 9:54 pace which is well below what I wanted to run but I had some things working against me. The hills along this trail are always tough and I have some injuries to deal with.

The one thing I am learning as I run these LR's is that running a half-marathon is not half as easy/hard as a full marathon. It seems like I can run 13 miles with no problem but it gets much harder past 13 due to pain.

This time my feet and knees were not the big problem. Around mile 16 I felt a sharp pain in my groin area and got worried. I considered stopping but my car was 4 miles away and I decided to keep going but I slowed down a bit. I ran those last 4 miles at about a 11:00 pace because the pain was rough. However, I finished the run which made me fell a lot better about the marathon in 3 weeks. I just need to get through 6 more miles.

All things considered I feel pretty good now. My knees and feet are feeling better then they have in 2 weeks but now I have a groin problem. I'm walking around like Fred Sanford.

I did bring my digital camera with me today to snap some shots along the run. The weather was amazing and the trail was beautiful. For those interested in seeing Forbidden Drive in Philadelphia go to: http://picasaweb.google.com/LouRodriGIS/106_1028

Bill - 1) don't feel bad about not remembering names with faces. I can't either!! I know Cam (but I've met her like 3 times), I know Steve and Kristi (sp?) but that's because they have their pics in their signatures (and where those horrid jerseys even when running?!), and after that I start to get really confused. 2) It sounds like you have a very good reason for your race being difficult last night, mine wasn't a blast either, but that was because of my own stupidity. I stopped ( don't know if you remember or not) to make sure you were okay as I was making my way into MGM to make sure you were okay!! I am VERY happy to hear that you made it through to the finish, I was really worried and thought about you quite a bit last night and today!! 3) You have read our shirts, right?! You did freakin' awesome, and you should definately be proud of yourself!!

Steve and Kristi(a) - I don't know why I can't remember how to spell your name, it couldn't have anything to do with all of the Kristi's, Krista's, Christa's, and Christi's we have on this board could it?! Seriously, I just wanted to say Hi!! I was right behind you guys last night as the race was starting, and didn't get a chance to say hello then!! And to think you even brought your towels?! I hope you guys had a great race!!

Like I said in the TR thread. I wasn't thrilled with my race time. I was planing for more of an 8:40 mpm pace, and instead ended up with like a 9:30 mpm pace. I had a lot of trouble getting started in those first 2 maybe 4 miles. Combine that with the fact that I woke up at 4:30am and drove 3 hours to Orlando, then walked around Universal Studios until around 2pm, ran to grab my race packet, then crashed for 3 hours. I think I have a solid plan of what NOT to do the day before the full!! I hope everyone had an awesome weekend. I am still trying to see what the pics came out like, DH was taking pictures!!

**Craig** Thanks for the kind words. I did meet up with many WISHers at the start with WWDave, Robert and many others introducing me to many WISHers. I also met some others after the finish. Seems a few were apparently concerned about whether I would make it and cordially greeted me upon seeing that I did. I did not have a WISH shirt, but a few WISHers I had met at the start, such as Dana and Duane, did check on me and lend encouragement as they passed. Yes **Dana**, I do remember you stopping (and me telling you to keep running). Unfortunately, I've been dealing with the back problems more most of my life so I felt with the generous time limit I would do all I could do to make it to the finish. I did not want my problems to effect others' races (and I know from reading your posts that you pick 'em up and put 'em down quickly).

**Craig** You very well may have expressed encouragement to me. I was very inspired by the many racers (including numerous non-WISHers) who offered encouragement and good will as they passed me. There were also a few who had finished who walked a fair distance back from the finish line to inspire people by "flashing" their medals. I was very impressed by the actions of many runners who had no idea who I was, but because I was there, they treated me as one of them.

Hi all!

Congratulations to all who completed TOT and MCM this weekend! I have been reading the race reports but it got me too antsy so I will save the rest for tomorrow. I just can't read race reports on a rest day - they make me want to RUN!

Saturday was a 13 miler for me. Finished in 2:04:53. I was suffering from a post migraine hangover and figured I would only run as long as my head was bareable. But once I started running, I felt great. I am building my mileage so slow that I leave every run wishing I could have run further!:yay:

Well, I've been kinda in a funk these last couple of days after finding out about the two women joggers in my VERY immediate area being attacked. (I posted a thread about it.) I was so excited about signing up for my first half marathon, too. Boy, that excitement was short lived. :sad2:
That is scary about the runners. I don't think I would feel very safe on the trails by myself. I hope you have someone to run with, if not head over to Alpharetta and run with me!
Also, as for not having the support for your first race, thats what these boards are for!
I am also running the ING Georgia. I loved it last year! And when your family watches you finish, they are going to be so proud of you!

Happy Trails!

Hi everyone!!!

I know, I know... I post that I'm moving and then disappear for two weeks. Who knew how intense this whole moving 1400 miles thing would be!?! :confused3

Just a quick check-in before I'm off to run and errand or two....

First, a big THANK YOU to everyone who wished me well on the move. While I will miss some things about living here, I am certainly looking at this new start as an adventure. A new job, a new city, living two miles from the beach and 3 hours from WDW... that all sounds really nice. We pull out of here first thing Friday morning, which means that I'm already starting to freak out a bit. I feel like we have lots to accomplish yet, but honestly there is nothing we can do right now, except of course catch up on all the WISH Team threads I have been neglecting!! (At least I am making good use of my time, right?)

TOT Racers-- Congratulations to everyone!! I haven't seen too many reports yet, but I will assume you are all still recovering from you late-night partying! :thumbsup2

Mel-- :cheer2: Congrats on that PR!!!

Shan-- Be safe out there!! Pepper spray is not a bad idea at all, particularly if you are running in the early mornings or after dark. (Which is kind of inevitable with the days getting shorter now). And boy oh boy do I hear you on the lack support thing. That's why I love this place!

As for my own training, it has been very sporadic lately. I have been able to get a couple of back to back LRs in and about half of my weekday runs as well. My pacing has been all over the place, but now that it's cooled off a bit here, I'm picking up a lot of speed. Once I finally get moved I fell like I will be much better able to settle into a routine and get fully ready for Goofy. Due to being on the road Friday-Sunday, I will actually be running my back-to-back this week on Tuesday and Wednesday. I figure that driving for 9 hours a day with a Newfoundland in my back seat is enough of a workout for the weekend, or at least until Monday, when I can get back on my normal training schedule. I just have to keep reminding myself about 2006- which was hardly a perfect training year either... I did well until mid-October and then really fell off the wagon, but I somehow managed to finish that race... and somehow I will manage to finish this race too! (And if I'm crawling across that finish line, then there's always Goofy '09!

OK, I better get back to packing...
Happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

Good morning all!

I did have a wonderful time at the race, however, if asked, I will complain about the 20 minute hold at the start. When you've got 4000 people who have been training and are ready and psyched up for a race, do NOT hold the start.

That said, it was thoroughly enjoyable! I met so many WISHers I hadn't met before. I was asked no less than 3 times at the start of the race what my WISH t-shirt was for by those who are not WISH team mates (so I got to brag about our "club"). And although I did not do as well in this race, time-wise, as I did in the Minnie, I still had lots of fun!!

Bill: I really am so happy for you! You finished the race and should be proud of this first step. Don't think of it as being an ugly beginning--look at it as how much you have to look forward to!

WWDave, Vic: it was SO great meeting you both!

Stephanie and Scott: Um, thanks for talkin' me into riding the Rockin' Rollercoaster. NOT! When I got home yesterday, my daughter asked what Aerosmith song was playing. How would I know--I screamed the whole time and never heard any song! She mentioned how cool the sites of LA are on that ride. Really? I never saw them as I HAD MY EYES SHUT THE WHOLE TIME!! Why do I let myself get talked into these rides? Thanks for being there!!

Lynn, Erin, Howard: so fun to play cat and mouse with you during the race! Not fair that you were running and walking and I was running the whole time! You'd think I could run faster but nooooooooooo.

Calcio:  you are SMOKIN' fast! :love2:

Cam, Judy, Carrie, Lily, Rhonda: you are so dear to me!

Heather: missed you!

Can't wait to see more pictures! Have a great day everyone!!!

Hey guys- just posted a Race Report on Robert's thread about pictures. Probably not the right place to do it, but oh well...

To sum it up: traffic horrible, race great. Medal cool!

I took the baby in the stroller for a quick run on Sunday. It was about 68 degrees. Go ahead and laugh, Canadians- we think that's cold! Mr. Harry thought taking off his shoes and throwing them was hilarious. I pushed him for awhile just barefoot, but started to worry that someone would call the authorities! I stopped over and over to put them back on, but I finally just gave in and went home. Today's mission is to find a pair of boots that the monkey boy can't escape! Surely I can outwit an 18 month old...:rolleyes1

I'm extremely apprehensive about the 15 miles I have scheduled for Sunday! Might be reaching babysitter mileage now.;)

Hey- anyone have any good ideas for a 10th anniversary present? DH is looking for something for me (I gave him 2 kids- maybe I'll get him a card:rotfl: ). He was looking at watches (which I don't need), so I showed him a Garmin- the look he gave me was priceless. So, I'm thinking he doesn't want to get me a Garmin. :lmao: He says he wants something more "permanent." I'm not a jewelry person and I really don't want him to spend that much (why did I get married this close to Christmas?!) Any thoughts?

Posted this on the Tot thread but thought I'd re-post it here as well.

Jen, hmmmmm. I'm not a jewelry person either but I did get an anniversary band for our 10th. I say why not a garmin???!!! You know you'd get so much use out of it training for the goofy! How about a trip in May :rolleyes1 Like the first weekend...:rolleyes1 Nothing too special that weekend except maybe the Minnie!!!:dance3:

Our race report:

The boys and I got to MGM around 5 - 5:30. I made everyone take a nap that afternoon but it certainly wasn't long enough! They were cranky! We grabbed a boat to Epcot in an attempt to see how the lines were for Soarin' and/or TT, but holy cow was Epcot crowded! We didn't see crowds like that our entire weekend where most MK rides were 10 minute waits for us so we did this  and made our way back to MGM. Food and wine festival = crazy Epcot!

Leana said hi to us as we entered MGM around 6:00/6:30. She was heading to Fantasmic and we were going to grab a bite to eat. Easier said than done as we didn't have reservations and some quickie eateries were closing up shop! Luckily we found some chicken fingers over at Rosie's (I think:confused3 ) Then we headed toward the entrance, hung out and made our way toward the tents.

Anne recognized me from the Minnie and made introductions to the Wish group that was hanging out. Thank you, Anne! It was fun to see such a big group. We made our way over to baggage check, and then walked with the group toward the start. At this point we separated ourselves and sat down near the lights. The kids were tired and hated the wait so you can imagine how thrilled they were to hear that the start was delayed. I was annoyed at that point.:headache: I figured anyone who was racing would have known to show up pretty early!:headache: D'OH!

The start of the 13K was fun, then the gal said "okay 6.5 people, five minutes!" So we made our way to the middle/mid-back of the pack. Five minutes later the gal came on and said "5 mnutes to start time." :headache:  What??!! So we started exactly 10 minutes after the 13Kers. No fireworks for us.:upsidedow

We started off at a brisk walk but my 5 year old got too excited and was worried. "Don't you want to win, mom? Why are we walking?" so he took off. No, really. He took off! Full speed with the 3 of us laughing and trying to catch up. Walked for "one minute, mom" which was about 10-20 secs. then he would take off at top speed. The little stinker did that for 3 miles. I tried to corral him a bit because I'm sure he annoyed people along the way, but he was having a ball. We did manage to stay out of the runner's paths. At least, it seemed like it.:confused3 He couldn't believe that people were cheering for him as we entered MGM. It just made him run all the faster!
Then we hit about 3 miles and he tired out. We walked the rest. We finished in just over an hour. Collected our medals, hit the store to buy a TOT race shirt, then meltdown began because the youngest refused to do TOT and the oldest was mad, mad, mad! (re: tired) So we went back to the resort to sleep. We were walking out at midnight. Good thing, too. The boys were asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillow and we had to get up at 6:00 to catch our flight home. Yikes!

Notes: The times they were calling out were 10 minutes ahead of the 6.5K start. I only know this because my middle one, Joe, had his stop watch going to time us. I also forgot to grab my cell phone when we headed out to the race so I had no way to call DH or any Wish people.:headache: It would have killed some time during the long wait before the race when kids had meltdown no.1. A great moment for us during the 6.5K was when the 13K leader ran by. We saw him coming (the bike police were in front of him) and we all started cheering for him.:cheer2: Pretty cool. Also, I was glad the medal was the same! Well, kinda. I was really afraid that we stayed late for this race with cranky kids and we'd end up with some cheap plastic medal because we did the 6.5K. A nice 6.5 medal that was differently marked than the 13K one would have been great, too, but I was relieved to get a "not cheap" medal.:thumbsup2

Had a good time. Wish I could have spent more time with WISH people but it was hard with the cranky boys.

On a totally unrelated note I have an announcement. Leana and her mom know this already because we chatted at the Minnie and discovered her mom lives in Indonesia. WE ARE MOVING TO SINGAPORE! :yay: It was announced at DH's work Friday. He is being transferred there for around 3 years starting this January. The boys and I will follow this summer when the school year finishes. (We didn't want to pull them out of school mid-year) Anyway, I really want to do the Minnie again this year as it is the last Minnie and my last opportunity to do a Disney race for a few years. Anybody up for it? I'm trying to see how to swing it.

Great job to all the Wishers who did ToT:wizard: :dance3:

Hey guys - just a quickie as supposed to be working. Well done to all the Tot'ers, but I have to ask - who was the band in the end?

All good here, did my half in Auckland this weekend in a time of 2.20 - also discovered that I'm running an 11 minute mile in training not a 12 minute so that's good - and shurnk this weeks 15 miles from 3 hours to 2.45ish!! It was nice to see all my old running buddies again I really must sort out a club here.

So Vicki - welcome to my side of the world (well ish). I like Singapore a lot but it's very hot for running!!! I'll be there for two days in March next year tho you'll probably find me lying by the pool rather than pounding the pavements. Anyway, that's it for me to today, as I've got to force myself to work (am vvv demotivated this week and working from home means the duvet is calling). Helen

Hey all! We just made it back home a few hours ago:sad1: But at least I know we'll be back in the "world" and with our WISH buddies in a couple months.:dance3:

Kristi and Chad--Thanks for the ride and being such good buddies! We had a blast--and Chad I know that Scott is much appreciative for the text updates on the ballgame! Oh and that pic I took of Emma and Zach is great--I'll post it later!

Martha--Thanks aren't necessary--glad we could help!:rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: Hey, at least now you can say you rode it--and if it makes you feel any better I have no idea what songs were playing either!;)

Well, the TOT race was pretty good for both Scott and I. We were going to "take it easy" but ended up finishing well--around a 9:10 pace. Craig did slow down to chat for a bit, but then sped on by us--don't think he wanted to be out run by a couple of "kids!";) Okay, gotta go and try to get some unpacking done.

Tricia, you have every right to be proud!! :woohoo:

Jen, you did 11.75 after being sick??!! Are you CRAZY??!! Glad your legs feel great. Hope things are getting safer and saner for you! :grouphug:
Terri, you deserved that leisure time! Leanna wore her SF bling, so we got to see what those firemen awarded you...GORGEOUS! So glad to hear your foot is doing well!! :cool1:
Colleen, you are going to do so well at the full! Hang with Pat and she'll get you there for sure! I'll be waiting for you at mile 12 and the boardwalk!! ;)
Shan, like Cecilia said, that's what this thread is for! There are lots of WISHers who have little support on the home front. PLEASE don't let it get to you. YOU are doing AWESOME! Wow!! an under 11 minute pace!!
nepats73, we WISHers were SO VERY GLAD to see that you showed up. Ater hearing of all of the trouble people had getting there, we were getting worried. There are NO "ugly" starts! You got out there and STARTED..which is more than thousands of other people did! AND you FINISHED!! even after having back spasms! FANTASTIC, Bill!! :cheer2:
lourodrigis, what a great job! Beautiful pictures! Looking forward to your Philly report!:sunny:
Vicki, you are too kind. I was just the first to see you..all of us would recognize you from your siggie! Your boys were adorable! Your report was so cute about the youngest! Congratulations on Singapore!! :dance3:
Helen, so good to hear from you!! What a fantastic pace after all of your PF troubles!! So, was there bling at the end?? :upsidedow
Scott and Stephanie, Congratulations!:rainbow:
Martha and Craig, what a great team you two are! Craig, so proud of you that you were able to get such a good time under such conditions. Martha, despite what you may think..you did a great race in maybe not so great conditions!! :jumping1:

Hi WISH Team! It was such a fun way to end our vaca with the ToT event. I am back in for the stretch here. January is closer than I have to get everything in training-wise. Sadly I am going to be quite undertrained, but I'm determined to try for it.

NEPats Bill, I am so pleased to have met you. Your story is an inspiration. I knew that you were going to be cutting it close to get to the event and after hearing that the traffic was stressed, I worried that you would not make it after all you have gone through to get there. Glad that you did and I'm sorry about that back.

It was fun to see the WISH Team gather.

Mel, congrats on the event. You are moving quickly these days.

Anne, I love it when you are at the events I attend. You are so fun making sure we all get to meet each other. You amaze me with the recognition powers you have. I meet and then promptly forget the name. You rattle off the whole team with no problem!

DH really enjoyed his first ever event. He even marveled that he was not sore the next day as he expected.

Good morning team!!!!

ToT event was great, a few issues with traffic, start time etc, but nothing that riuned this event it was alot of fun.

Great seeing all friends and putting faces to the new ones.

Patsbill: Any finish is a good finish. My goal is always to finish, my time is secondary. How is your back feeling now?? Was hoping to run into you Sunday morning at breaky, we just went to the POP restaurant but it was nuts in there.

I checked the official times and DH and I had the same clock and chip times...to the second...I think that is funny. He is usually a runner but walked this event with me and we had a great time. We walked the entire race with Robert and Linda, we had a blast, goldcupmom walked with us a bit also, it was nice to chat with you. Dave and Erica came barrelling up on us at some point can't remember which mile marker but it was great having them in our little group. Dave I can see why you do so well in your race walking events.....you and Erica rock!!!!!:grouphug:

Yikes, gotta go get ready for work, have a great day everyone!!!!

Hello Stephanie

You and Scott certainly didn't look like you were taking it easy in the World of Sports Complex. It's not surprising you both had excellent results. Congratulations.

Thanks for escorting us through the RnR. Martha had committed earlier to doing it, and there may have been a glass or two of Chianti Classico involved, but your help was probably the deciding factor. I suspect this was a one time adventure for her.

Good luck with the after-trip household chores. Hopefully we'll see you both in January.

Good luck today!!

Good morning team! I am so happy to hear that everyone had a good time at the ToT. I was sorry I had to miss it, and I am having major medal envy right now. I am back in training mode for the Goofy, although I may have to pick one event (the 1/2) or the other (the full) instead of both depending on how my training progresses. I had the best of intentions this year, but WTO and I just have not made the time to train. Plus, I have gained 15 pounds since January, and the extra weight is really slowing me down. Grr. I am just taking it one day at a time and will see where I am in December. My goal is to lose 20 pounds by January, but I would be happy to see any loss at this point. :rolleyes1

Kevin- Good luck in your move! You will really enjoy the winter months this year.

NEPatsBill- Great job at ToT! You are an inspiration to us all.

Tinks- There are quite a few of us who are going to do the Minnie again in 2008. Another chance for a WISH Team party!

Helen- Congrats on the 1/2! I can't wait to see you again in January. We missed you terribly at last year's race.

Sorry to all that I missed. I better get to work. :surfweb:

Glad to hear that everyone had a great time at ToT and MCM!! It sounded like so much fun! I wish I could have seen you guys!

I did of course talk about you this weekend (My WISH friends always come up during races!)

We did the Raid the Rock Adventure rAce this weekend. It was in little rock, Ar (actually more maumelle and NLR) Anyway, we started at 5:00 am near palarm creek w/ some orienteering on private land (basically that big ridge that you see at the morgan maumelle exit for those who are local. We left out on bikes to get to the 2 big nav sections. It was really dark, so we could not assess the condition of the farm roads, but they were REALLY muddy. They were so muddy that the mud would actually build up enough to keep the bike from pedaling. When we would get off to walk the bikes or clean them, the mud would cake to the bottom of our shoes. I think it literally built me up about 4 inches. We spend the next 2 hours or so, through sunrise bushwacking to controls or checkpoints in the woods. After we got back, we transitioned to a short run to the canoe put in. We paddled up a creek to the Ark. river and around some islands for somemore of the checkpoints. Next we paddled up a small slough w/ several portages. The water was often stagnant and green slime covered the surface. I have to admit that I didn't relish drinking out of my camelbak hose as the end had been in the bottom of the canoe. It smelled alot like sulfer (i'm hoping that is actually what it was as we were in it waist deep several times) After several portages, we were close to the end of the paddle and the vegitation in hte slough became so thick that we actually were not paddleing but rather pushing the canoe w/ the paddles through the thick plants. The boat kept makeing a "shhhh" sound as it went over the plants. It was really neat. After teh paddle takeout, we had a short run to the next transition area where we were to start the mt. biking section. We we got into the ta, we realized that we had 3 flat tires!! Probably from mud and thornes from earlier!!!! The trans. took a little longer than usual due to the flats and the mud still built up on the bikes. finally, we got out on the bikes and headed off into maumelle for a few checkpoints. We biked several miles of double track to a high creek we had to carry our bikes across. (yes, phil carried my bike AGAIN and they got a picture of it AGAIN!!!) After that, we passed the 3rd place team and gained a lead over them. Then we got another FLAT and they passed us while we were changing it!! Anyway, from there, we biked across to the Big Dam Bridge and back to the base of Ft. Roots VA, were we did a short and steep hike to the top. After hooking on to a safety line to descend to the top of the bluff, we did a rappel of a 240 cliff and then biked to the finish! We came in 4th place and qualified for the national championship race (which unfortunatley is Friday, so we can't really rearrange our schedules to go!) I think by the end, we smelled like onions (from the nasty muddy bike section on farm roads) and like sulfur and we were covered w/ the green slime from the slough crossings. I think I might be optimistically describing our odor!!

On the last bikiing section along the river trails, I started talking to phil and our other teammate about you guys (of course!!) :thumbsup2 I was telling them about where you all were this weekend!

Sorry for the long post, but there it is anyway!

Hello everyone.

I'm new here but not new to the Disboards! Used to run a little and then had another baby but I'm back in the saddle again!

We already had our next WDW trip planned for May 1, 2008 and then I got inspired to run the Minnie 15K so I have 6 months to train. I think I can do it, I just need to make a firm committment. I ran a great (for me) 5K and was really feeling good about running, but that was a couple of years ago. I know I have a tendency to get all gung ho and then burn out because I overdo it, so I am trying to actually follow a schedule this time instead of running as far as I can as often as I can and then giving up. KWIM?

But enough about me... CONGRATS to all those who did the ToT! And kudos to all those planning on the half and full marathons. My hat is off to all of you.

Ran 2.5 miles this morning with a friend. He and I are going to be running buddies on Tuesday mornings so I have at least one workout a week that I will have company.

Bill: sooooooo, what is your prognosis for an undefeated season for the Patriots?

Heather: good to see you on the boards! And boo to you!!

MelRhoades: my! Your event sounds quite amazing!

Have a great day everyone!

Well, Scott and I had a great time at the ToT this past weekend. It was great to get to see old friends and make some new ones. However, I'm not sure if Martha will talk to us again after the RnR!:rotfl:

Kristi and Chad came by our villa to drop off Zach (such a cutie!) and to pick us up. Never did we imagine that by leaving around 7:45 that the traffic was going to be so bad--we were coming from SSR. But, with my keen sense of direction, Kristi's Boston driving skills ;), and some great parking karma, we made it to the race start with time to spare.

It was great to walk to the start area and see so much lime green. After standing around for what seemed like, oh, shall we say 20 minutes longer than necessary ;) , we were off. Scott and I bopped and weaved our way through the traffic for at least the first mile--mostly that was our fault. We had planned on "just having fun" and lined up toward the back of the pack. Once we got going that competitive streak reared it's ugly head and we couldn't hold ourselves back! The turnaround at mile 1 was WAY too sharp for that many people. Once we got to the WWoS we had settled down into a nice race pace. We met up with Craig and chatted for a bit, until blazed through a water stop and we never saw him again--at least until the finish.

I commented to Scott that once we left the WWoS and the crazy CMs that it was really quiet--I felt like I had to whisper on the race course. It would be nice to have a little more entertainment, besides the derranged CMs asking me if I wanted tequila!

Coming back into MGM was fun. I didn't realize that there were that many back roads in the park. Craig, Martha, and I had the same sentiments after the race that we never thought that there would be 2 miles of running once in the park. It was really cool. And big kudos to Carrie's family for being such a great scream team! Once we finished 1:13:48; we got our snacks and pics, then headed to Sunset Blvd to cheer on more WISHers! Once again met up with Craig, and spent some time recovering with him and Martha. Once we cheered on what we guessed was the last batch of WISHers (sorry if we missed you) we headed back to RnR. THis was Martha's fave part!

After the ride, it was time to head back. It was bittersweet saying goodbye to our teammates. At least we know we'll see most everyone in January. I hope the breakfast at BW was fun--we never would've made it out of bed in time!

All in all, it was a good race. We had fun, and got some good bling! Don't think we'll be back next year--but maybe Race for the Taste, since we don't have that medal yet! I've got pics that I'll post next!

Sara - Welcome!

Mel - WOO HOO for your PR!

Bill - so glad to meet you in person at ToT. I was glad to hear you finished, we were looking for you at the end.

I am still sitting here in my pjs since we didn't get home until midnight last night. I just wanted to drop in and mention a few things:

- Rhonda, thank you so much for the advil!
- Anne, loved your little treats & Zack loved playing with you at dinner!
- All those at LTT - sorry we were so late! (darn packet pick-up / screw up!)
- Stephanie & Scott, thank you so much for offering up Allison to watch Zack. He had alot of fun playing with Emma & Matthew.

I wasn't so thrilled with this race, but loved being able to meet up with everyone again. We were going to try to hit the bakery Sunday morning....but woke up at 9:09am - oops! I was hoping to bump into some of you in the parks Sunday & Monday, but I didn't spot anyone.

I really should go get a shower or unpack or something before I pick Zack up at school. I also have to plan my training for the Half in January. I am determined to be faster & thinner by then!

Hi all:

Back at work and planning for January (just don't tell the boss I'm here right now). I have been looking over my training plans and have come up with a few new goals pre-Donald: (1) have Big Vic, Dana, the Original Bill (wfloyd) and all other Florida WISHers do a better job on reducing the humidity before January. The temps weren't too bad for the ToT race and there was an occassional breeze, but it seemed quite humid, especially for this New Englander who is carrying lots of extra insulation and didn't give himself a chance to acclimate to the weather conditions. (2) Try to healthily reduce my personal insulation by 40 lbs or more by the half. (I don't think this is too unrealistic given my starting point). (3) Try to work on the core exercises for the back/abdomin at least 4-5 times a week (the twice a week ain't getting it done). (4) Just keep swimming, just keep swimming (I mean walking).

The back is OK, relatively speaking. I did go to AK Sunday for a Safari ride, couple trips on EE and saw the new Nemo show. I then went to MK late afternoon for some rides and MNSSHP. I did the rides I wanted, saw the outstanding parade twice (from Main Street and Frontierland), saw Hallowishes (great display) and even ended up with 2 full treat bags (I didn't start until late and I think the people giving out candy where trying to unload. One asked if I had kids and when I said yes, grabbed an empty bag and filled it for me to take home.) Yesterday I caught a few rides at EPCOT (M:S, Soarin' and TT) before heading home. (All of the above was done with stops to rest the back, which would loosen as soon as I sat down and stretched it some. I figured it was important to get in some "training" as well in the parks I will see again in January. ;))

As I was thinking about the race, I realized that was the longest I have ever walked/run (although I did make stops) since my college sports days. Now I need to keep it going and, once again, thanks to all of you.

One thing of interest I forgot to mention. While in MGM near the Muppets fountain (I stopped there for a couple of pictures), I saw a women 6.5Ker sitting on a bench. I sat with her for several minutes trying to encourage her to finish as we were more than half way through and had plenty of time (she was saying she didn't know if she would make it but at least she started). She seemed to get a litter more excited as we spoke and we walked together into LMA, where I told her I wanted to get a couple of pictures. She dumped me there ;), and I never saw her again. I hope she finished.

Martha As to the Pats, one game at a time. The Colts are next and have beaten the Pats the last 3 times they have played. They are looking pretty good though.

Finally, I apologize for the long post but also wanted to add: GO SOX

sara74, Welcome to you! Good job on getting the 2.5 in today. You will be doing great by Minnie for sure!

Martha, yes, I do think you need to face that fear as you return to get back on the ToT ride.

WWDave, I want to thank you for the demonstration and coaching you gave to me on racewalking technique. I think I may find a use for that and hope to begin transferring to that style for at least some of the upcoming event. Maybe I'll strengthen my shin area enough to tolerate that.

Stephanie, great pics and costumes.

MelR, all I can say is wow! Your adventure racing amazes me each report I read.

Heather, I think you've got a base on which to build. Don't give up hope on the Goofy. Walk it. You may really find you can do it. Good luck with gettin in those steps. That is most important right now for sure.

PatsBill, What a great thing to do for the woman you coached back into the event. That is a noble thing. I am sure she appreciated your effort when she got to her bling. You have a good outline for the upcoming weeks. Good luck with that back.

I set out today to run 6 miles and only made it 4.5 before my PF reared its ugly head. I thought the rest over the weekend of ToT would do it some good but....not so much. :sad2: My Garmin said my pace was 10:12 which is really disappointing too. I guess I am hoping for snow soon so I can start race skiing and give my PF a break for the winter so I can come out strong in the spring. Good job today everyone. Keep on working!!!! :yay:

Hi all,
I'm new to the sight and plan to run my firt half at Disney in Jan. There are very few competitive runs through Marathon Weekend as the weather gets colder. I did a local 5K this past Sunday and posted a 27:26. Now running 6 miles each Monday in the neighborhood. I hope to be doing 10 before the race. I did do the Army 10 miler in 1:47. Hoping Orlando is not as hot as Arlington was on that day.

Happy Halloween!

I hate halloween, its interfering with my runs today. All my running buddies want to go to school parties or take their kids trick or treating. Where are their priorities??!! JK. Anyway, BOTH my runs were canceled today! :scared1:
However, its just not safe to run alone here. So, I am going to head to the dreadmills at the gym today and then do my usual mid-week long run tomorrow. I really respect those of you that can run on a treadmill for more than 5 miles! I can't even think about it.

No rest for me. My entire family can tell when its a run day. I am totally charged up and ready to go. Amazing actually, considering that I usually take 3 cups of coffee to function nominally.

Have a great day!

Good Morning WISH teammates :surfweb:

I posted this on the Marine Corps Marathon thread, but I wanted to reconnect with the rest of my teammates too.

OK, let me post my official weekend report now that I have a few more pictures downloaded. My Dad and I met Sara and her family in the hotel lobby Saturday morning and took the Metro out to the Expo. We picked up our numbers, and then Sara and I separated. Dad and I strolled around the Expo checking out all of the booths.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f135/dparfitt1/Marine%20Corps%20Marathon/Washington%20DC/DSC01332.jpg

We were looking at one booth that had "unofficial" MCM t-shirts and such. They had some shirts that said "Marathon Wife", "Marathon Dad", etc. We looked for a little bit, and then wandered on. I then feel someone tap my shoulder. It's the salesman from the t-shirt booth, and he says "I want you to have this for your Pop". He gave me (well my Dad really) one of the Marathon Dad t-shirts - no charge. I thought that was really cool. Dad was touched, and decided to go back to the booth to buy the coffee mugs we were looking at.

After the Expo, Dad and I drove out to the Air and Space Museum/Hangar by Dulles Airport. Dad worked as an engineer for the space program when I was born in the late '60's, and it was the highlight of his career. He was in heaven at this museum. He was just walking around with his mouth open, going "wow", and taking pictures of everything. We had a great time at the museum.

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f135/dparfitt1/Marine%20Corps%20Marathon/Washington%20DC/DSC01348.jpg

I sat down on some chairs, and put my feet up to try to save my legs for the marathon on Sunday. We left to go have an early dinner at Lonestar Steakhouse. On the drive back, we were going by the Iwo Jima memorial so we decided to stop and check it out. I told Dad I wanted to show him where we finished so he could get a sense of the area. We found a parking space, parked, and got out and looked around. I figured if we wanted to see the memorial we should do it now - because there's no way we could get near it when the marathon was going on. [Note - that was an incredibly good decision.] Dad had never seen the memorial, and we had a great time walking around. The Netherlands Carillion even started chiming (it was 6:00pm), and it was playing the tunes of all the armed service branches.

After walking around the Iwo Jima memorial, we went back to the hotel and I got all my stuff ready for the marathon the next day.

Marathon Morning- Up early, get all my gear on, eat an energy bar and we meet Sara and Jodi in the hotel lobby.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f135/dparfitt1/Marine%20Corps%20Marathon/Washington%20DC/DSC01362.jpg
We make our way to the Metro and meet Chester and Tracy at the entrance.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f135/dparfitt1/Marine%20Corps%20Marathon/Washington%20DC/DSC01363.jpg
We get off the Metro, and Mike and Kathy find us as we're getting off.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f135/dparfitt1/Marine%20Corps%20Marathon/Washington%20DC/DSC01364.jpg
So we have the whole crew together at the Pentagon for Port-a-John city where Jodi works her mojo picking the right porta potty line.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f135/dparfitt1/Marine%20Corps%20Marathon/Washington%20DC/DSC01365.jpg

Colleen calls to WISH us well, and we're about ready to line up for the race. We work our way to the start, and I ask to be on the left hand side of the road because that's where I told my Dad I'd be. We have an airplane flyover and a goose flyover and we're ready to go. We cross the starting line in only 5 minutes which I thought was really good for all those people.

The 5 of us all start together, and as we run the first mile, we pass under the Arlington Memorial Bridge and see Tracy in her WISH shirt sitting off to the right up on the bridge. I never see my Dad, but it turns out he was on the bridge too on the other side. I was distracted by Tracy's shirt.

We wind our way through Rosslyn, and we start to break up a little bit. Mike and Sara move up ahead, Jodi and I are in the middle, and Chester is right behind us. We cross the Key Bridge, go through Georgetown, and around the Georgetown Reservoir. We catch up to Sara around mile 6, I try to chat with her some, worry I'm about to receive a forearm, and decide to leave her alone.

We turn around to head back towards downtown and the monuments. At mile 11 I see my Dad just past the Lincoln Memorial. I wouldn't have seen him but Sara's husband Mike yelled my name. I looked over to see Mike, and he pointed down. There was my Dad. I ran back to give Dad a hug.

Jodi and I are running together. I point out the sites like the famous statue of the guy with the hat. We're keeping up with the 4:15 pace group, but I'm starting to get tired. I normally take walk breaks during my LRs, and I have not taken a walk break yet. I'm going to pay for this later. We see Tracy near the Smithsonian and wave and say hello. We turn and pass the Jefferson Memorial around mile 15, and make a long loop around a golf course on an island in the Potomac River. This is where the course was the toughest for me. My legs are starting to ache, and I'm getting a little crabby. I also could use a water stop. We pass a first aid station at mile 16, and they're passing out tylenol. Cool, I'll take one of those. I tell Jodi that I'm going to walk at the next water stop. We finally get to it around mile 17. I fill my water bottle up, WISH Jodi well, and get my iPOD out.

I start listening to the DISUnplugged Podcast, and it's a good way to kill an hour and a half. My pace really drops off now as I take more walk breaks. I'm probably averaging closer to 11:00 min miles compared to the 9:30 mpm I was averaging. The 4:15 pace group is long gone now, but I'm still on pace to meet my goal of finishing in 4:30. We cross over the Potomac at mile 20 into Virginia, and we reach Crystal City. This is a double back section so I keep my eyes out for Jodi. This helps me through this part wanting to give Jodi a final cheer. We see each other near the turn around point around mile 22 - home stretch now. Mile 23-24 was a long boring stretch around the Pentagon. Not too much interesting here at all, and I'm glad I have the DIS podcast to listen to.

Now we're back on the road we started on, and we're picking up a lot more spectators. The podcast is over so I put my iPOD away. At mile 25 we run past the turn up to the Iwo Jima Memorial where the finish line is. Oooh, that's cruel. The finish line is so close, but we keep on going. How far do we have to go before we turn around? We reach the turn around point, and get a little bit of a downhill. Yahoo! I'm going to be close to 4:30, and if I push it I can beat Oprah's time of 4:29. I make the turn up to the Iwo Jima Memorial and the finish line. My Dad's standing right there at the turn at the start of the hill. I pass him, give him a thumbs up, and continue on to the finish line. I gotta push it to beat Oprah's time. I turn on whatever jets I have left. There's the finish line, I cross, stop my Garmin, and I'm at 4:28:50! Whoo hoo! I did it. I've also set a new PR by 35 minutes. I'm feeling good. I go up to the Iwo Jima Memorial, and get my finisher pictures taken.

Now comes the time to wait in line. I wait to get through the finish line area, get my water, banana, and some Powerade. Meet my Dad at the "W" banner, and find Mike, Kathy, Chester, and Tracy. We snap some pictures, and go our separate ways.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f135/dparfitt1/Marine%20Corps%20Marathon/Washington%20DC/DSC01366.jpg

Dad and I head back to the hotel. By the time we catch the Metro the lines are gone. I think they put some more trains on duty, because our train was totally empty when everyone boarded at Rosslyn. We slept well, and got up to go to the airport Monday morning.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f135/dparfitt1/Marine%20Corps%20Marathon/Washington%20DC/DSC01367.jpg

It was a great race, a great weekend, and I feel like I made some new friends. I'm definitely feeling a bit of the post-marathon letdown and blues, but all and all it was a fantastic weekend.

Stephanie: great pictures!

Epcotdude: Welcome!

NEPatsfan Bill: about the 40 pounds--if you haven't already been to see your doctor to talk about losing weight, start there. The reason I say this is that a year ago I needed to lose some weight so I started with my doc who gave me a diet that I was able to stick to and within a month had lost over 20 pounds. Sometimes the docs do have the answers (not always, but it's a start).

Glad to see so many people back from the weekend. I'm very much enjoying the pictures!

Have a great day everyone!

Fabulous pics, Dave!!!

I won't be training today as there are too many Halloween festivities going on.
But I did start marking my training plan in my log for the WDW Half - does that count?

I guess my xt for today was starting to search the internet for a new job. :sad2: This place just gets worse & worse. I just wish I knew what I wanted to be when I grow up. ;)

So many to catch up wiht, but htis is my first day back and I really need to get going.

Cecilia - I did pick up my runner's mace yesterday at Big Peach Running Co. Are you doing the half or full for the ING Georgia? Were you planning on joining any training groups for it?

Yesterday DH and I got fitted for new running shoes. This was the first time I've done this. They had me stand on some computer pad that showed my foot prints on a computer screen, then had me run on a treadmill while they videotaped it. I have neutral feet I was told, left foot pronates very slightly. After running around in the parking lot in a few different shoes I ended up going with a pair of Mizunos. We'll see how they go tomorrow!

Glad everyone is starting to get back from WDW and ToT. I'm kinda sorry to read the mixed reviews. DH and I were hoping to do next year's...

Happy Halloween to all of you!

Happy Halloween!

I managed to get in 8 miles today in 1:12:10 for a 9:00 pace. Not bad considering I am still a bit sore from the 20-mile LR this past weekend. I am going to start tapering off as I prepare for the Philly marathon. Hopefully I'll get rid of the little aches and pains and find a way to come up with the last 6 miles.

Sounds like everyone is back and enjoyed ToT. The medals look great. Maybe next year I'll try to find a way to run the 13K.

Well, it's time to get ready for trick or treating with the kids!

Kristi - Sorry your job isn't much fun right now. Hope your search goes well and something fruitful comes from it.

Dave - Glad you had a good time and run at MCM. Your time was great. :thumbsup2

Cam - Just to give you fair warning, if you are wanting to hold Timmy in January you will need to start doing arm excercises. He is definately getting heavy for extended periods of time. :lmao:

MSDave - LOVE your race report and all the pix. It's so great that your dad could share the weekend with you.

EpcotDude/Bob - :welcome:

GaJen - Hope you don't mind - I've copied your calendar idea and have scheduled all my runs for the month around everything else I have to do, then I'm going back at the end of the day and highlighting them in green if they actually happen. I started Monday and I have 2 green days this week!

I'm hard at work trying to get back in shape so I can do the Victory Junction Half in December with Kathy, Lynne, Pat, Wendy, Beth, Jeanne, and Renee. Ran 3 miles Monday and again today, planning on 8 this weekend (I hope!). Strange thing is that the right ankle is sore after I run, and the left one was broken? The left one still hurts a little for the first couple of miles, then warms up and feels okay.

I'm volunteering Sunday at the City of Oaks marathon - I have the option to defer my entry to next year, but the volunteer tshirt is so horrid that I'm tempted to go ahead and pick up my packet just to get the race shirt. Is it uncool to have the shirt if I don't actually run the marathon?

Dave, Fantastic pics. I love them. It makes me want to try that event. I probably am not fast enough but it looks like something I would really enjoy. I know DH would enjoy that museum and I would enjoy weaving about the monuments. Win-win!

Jackie, WISHing that you get those steps in for the Junction event.

Shan, Yay! for new shoes. Yeah, don't let those reviews get you down. There are always some things that need tweeking.

Total drive by with a quick question...

Why are the Donald, Mickey, and Goofy images missing from our sigs? Earlier today I saw mine had a broken X in a box, now it's gone altogether. :confused3

(Sorry if this is old news and I'm woefully behind the times. Complete LTO for the past few weeks....DH is in China, DS broke his ankle, DD's biopsy is inconclusive so we wait some more, and no time for me to train.)

I'm working the water/Gu stop at mile 22. I'm really bummed about the assignment - almost everyone I know is running the half, and I get a stop near the end of the full! I was hoping to see people at the start, but they want us to meet at 7:00 to get to our stop on time, so it's not looking very promising... I'm planning on wearing my WISH visor anyway, just in case.

Hello all! I won't have time to respond to much, but the race reports and pics I've seen from the weekend are great!!

Unfortunately, my weekend and week have been fulled unexpectedly will the death of a family member. My Jordan's grandma was taken off of her life support this last Sunday. I had never been in the room for a death before, so I'm taking this harder than I thought I would. She and I were pretty close as I don't have any older people left on my side of the family. I love older people and would visit her often to hear her stories and whatnot. My intentions were to be there for Jordan and his mother, but I have found comfort in the process as well. The showing was last night and now she is being transported to Georgia and will be laid to rest next to her late husband. The service will be tomorrow morning and we leave today to drive down.

I'll get back on track with my posts next week...fortunately I have been able to get my running in. Hope all is well with everyone and congrats to all of the race finishers from the weekend!

Kelly: I'm having the same problem with my clippies the last few days....sometimes they're there, but most often they're not. I noticed the same thing was happening to everyone so it's probably something out of our control.

Jackie: bummer about being at Mile 22. I have to get a decent copy of the map - the one online is so hard to read. If 22 isn't somewhere all the way into Umstead Park, maybe we'll come visit anyway. Take care of that foot.

Hey everyone, well now with the craziness of ToT weekend over time to get back to regular posting.

First off: Eva I am so sorry to hear about your loss:hug:

Back to regular training, however, but targetting weightloss a bit more. I have gainned 16 pds since the Minnie....just not making good choices, BBQ and mudslides....:scared1: I have set a weights program out for myself. 2 or 3 days of upper...starting with 2 days working up to 3. Also 1 to 2 days of leg work. I am also starting to add some running to my program, I had so much fun doing ToT with DH, and he wants to do all events with me now at my pace so I think it is fair that I try and add some jogging. We will see how it goes.

OK enough of my babbling....back to work.

:thumbsup2 :woohoo: 3 miles with no PF pain :cool1: Back to my 9 mpm pace, finally. Not holding my breath that it is gone but I guess I have to work on technique and shortening up the runs for now. Kim, when I started adding in jogging, I did a mile for mile walk/run which worked well to keep my pace where I wanted it. My DH and DF did this during the ToT and were only 12 minutes behind my partner and I (slow run or slog as my MIL calls it) so you may want to consider that technique. Keep training everyone!!!!!!

Hi everyone!!!! We just back from WDW last night. I hate be being back, but I'm very glad to say that we are going again in 71 days! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: It was so awesome seeing everyone at the race Saturday night, I wish we would have had more time to hang out, but my parents were there with us, so Stephen and I had to balance being with them and being with everyone else. Just Stephen and I are going down for the marathon, so we'll be able to be around more and get to visit with everyone. But I'm glad for the time we had! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

By the way, is anyone else sick? I picked up something in WDW, not sure if it's virus or the rainy weather, but I have a terrible head cold, slight sore throat and my ear is starting to hurt. Flying last night was fun. :sad2:

Dana--I wish we would have known you were standing right behind us!!! We got quite a few comments on our costumes, I'll have to post pics once I get them up loaded.

Carrie and Stephanie--We should have gone to MNSSHP with you guys, we got rained out of ours! It POURED the entire night, not just sprinkled, but POURED! It was bad. But we did find out that Capt. Jack is a Steelers fan, we of course wore our jerseys (yes, that 3 times  ) and when Jack saw Stephen's Polamalu jersey he held up a 4 and a 3, gave us the thumbs up and then put his finger to his lips like shhhh! Stephanie, be sure to tell DH that! ;)

ToT People--Has anyone e-mailed Disney yet? I think I'm going to have to e-mail them about the race. It was very disappointing and frustrating and chaotic. I doubt we will be back.

MCM Finishers-- CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Eva--So sorry for your loss.

Colleen--Sent you a PM. Continued :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your knee!!!!

I have a ton of work piled up on my desk and zero motivation, but I may have to push through and do the work anyway. :) Talk to all later!!!

Hey everyone!

Did 4 on Tuesday, 7 yesterday, supposed to do 4 today. I am starting to freak out about 15 on Sunday- I've done 13 before, but 15 seems so long. I'm going to need to bring lunch and a diet coke! What's that going to take me, 3+ hours? (I am considering getting a portable DVD player to strap onto Harry's stroller- we've still got enough LRs in the future that it might be practical. Babysitters here are $10/hr per child, so that 3 hour run would cost me $60.00 if DH isn't able to watch them- from that perspective, a DVD player is a bargain! )

Eva- I'm so sorry.

Melissa- anytime anyone tells me I'm crazy for all this running, I need to bring out that race report! The mud sounded horrible, but then the race involved rappelling too? WOW! :scared1:

Shan- I'm totally jealous of your fitting. That sounds cool. I like my shoes, but sometimes I wonder if the perfect pair isn't out there waiting for me...

Jackie- Glad I'm not the only green ink geek! (I also keep my calendar and all my info in a green expandable folder, but it's a bit over the top. I had to get it because I kept losing my green pen).

Vicki- Singapore?! Wow. That will be interesting. My first thought was to warn you that based on my extensive food network/travel channel viewing, you need to really know what you are eating, but then I'm not an adventurous eater! ;)

Carrie- I saw Scott's parents! Emma got all excited about the WISHers who were cheering! So nice of them.

Cam- somewhere you mentioned "You Can't Stop the Beat" from Hairspray. I must have listened to it at least once per mile yesterday. Good idea!

Dave- I loved your pictures/race report!

OK, here's two indications that I am slowly but surely becoming a runner: first, I was having a fit last night trick-or-treating because I just knew I was going to injure myself in the dark (I survived!); second, for the first time in years, I got a flu shot! I'm never motivated enough to get a flu shot, but when I counted how many miles I've run (and how many I have to go), I decided I'd deal with the whole shot thing...:scared: Now I can act all pious around DH until he breaks down and gets one!

Good morning everyone, still figuring out who everyone is so forgive me for not knowing you all yet.

Eva - My condolences for your family.

Ran this morning and did a short hill workout on the TM. I have 26 weeks to get ready for the Minnie, and have never run that far so I printed programs from running planet to follow to build up my distance without overdoing it. If I were to follow them exactly in order, then I would have enough time to complete their 5K, then 10K then half marathon plans and end the week we leave for WDW. The half is farther than I would need to run for the Minnie, but I could always level off at the 10K for a while and then add more mileage. Make sense?

So anyway, ran 2.5 this morning in a hill workout in 30:12. I felt good and was happy that I have a goal to work toward.

Sabrina - Welcome. You will get lots of information from all the folks here (some of it may even be useful) ;) .

SWDave - Good job on getting back to it. I'm hitting the pavement this evening while DDs are at dance. I ended up putting double the distance in last night Trick or Treating. DD4 lost part of a grandma hand-made costume so I went and retraced our entire route looking for it (my legs were starting to protest at that point). Never found it but then Kathy went out and found it right away 3 houses up :headache: .

Take care everyone.

Hey Vic - My DW momoftwogirls already thanked you for the AP rate post.

She was sitting in the study yesterday and all of a sudden SCREAMS "Vic posted"... then something I couldn't hear. I thought you'd gone over the edge and finally posted the locker room pictures of you at WWDave's health club.

Needless to say, I was greatly relieved to find out it was that the AP rates were out.

Thanks again.

Hi Colleen -

I'm still waiting for a call back from Disney. I called several times yesterday too..I was quoted several different rates...none of the CMs I spoke with were able to break down the rates for me by day :confused3 The last one I spoke with said that my account would be credited and that I would receive the $49 rate for each day of our stay (Thurs-Tues) She said that I would recieve a call in the next 24 hours with a new confirmation number. No call yet. Maybe I'll look it up online and see what they did.

Wow, MCMers are taking over the weekly WISH thread. I just have to say that Kathy, I didn't realize until today that you were "momoftwogirls". It's nice to put the screen names with the faces. I really enjoyed meeting you and Mike this weekend, and hope we can meet up again sometime in the future. You were such good hosts and ambassadors for your region.

Hey Kathy,

Wow, that is a great rate at POP. Vic is also checking in Thursday and getting the $99 for a moderate. Maybe that is the difference.:confused3 I am afraid to call again, I can hear the CM's laughing in the background, here's that crazy lady again calling about the AP rates. Right now I have a AAA rate for $119 a night, so it is not too bad.

BTW, sounds like you all had a great time in DC, can't wait to meet you and Mike in January!:thumbsup2

Jackie: bummer about being at Mile 22. I have to get a decent copy of the map - the one online is so hard to read. If 22 isn't somewhere all the way into Umstead Park, maybe we'll come visit anyway. Take care of that foot.

According to our instructions, our stop is on Ebenezer Church just before Richland Drive (the map makes it look more like it's right after Richland Drive, so who knows?), not too far from the intersection with Duraleigh Rd. I'll be there from 8:00-1:30, so come visit!

There's an "Ask the PT" at the Expo on Friday, so I think I may go by there during his session and see if I can talk to him about the foot. Might as well get something out of my registration!

Eva - Sorry for your loss. Running will keep you sane during the next few days.

Sabrina - Welcome! This group will absolutely get you trained for whatever distance you want.

Welcome back to all the MCMers!

Hi guys, I know I have been totally MIA from the boards for awhile. It has been a case of WTO, then lots of travel and racing. My midweek runs have suffered a bit (i.e. I haven't run as many of them as I should have), but I've been fairly happy with some of my racing lately! This weekend is my last race before the Goofy - a 5 miler nighttime race in Banff. Should be a good time!

I did get a run in today over lunch - my first since ToT. The legs have been feeling a little tired and I would have bailed except my coworker who is racing with me this weekend wanted to get a run in (even though she wasn't feeling it either). 3.52 mi in 36:48 (10:27/mi). Once we got going it sure felt great to be moving! I have my 5 mile race Saturday, then a 15 miler long run on Sunday. It is going to be a long weekend!

Leanna - can you please PM me?

Everyone sounds like training is going good. After my week of rest from the Nike 1/2, I'm back on the training regime. I've started the week cross-training (to help save my lower extremities.) Did an hour on the spinner on Tuesday and an hour on the elliptical on Wednesday. The spinner is up for tonight when I get home from work. Probably won't be able to hit the track for actual running until Saturday. This working for a living isn't all it's cracked up to be.:teeth:

Welcome back to all the MCM and ToT racers! Great pictures everyone!

Yesterday was crazy, but I did manage to get 4 miles done on the TM before trick or treating. DH sent me 3 dozen gorgeous roses since it was our 10th anniversary. Little did we know that we would not actually get to celebrate our anniversary until the kids were all grown and gone...we've spent all but one of our anniversaries trick or treating.

Krista and Steve...Happy Anniversary to you too!

Kristi...Happy Belated Birthday!

:welcome: Bob, Sabrina, Jodi! Don't worry about keeping up...I can't keep up anymore either ;)

Eva...so sorry for your loss.

Kevin...good luck on your move!

Terri, Leana...can we see a picture of the Tiffany necklace? Sounds like a great race!

lourodrigis...you posted a photo of yourself awhile back that was from a really cool running site. What was the name of that site?

The AP rate was only $2.38 cheaper for us than the AAA rate at the Poly. We've also found out that DD14's last day of finals is Jan 11, so we won't be able to pull her out of school that day to come up for the race. :sad1: Doesn't look like she'll be doing the half this year either...we're trying to find a date to schedule her knee surgeries. Hopefully, the surgeries will make it possible for her to do the Minnie...gotta keep our streak alive!

I'm trying to figure out how far to run for this weekend's LR. Higdon calls for 15, but I've been thinking about going back to MFM. My foot's done really well, until I tried to do speedwork on Wed, so I'm thinking less mileage may be better.

MSWDave - glad you were able to get 3 miles in today and that your legs felt good.
Kim - Good luck with the weight loss thing. Sounds like you have a good plan.
PrincessRunner - :thumbsup2 on no PF pain. Keeping my fingers crossed that it stays away.
Krista - Sorry you got sick. We got back yesterday afternoon but then I am use to this weather so maybe that is what got you. We rode on BTMRR and ended up getting soaked because it started to pour. Didn't realize they still ran it in the rain. Everyone must have thought we just got off Splash, who would have thought you could get SOAKED on BTMRR???
Jen - What a great idea about the DVD player for the stroller and I just have to say your DD is adorable. I loved your pics.
Sara74 - Sounds like you have a good plan for the Minnie. By saying its 26 weeks away makes it seem not so far away (LOL) since that might be the next time I get to WDW :sad2:
Sabrina - Welcome!!!! Check out Active.com to find race dates in your area. That is always a good place to start.
Jodi - Welcome to the craziness!! Don't worry about being able to keep up. Sometimes I only have a chance for a drive by and to update on my training. I feel bad about it when I do it but I am sure everyone realizes that LTO/WTO sometimes. Good luck in the Goofy.

As far as me - I was able to get out for 2 miles today. My legs felt great. My shin splint bothered me just briefly when I first started out. It wasn't my legs that held me back its my breathing - I felt like I was going to die (well not really!!!) but I had to keep stopping to walk. I barely made it down the first street which is only .25 mile and I had to walk. I guess the legs got a work out after the race by all the walking around WDW but the lungs didn't get the work out they are use to and decided to slow me down. Oh well I didn't get too down on myself since I did end up making it in 25 minutes. I went up by the beach (luckly only 1 mile from my house) and there were really big waves. Guess that is from Tropical Storm Noel that is passing by out in the Atlantic ocean. Just 30 mins north of me there is a condo or hotel that is about ready to fall into the ocean because the beach has been erroded away so bad.

Hopefully I will be able to get out tomorrow morning and do another 2 miles and the humidity won't be as bad as that is why my DH thinks I was having a problem with my breathing (and not just lack of training!! LOL)

TnTsParty: good for you getting out for the 2 miles! I hope the shin splint goes away permanently!

Sabrina, Jodi: welcome! Don't worry about keeping up! It's hard sometimes but it's worth it to stick your head in every so often. Let us know what your goals are and how your training is progressing. Oh, and banter whenever you can.

chimera: hope the foot continues to do well. I've also been following Higdon's plan and am supposed to run 16 miles this weekend. Boy, it seems that all I do is run. I'd give anything to NOT run just one week!

Leana: good luck in Banff! I hear it's beautiful and I'd love to see it some day.

Who was it who said they were going to get a flu shot? Thanks--I'd forgotten about that. I need to find out when my doctor's office is giving them.

NEPatsFan Bill: what was your bib number?

Battery is running low on the ol' laptop so...have a good evening everyone!

Ugh, what is it about going on vacation? Seems like the world exploded here while we were gone. I've been going non-stop since we got back. Only gotten to run once, and not for lack of wanting to. And to think, I'm a SAHM--can't even bear the thought of what life would be like if I worked full-time!

Krista--sorry to hear about the rain! We actually had a beautiful night--except they had to close Mickey's toontown for awhile around the fireworks b/c of the wind (no biggie for me--actually was nice, didn't have to wait in line for hours to see characters b/c they forced us out!)

Hey all - just popped in to remind myself that everyone else is running 15 miles this weekend as well. 13 is (mentally) easy, done that loads of times, but only ever run 15 miles once before and I'm scared (not helped by the whole having to run 7 miles the day before thingy or the fac tthat my shuffle is no longer shuffling just playing everything in the same order!!!!) - Martha, I'm with you, all my weekends at the moment consist of running and house hunting - I'm desperate to go away for a weekend and not do either!

I do however admit to a brief moment of gloating last night in the pub - I was the only girl there with nine men (not intentional, don't know where all the other girlfriends were) and one of them saved me a chair to rest my legs after my half this weekend. So someone else said ' what you ran 13 miles last weekend and you're still walking' and I said, yep, but that's the easy bit this weekend I'm running 22 miles! He nearly choked on his beer. I'm so used to mixing with runners I forget that actually we all need a pat on the back now and again as it's all a bit of an achievement.

At least the amount of time I've got to run for shrank after being able to measure my times last week, I'm now working on the fact that I run 13 miles at my training pace in 2.20 last weekend so I'm going to stick with that - then add 12 minute miles past 13 - so I only have to do 2.44 Sunday (I had planned on 3hrs originally)

So anyway, good luck for everyone this weekend - I'll be thinking of you. Helen

Anyone get the email from Pearl Izumi via Active.com?

It's a promotion to win free shoes for life, but says:

"Runners: Win Free Pearl Izumis for Life"

"Joggers: At the rate you're going, your shoes should last a lifetime"

I went ahead and entered the drawing. I figure if I were to actually win, it would really frost them to have a jogger sporting a 12 min mile winning their runners promotion :stir:
If anyone else wants to enter (to give a better chance of a 'jogger' winning), http://www.wearenotjoggers.com/home

Helen...you go ahead and gloat!

Sunny...are you out there? Someone mentioned the clippies are down and I found the whole page gone. I sent a PM but haven't heard from you. Hope you're okay!

Leana (and Terri)...thanks for posting the necklace picture. That is really cool! I'd love to have something from a race that I could wear all the time...sporting those medals might look funny at work ;)

Actually, we have someone working on marketing for our office now and they're giving us ideas on connecting with the public. I've been encouraged to mention on my website bio that I'm a runner along with other personal info. The doc and I have walls in our lobby that display our diplomas, certificates, etc...my office manager convinced me to hang my shadow box with this year's medals. I've gotten several comments from patients, including one lady who's said she's training for the Sarasota half next year because I had talked to her about it awhile ago. Kinda cool

Hi Everyone!

I did an 8 mile hill workout yesterday and I was pretty sore afterwards. I haven't had any real soreness all season so it actually felt good. I must be crazy.

Cecilia - I did pick up my runner's mace yesterday at Big Peach Running Co. Are you doing the half or full for the ING Georgia? Were you planning on joining any training groups for it?
I am doing the half at ING Georgia then the half at Country Music. I did this last year and loved it. After training for a marathon, training for the halves seemed almost easy! I would really love to do the San Diego Marathon but spring is a tough time for me to train for a full marathon so I will probably do a fall marathon. I train with TNT/Northside. We do most of our runs around the Windward Parkway area.

Babysitters here are $10/hr per child, so that 3 hour run would cost me $60.00 if DH isn't able to watch them- from that perspective, a DVD player is a bargain! )Jen in GA
Jen - you crack me up. I am picturing the stroller with a DVD and a picinic basket strapped on to it!
$10 an hour is steep for a run! Maybe you could cut a deal with someone? I did a trade off with a friend of mine for my Wednesday night runs. She has all the kids on Wednesday and I take them on Friday. Its easy enough and I never go anywhere on Friday nights anymore so it works for me.

Happy Trails!

Helen: nice pat on the back for you! I never know if I should say how far I'm running in non-running groups b/c it somehow sounds like I'm bragging. But runners understand and are so supportive. All of my co-workers, and I do mean all of them, are so sedentary. One person plays raquetball on a regular basis but no one does anything else. I feel like I'm bragging if I talk about my races or training runs. It's so nice to come to this thread and talk here.

Leana: awesome necklace! It's wonderful.

WWDave: you are great to have in the group! Love chatting with you.

Mel: what a great idea--displaying your certificates and medals. Wish I worked in a place that valued that kind of thing!

Angie: usually a couple hundred miles on a pair of shoes. I just bought a new pair but I'm putting so many miles on them each week now that I will buy a new pair in December and break them in before the marathon.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day! Good luck to everyone running races this weekend. And good luck to everyone with training runs! 10 weeks to the marathon.

Mel - thanks for the birthday wishes! And I entered the contest from that not-to-be-mentioned shoe company. I figure if I win, I can eBay those to pay for better things! ;)

Krista - thanks for the anniversary wishes! I better buy Chad a card or something, huh? I'll probably forget until the day of. Happy belated anniversary to you two! (I remember since your anniversary is my ex's bday  ) I am bummed I didn't track you down in MK on Monday! We were there from about 1 or 2pm until about 4pm, then off to the airport in our soaking wet clothes - ugh. Oh, and were you the one who has/d the Saturn Ion and doesn't like it?

Speaking of flu shots....I just got rejected by the nurse here at work for mine. Apparently, I should see my doctor since I STILL have this cough thing that started last Monday in FL. So, she wouldn't shoot me up! :rotfl: I am going to call the doctor now, but I doubt I can get seen. Zack has his first swim class this session today at 3:30, and that kind of screws up my afternoon. I'd hate for him to miss the first day in a new class.

Chad is getting his flu shot here later today.
He is going to be careful not to cough around the nurse! :rotfl2:

And since I am still sick, I have done no exercise since ToT.
I am going to plot my training plan in my log today though.

I will do some major relaxing catching up with last week's Next Great American Band, then watching the new show tonight though. :goodvibes

I would say you definitely want to be breaking in a new pair. How much mileage should you have on the shoe before the race? Not sure I know the answer to this one, but you definitely want to have done your last few long runs in it so you know they are comfortable. I generally keep two pairs of shoes in rotation.

Hey Jodi,

Last year after Chicago I don't think I started back to back runs until about 3 weeks later. I wanted to really recover and then I did 3 back to back. They were 8/16, 9/18 and 10/20 three weeks out. I was fine and would have had decent half and full marathon times if it wasn't for the heat last year.:scared:

Must run, meeting DH for lunch today!

I posted a separate thread about this, but I wanted to post it here too.

OK, this may get long-winded, but here goes. As some of you may know, this has been a very trying Fall for me. My mother passed away in September, and I've been receiving a lot of funding pressure here at work. This month I was told there is only guaranteed funding for my position for another year, and I might be wise to keep my eyes out for other positions here at the University.

This has got me thinking about what it is I want to do when I grow up. During one of my long runs training for the Marine Corps Marathon, I was thinking that I would love to organize tours/trips for runners to go to races. I would especially like to organize trips to Disney races. Then, a light bulb went off - why don't WE as a WISH team organize ourselves as a group in order to take advantage of some of the group travel opportunities Disney has to offer. I think we had over 100 runners and walkers participate in the Tower of Terror 13K weekend, and we have over 100 runners and walkers signed up to participate in the Marathon Weekend events in January. Last year, we did take advantage of organizing an Illuminations Dessert Party which was fantastic (thank you Rhonda).

Let me state up front, I am NOT looking to make any money from my fellow WISH teammates, but here's where my WISH teammates come in. How much interest would there be in trying to organize team/group events for the Minnie Marathon Weekend? I have a call in to a Disney group planner to get some details. How much a block of rooms would be? How much would certain events be, etc.

I was thinking I could even rent a 15 passenger van to shuttle people around to events for the weekend. I could be the WISHes Express and take people from the airport to their hotel, take people to events, take people to the starting line, and take people back to the airport. I look at this as a test case to see how it would be to organize some running tours. I'm thinking I would ask for money to offset the cost of a rental van or any group events we do, but I am NOT looking to make money off of this. I would be more than willing to be the driver, gopher, and helper to make a WISH trip even that much more special.

Whaddya think? Would you be interested? If there is enough interest, I will pursue this with the Disney group planners. Please add your name to the separate thread on this board.

What the heck. I entered as well. My reasoning being that if a super Pooh-sized, out of shape walker wins, they may have to change their ads (or at least not get any good advertising based on this contest).

Martha My bib no. was 3932. There are a few pictures of me. Although I don't look great, I think I look better than I was actually feeling. ;)

Hey everyone- did 3 miles on the TM. I have a friend at the gym who just started running, and she wanted to see my Minnie medal, so you know, I started a little late...:rolleyes1 (But, hey, how often does anyone really care?! )

Helen- I'm doing 7 Saturday and 15 Sunday too! I've done 6/13, but the extra 2 miles Sunday are really messing with my head. Who am I kidding? All of November is messing with my head! I just don't know if I can find a route that won't bore me to tears.

Shoes- Just last night as I was feeling sorry for myself icing my heels and trying to decide why they hurt, I realized I've got well over 300 miles on my favorite pair! D'Oh! Looks like I need to hit the mall- we only have Footlocker type places, but hopefully I can find replacements.

Dave- hmmm... block of rooms, driver, special events... what's not to love!:cool1: (By the way, add 2 to your count for ToT- I never officially added my name to the list).

Got to face my desk now.

Morning everyone.

No training to report this week as I've been a walking, talking snot factory since returning from Disney. Gave it to the DW, and now she loves me even more.

Have 13 scheduled for Sunday. Hopefully, I'll be feeling better.

Everyone - Keep up the great training!

:thumbsup2 I love your thinking!

It is a very inspirational thing you are doing at your place of work. Where better to display that type of encouragement too!

Happy celebrations to everyone.

Goofy training for me was following the idea set up on tricharlotte.com where it was recommended that on the every other week of the long miles that you do half that distance on Saturday and then the entire distance on Sunday. It worked for me twice. I can recommend that. You do want to make sure that you are getting in your regular training in between for sure though.

Hi all!

I posted once on the weekly thread a couple of weeks ago and posted on the MCM thread a few times before the MCM. Now that the MCM is over, I'd like to join you all on this thread.

As for my current running goals, I feel as if I am in a post-marathon fog and am not sure what to do with myself. I have had zero physical activity since the marathon, which is fine, except I actually can't wait to run (perhaps I'll change my mind about that one after actually running). I would have run a few easy miles yesterday or today, except I was so tired in the morning that I didn't want to get out of bed to run before work (and I normally work until 8 or 8:30, so running after is not really an option - at that point, all I want to do is go home and eat dinner).

The only races for which I am currently registered are a Thanksgiving Day 5k and the National Half Marathon at the end of March. I'm going to have to come up with some sort of training schedule for myself - I'm good at following schedules, not so good at getting out and running if I don't have one.

As for my other race goals for next year and early '09, DH and I have decided to do the Goofy in '09:banana: and, although we were originally thinking about doing the Flying Pig in May '08, it doesn't work out great for DH's school schedule, so I think we are going to do RNR San Diego June 1st.

That's all for now. I hope to try to keep up with this thread and get to know all of you.

Ran another two miles this morning. That puts me at 6.5 for the week so far. I know most of you do more than that in a day but we are taking baby steps here!

Mouse Skywalker - I would be interested in something for the Minnie. We are staying on our points at SSR for the first time that week, so rooms would be out. A dessert party would be great! And I might take advantage of a shuttle to the race if that comes to be.

Jodi - where in CT are you? We are in Granby (yeah!) Just moved to town this year.

Have a great day everyone!

Sara in CT - I'm right in Middletown! Not too far from Granby! WTG on 6.5 this week so far. Baby steps are good:woohoo:

Dave - I'm really diggin your idea! I'll sign up on the other thread..let us know what Disney comes up with. Are you signed up for the MINNIE?? I miss my running pardner:guilty:

Tiger Lily - Thanks for the GOOFY tips, since this is your 3rd, whatever you're doing is obviously working:thumbsup2 . I'll check out that website!

Colleen - That looks like an awful lot of running:scared1: . Might have to re-think this Goofy thing next time.

Hey all... I got sick again but this time I think it was a touch of food poisening. Once I got it out of my system I am starting to feel better. I am now sure that starting my Airborne and getting my flu shot is essential. Oh that and my DD got "sick" at school and I had to go pick her up. I swear it's the kids that pass this junk on to me!!!!

My training is again spotty this week, but I am trying. Thankfully it is a cut back week for me and I only have to do 6, tho I may push it up to 7!!!!

Dave - I have Minnie on my calendar this year since it's the last one. I have to get a Minnie medal. DH and I may make it a fast weekend trip, but I am all for saving a buck with a group plan!!!!

Dave--So does that mean you are dissing the Pig for Minnie. :sad1: I meant to tell you yesterday that your dad is the cutest thing ever!!

Kristi--Yeah, I have a Saturn Ion and I'm not impressed with it at all. Actually we haven't had any problems in over a year (knock on wood), but we've lots of problems in the past--it was in the Saturn dealership 3 or 4 times because something was wrong with the transmission, it was idling too high, 3 times for the day time running lamps that were wired too strong and kept blowing the bulbs, once because the starter went out--the dealership's excuse was that it was too cold out and with the car being manufactured in TN, it's not used to Ohio's harsh winter weather. :confused3 Okay, 1. It was December and not that cold yet. 2. Our winter's aren't that bad, we're usually in the 20's and 30's. 3. We had the car for over a year at that point, if it was the cold weather, why didn't it have any problems the winter before? And the biggie was last summer when the timing chain snapped at 50,000 miles while I was driving to work on the highway in rush hour traffic. We bought the car new in Aug. 2004, so we are the only owners and Stephen and I are both anal about keeping it up to date with oil changes and maintenance etc. so it's not like the car hasn't been taken care of. Oh, and the interior stains SO bad and it's impossible to get stains out and while the trunk is big, the "mouth" is shaped weird, so it's hard getting things in the trunk. We had the Saturn SL2 and loved it, which is why we bought the Ion, but it was nothing like our other Saturn.

But I had this idea this morning, and I think helping to organize some WISH team events for the Minnie might really help to get my foot in the door for organizing these types of trips. I can really see taking groups of Rochester students down to Disney for running events. That would be awesome!

I can only get between 200 to 300 miles depending on the shoe. Nike SHOX or Air Max is about 200-250 and the NB 1061s that I just got are 250 to 300. :confused3

Thanks Lisa!

You got me thinking about my sore feet. I knew I needed to replace my Nikes, but it hadn't really hit me until I read your post that the Nikes seemed to get lower mileage. Just got back from Fleet Feet, where they confirmed that they don't last as long. My Air Zooms had 350+, so I'm now the proud new owner of a pair of Mizuno Wave Inspires!

And then someone posted that we are 10 weeks out... :scared: The way I figure, if I can make every training run under the 16 minute per mile limit, I am good as gold. Hi Folks,

Jodi - I'm probably in the vast minority but I'm not planning on doing the back-to-back long runs training for Goofy. I figure it would be like training for a root canal. It's gonna hurt like heck once, why do it any more than I need to ;) . I'm just going to count backwards from my MCM training plan and pick it up at the right number of weeks out starting next week.

Cindyx2 - Welcome to mosh pit! I'm thinking about the National Marathon full but will wait until post-Goofy to decide if I'd like to take a little break.

Martha and Others breaking distance barriers - Scary, I know but enjoy the excitement and novelty of each new milestone. I think that doing those really long distances the 2nd or 3rd time is harder than the first.

Jackie - Congrats on the new shoes. A day late and a dollar short I know but... If I were you I'd use your new shoes for a few weeks and if you like them get another pair. Do a few runs and at least one long LR in each pair. Set the newest pair aside for the full, use the older pair for the half.

You really don't have to "break in" a pair that fits correctly. Heck, ask Chester. He bought a brand new pair at the MCM expo on Friday, walked around town a bit on Sat, and ran the full on Sunday. Brave man!

DW and I went check out a new running store in our area this AM. Unfortunately, they're not open yet and we ended up at a home decor store instead. OH THE HUMANITY!:scared1:

Well, I'm back on the horse after the MCM. Ran 3 on the TM last evening. Went out with DD11 and DD7 (on a bike) for 1.6 this afternoon, dropped them back at the house and ran 4 more at a pretty quick pace. I think I'll hold off on the LR this weekend but will get back to the regularly scheduled program (whatever that may be) next week.

Good luck and have fun to all those hitting the streets this weekend.

Martha, Jen, Mel, Vic and everyone else training for the first marathon. Mike is absolutely correct, completely enjoy each milestone in your training program. Everytime you conquer a new distance is such a thrill. Keep to the program, but listen to your bodies, if you need to skip a weekday run here and there it is not the end of the world. Stay healthy and get in the steps for the long runs and the marathon will be icing on the cake.

Good luck with the second half of the training program.

Sara! Uh, how do I train for GOOFY now, just coming off of a marathon on Sun? Where do I begin? What should my longest run be? I've read about the run Fri. double that mileage on Sat. thingie.. Is that my best bet?:confused3
I am only doing one long back to back run in my training for Goofy. I do several that are a day apart though: I run 13.1 on Thanksgiving and 18 that Saturday.

Mostly what I decided to do was to up all my short run mileage so that my over all mileage is higher. That and I am doing a double workout on Wednesdays. For instance next weeks runs look like this:
Sunday:rest/cross train depending on how my legs recover
Monday:rest
Tuesday:6 fast
Wednesday 10 in the am/5 in the pm
Thursday:8 hill workout
Friday: rest
Saturday:16 slow

Anyway, thats what I am doing, we will see if it works in January. Right now I am bouncing off the walls I am feeling so good.

I agree! Dh took me to Outback as a reward for each new milestone last year. This year I am lucky if he helps wash the dishes! I guess I won't get Outback again unless I get home with a Goofy medal.
Thankfully, I am mentoring a group of first time marathoners so I get to enjoy their thrills as they conquer each new distance. They still don't believe me when I tell them that its going to be fun, but they are starting to catch on.

Jackie, I just got the Mizuno Wave Inspires, too.

I have run in them twice and my right foot is hurting again, plus both my little toes. I'm sure I'll lose my toenails in these shoes soon. I had gone to a store where they fitted me with the computer pad and video treadmill so I'm a tad disappointed. I ran in them outside in the parking lot and they felt good at the time. I now see Runners World gives these shoes a best buy mark, but it says they are for normal to low arches - I have slightly high. I also have neutral feet I was told, with very slight pronation on the left foot. I'm thinking these shoes were wrong for me... :headache:

Hi everyone,

Glad to hear everyone is recovering well from their races last week and back in the saddle of training (so to speak). I hit another milestone today - completed an 18 mile long run. I did it in 3:12 which I was pretty pleased with. I felt better up to the 16 mile point than I did on my 16 miler 2 weeks ago so that was good but those last few miles my legs were tiiiiiirrrrreeeddd and I could feel the lactic acid building up. It's hard to imagine doing another 8 miles at that point but I did keep myself from thinking that until after I was done.

Question for the vets in here: Do you run past 20 in your training and if so, how many times? The plan I'm following called for 17-20 today (I did 18) and then 2 more runs around 20 with one that ranges from 20-23. This is my first marathon and I don't want to overdo things but I've been feeling good in training and haven't had any injuries or even really problems yet. In fact, I'm usually only sore/tired for a couple hours after my run and am usually good to go the next day. I'm just thinking that maybe going over 20 a couple times would be good mentally and help me suffer less in those final miles. What do you think?

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

I'm waking up and fueling up for my run this morning. Nothing too long planned - I thought I'd go 6 miles and see how the legs are feeling. I don't have any races in the near future, but I wanted to keep the habit up. Besides, I really enjoy my Saturday morning long run time to myself. I'm looking forward to following the marathon trials today too.

Martha- Don't psych yourself out too much on breaking distance barriers. You can do it. I agree with your red badge of courage mantra. When I was training for the full last year, every run over 10 miles was the first time I had went that long. I always surprised myself when I was done. I remember last October was the first time I had done a half marathon (at Niagara Falls), and every week seemed like I was breaking new ground. It was exciting, but, yes, I was also nervous too. Even when running the marathon, I had never done anything longer than 20 miles in training. When I crossed the 20 mile point at Disney (and stopped for a port-a-potty), I remember thinking I had never run farther than this before. Enjoy the journey, and just take it one step at a time, one mile at a time. You can do it.

Mike- Good job getting back into the running after the MCM. How are your legs feeling? Mine feel absolutely fine, but I still don't want to push it too much. Is Kathy running at Disney in January?

Colleen- Good advice, and you stay healthy too. How are your legs these days. Are they making the adjustment to walking OK?

Sara- Did you post how your doctor's appointment went?

Cecilia- I hadn't been posting on the weekly thread since I was busy over at the MCM thread. It's good to see you again. I didn't know you were mentoring a group of 1st time marathoners. That's great! Good for you! I also didn't know you were going Goofy this year too. WTG! You must have signed up for that quickly after the marathon.

Shan- Take the shoes back. Any good running store will let you take your shoes back if they're not working out for you. Don't think twice about it.

Kristin- :wave2: Hello over there in Japan. Great job on your 18 miler! Great pace, and congrats on breaking the new distance. What are you training for right now? I'm certainly not a marathon vet (just 2 under my belt now), but that never stopped my from offering advice. I know Jeff Galloway's training plans call for runs longer than 20 miles. He believes that one reason runners hit "the wall" at 20 miles is because they don't go longer than 20 miles in their training. Most other plans stop at 20 miles because they believe that anything longer than 20 miles takes too long to recover from. Runners doing both plans are certainly successful. In both marathons I trained for I planned on doing 1 final run longer than 20 miles. It never happened, althought I did run 20 miles 2x in my training. For my first marathon, my 1st 20 miler was a stonker. I cramped up at mile 15 and ended up walking the last 5 miles. For my 2nd marathon, my first 20 miler was fine. Two weeks later I was planning 23 miles. Life circumstances intervened, I couldn't get out until late, it was brutally hot, I ran out of water, and at 20 miles I ended the run because I didn't want to hurt myself. That being said, ending the run at 20 miles when I was planning 23 made the run seem short, and I couldn't believe my mindset was "OK, I'll JUST run 20 miles today." I think in those cases it was the right call for me. Both my marathons went fine, and I didn't go over 20 miles in training. Hope that wasn't too long-winded.

OK, have great runs out there everyone.

Good Morning Everyone!

Hi Dave! I was a little worried when I got back inthe swing of things here and you weren't posting then I saw that you were doing MCM. Congrats on your finish! One of our coaches broke his ankle at MCM and had to have surgery this week. The guy is a machine doing 3-4 marathons a year and one mistep took him out. Scary thought.

Yes I am Goofy this year. I just hope I finish. I am NOT, I repeat, NOT going to try to make any certain time. Well, under 7 hours but thats it. IF I say otherwise then someone hit me.

WHEN is Minne?, WHY is this the last one?, and HOW long is the race? I think I would enjoy a Mouse Skywalker race package. Now I just have to convince DH that I am not addicted to racing....:rolleyes1

Thank you all for your kind words. We are home safe and feeling better. I got 3 miles in at the hotel Thurs night. Eeegads...I do hate the TM!!! I wasn't sure of the setting so I went a solid 6.5 and didn't run my 9 min 5K that I thought I could get in. I guess 7 would have been a better choice, but I was just so tired from the long ride. It was about 11 hours from door to door due to stops. I was stuck in a back seat with a car seat and another adult. Very crammed...I felt like a sardine. Anyhow..back to catching up...

Krista - Hope you feel better!!

Mel - Happy Anniversary!! My friends always told me that I should get married on Halloween, but I never thought about that (the fact of spending the future anniversaries trick or treating).

Kim - I have always struggled with my weight..I hate to say it, but Weight Watchers is the only thing that works for me. Have you thought about joining a structured plan like WW?

Sara - I'm all about baby steps...they are good. :)

Jen - Hope you feel better!!

OK....back on track with my dieting efforts and back to work today. Hope everyone has a great Saturday and happy training!!

Morning teammates! WISH I could say I'm headed out the door for my LR, but alas, that will have to wait until tomorrow. Darn that work! I'm shooting for 12 tomorrow, though. Last weeks 8 at ToT was the longest since the Akron Marathon, and now my training is all screwed up. Looks like DH and I won't get any "back down" weeks until around 18-20 miles. I think I've decided to just have fun with Disney--I PR'd at Akron and have really no need to beat that time right now. With the holidays coming up and both kids bdays we are gonna be crazy busy, so I'm just gonna enjoy the training I can do.

MSDave--so good to see you posting around these parts again--was missing your daily updates! A WISH tour guide sounds awesome, but no Minnie for us this year. DBIL is getting married the next weekend up in Ohio, so can't do the back to back trips. Luckily I got my Minnie medal last May. Oh, and everyone is right--you NEED that Minnie to go along with the Mickey!

Eva--Hugs to you and your family. Glad to hear that you're home safely!

Mike--Ha! on the root canal analogy! Oh, and, once again in your honor, DH and I had an Optimator in Germany last weekend--unfortunately it was the afternoon before ToT and it reared it's ugly head around mile 5!:rotfl2:

Kristin--Glad to hear that everything is going well over in Japan. I'm in the group of not training over 20 miles--kinda like Mike posted about training for the Goofy--it's gonna hurt like he11 once, why do it more than that?:lmao: But actually for my first marathon, I didn't even get to 20 miles b/c of illness and still finished well. I suppose if I were training to qualify for Boston I might push myself a bit more, but not gonna do it!

Okay, gotta run. Have a great day everyone!:thumbsup2

Kristin - Since I'm a Galloway runner, I'm doing it the way Dave described and running farther than my race distance. But my training is all screwed up since I was planning for the full in Raleigh before I got injured, so I've already run 18 and now I'm only doing the half at Disney so my mileage is way over. Since I've started back, I'm aiming to do 16 between now and January.

Managed 8 this morning. Walked about a mile in the middle to give the feet a chance to understand that we really were going to do some distance today - they finally got the message around mile 5 and stopped hurting, so I picked back up with the 3R/1W that the group was doing when I left them! So far I like the Mizunos; I'll try a couple more runs before I take Mike's suggestion and go buy another pair!

Now it's off to the beach for a band competition, then back home tonight so I can be up and on the marathon course at 7:00 to man the water/Gu stop for 5 hours. Glad we gain an hour for sleep tonight!

Since everyone is talking about covering new distances, it reminds me of Disneyland last year. It was my first half and I was walking for a long time with Cam. We crossed the Mile 9 marker and it dawned on me, I had never gone further than 9 miles before! It was such a cool feeling. And then to hit the 10, 11 & 12 mile markers (as well as the finish line, of course).

It is one of my favorite race memories - turning to Cam and telling her that I had never gone that far before, just after we crossed mile 9. :goodvibes

As for training now....well, I still have this cough/cold thing. I am going to take it easy today and start with training tomorrow. My log is all marked through the WDW half. And Sundays are my stretch & strengthen days, so breathing (or lack there of) should not be an issue. I will get to a doctor Monday if this hasn't gone away - at that point, I will have had this cough for 2 weeks!

Thanks to all of my WISH friends for your kind words of support. This means a lot to me. It's all mental now and it's rather psyching me out. I've got my audible.com books and several routes to choose from. I just have to go out there and do it.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Hey everyone- thanks for the encouragement! What a nice group.:goodvibes

I like the reward idea. I'm thinking if I finish the 15 tomorrow I might get some sort of new running stuff. I did 7 today at an 8:36 pace- too fast and I may regret it tomorrow, but it felt great at the time.

You'll be pleased to hear I tricked my little guy into not being barefoot in his stroller. After buying two new pairs of shoes he instantly took off (including cowboy boots!), I realized there was a simple answer: PJs with footies. So he was in PJs, sweats, and a puffy jacket! He didn't seem to mind, and I didn't have to worry about looking like a negligent mother.:rolleyes1

Martha- has anyone mentioned the time change? The way I see it, we get extra time to finish our runs! Good luck tomorrow!

Jackie - I'm sorry, for some reason I had it in my head that you were doing the Goofy. I'd still get another pair of shoes a few weeks out and use them for the half (who doesn't want a new pair of shoes?!:thumbsup2 )

Shan - Ditto about taking the shoes back.

MSDave - Legs are feeling pretty good, all things considered. I think I felt a little worse right after MCM than my first in May but have recovered much more quickly. Kathy is doing the half at WDW in Jan. She aggravated her shin splints last weekend chasing the girls in their race Sat and chasing me around on Sun so had to take a break this week. She was finally able to get out and do 5 miles this morning.

Kristin - Congrats on the good run. I've followed a Hal Higdon plan for my 2 marathons so far and his plans only go to 20 miles. I'll probably stick to that for Goofy training as well but would like to extend that to a 22 or 23 miler for whatever race I do in the spring.

Stephanie - I'm glad you enjoyed an Optimator. I've had a bottle or two at home this week. Good, but I have to admit it's not the same without a big plate of German food and an Oom-pah band playing.

Jen in GA - 7 miles at 8:36? Wow, that's flying! That's much faster than your usual pace, no?

I was planning on taking a rest day today but the opportunity to get a run in presented itself. DD7 had a birthday party to go to.

My choices were:
1. Take her and have 2 hours to run as much as I felt like then sit in the quiet van and read this month's Runner's World until she was done.
2. Drop her off, come home and clean the house.

Hmmm.... Decisions, decisions ;) So I ran 9 hilly miles, read a few articles, and the house is still a mess.

Enjoy the extra hour of sleep.
