Ya know....you might want to book at AAA rate now while the rooms are available. We did that last year (booked AAA as soon as they came out) and then a couple months before our trip, the APH rates released. Well, I guess they didn't have many rooms offered at APH rate, cuz by the time I called to switch my rates, there were no rooms left available....they wouldn't let me do it! :sad2: (Luckily, it was only about $20 difference w/ AAA)... Just kept the AAA rate and had the room...you might want to rethink your strategy.....

This is slightly off topic, but relevant, and I didn't think it warranted a new thread. I called the HRH about the weekend of May 16-18, 08' and the hotel is sold out, not 1 room available as of now. The woman on the phone said there must be a convention or something. :confused3

So here's my info

I called out of curiosity, I was again quoted $233 (before tax) for the same weekend that peel was quoted $220 (before tax) both AAA. Hmmmm.... wonder what that is all about?? Anyway, the girl on the phone said there is a city-wide convention and the RPR is 90% full already, and like I said earlier in this thread, the HRH is sold out. Just thought I would let everyone know!

Peel, when date did you actually make your reservation?
Thanks

I made my initial reservation on 9/24 and then applied the AAA discount the first day it was released (can't remember exactly). I noticed that your rate is higher than mine....I don't have an explanation! It seems I got a 15% discount and you got a 10% discount. :confused3

I shouldn't have procrastinated, I should have booked the standard at $233 when I called for a price.
I called today with credit card in hand, thinking, hey, it's still over 5 months away, it will still be there, well, no it isn't!
Now the only available rooms at the RPR are King Suites, at almost $400 a night, that's overkill for what I need. Since the HRH is sold out, I am staying at the Portofino.

There must be a huge convention the weekend of May 16th to 18th. The HRH is sold out, the RPR only has King & Kid Suites, and the Portofino has limited availability. So if you are interested in that weekend book it now, before there is nothing left!
I'm going to go back and edit my original listing!

Yeah, I know............ I even had them save it for me for a day without a credit card, then I got busy and forgot about it. Must be something big that weekend, I'm glad I'll have FOTL! Our timeshare exchange that week before the Portofino is so close to the parks, it shares the water from the Wet & Wild lagoon! Here (http://www.westgateresorts.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=resort_detail.show_resort_det ails&resortID=WESTGATE_PALACE) is a link to it. It got decent reviews at tripadvisor, and it's so close, I couldn't resist!:woohoo:

I have another update! I called asking why I hadn't received a confirmation email for our weekend in May at the Portofino. So while I was on the phone, I asked if anything had come open at the RPR or HRH, well the HRH is still sold out, BUT, there was a standard opening at the RPR :cool1:
So I canceled the Portofino, and booked the RPR. So I saved around $60 a night and got the hotel I wanted (well, 2nd choice, I think the HRH is our fav now, and we'll be staying there in October :) )

So Barb, I'm going to have to wait to be in the "3 way club" ;)

We couldn't get a suite for the entire time at any of the three hotels with the Friday night being the problem. So... we decided instead just to stay at Disney cuz we were going to be there that night.

I'll have my son and girlfriend with me for the first part and then they leave and my daughter comes to stay for the second part.

If we could have had a suite for the whole time, we would have just stayed put but since we were going to have to switch anyways, we thought we just do it this way. We can also take advantage of the free disney bus to send the kids back to the airport on the Saturday and my daughter can take the free bus to meet us at the Animal Kingdom lodge on the Friday. It works perfectly.

She tried to tell me that my AAA rate of $250-something was going to increase to over $300-something. I told her that as Plat I should pay a GV rate and get the comped upgrade. She hung up on me. I called back and got someone who knew what she was doing. Also, this time, my confirmation number didn't change. She just changed the rate. This is inconsistent. Sometimes they cancel my old ressie and give me a new one. Sometimes they just change the rate. Hmpph.

So your rates are now same as mine. You booked a Garden View and got upgraded to King Suite cuz your a plat goddess, right? :worship: I'm just hoping for an upgrade to pool view cuz my dd15 has special needs and being able to watch out the window is a huge, big deal for her. I've actually got an e-mail from uvspecservices saying they will be certain to assign poolview - hopefully that carries some weight at check-in.

Each time I have changed my rate, they have kept the confirmation number exactly the same. They have, however, refunded the previous deposit and charged a new one. . . well, actually they charge the new rate then get around to randomly refunding the old deposit.

Oh yeah, I was re-reading the Loews First primer thread you created, and noticed that it was mentioned that sometimes supersaver rates have been known to be considered "internet" rates and not honored as qualifying. So I asked the reservationist when I was changing rates and she said for sure it was qualifying. Then, knowing how those things go, I called HRH and got someone at the front desk and asked the same question. I got 2 for 2 on this one - she said it definitely was qualifying and perks would be included. She even added a note on the ressie that says be sure to deliver welcome gift.

Update: When I got e-mail confirmation this evening, it only showed the higher rate of $235 instead of both rates. I e-mail special services and asked for an e-mail confirmation showing the rates as they actually are. We'll see what happens.

Hi Wendy, I do hope we never lose that Plat status. It's been a God-send to us!

Please make sure that you are on a high floor as much of the foliage has grown and blocked the view of the pool. I would hate to see your daughter upset if she is stuck looking at swaying trees. I'm sure the supervisors will take that into consideration, but don't accept a lower floor. We had a pool view on floor 6. Had we been on floor 4, we'd have not seen the pool through the trees. See you there. :goodvibes

Hey Jodie, thanks for the upper floor advice. I've asked for an upper floor on my reservation, just for that reason, but I will be certain not to accept something lower. I'll probably call a couple weeks before our trip to make sure they have it right - and I'll be certain to take all my correspondence with me as well.

BTW, I got an almost immediate response from specservices and they provided me with confirmation of the proper rates on the appropriate dates.

Actually, I just realized that I was looking at the wrong date. My AAA rate for the 29th is $12 lower than Lucky'sMom. Even weirder.

Do you have written confirmation of your ressie? My reservations went up $12 per night for Friday and Saturday.

If you don't have written confirmation, I would get it then see if your rate went up for Friday and Saturday. Make sure you ask specifically for confirmation of any rate change during your stay. My original confirmation only gives me the higher, weekend rate. I e-mailed special services and they right away sent me back confirmation showing the rate change.

Your rate is lower because you are staying for 3 nights or more. My rate is because we are only staying for one night.

If you have Triple A you will get the rate wether it is 1 night or 10 nights.
Supersaver rate gives you better discount if you stay longer.
My Triple a Rate for June/July is midweek $207 +tax and Fri and Sat is $220+tax.
so if you can get a midweek 1 night stay for $207 +tax standard room

The AAA rate is not the same no matter how many nights. If you stay 1-2 nights, the rate is higher; if you stay 3+ nights, the rate is lower (by about $12/night). You can see this on previous posts.

If you are staying 3 or more nights, the supersave rate will come up when you try to book. APH isn't always available but supersaver seems to be.

It really depends on what nights are falling on a Friday or Saturday....those nights are a higher rate no matter what...even IF using AAA. You still get the AAA discount on Friday and Saturday nights, but it'll still be higher ($20-$25/nite?) because it's considered a 'weekend'.

It was 'standard' to 'water' view :confused3 There is no 'deluxe' so maybe they renamed it?? Only thing I can think of :confused3

When you talk 'deluxe' at the HRH and PBH, they have the bigger rooms with the pullout sofas (most times)....but, not sure how 'deluxe' figures in to RPR??

btw...have ya seen the pic of the new 'kid suites' on the website? Look kewl! Looks like a king room and queen room joined and themed..... ;) But, classified as 'suite', so ya know...big $$ :scared:

Just as an FYI...I specifically called Universal and asked about this just a day ago. They told me 1-2 nights AAA rate was higher than 3 or more nights. My trip in June is on a Sunday and Monday night, and my rate is higher for those same nights than a previous poster who is staying for 3 nights by $12/night with AAA rate. I wish it weren't so...but that's the rate I got and that is what they said.

April 27th one night. Hard Rock Hotel. I booked a Garden View for $159. I'm excited because I checked this rate last week and it was much higher. They had RPH for $139 or PBH for $169. This is the annual pass discount. We haven't stayed at US for a couple of years, so was excited to book this one night before moving to our DVC resort. We are also Loews members (just blue), so updated that site too.

I'm not too familiar with the Supersaver rates...are they available during busy June dates, or only during slower seasons? Do they just come up when you search online, or do you have to call? I hate calling. Also, we are only staying 2 nights (at the moment!). I would even consider a APH, but the AAA rate was cheaper, which seemed odd. Maybe a better rate will come out before our trip. Until then...I'll hang close to these boards!;)

Glad to hear that they offered you at least the upgrade to WV since you can't qualify for the suite at RPR. Hopefully they are recognizing this short coming, and platinum families of 4-5 will not run into such a problem getting a Deluxe room instead of a King Suite at HRH.

That may be as good as it gets, though that's a LITTLE high for end of September. Good news though, is that you can just change your rate if you find a better one later. Book now and watch this thread. If you're finding people have better rates down the line for your time frame, just change your rate. But, hey! There are no ADRs over here, so stop saying that! ;)

Book now and watch this thread. If you're finding people have better rates down the line for your time frame, just change your rate. But, hey! There are no ADRs over here, so stop saying that! ;)

I would like to do that but the rub of this slightly discounted rate through AAA is that it is "pre-pay" and there is a $25 fee to cancel or change the reservation for any reason. Though $25 is but a pebble on the mountain of cash this vacation is going to cost, it amounts to half :teacher: of what AAA potentially saves me over the Universal "rack rate".

Really, though, you're input of "it seems a bit high for September" is enough to convince me to wait. I've read enough of this thread to know that you guys have a good feel for where the rates should be. Thanks for the input. I've bookmarked this thread and will check back often.

Sorry for the ADR reference;) . This vacation is 75% at the other park which I did not realize was taboo to mention.

It is not taboo to mention WDW .... a lot of 'regulars' here on the UO side GO to both parks and/or have APs to both parks.... you were not being flamed, but merely told that UO doesn't take ADRs....you don't have to plan that like you do Disney.... The end of Sept is not going to be busy to really warrant ADRs but if you are more comfortable with it, you can make it the morning of....

I sent you a PM...but call the hotel directly and use the AAA rate....sounds like AAA is trying to charge you extra to modify a res....skip the AAA TA and do it yourself...then you don't have to worry about any extra charges ;)

Your LF status doesn't matter when you book club. You'll be in a std club room. That's all she wrote on LF upgrades on that. It doesn't matter if you're Blue, Gold, or Platinum when it comes to club. We've stayed RPR Club many times as Platinum. Paid a qualifying rate (Supersaver, AAA). Booked Club. Paid for Club. Stayed in a similar club room the Blue and Gold folks did and people who have no LF status at all. Probably paid a higher rate than some who paid a non-qualifying rate (APH, FLO). No upgrades TO club. No further upgrades FROM club.

It would be very nice if LF offered club level as part of their upgrade perks. But they don't. :(

Ha, ha... I'm sooo sorry! I didn't realize I was stirring the pot by saying "don't know yet". First, my sister made the reservation so she didn't even bother to ask about our "first" rate. Second, even though we've stayed a couple of times onsite (even before trying club, this will be our second time!) we've never attached our "first" number to a reservation before. Yeah, I know, shoot us in the head:scared1: !

I was going to call and see if I can add it BUT I guess I shouldn't bother based on your response! Thanks for letting me know!

It is customarily cheaper to book room and tickets a la carte at Universal vs a package.....I'm not sure if your rate is good for your dates, as I normally don't go in Aug OR stay at HRH...but, someone will come along and let you know..... ;)

May
24 - 26 (2 nights)
RPR
Standard
$494 total including tax
AAA special internet rate (advanced payment required, but it's refundable until 14 days prior to check-in)
No LF upgrades

Considering it's for memorial day weekend, I thought this was a pretty good rate. I used the AAA website, selected only Loews hotels, and I was trying lots of different dates. Most of the rates that I found seemed to be just the regular rates. But when I did the search for these particular dates, then clicked on RPR, this rate listing was different than the rest. On the page that lists all the different rates for a particular hotel, there were two listings for RPR that both said "from $220". One of them looked like all the rest, but one of them had a notation that said "taxes included" and "advanced payment required". This is the one that I selected and it turned out to have a rate of $220 for the first night and $274 for the second. But both of those included taxes.

These rates are different than the standard AAA discounts. They come from a partnership between AAA and American Tours International. I guess ATI reserves blocks of rooms for their tour packages and they sell the excess through AAA. On our first visit to Orlando, I booked the Fairfield at Marriott Village during spring break for $42 / night using this discount program. But at that time, these rates couldn't be found through the regular hotel search on AAA. Instead, you had to find their "exclusives" or "hot deals" or "private collection" links.

So then the free dining promotion and the free ticket promotion really don't mean anything? :confused3 I tried plugging in information but it was not giving me the free dining price. We are looking to go in August during value season. I finally have Disney mastered and now I am trying to get a feel for Universal. I feel like I am starting from scratch,:headache: so many questions!

if you book a package for UO that has free dining/breakfast and tickets, add it all up separately to see how you come out ahead.

you can call the ressie clerks at UO resort and they will tell you what deals, bargains, specials that will be happening for the dates you plan to visit.

i have in the beginning called to see if the rates they had that i had not seen on any sites were available.
they were better bargains and they booked it for me.

just play around with the numbers some and see what is best for you.

when you book and give your loews number, you need to request the upgrade at the time of booking.

at blue you are supposed to request the free upgrade when checking in but you can also ask for it at booking time.

you might be surprised and get the upgrade at that point before you even leave on your trip.
if rooms are available for your time period, you will get it.

if you wait until you arrival, it might not be available.

for platinum, it is guaranteed for the free upgrade. that is why i always book garden view standard. i get my upgrade free.
the upgrade is different for each hotel.

hrh upgrade for platinum is the king suite.
different for the rph and pbh.

when i was at blue level, i received the upgrade 3 times.
rooms were available for my dates.
i was lucky.

call back and see if you can upgrade now.
all they can say is no.

then, try again when you check in if you can't now.
could be cancellations at the time you go.

I know how you feel....I once felt I knew everything about WDW...I was totally clueless when it came to UO. But, now it feels opposite

Usually, the $79 ticket for 7 consecutive days is what most buy. The dining plan is called Meal Deal and involves a wrist band, all you can eat and mostly CS. If City Walk restaurants are included, it's usually a 'limited' menu to choose from... :sad2:

Like macraven said, you just need to add up a la carte vs your package....see what works best for you :thumbsup2

t-and-a HAD supersaver rate booked at RPR and switched it to APH rate at PBH....it was a few dollars cheaper than the supersaver rate.... You won't find cheaper than APH or Supersaver....IF they still have rooms left at that rate. You'd better book before you end up stuck with rack rate! :scared:

I believe you'd lose your length of stay passes tho.....but, the 7 day ticket for $85 is a good enough deal, that it shouldn't matter.

Thank for the reply! There is a saying you snooze, you looze! That's me to a "T"....LOL....I had flights two weeks ago for $800, and now they are $950. SO, between the flight and the room, I am loosing. Right now the $299.00 (which includes 2 tickets) looks like the best to me and I will book today (I hope).

Thanks, again!

Since I have been up for the last 28 hours with no sleep, my brain isn't working....If I go APH I don't get the tickets right? The room is less by $90.00 per night which would equal to about $400.00...Then I still need 2 adults and 1 child...is that $400.00? My brain can't process....Help me...

So you need 2 more adult ticketsafter the AP?
I went to the Universal site and put one Preferred AP and 3- 7 day 2 park tickets in my cart and it came out to $462.95. With the 2 free tickets at the rate of 299/night, you would still need to buy two tickets, so you come out ahead by about $100 if you buy one AP, and then you get discounts in the park.
Look at this webpage to see what kind of discounts you will get with a Preferred AP:

I have to get a good rate for me to go back again (We just got back from a trip to Washington, DC). SO if the APH is the way to go, then so be it..I am looking for 3-4 nights at PBH. The child's 7 day ticket is the same price as the adult's 7 day ticket. Right now, they are coming up 79.99 + tax. I just figured one Preferred AP and 3- 7 day 2 park tickets.
Here's a link to buy your tickets:

If you decide to buy an annual pass, make sure and get the Preferred Annual Pass, because you won't get any discounts with the Power Pass, and you don't need the Premier Pass.

I can't work any miracles on flights! We drive every time we go. There are 5 of us in our group and air fare out of my area (Arkansas) is anywhere from $1600 - $2000. Everyone always talks about DINGS on the board, maybe someone will come along with some flight knowledge in a little bit. Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful time!

Is the $950 airfare a total for your crew (4)?...best I see non-Southwest for your dates is $304/pp at this point. Southwest has $227/pp, but it requires a late arrival and very early departure on the bookends of your trip, which I personally would find not too tasty.

Regarding your room rate, keep checking to see if it moves down...if so, you can rebook at the lower rate. Our wonderful economy could exert downward pressure on hotel costs (but not airfares), although UO resorts are high end and some would argue are exempt from economic turmoil. I'd be shocked if the prices didn't move down between now and your trip.

Thanks for the help on flights. I am looking at Southwest out of Nashville to MCO. I haven't looked lately, but I usually just wait until my Southwest ding appears or i get an email from them. The hotel, again, istill haven't made the reservation.
On both above I always seem to wait in hopes that the rates come down. they usually don't and I end up paying too much.

It's easy to book a hotel and keep rechecking the rates. If they drop, you can always rebook and cancel the old ressie. If they go up, you know you've gotten the best price you could.
I do this with car rental very often. For our trip last Nov. I think I had made and canceled about 10 ressies. yes, I'm a little crazy. :upsidedow

You don't have to cancel if the rate drops and you want to stay at the same hotel. You can call and have them lower your rate to the current rate. If they have already taken your deposit and you cancel, they will refund your deposit to your credit card (which could take a little while) and charge you a deposit on your new ressie.

Major price drop on my next week's trip with the AP discount! :thumbsup2

I just switched my rate from the Super Saver rate to the Annual Pass Extra Value Weeks rate. My price dropped from $195 to $139 for May 14 and 15, and from $207 to $169 for May 16 and 17. My total price dropped from $904.50 to $693. Because this was booked with an AP rate, I do lose my Loewfirst benefits, but because this is an Extra Value Weeks rate, I do get the $150 savings book and 2 Simpsons t-shirts! I'm still staying at the RPR.

Thanks! I was looking at the annual pass website and noticed the link for hotel savings. I couldn't believe it when I put in my dates and saw the price drop, so I called Universal directly for confirmation. They confirmed it and applied the new rate to my reservation. I should receive the confirmation email in 24 to 48 hours.

I also wanted to add the I'm a Loewsfirst Gold member, but couldn't apply it to this new rate because its an Annual Pass rate.

So after reading about Patsters new rates at the RPR, I called about my rates that same weekend that we are there. Since we aren't staying for 3 or more nights, we didn't qualify for the super saver the AP special. So she asked me if she should look at the different hotels for a better rate (we were currently at the RPR, with AAA rate at $233 a night. She said hey, I ahve the HRH for $219 a night, AP rate, I said I'LL TAKE IT :cool1:

That's awesome. I originally wanted the HRH when I booked back in November, but there wasn't anything at the available at the time???

So, now we're at our Timeshare in Orlando for 7 days, then 3 days at the HRH, sweet, and it all starts this Friday the 9th :) :)

I just booked a room for $269 with AAA at Port. There were no vacancies at all at RPR. Is there a better discount for staying there more than one night?

I looked into the EP, but it would cost almost 1/2 the price of the room and I think it is only good for 1 day.

Thanks.

Usually rooms will magically appear when you plug in 3 or 4 nights or more. :confused3 And you can usually get the SuperSaver rate for 3 nights or more.... (IF they aren't sold out of rooms available at that rate ;) )

Portofino Club level for 4 nights (June 24-June 28) with the APH discount:

Thanks, Motherfletcher! The only thing that scares me is that when i made the reservation (and the operator was really helpful), she said there were only 4 club levels left for my dates, otherwise I would gladly do what you had said. Do you think I still would have a chance if I did it your way? If there was a remote chance, I would do it, but I hate to lose the club level. Thanks again. :goodvibes

What you could lose would be the Deluxe room. They could put you in a garden view. We have been upgraded to club from rooms other than those on club level. I think they have a cut off number but it is pretty high.

She did say that there were some Bay views left. I explained what I wanted to do, and she said there was a possibilty that it could or could not happen. She did explain the hotel was booking fast for my week of June 24. So, I gave in and put a deposit for the Club level at $329.00 per night plus tax.

my original booking was to include the entire package including taxes for Holiday December 27-January 1, 2009 at Portofino including ride tickets for all at Deluxe Club Level including taxes for $2322.07. (4 adult guests) After booking, the Universal site then said that it did not include club level just deluxe room. They then wanted to charge another $150 more per night ($759) for club perks. After some arguing on the part of my agent, then me calling the club # on the Universal site we were able to add club for another 61 per night for a grand total including taxes of $2628.51.

Still not what they originally stated, but way better than nothing.

Please don't tell me any different if this isn't a good deal:)

AAA rates don't usually go down....what might happen is another discounted rate may become available...or they'll announce AP rates.... usually the AAA rate you book with stays the same ;)

that usually can be the case but exceptions can happen.

3 years ago the AAA rate i had dropped for the time period i was booked for the HRH.

what happened was many rooms were cancelled out and the AAA dropped to help fill up the rooms.

i was lucky and caught that, and modified my rate due to the many cancellations at the last minute.

you can't always count on a AAA rate to drop, but it is possible.
doesn't hurt to check prior to leaving on your trip.
