Welcome to the 2008 DVC Member Cruise Meets Thread!
Mark and I will be happy to do the website again as well as DIS buttons for everyone. Here is the info we'll be looking for.
Send your info to member2008@monorailgreen.info
Dis name of anyone in your party that has one. We want at least one person from each group to be an active DIS member.
Real names of eveyone in your party and relationship (husband, wife, daughter, friend, etc.)
Cabin number(required only for the button - if you don't want it published we will honor that but we want to make sure the buttons get to you if you miss the meets)
Birthdays of everyone in your party
Anniversary date
Year you bought into DVC and where you own (for the buttons)
Early/late seating
Where you are staying the night before the cruise? (not for the grid on the web page but so we can try and coordinate a DIS meet the night before)
Button? yes or no (specify who is getting one- be detailed!)
Photo (.jpg or .gif please so we can get to "meet" you and your family)
The above is just a way for everyone to get to know each other before the cruise. If the group wants we can password protect the picture gallery page.
How much info you give is totally up to you. We only ask for the cabin numbers for the buttons so we don't get stuck with them and have no way to get them to you.
Also the buttons are at no cost to you. They are our gift to the group to help identify fellow DISers.
Here are the links for the main web page and member gallery:

I am booked too! Whoooo!
For those who got the cat6 for the add-on...I spoke to a guide regarding upgrading (my DH and dad want to come along next year) and was told to call on the 17th and I can put in for the upgrade. The guide said that the difference in price can be paid either in cash or in points.
We added on at AKV. The incentive was too good to pass up; so yes we are booked for the 9/21/08 Member Cruise already. That's good news about upgrading the room. I was thinking of a larger room or even taking one of our kids and their family along in another cabin like we did this year. We are really psyched to own at the AKV.

Does anyone know the key sequence to push to get thru to MS once they get thru on the phone number? I was thinking if people knew ahead of time they would be ready to push in those numbers once they got thru on the line.

MS opened early, at 9 am, last year for this year's cruise.

Yes and that morning there was no need for number pushing, you just got into queue. Also if you end up getting connected with youer cell phone, give the CM your cell number and they should call you back if dicsonected.

:cool1: I just remember that we will be on the Queen Mary 2 on Nov 17th so it's a good thing we got the incentive for the cruise for next year. Otherwise I would have to be put on a waitlist, and pay the $75 per reservation and hope that I got on. This way I know I am all set.

I am thinking about coming along. I actually have enough points to take a friend (or my sister) with some left over. I wasn't able to use many this year. It looks to be a lot of fun. Has anyone already been on one of these? What are they like? What kind of special events do they have? Are two days on Castaway Cay enough or too much? Sorry for all the questions; I am very interested.:wave2:

It depends on the schedule: In 2006 there wasn't enough to do if you were not an island person. This year it greatly improved with presentations and things to attend.

This year there were 2100 DVC'ers onboard.
yes, it is loads of fun and lots of do.
Different events each year.
Each year is a different theme - this year it was Disney Legends. It was fabulous and very informative. All the legends spoke to us in semilars.
We should be going to Castaway Cay twice next year also. Ar far as being too much or too little, that would be up to you.
Most people think twice is not too much. I, myself, don't stay in the sun but I still enjoy the Island and there is lots to do there.

the same thing happened to me. I realized afterwards that I would be onboard the Wonder again on the 17th and would not have been able to call in. And Linda is going to be on the Magic so she would not be able to call in either.
But it all worked out well.:cool1: :cool1:

I have a PRAYER LINE started for those calling in to get booked and hopefully get the accommodations they ask for.
AFter the thread gets going, I think it would be nice to try and have some shirts made for the group.
EVERYONE could give their thoughts and be a part of it.
NOT ONE PERSON SHOULD CONTROL THIS. Everyone should be a part of it.
I think it would be nice to have lanyards made up for us also. Have done this on past cruises and it has worked out very well.
All of this could be worked on after everyone gets booked.

It depends on the schedule: In 2006 there wasn't enough to do if you were not an island person. This year it greatly improved with presentations and things to attend.
As much as we like Castaway Cay I kindda wish they landed at another Island port (but not Nassau) for the first day and left Castaway Cay for the second shore day. I found that making the trip off the ship, and schlepping down to the beach, was too much for a second day for my husband and me. Also, I spend too much time avoiding sunburn at the beach and can't visualize doing that twice.
We attended the presentations and liked most of them very much. I noticed that many folks stayed on board and did not even venture to the beach on the second docking. Having planned activities for that day was a thoughtful touch that I guess Disney learned to do for their seasoned DVC cruisers (like us) but my kids and grandkids loved the beach.

After giving it a lot of thought, I think I just might try to get a cabin on this cruise. It sounds like this years cruise was a couple of steps up from last years, which was a bust, so I'm thinking about asking a friend from the 2006 to join me with her daughter, and taking just my youngest son.
I won't be able to call in on 11/17, as we're heading down to Florida going on a cruise the next day, so if we decide to go, it will be through the waitlist. I know of others who had success with it on the 2006 member cruise, so I have no doubt it will come through, if we decide we'd like to sail.

Another past member cruiser checking in. I was on 03, 05 and 06 and boycotted 07 because of the ridiculous booking procedure.
That said, we're on the fence for 08 now. At first I flat out said no, we're FL residents and can cruise twice for the price of this one cruise with a FL resident discount, but there's something about member cruises that sucks me right back in.
I was the coordinator for the Cafepress store for the SSMC06 shirts and that worked really well for that group, since Kay is recommending everyone being a part of the process, I'd suggest that again.
One other suggestion, another cruise I'm booked on has decided to compile all of our information into a Yahoo Group. It's working really really well and that way we (as a group) has control over who can/can't see the information we share within the group as far as cabin numbers, emails, etc. I have two little girls and the internet is a freaky place. :scared1:

We are also seriously considering doing this cruise. We were on the first DVC Member Cruise 2003 and that is where I bought my BCV points, so it is dangerous for me, LOL.

Wow great to see so many past Member Cruisers looking at doing 2008.
A few thoughts on some of the things discussed today:
T-shirts – we’ve had these on a number of cruises and they really do add to the unity of the group. We’ve had them done a number of different ways and I did like how quick and easy CafePress was. Not only for the t-shirts but also other things that could have the designs on them.
Lanyards – while I’ve seen some of them done for other groups and they seem like a great idea I’m not sure we need them for the Member Cruise since we get special ones from DVC.
Yahoo group – while I agree it works great for some things (the one for the circle journal from the 2006 Member Cruise works great) I would really hate to see the actual talk move from the DIS since the DIS is what brought us all together. As we mentioned to a number of people on the 2007 cruise if Mark and I get on we’d love to do the web page and buttons again since we’ve done the buttons for all the Member Cruises and have done the web page for the last 3. If the group wants we can make the member gallery portion password protected. We did that with our site for the 2004 10 day cruise but changed it going forward at the request of our fellow cruisers. As always however much anyone wants to share is up to them. We do require some things like room numbers but the option to not have them posted (and only used for delivery of buttons if the person doesn’t show up) is always there. Again whatever the group wants is fine.
Good luck to everyone who wants to get on whether it is in 2 weeks or via the waitlist.

Special tee shirts would be great. Either an individual can see that they are provided and a logo is agreed upon or Cafe Press or another company.
The idea of a special lanyard for the group, with the logo on them and the date would be awesome. The lanyards that are provided are thick (and no dates on them or reference to the specific cruise) and I don't think I have ever worn them due to the thickness. The sideways ones don't hold the KTTC, as they come out.
The long plastic holders are much better. I think the thin ones are so much nicer and you don't even feel them around your neck.
As for the buttons, I don't care for them. That is my own opinion. The past ones I don't even know where they are. The pin portion makes holdes in your shirts and it is always there when washed. But then again, that is my opinion. The lanyards can be used over and over.
Whereas I do have the special lanyards and have them in my TV/Disney room and I see the dates for the special cruises I have taken. It is a nice rememberance.
Whether we have a gallery or not doesn't really matter. We still can have the DIS meets and get togethers and have a great time.
If the majority wants to go to a Yahoo group, that is fine with me. The thread for the cruise can continue, as it has started and new cruisers can join when they want.
I can also go to the first page, first post, and start listing the names and different parties the ages of the children there. That way a new site would not have to accessed each time. I started it a little if you want to take a look. It would be very easy and quicker for Linda to do the Mini-Navigator for us.
We can also list our activities there - everything would be on one thread.
OK - my thoughts - but we'll just have to wait and see what happens on Nov. 17th.
My prayer line is getting a little longer now.

Those lanyards sound like a great idea. Personally, I never liked the ones Disney gave out because you can't actually put you KTTW in them. On SSMC05 I had my drivers license and my KTTW card in it and was walking on the top deck. A gust of wind came and tossed both out and they went sliding across, I though for sure they'd go overboard!! Plus, the girls would be able to actually wear the lanyards, even at 4 and 5 next year, I can't say I'm thrilled with the idea of them with pins. :scared1:

I thought you were going to say they blew overboard.:scared1:
Now that you bring it up, Linda and I were talking about that in Nasssau while walking around.
It was either hers or mine that feel out when we bent over to pick up something.
It would not have been fun had either one of us lost our KTTW, CC and DL.
In the Promende Lounge one morning I found a KTTW and CC and turned it into the desk. That was on the last CC morning.

Well, if you guys would prefer lanyards to buttons, that's cool. I will still offer buttons for anyone who does want them, as they're very easy for me to make now, takes all of an evening or two to run off the whole batch. Usually takes longer to get the actual list of buttons to make together than actually doing them now.
As for the rest? I'm quite good with whatever you all want to do.
We're going, even if we have to go outside our usual cabin choices or even waitlist, as each and every year DVC has brought a panel of guests from good to fantastic, and each and every cruise I've had a great time at all their presentations.
But, for now, our focus is first to get in on callin day, then the April 7-day Eastern we're sailing on in '08.
And don't forget, a few pages back there's two siggie images for everyone to use :)

I don't think there was any discussion as to one w/o the other one. Lanyards hang around your neck and buttons pin on.
The thin lanyards are much better than the thick member lanyards that are given out. And the plastic holder is a better item than the sideways plastic holder. That discussion has been on other threads also.
But an individual can better be identified with a lanyard as opposed to a small round button.
Everyone has their own individual preference and that is good to discuss it.

yep, the thick lanyards you need for pin trading. The thin ones don't work too well for that.

I'm sorry Mark, but you're coming across to me as a tad confrontational, I certainly hope this thread isn't going to go that way when other people step up and give their suggestions/opinions. I didn't say anything about one or the other either, just that I liked the idea of the lanyards, and the pins are dangerous to give to my children.

*shrug* Not at all, that post was meant to be quite the opposite, actually. I'm totally cool with whatever ends up being what people want. :)
Btw, they don't have to be pin-back buttons for the little ones, there's plenty of other choices, including button on a lanyard, here, have a look.
http://www.badgeaminit.com/214buttonparts1.html
I could even assemble them without the pin and instead put a small ziptie thru so you could loop it on a custom made lanyard. There's certainly options that don't include a pointy pin. The only thing I am is a teeny bit surprised at is that after the literally thousands I've made, including for all the past member cruises, this is the first time anyone's mentioned that issue to me. Glad it came up though, as I can see where that could be a problem for the kids.

I think Karen and I are hoping to get onto this cruise also - I will be in Calif when it's call in time so I hope she can do the calling this time around - we are a bit hooked on cruising! LOL.
Oh I am so glad to hear this! Hope we end up sailing together... :)

We are also seriously considering doing this cruise. We were on the first DVC Member Cruise 2003 and that is where I bought my BCV points, so it is dangerous for me, LOL.
After we get a couple of items ironed out, we will give the official YAY! Hoping to decide by end of this weekend. :)

Clocks changed here. That extra hour of sleep felt good!
Have a great time on your cruise this month. Seems like quite a few of us will be on the high waters that week.
Kay are you sailing over Thanksgiving as well?
I just realized, we leave 2 weeks from today. Holy cow, this trip is sneaking up on me. :woohoo:
This thread sure jump started in the last 24 hours. Glad to see many are thinking of booking.
I love the idea of lanyards. :thumbsup2
On the 2005 & 2006 cruises, we did a lot of fun stuff. Some of them I use daily, like the magnet board from last cruise. I also enjoyed the scrapbook goodie bag exchange, we did as part of Linda's scrapbooking class, although I have to be honest and say that the class, while wonderful, just didn't fit in with all the events planned.
I'm sure we can think of some great idea for this cruise as well.

I will be on the Wonder on 11/16 (b/day present for my 4 YO g/baby
and then again on 11/25.
The best part is that I'll be back on the Wonder on 12/9 w/my youngest DD and my youngest G/baby - 13 mos.
For the 12/9 cruise we have my favorite room, 8102 - Cat 3. Aft and huge balcony 1/4 way around the aft. We have a pretty big DIS meet in the room set up and I believe there are about 35 people that will be there. Should be lots of fun on that one.
Are you gonna be on one of the Disney ships or another one??
Whichever ship, the holidays are wonderful for traveling. Hope you meet lots of great people onboard.
Linda will be on the Magic for Thanksgiving w/her DH, DD and her DD's friend. They are going to have an awesome time on that cruise.
We can all yell to each other across the waters. :rotfl:
Funny thing, Harry and I had a 5 gallon empty water jug that we put money in for many years. That is the money that I am taking some of these cruises with. It sure added up and I was surprised when it was all counted.
Now I must start all over again. :thumbsup2

Whichever ship, the holidays are wonderful for traveling. Hope you meet lots of great people onboard.
We are sailing on Royal Caribbeans Mariner of the Seas. I'm anxious to see how the ship compares to the Disney ship. I know my kids are looking forward to the other activities they have on board which Disney doesn't offer as my boys are really not into the Disney characters - ice skating, rock wall climbing, in-line skating, Johnny Rockets. If our youngest was a little taller, we might have switches over to the Freedom of the Seas as that ship has the FlowRider, which both of our boys wanted to try, but the youngest isn't quite tall enough...yet. ;)
Best yet, we are already traveling with our friends - Gail & John. Gail posts as #1mouse here on the DIS. And John is the one Linda said referred to her as "sea-slaughter". We have cabins next to each other, so it should be fun to see each other as we're going on our way every day & then meeting up for dinner (or maybe between).
I know we will have a blast! We are looking forward to a longer cruise, new ports and excursions and just spending time with new & old friends.

Mark--I LOVE the buttons! Because after I wear mine the whole cruise I add it into my shadow box with my SS Member Cruise stuff that I get. Used to put in my scrapbook, but then moved to a 12 x 12 shadowbox with the little mementos we got. They are in those hanging in my living room!
Also-I LOVE the member gallery. Even though I don't look at it often enough, it is great to look at the pictures so I can try to remember names and faces (kinda) before we cruise.
Okay, those are my thoughts!

Yep, it kinda feels funny not doing a scrapbook class on the member cruise anymore. I agree, I decided that there just wasn't any time to squeeze in the class unless we wanted to do it at 6 a.m. one morning. And me, being from the west, 6 a.m. just doesn't work in my schedule very well. I'm doing good to get up at 8 a.m.
I like everyone's different ideas and stuff for the upcoming cruise. One of the first things I learned from doing the scrapbook class was that as soon as we started, someone (many, in fact) would take my original idea and then change it to what would work for them. First thing I learned: DON'T GET OFFENDED!
Anyway, with that said, I am more than happy to do the mini-navigators for next year's cruise. Of course, I am sure someone would like something different or added from how I do it. I am always willing to take suggestions, advice and criticism. This last cruise was the first time I but the pictures of the stateroom floors in and added the list at the end with the staterooms by number. I felt doing that helped me deliver to FE's easier with that in my hand, but if someone has a better idea, let me know.
Okay, I'm at work. Gotta get a trial balance done today before the auditors show up tomorrow. And I have now spent that extra "hour" on the boards!:confused3

That is the wonderful thing about longer cruises - more down time to do things as a DIS group. I loved the scrapbook class Linda did for us on the 10 day cruise on a sea day. While the one of the '05 Member Cruise was just as fun and I enjoyed the scrapbook swap it seemed more rushed as there were other things going on. On the 2007 cruise there always seemed to be something happening and very little down time. We even cut our visits to CC short both days to get back and cleaned up for some 3 pm presentations.
Linda I loved the mini navs you did and I'm glad that the colored deck plans were a help. Like I said we're willing to do all that again if that is what the group wants and if not we're fine with that too.
Shirts, lanyards, buttons, and anything else the group can think of. Bottom line is for the DIS group to have fun and plan for a great cruise.

WELL ------------- don't think it is going to happen. They will be the cost of another person going on the cruise with us !!! :confused3
Just too expensive for the amount that would be needed.
I was trying to do something new for the group - but I'll just have to do something else.
I'll keep wearing my lanyard from the '05 Panama Canal cruise or the 11 day from last September. My 'ol faithfuls. LOL
Maybe someone could come up with a shirt idea

Actually is a DIS decision to not allow the phone#.
Just a little background on the MS phone number. We found out a lot of "point-renters" were getting from our website. They were tying to use it to get thier reservations changed, make room request, verify reservations. Some were not very nice to the CMs. That is why we decided to filter it.

Mark - please add me to the Button list.
While I think lanyards are cool, I have way too many. Last cruise we were given 3 different types over the course of the cruise. They just get thrown in the luggage to be taken home. I don't do pin trading, so I don't wear them. Great idea though for those who do.

And we've had a zip file of disney fonts up on the website including the script one she used, you can find it here: Fonts (http://monorailgreen.info/DisneyFonts.zip)
To install it, open the downloaded file in one window, and open 'my computer' on your desktop in another window and browse to hard disk c, then into the windows folder. Question about booking with cash and points. Can you choose what people you want to pay with points and cash? For example I would like to pay cash for one adult and one child and pay for points for one adult and one child, will they allow this or do they dictate where the points have to go to?
MarkRG
11-05-2007, 12:54 PM
You dictate everything, not them. The only thing they dictate is that it is a member doing the booking. Beyond that any combination of cash or points is entirely up to you.

11-05-2007, 01:03 PM
In 2005 I used points for one of us and cash for the other. It worked out pretty good.
The point system isn't too bad for next year. If I were paying this year, I would do cash again, tho.

Thanks everyone! :thumbsup2
My husbands work is paying for his portion of the cruise since he has worked with them for 10 years that is his little bonus. Actually they are giving him a 5 day cruise for 2, but since through Carnival that is only about $850, we asked if we could just take the cash and apply it to the Member cruise. So that leaves only 3 of us to pay for. And since we JUST got back from the cruise I haven't exactly saved up another 2G to drop in 2 weeks, so points and cash it is.
So for the 4 of us it will cost us 224 points and $676 in cash. Not to shabby I think. I have to borrow 09's points so I don't think I can transfer them to anybody for cash just yet. Although that would be ideal because then I wouldn't have to have any cash out of pocket.
So if anyone knows if you can move 2009 points in 2 weeks or less, let me know!

Thanks Mark! I'm not very techinical when it comes to stuff like that. All I know is that when I typed in Waltograph under a google search, that I found the website and then somehow miraculously figured out how to get it on my computer. It's my favorite font!

No problemo, Waltograph by itself may have some kind of installer that does it for you- the file I linked is about a half dozen fonts including Waltograph, Epcot's including the original symbols for all the locations, Haunted Mansion's, and a number of other Disney oriented ones. I tossed that together and put it up on the site a number of cruises back to help with making doorsigns.

under 3 $227
Thanks for posting this over here Robin! Do you happen to know if other DCL rules apply, for example a room with one adult and one child under 12 will still require prices for two adults in the room?
And, the single supplemental price for one adult occupying a room alone?
Thanks...
WDWLVR
11-06-2007, 09:10 AM
Well I'm not Robin :) but from what I've heard all the same rules apply.
First two people in the room are charged as adults even if they aren't and that there is a single supplement charged for a person traveling solo.

DUH - sorry about that. I would guess it is the same as a regular cruise but to be honest I don't know what that is either. I know we had a gentleman on the 2006 cruise who cruised solo. Or maybe Kay can help because I think she's booked solo.

I am pretty much positive that the supplement is 1.75%.
So it would be 1/2 of what two people are and then 1.75% more.
I did ask that already myself

Thanks Robin! I was going to ask if anyone had gotten the cash prices yet. My dad wants to come with us next year so we were thinking we would upgrade from the cat6 room we got with the add-on up to a cat 4. I was told we could do this by paying the difference in cash and it looks like it is not that much of a difference at all. Now to luck out and get it on call in day.

Good morning everyone!
Dan - nice to see you so excited! That will help with calling in.
Robin - I always thought that the itinerary was CC-Sea-CC. I don't remember seeing anything with Nassau. CC-Nassau-CC was what we did on the very first Member Cruise back in 2003 (or should I clarify the first dedicated Member Cruise). :)

I know they left a voice mail on our phone on the cruise saying they announced the dates and back by popular demand would be two stops at CC, so I assume it is going to follow the same CC-sea-CC day.
Oh and for anyone who has done cash and points for the cruise. How do you figure travel insurance. I got it last year, not though Disney but through another site and I paid all cash last year so it was easy to calculate the value. How do you do it if you use a combo of cash and points???

Is the 2007 members cruise board staying intact or are we going to use the 2008 board? I think we should use the 2008 board and let members be aware of the new board.

Each individual is insured, so if they are cruising on points, then the return on the travel insurance would cover $5 per point (not much). The person cruising on cash would fall under their cash guidelines. There will be a brochure in with your cruise ressie confirmation and you can give them a call with questions. They are the only company (Travelguard) that insures on DVC points I am told.
krdisneybound
11-07-2007, 07:50 AM
when you call about the insurance, whichever company, they'll ask you the value of the cruise. The points they figure at $5.00 a point and then the cash value will be what the cash price you paid. Did that make sense to 'ya??
In any event, the company will figure it out for you. Still comes out to about the cash value of the cruise.
Actually the one time that I paid cash and points is the only time I got trip insurance. Worked out well for us. I collected from my private insurance company plus the trip insurance company.
It just so happens that my personal insurance pays for my medical anywhere I am in the World.
NOW - it might not pay for me to be air lifted out of an Island somewhere.
BUT then again, the company (individuals) that does most of the air lifting from the Islands, is a very good friend of the family and they'd probably give me a break, if I ever needed it.
That runs anywhere between 20K and 30K. Very good business.

Kay - GMTA!! LOL!
I purchased travel insurance from AAA for my Med cruise last summer. I was not insuring my points for the trip, however. I figure if something happened, I would eat whatever the penalty.
My air fares were covered via my credit card company, so we ended up purchasing just Medical, luggage and delay coverage from AAA. Very cheap and worth having for the "just in case". The medivac always scares me - it runs about $40K basic to med flight someone off the ship, yikes. Saw it done on CC once on one of my cruises. Scary...

PDFG goes back to our December 2004 cruise. We sailed with a gentleman name Garry (the G). Our group sailed again in May of '06 but Garry couldn't join us because he's awaiting a liver transplant. We used to do a silly thing on those threads of celebrating who got a top page so we decided that every time one of us got a top we'd edit it to say PDFG or Pixie Dust For Garry to get him to the TOP of the transplant list. Then as other friends needed some pixie dust we added "and all our friends who need it".
One really cool thing that happened on our May '06 cruise was that we were able to have Don "Ducky" Williams do a drawing of Tinkerbell with PDFG on it for Garry. That's why I love the DIS boards so much - getting to meet and connect with people.

My 13 year old will be home but I can tell you from experience on two past member cruises that the kids make friends very quickly. Our oldest met kids that he still talks about today. I was a little hesitant to allow him to have checking in & out priviledges, but it worked great as we'd find him either in the cabin, a note left for us, or we'd run into him.
On the last cruise, we were sitting in Palo having brunch as our son walked by with a boy he had met in the club. It was kind of nice to be able to snoop on what he was up to without even trying. :rotfl2:
I am personally still deciding about this cruise, but if we go, it will be me and my 8 year old as we've been talking about doing a mom-son trip for a while now. I haven't mentioned the idea to either of the kids yet, for fear of one gloating and one being disappointed. Although my oldest doesn't have any room to complain as we've done a couple trips just the two of us, so it really is time for our youngest to have a trip by himself.
I will need to get on the waitlist as we'll be leaving for vacation on 11/17. I don't have any concerns that a cabin will come available, as it seems the waitlist has been successful for others.

One cabin, whatever we can get, in this order: 7,6,5,8-12 though sofar we havn't had to go thru more than one choice. :)

DCL has the CC number on file and if you don't give it to them, they look it up.
It really isn't anything "that you use".
After your first cruise, then the repeat cruise they put one gift in your room and it is there the day you board.
If I am wrong, please correct me. Maybe there is something I don't know or

This past member cruise was our first cruise ever so I really am not sure what the Castaway Club does besides give us a different line to check-in with, and a few extra days ahead to book excursions.

My DD and I will also be trying to book this cruise. I just joined DVC last month and am so excited about it! We've never been on the Wonder, because 4 nights is just too short. But for the Member cruise it'll be worth it.
My DD will be 10 on Sept 21st, so I am trying for a Cat 3. If I can't get the suite, then we'll probably just do a cat 8 or 9 outside.

Idon't known if i told anybody but when we got back to OKW from the cruise nac and I started talking and wondering if they would offer the same points deal here so we we over to Saratoga Spings too the office to ask. Jenna our club rep said yes so we bought 110 and got the 100 bonus points.

I was wondering about that. What do they do with the Cat 1s and 2, did they give them with prizes from the 2007 cruise? :confused3 Not that I'd need/want a 2 bdrm suite, but if we can get the 3 I will definitely be happy!

The two Cat 1's, the Walt and Roy Disney suites, get used by DVC to host private parties and such. I'd suspect the 2's are used for the guests they bring.

Not sure if this is true for all the DVC cruises but I know in the past some of the Cat 3's were used by DVC marketing staff. Not to give them better accomodations but because they used them as kind of command centers for the cruise. Also because those rooms have more storage it helped with things as well. Of course that was the cruise that DVC was actually selling their product (shirts, etc.) and would use the rooms for storage when the sales table wasn't set up.

OK - I HAVE JUST TOTALLY LOST MY MIND -----------------
I have the cruise before the Member Cruise booked, plus the Member Cruise and the one after the Member Cruise. The way it ends up, the three cruises are only costing me about $800 after my cash rebate cards and my onboard credits.
So it looks like CC for me 4 times in a week. Now how bad can that be??
So, is that a B2B x 2???
I think my DD's will end up taking my computer and phones away from me.
I worked a bake sale at the hospital this morning for almost 5 hours. That was very interesting. I ended up buying a whole plate of brownies and took them to my friends at the post office. They were in heaven when I left.

The show was actually planed before the passing of Mr. Osmond, Sr. last week and the family got together and decided to continue with the show anyways. The service for Mr. Osmond, Sr. was early in the day and then they went to the studio for taping. It was a celebration of Mr. Osmond, Sr.'s life.

No, haven't seen Wicked before. Get on the plan in about 5 hours and headed to California and will see it tonight. I am excited! But I need to finish cleaning, doing laundry, packing, and my daughter has me pulling out the Christmas stuff so she can decorate while I am gone.
My daughter Jamie does play the piano, but she actually is a singer/dancer. Has been taking lessons since she was 3 in dancing and since she was 6 in singing. She has performed all over the place. She would be performing for Suzuki at some huge car race in Japan and then I guess Suzuki owns some kind of entertainment thing over there and she would be performing 3 times a day over there. It would be a small group of kids from here that have been chosen to perform over there. Jamie has done alot of local theater, and she has done some background acting in movies (including High School Musical that was filmed here in Salt Lake.) This weekend she is gone because she is dancing for a program called Art with Heart where they raise money for the Shriner's Hospital here in Salt Lake.
Okay, work to do. I'll be back home Tuesday night. Hopefully I can read the boards while I am gone!

not sure how the transfers work, as I have never had to or taken the transfers.
I do know that ANY CHANGES whatsoever in the ressie after made, there is a $75. fee.
If you use points and then decide to pay cash or visa versa, the charge of $75. goes into effect.

there are definitely better incentives if you purchase on the Member Cruise.
I am not "totally" certain, but I think one DVC member has to be in each of the staterooms that a member books.
Say, if you are a member, you can't book 3, 4 or more rooms, unless a DVC member is in each room.
Someone will chime in and correct me, if I am incorrect

the incentives this year were awesome.
Besides the cruise for next year for 2 in a Cat 6, outside stateroom veranda, there were many more that were more valuable that we got than the cruise.

Our rooms will be assigned on Thursday and since I won't be home to get their phone call, I'll be calling from the ship before we leave Port to see what our Stateroom number will be.
I just called MS to make sure, and according to Reggie you just need one DVC member per each 3 cabins. Also he said that DCL transfers will be available to be booked on a cash basis.

yes - it will be on Deck 6.
We actually were told we could have 6154 or 6654 - which is the large hdcp. room - aft - with a balcony which is 1/2 way around the back. My friends were in that room on the Panama Canal cruise and we had a big party there with the Customs Inspector guy from Panama. It was awesome.
And we will either stay in that room for the B2B or either move to 6147 or 6647 - the hdcp rooms at the end of the hallway. They are very large rooms.
As far as space in my suitcase for next week, I did have room until I invited my youngest step - granddaughter to go with us. She is 22 and she is one of Kaitlyn's daycare teachers at the Church.
Maybe next time Nac
I'll be going back up on 11/25 for a 4 day. That one I am going solo, so there will definitely be room for that one. :yay:

We will be doing late seating.
And for the poster who had asked about how many rooms can be booked, I am not sure if it has been answered yet or not but listed on the member website under the 2008 Member cruise information it states:
"There is a three stateroom limit per Member household."
Hope that helps.

We like the late seating dinner, but sometimes it feels rushed because of the events happening after wards. But we will ask for late anyway.
Hope every one has a great weekend and only 12 more days until TDAY and 13 until the biggest shopping day of the year. Please send pixie dust for us retail workers on that day. Please also remember: we only work there and try our best to please every customer.

Greetings from Nancy. We prefer the 6:00 seating. We were booked for late seating this last time but were switched to early. Not sure if it was because of Joanne's efforts or because we were on a waiting list anyway. We find eating so late is not good for us..... It's a cold windy day here in Maine but we still got out for a walk this morning. I'm still working on the 5 1/2 lbs I gained on the cruise!.... Our grandson's team lost their FB game so now we move on & focus on hockey with another GS. And maybe basketball with another. Keeps us very busy!.... Happy Vets Day to all.

HAPPY VETERAN'S DAY EVERYONE.
I am very fortunate to have my son home with us after 3 tours in Iraq. He has been home about a month now and over joyed that he does not have to go back.
But even tho our family doesn't have a loved one fighting in the war zones at this time, my prayers and thoughts go out to those familes who do have loved ones away from them.
And for those who have fought for our Country previously.
Hope everyone has a great evening.
I know first hand how emotions can get to you.

Mark -
I just saw your pictures on the trip report board and they were great. It really brings back memories!!
Now I have a question about Palo. We didn't make it because by the time we could book it was all full and we didn't rush once we got on the ship. This next one we would really like to try.
What is brunch like? What kind of food do they serve and how is the pricing?
Do they do brunch everyday (aside from embarking and disembarking)?
Thanks!
6 more days and I will know for sure if we are going!!

Brunch at Palo is fantastic! They only offer it on sea days so on the Member Cruise only one day.
Cost is $10 per person and it includes on glass of champagne per person(and then room to add a gratuity). It is a combination of buffet and ordered food. Your server will take you on a tour of what is available on the buffet portion. It includes cold cuts, fruit, pastries (I love the Stollen bread with whipped cream), seafood (jumbo shrimp, crab legs, etc.). You also have the option of ordering one of a number of pizzas. In addition your server will take an order for a breakfast selection (pancakes, omlets, eggs benedict, etc.) or a lunch selection (filet, fish, etc.) Of course if you want both breakfast and lunch you can do that as well. There is also a wonderful dessert selection.
Hope that helps.

Wow, $10 seems like a deal! So I have been doing some reading and it looks like if I don't make it on the 75 days out booking, head right to wavebands to see if I can get in.
Is there a dress code for brunch?

Well now that you have cruised Disney before you can book it at the 90 day mark!
If you don't make it online however yes you head to Wavebands (or wherever they are doing Palo reservations on boarding day) and try and get in that way.
As for a dress code. Cruise casual. Dockers and polos are fine for guys, capris, pant suits or sundresses for ladies. No shorts and no jeans.

We did Palo's brunch for the first time this past cruise (Mary and Mark were at the table behind us). There was so much on the buffet, I wished that I hadn't gotten something made to order. It was worth the extra money. We tipped extra because the service is so good. One note though: if you order a specialty coffee there is an extra charge. Amanda had an espresso and we didn't know that wasn't included with the meal, but it was only around $4. I think everyone should try Palo's at least once. I think I want to try dinner on the 08 cruise.
Mark- I loved those pictures and cannot wait for the next one.

Good morning everyone!
Annette you do remember that you had dinner at Palo back in 2005 don't you? I know you did because we ate dinner with you! :) The chocolate souffle at dinner is wonderful. I still prefer brunch and we'll be trying to get that again on the 2008 cruise.

I much prefer Brunch over Dinner. Try not to miss any dinners in the dining rooms in case something special is going on. Sometimes we don't know ahead of time.
This year's Brunch was crazy with the Space Shuttle going off. We walked outside to see it and when we came back our table was cleaned off and we specifically said we'd be right back, leave the food here. No big deal - I know we could have ordered again, but just didn't do it. We were mostly finished.
What bothers me is that some people can't get reservations and then each and every time I have gone for Brunch, there are 1/2 of the tables empty. It is possible that they save tables for special VIPs onboard also for whenever they decide they want to go.
I STILL LUV THE BRUNCH........................

I think they might leave some open for that. We ended up having brunch next to X. Atencio and his wife but didn't realize it was them until we went to the presentation later that afternoon. We had a 10 am reservation at Palo and the room was pretty empty but started filling up as our brunch went on. I was thinking that because everything is made to order in that small kitchen (as opposed to the large ones for the other resturants) that they stagger when people come to give them the best service. So empty tables early and later but maybe pretty full right at the height of brunch. I think this also helps with the flow of those going up to the buffet.

Mary, I forgot about that!! That was a great night. First we went to the cocktail party in the Walt Disney suite and then dinner at Palo's with Jim Lewis and others that are now our friends. We didn't know about Dis then.

It horrid when the land line doesn't work. My youngest DD doesn't have a land line and when she doesn't answer her cell phone, I go wacky.
I just think she should have a phone at home. Oh well, I'm just the Mom :confused3

Didn't have a good Sunday or today.
I am pretty sure I had food poisoning from some tuna salad I ate at the hospital on Sunday around Noon.
Thought it was my gall bladder acting up and was scared to death that the cruise was not going to happen this week. Just can't disappoint my 4 YO g/daughter and call it off.
I did take some strong pain pills and that made me even sicker. Was not a fun thing to go through.
Am just resting today and doing nothing at all.
Do feel much better now.
Hope everyone got the day off.
