It's going to be in the low 50's here on Sunday. I can't wait.
I hate the snow, I just wish I could find a good IT job somewhere in Florida. Life would be great then! :woohoo:
There are always IT jobs in the paper- but the pay here in the panhandle stinks compared to the rest of the world. Price you pay for living at the beach.

Can I steal Amanda's pirate since she is my sister? I would have kept posting this morning, but I had to go to work.
It's going to in the 40's here on Sunday. In our area that is a heat wave. Yesterday at the grocery store they had tulips and all I could think of was spring.
It's ESPN weekend at DHS. We should be there!
Have a great night everyone. Gary & family enjoy your vacation.

Robin - sent you a PM with the ressie info for Karen and me.
Leaving town again on Wednesday - going on another non-Disney cruise with Karen and Carol (my cruisemates from our Hawaii cruise last fall) - sure do hope the weather does me some good. This winter has really taken it's toll on me and I can't spend too much time on the computer because it can be painful to type sometimes - the dr is trying a different med on me to help but says the trip should do me a world of good.
I'll try and check up on the plans when I can.

Good morning all,
Robin I just pm'd you our res #. If we need to double up to get more folks in feel free to use ours.
Dan, I was post # 2000.
I was a winner at Bunco last night a big $30.00. But I was not good at the diet thing. Didn't have any meat but sure had some Pina Colada's and desserts!!!!! I guess I better go for a real long walk today.
It is going to be a nice sunny day here today.
Have a great Saturday.

Dan - maybe I can help with the pirate thing. Every post has a number assigned to it in the upper right hand corner. Well in the pirate game as Gary explained it every 100th post gets a pirate and some larger mileston posts (lke the 1000th and 2000th get even more). So if you are the poster who posts the 2100th post on this thread (our next pirate milestone) you get a pirate!
Just a fun little game to play as we are planning the cruise. Mark has two honorary pirates in his signature given to him by Tina and Robin but I don't think Gary has that in his official count. I hope I explained that well enough.

Weather forecast for the southern Caribbean looks pretty good-Mary's achy bones should be happy.:cool1:
We're heading down to OKW Wed for 2 nights there before flying down to San Juan for 1 day there pre-cruise . Looking forward to the Pirate and Princess Party on the 6th. pirate: princess:
We'll be back at OKW for 3 nights to relax after 1 night in San Juan post-cruise. There's only 1 sea day on our sailing, so we'll be kind of busy on the cruise. The 3 days back at our "home" should help ease us back to reality ;)

No problem.
We are trying to link our reservations together so that we can be considered a "Grand Gathering." By doing this we will be able to book the International Dinner and Illuminations Dessert Reception on the Saturday before we cruise. See page 127 post #1895 for details and price for the dinner. In addition to this, it sounds like we can also get special merchandise too.

Is anyone up for the Grand Gathering character breakfast at Tony's before we board the ship, IF it's available??? It looks like it would be a great kick-off to the cruise.

Start the morning with Tony, the proprietor from "Lady and the Tramp," at his Tony's Town Square Restaurant for a fun-filled breakfast with plenty of Character. Mingle with Mickey while you enjoy the delicious dishes of an all-you-can-eat breakfast. Then sing and dance with your Disney pals or talk to them tableside. Tony will be happy to recognize birthdays and special occasions along with a special serenade of "Bella Notte" for anniversaries. After breakfast, take Tony up on his invitation to visit Mickey's PhilharMagic, one of the most popular attractions in Magic KingdomŪ Park, for reserved seating at the very next show. Theme park admission is required.
Price:
Adults and Juniors - $29.99, Children (ages 3-9) - $17.99 (available 180 days prior)

That might be a good idea for some but we would not be doing that. It would be a waste of a day's pass for us who don't have annual passes. Also I think we might be a bit rushed because that's the morning we have to have our luggage ready for the cruise and the bus transportaion. So we will be eating breakfast at our resort.

We'll have to pass. Sun morning will be Mass for me. We'll then probably have a leisurely breakfast before heading over to the port, hopefully arriving around noon. Usually we rent a car at the airport (Avis or Budget) and then drop it off at the port. It's more economical than DCL transfers. We'll then pick up a car at the port when we get off the ship and return it to the airport when we head home.
danandnan
03-02-2008, 09:58 AM
Hi Karen.
How far is it from the place you drop off the rental car to the terminal? Is it an easy process? How much is it per day? In the past we have used DCL bus but as you say that is expensive. We aren't renting a car at the airport but we are considering renting one at the resort for the day over to port & then again for the day back to BCV. Might be a more economical deal. We are using Magical Express from airport & back.

Avis and Budget have offices near the Port Canaveral and offer free shuttle service form the port to the office. Their offices near WDW are on Hotel Plaza Blvd (Avis at Hilton and Budget at the Doubletree). I've never spent more than $50 for a 1 day rental.

Karen thanks for the info on car rentals. We were trying to help Dan and Nancy on the phone yesterday but we had only rented at the airport. We knew Alamo was at the Dolphin but didn't know if they offer shuttles at the port. It sounds like Avis or Budget are the ways to go.
Dan - it was great talking to you and Nancy. Hope you enjoy the warm weather and sunshine we had yesterday. It is the least we can do is send that to you since we send you all that snow. :)

Karen, How do you get from your Disney hotel to the car rental office at the Hilton or Doubletree or is it close enough to some of them to walk? Also, why do it this way versus renting at the airport for 24 hours?

How do I get the member cruise logo on here. I tried but failed.
If you mean the one in my signature the details are on the website:
To add this logo to your signature, just cut and paste this line into your UserCp:
[ img ]http://www.wdwinfo.com/photopost/data/500/36347sailinga.gif[ /img ]
Just need to close up the gaps in the IMG brackets. If you are looking for the animated one just click on it, grab the properties and do the same thing.
WDWLVR
03-03-2008, 02:31 PM
Joanne you might also want to re-arrange your signature a bit to allow for the graphic. Maybe listing your past cruises more horizontally instead of vertically.

Almost forgot to answer this as we were getting close and I didn't want to steal the pirate away from someone else.
Most of the storms missed us. At least the snow part. It was grey and dreary all day with rain but that's fine with me. Still cold enough that I stayed in for lunch...no walks at the beach for me. I might be in better shape if I lived down by you and could walk every day at lunch. Hopefully spring will be here soon and I can do more lunchtime walking. He took me to Tony's for dinner on Sat. night and then went to both Epcot and the Magic Kingdom on Sunday. We stayed in a one bedroom Concierge level room this time at AKV and it was soooo nice. Karen, How do you get from your Disney hotel to the car rental office at the Hilton or Doubletree or is it close enough to some of them to walk? Also, why do it this way versus renting at the airport for 24 hours?
I always rent at the airport and have a car for my entire WDW stay whether it's 1 day or several.
I think Nancy said they were using DME and only wanted to rent the car for the trip to the port.
National/Alamo have offices on site at WDW but I think you have to take a cab from their office near the port.
Avis and Budget may offer shuttle service to the offices in the hotels near Downtown Disney.

Morning all. I am back home :confused3 . Don't know how that happened.
Really enjoyed the little mini 3 night cruise. Too short! Hercules has already been loaded off the ship  so I didn't get to see it one last time. They had All About the Story on the first night. Toy Story premieres on the March 20th cruise. It will be the final night of the cruise for the 3 night. THey say it is going to be the best show ever. The new cast was on and in rehearsals. Old cast gets off the ship on the 20th. So, totally whole new cast.
Cruise was great. Now back at the office and buried under the middle of the Girl Scout cookie sale and starting to track all that $$$ coming in.
Okay, so I'll check back in soon. I did get to eat dinner with Ashley and Karen from the UK who have been on past member cruise and we had a really nice dinner. Went to the buffet over at Fort. Wilderness in the back where the hoop de doo is. Never been there. It was pretty fun. Guess I need to go to the Hoop de doo sometime.
Talk to you soon.

Welcome back Linda,
Any new food items? How was the weather?
New menu items in Palo's! I did eat in Palo's the first night and it was wonderful.
The weather was COLD in Florida. I got there right at the end of the cold spell they were having. Once we left port and headed south it started warming up. I never got off the ship in Nassau but read out at the pool all day in the shade. A couple of times I got up and went and sat by the pool to warm up because there was a breeze that once in a while got a little cool.
At Castaway Cay, my plan was to spend the whole day on the adult beach. I got there at 9:30 and then did my cabana massage at 10 a.m. I stayed on the adult beach, had lunch and then headed over to the family beach about 1p.m. It was quite breezy on the adult beach and the breeze was cool, but the sun was out and it was warm (except for the darn wind!)
I moved over to the family beach, found a quiet spot and read most of the afternoon until it was time for the DVC celebration back on board at 3 p.m. The family beach was very nice, they don't get the wind like they do at Serenity Bay.
By the time we came back in Sunday, it had warmed up and was real nice.
A great, relaxing trip!

We stayed one night at the Animal Kingdom last Thanksgiving in one of the new 2 bedroom units with a savannah view after being on the Magic for Thanksgiving. We loved it. Just enjoyed sitting on the verandah and watching the animals.
On the Disney Dining, it really depends what your dining habits are. Our family does not eat sit down meals every day and eat the amount of food and snacks that the dining plan allows, so you have to decide if you normally would sit down and eat all the meals. If you do, I think it is a good deal. We have done it once and I wrote down the price we would have paid for everything we ate and we more than got the $$ back out of it, however, we usually don't eat expensive sit down dinners. But it was fun because we were with a whole group of people.

We've done the basic dining plan twice and loved it. The only problem i have with it is you need to make ADR's at the better places so if it is a spur of the moment trip you cant always get the ressie you want. We are thinking of trying the deluxe in Sept so i can go to CRT and then thiers the grand gathering that will be covered. We figured out where and what we would eat at the beginning of our trip and doing the deluxe dinning we saved $120 without figuring in the snacks and the cup. We always use our snack credits for gifts for the family. I was talking to my mom because they may come with us and she asked how you can eat everything you get well its easy you dont always eat everything on your plate or make decisions based on what your eating if the entree is big get a small appitzer and dessert(or get it to go). Hope this helps.

We always stay at AKV.... It is my favorite resort. We have stayed on the concierge level the last three trips up there, but we have also stayed in the Savannah view rooms. You have to try Boma while you are there. Jiko is great too, but we love Boma. As for the Sunrise Safari it is open only to concierge Level guests. We did it back in January during our anniversary trip. If you can ever get a room on that level the Safari is wonderful and is well worth the money and the early morning wakeup call. I have not tried the Sunset Safari which is open to eveyone, but I hear it is very nice. I just can't seem to cough up that kind money. As for the dining plan we only got it one time and that was because it was included in the pkg we were buying. I honestly am not sure if it is worth it or not. Hope that you will enjoy your stay. :goodvibes

TGIF Good morning everybody. Well here I set and left to my own devices today. Nancy has gone to sub today. For the first time in a long time she is going to sub 3rd grade. Im sure I will here all about it when she gets home. I can' twait she isn't use to doing the higher grades.
She did leave me a honey do list to keep me busy HA HA.
Mary have a good time shopping. Don't spend to much. Mary we have our transportation to port squared away. Joan and Roger have offered us to ride with them to Port. So that solves our problem and we should be there early.
I told Joan I owe her a couple drinks of the day and Rog a few beers. They are a great couple we have a good time with them.
Catch everybody later

Happy Friday,
Mary -have fun shopping.
Not much going on here. The kids are coming home from spring break. So i did alot of house work and some baking last night. Have a 2 hour choir practice tomorrow- to try to get this misfit group ready for Easter. We are so bad............we only have a few that can really sing, the rest of us just try so there is some music. Sunday I have a bridal shower and I volunteered to do the Chocolate fountain--why can't I just keep my mouth shut!!!! I also baby sit on Sunday mornings for a girl who's husband is in Iraq so she can go to church with out the kids- 1 & 3! So I guess I will be a little busy. I am sure both boys will be bringing weeks of laundy.
Dan- make sure you get all your chores done.
We had a storm pass through last night- woke up to patio table smashed all over, So guess what we will be doing tonight!! Luckily it didn't get in the pool. They break in pebbles so it's not dangerous, just messy.
Have a Great Friday.

Yep I guess you will be shopping for a new Patio Table. Yesterday I was watching horse racing from Tampa Downs they had a Frorida afternoon Thunder Boomer and they held up racing for about 30 min.
I don't think you and Roger live near Tampa do you? Where do you?
The only thing I have to do this morning is wash the kitchen dining room floor and do some vaccumeing. I don't mind doing the floor all I use is a mixture of ammonia and water. It' a Purgo Floor if you didn't know you would think it was a Hard Wood floor. I love it easy to keep clean and is tough as nails.
Well Joan I better get to work.

Good morning. Well I have had a busy past 24 hours. Yesterday we had a team building seminar at work. I was in charge of the team building exercises. We had a Office Clue game. It was a blast. I thought some people were going to kill each other trying to sneak and find out other people's clues.
Today was suppose to be equally busy. I was suppose to be at McDonalds at 6am to pick up a load of Boy Scouts to go to a merit Badge university. well we got 3 inches of snow so they cancelled it. While the main street were salted and probably fine, the side streets are untouched. While I feel fine driving in snow, it is the other idiots that worry me. Also, I don't feel right taking other people's kids in my car.
We had a sleepover last night with another scouts, so Matt and friend are in there playing video games.

Robin - the office clue game sounds like fun. We got a little crazy in my office yesterday. Two of our people were on vacation. One of the guys went to Vegas while one of the girls went down to Atlantis. Well the other guys in the office decided to "punk" the Vegas guy. They enclosed his entire cubicle in paper (large rolls left over from printing). They covered everything. Even our boss got into the act leaving him a note on the outside saying he had two new jobs in there and 5 minutes to find them. :) Since we didn't want the girl to feel left out, but really aren't into punking we decorated her office with snowflakes left over from the Christmas pot luck and put a snowman on her desk welcoming her back to the frozen north. :)
No snow for us so I'll be heading out in about 2 hours for shopping with the girls. Wish me luck!

I was just sent the most awesome video link by a fellow Scout leader. I hope I do not offend anyone by posting a link to a Christian Song, but I just loved this church's performance to this song. Plus it is one of my favorite songs. I know a few have talked about attending Mass on Sunday before the cruise, so I thought a few here would enjoy it. Watch it to the end.

Okay - I realize I am not on here as much as I would like. I have spent some time going back through old posts, because we now have our ressie for the night before the cruise. The Meet and Greet the group is planning the day before the cruise - this is scheduled to be where and when again please? Then the dinner or what is being called the Grand Gathering - is that just our group from here, other cruise bound folks too, or what? Where and when is it? Does it require park admission?
Thanks for the information and for your patience with me. I want to be on here more often, but I can't seem to find a way to my job in less than 12 hours a day and that doesn't leave me much time to be a wife and mom, much less a Dis-surfer... much to my dismay.

Imagine if the ship hit the dock and they were stuck there----not a good example I guess:rolleyes1 , since we would all love to stay there a few days, but you get my drift. I hope there we not a lot of children around to see all that. I can't even imagine yelling at those sweet girls behind the desk and the captain!!!!Yikes.

Holland America has an place called Half Moon Cay that is similar to Castaway Cay. We were supposed to spend the day there last Saturday. There is no pier there so passengers are tendered in on boats that are based there that are larger than the lifeboats/tenders that are on the ship. When we got there the seas were so rough you cold see the spray from the waves crashing on the beach. Around 8:30 A.M. the Captain announced that the seas were too rough to tender and that we were continuing on to Ft. Lauderdale, very slowly. Later it was announced that the $15 per person docking fee would be credited to each cabins account and that everyone would get a complimentary (free) glass of champagne at dinner time. People were disappointed but I didn't hear of anyone going ballistic over it. Mother Nature will do what she will do.
We've sailed on the Magic three times and we almost had to cancel CC on the second cruise. It was so windy it took three tries to get in the Channel and dock. I talked to a Bridge Staff later that day that said if we hadn't docked on the third try it would have been canceled.

Yeah a number of threads on the main forum have been a wee bit crazy, and it becomes a difficult thing sometimes making sure the rumours don't get out of hand. But not all that bad, some of the way out there theories that end up getting tossed around are as you said just plain nuts, and pretty obvious they are just theories. Does leave me wondering if some of the more extreme ones appear from someone looking to make an argument, which is sad to get people so upset over literally in those cases nothing. But in the end, all is good, yes the Magic has a bad luck cruise, 1 engine down for a while, lousy conditions at CC, but can't imagine the entire trip was ruined by these things, wouldn't have been for me. And am still looking forward to boarding her in about 6 1/2 weeks now :)

Mark,
I was reading those threads and think you handle it very well. If we are unable to dock at CC it wouldn't ruin my trip. You cannot control everything esp the weather. That has happened to us on other lines (we were routed to Nassau instead of the private island on NCL). Peolpe just need to relax and appreicate the fact that they are on vacation. I know people that would do just about anything for what we do every year.
I am going to try to make Tie Dye cheesecake (it's available at POP). Wish me luck.

It's a big sloppy mess, so I'll just sum up.
First of all the weather conditions down in the caribbean have not been exactly favorable lately. Very high winds.
The Magic, on the way to St. Maarten had a failure of one of her 5 diesel engines which provide power for everything aboard including propulsion. This, combined with sailing into heavy headwinds made them late getting in. While in port the engine was repaired and they continued on. Upon arrival at Castaway Cay the winds were too severe to allow a safe docking. They made 4 attempts but just couldn't do it with the wind pushing the ship out of the rather narrow slot they have to pull in there. A small but very agitated group of people went and read the riot act at guest services and from my understanding it did get a little ugly.
Now, the engine has been repaired, and the Magic is already about halfway thru her next sailing.

I just want to give big congrats to all you moderators. I have been reading the threads on the Magic issues. Some of those folks are crazy. I can't imagine getting that upset over missing CC,yes it would be disappointing but do they not realize saftey is much more important than a day at the beach.
Life is too short they need to enjoy what is going on around them.
Thanks for what you do and for closing that one thread.
Thanks Joanne - that really means a lot to all of us. We do what we do because we love Disney, love cruising and love helping people. Your words mean more than you'll ever know especially today.

Good morning all,
Send Spring this way. It is still chilly here for March. The kids are going to try to go to the beach since today is going to be the best day all week. My house looks like a dorm room. But I love having them home. It's hard to believe but this semester will be over in 6 weeks!!
Annette how was the cheese cake? You will have to share the recipe if it comes out good.
I was bad last night- got into the girl scout cookies.
Have a great Wednesday all.

I have been loving the weather for the last few days, however I have to tell myself that this is MI and it is not uncommon to get snow in April so I am remaining optimisitic but also trying to keep reality in check.
They are predicting a storm next week but it is unclear yet if it will be snow or rain.

I will leave the cheesecake making to the experts at WDW. While it was alright, it wasn't perfect. The receipe is on the resturant thread if anyone wants to attempt it.
Weather here today is supposed to be really nice. 45 and partly sunny! But like Mandy said, it's MI and changes quickly.
Have a great day everyone :)

Only got on once yesterday and Mark thanks for the update on the Magic.
I think those people went a little overboard HA HA.
Some people just don't know how to go with the flow. Just go to the Pool and have a drink and cool off.
Nanc a I are getting ready to head out for a long weeked and meet our friend we vacation with in the summer at York Beach. There wil be abou 14 of us and we are all staying at the Hampton INN in South Portland. We have been doing this for the past 10 years or more. Its a nice place to stay they have a pool ,hot tub,and the Maine Mall is across the street.
Joan you have to stay out of the cookies. those walks on the beach won't do any good HA HA.
well gang got to go finish packing. Catch everybody later.

Good morning all. We after getting all that snow on Sat, we will be in the 70s today. Gotta love it.
Spent yesterday in a software class, came home a fell immediately asleep. The time change is catching up with me.
Today, I am off to Matt's school. They are having a "wax museum." The students did a bio on a influencial person and now they have to dress up like that person and pretend to be that person. He has a tri-fold board with pictures and quotes and a prop. He did Walt Disney. He is using my Don Williams drawing I got on the member cruise a few years ago.

Good morning all,
It's another beautiful day here also. The kids went to Panama City Beach yesterday. Said it was packed. There is a Margaritaville there now! They tried to get down to Spinakers- where M-TV hangs out but they sat in traffice for an hour and gave up. It was aslo a little chilly for these Florida kida to lay out so they just walked and played on the beach.
Robin- nice to know you are raising another Disney lover.
My youngest is going down next week end with his girlfriends family. They take him a long so they don't need a map!!!!! I am jealous but the Easter crowds are never fun.
have a great Thursday. I for got to tell every one we are going to see Elton John. I heard he puts on a great show.

Reservations are a must with the dining plan, it used to be easy to get into dinner last minute before the dining plan! But now you really do need them! A fav of ours is Le Cellier in Canada...The pretzel bread and cheddar cheese soup is a fav of ours!

That being said my favorites are:
Outside the park: 1900 Park fare, Boma, Jiko, Turf Club
Inside the park:
MK: Liberty tree
Epcot: Tutto Italia, Tokyo Dining, Chefs de France, Le Cellier, Coral reef
MGM: No real favorites
AK: Tusker house

If you want to eat in the parks you are best making reservations. Our favorites in the parks are Tony's and Liberty Tree in Magic Kingdom and LeCellier in Epcot. We just tried Chefs de France in Epcot on our last trip and enjoyed it.
You can have a lot more luck without a reservation at the resorts. Our favorites there are Kona Cafe in the Poly (a true favorite for lunch), Yachtsman Steakhouse, Cape May Cafe, and Spoodles (for breakfast).
We've also had some luck calling Disney Dining from the room and asking if they have any openings for that evening. Also very rarely we've been able to do a walk up right before they open for dinner (so usually around 4 pm) and get in.
Bottom line if you have your heart set on a certain location call and make the reservation.

I got a phone call from Chase last night on some suspicious charges on my Disnay card. They were right someone has been internet shopping with my cc #. It was very weird since we just got the new ones last week in the mail. So they closed that account, had us cut up our cards and will send us new ones. So look at your statemnts carefully- they wouldn't tell me if it was happening to any one else. They were very nice one I got one I could understand!!!!
Have a great Friday.

They have reschuduled for April 25th. Which is Graduation at FSU!! Scott says he is not walking because it's too long & boring. 6000 kids so I can understand that but we still have to go and collect him and all his stuff. We are still renting a cap & gown so we can take pictures. He is graduating with an accounting degree and already has a job lined up at a local CPA firm. he has done very well for himself. We are very proud of him.

Good Saturday Morning! Here in metro-Atlanta we are picking up pieces and thanking God for no more injuries and damage than we have. Last night's storms were very bad for our city. There were several large events going on with people of all ages when the tornado went through the downtown area. My husband (Tikimack) works down there, and I am thankful he was home before it started - he was slated to work quite late last night. Our son is a student at Georgia Tech, and it was not in his area. We are supposed to have more storms on the way today. We had hail and high winds early this morning (around 5) and the city was still trying to figure out all the damage when that one came through - it could be a rough day.
