I opened up my new Colorado Runner magazine and saw an ad for 2008 Disney's Endurance Series. It tells of upcoming events:

March 8, 2008 National Kidney Foundation of Florida 5k

May 2-4 Disney's Minnie Marathon Weekend (we knew that)

May 10 Muddy Buddy

May 11 Danskin Women's Triathlon

August 29-31 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend

October 5 Susan G Komen central Florida Race for the Cure 5K

October 10-11 Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic

October 12 Race for the Taste

October 25 Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13K & 6.5K

January 8-11, 2009 Marathon Weekend

I just thought I'd let everybody know they've set some dates & published them.

Man, I really wish they would reconsider hosting the DL 1/2 Marathon on any other weekend except Labor Day. It's just so crowded (more so than usual) at the parks and the rates are higher at the local hotels.

But, you know, I'll be there anyways!

Thanks for posting. I am going to be down for the Minnie weekend so I think I will give that a shot. The ToT race was fun but I don't know yet if I want to make a special trip just for that.

I also want to do the 1/2 in Jan of 09.

Visit my page on the 07 Minnie at http://www.disneyrunning.com/minniemarathon07.html . Click on the link of my photos(123) that will give you a feel of the course. It is the last 9.1 miles of the marathon course. It goes from AK(parking lot) towards WWoS where it turns around and goes through MGM along the canal by the Boardwalk area(actually by the Beach Club) into EPCOT, around World Showcase and out the front part of the part to finish in the parking lot of EPCOT.

The Minnie was my first race ever! I did the 5K with my friend and the 15K. I really had a blast. Last year, it was 2 person teams. I was a sister/sister team with my friend. The other option was mother/daughter.

Yes, that is a reason. We hear that a "Princess" 1/2 marathon will replace it. No date yet! Disney will wait until the week of the race to annouce that:sad2:

So I am hoping that what Robert says is true and that the Minnie never fills - because the way money is lately its going to be awhile before I can get the money to register. I definately don't want to miss the Minnie. I am hoping my neice is able to do the 5k with me but I want to do both races.

As far as the Muddy Buddy - my DH mentioned something about it the other day. I just don't like that its the weekend after the Minnie - I don't know if I can swing 2 trips that close together.

They have had the race for 2 years now. The first year it was full and the second year it wasn't. I guess the trend is it won't fill up but you can never be sure. I don't think RFTT fills up either so it isn't like all their races fill up.

Well the obvious solution is to just stay the week in between them. ;) That way you only have to make one trip. :lmao:

So I guess it looks like the Inuguaral races fill up and then the years after they don't (well besides the Marathon and the half)

And that would be nice to stay a whole week at WDW - I have never done that before - my longest stay so far is 4 nights. I would be on :cloud9: but I don't think my bank account would agree with that!!! LOL

1. The crowds around the parks are pretty big(by my standards) because Flower & Garden plus some schools being out(at least a woman at our table at Biergarten mentioned).

2. The expo really isn't anything at all. Especially compared to the marathon weekend. Check out my photos on my website http://www.disneyrunning.com/07minniephotorm.html

Your photos make everything so REAL!! It looks like you and everyone else really had a great time, most important your pictures reflect that everyone regardless of their shape and/or size can do it:)

I honestly think for me personally the 15K is what I can handle, the 1/2 maybe next year depending if I can do this.

Have you ever done the 5K and the 15K back to back?

My only thing that may be a problem is the money. In Sept we were in Disney for 9 days, we are DVC members which is great. We have an exchange student from Germany and we wanted to show her the love of Disney (and she too is in love with Disney). Plus, we are going back this month too for 5 days. And lastly as a DVC member my points are gone (with 2 trips), and I won't have any available until after Sept.

If my girlfriend goes with me, and I leave DH and 4 children (exchange student will be back in Germany) the cost won't be too bad. However, if my whole family goes that is when things get expensive.

Are their packages for this event?

Anthony Travel is the official group for the Minnie. They have some different options at http://www.anthonytravel.com/minniemarathon08.cfm .

I have the DVC Minnie app on my website at http://www.disneyrunning.com/MinnieMarathonCastDVC08RegForm.pdf . At least you could save $5 per race.

I enjoyed the expo for the Minnie weekend. I've never been for marathon, but it was a decent size. It was geared toward women, with Her Sports & Fitness, Gracies Gear, Keep Moving, Adventure Babe there with booths. There were different speakers & demos. It was a neat experience.

That looks great! I would love to be in EPCOT with noone there running from country to country-without a passport no less!

I was thinking of booking using points at BWV or BCV, if it is available, but the points are so high for a weekend. The Anthony Travel deal seems reasonable. I wish it was a closer resort, though.

Has anyone had experiences w/ Anthony Travel?

Also, why is the 2008 the last Minnie Marathon?

I just finished my first 1/2 marathon this past Sept (Philadelphia Distance Run) and my long term goal is to someday do the Disney marathon (if my body cooperates). It's not in the cards for this Jan, but maybe in '09. Anyhow, since I'll be down that way for a work conference and it will only cost me some vacation points I thought what the heck do the whole weekend thing and get a taste of the Disney races. This is all contingent on the fact that the conference thing doesn't get cancelled due to buget issues at work. Then on Sunday I'll move over to the conference hotel for the week.

Okay, so I have a couple questions about this event....

REGISTRATION: As a DVC member I know there is a $5 per application discount, right? Can you register online? I would really like to take advantage of the special park pass of $35.

RACE DAY(S): I originally was only going to do the WRTW on Sunday, but the more I read I'm thinking of the Go Red on Saturday also. The only way I am able to participate in this weekend is because I will be down for a conference starting Monday, May 5. So as I was researching the conference I came across these races and thought what the heck I was going to run the Broad Street 10 miler here in Philadelphia on that Sunday anyhow and then jump on the plane in the P.M. to get down to Florida, so why not go down early and do Disney races instead. For 5K's I usually run by myself, but longer races I run with a partner- you know to feel each other's pain... Well, how common is it for solo runners? A co-worker (guy) who will be down for the conference may come down early too and run on Sunday with me, but in case he doesn't make it I will be going solo.

LODGING: My home resort is SSR, but the 15K race begins at AKL. Should I see about getting a ressie at AKL since that is where the race begins because of the transportation issue? I understand there is no transportation available to the starting line, right? And then just take a taxi to the 5K start?

Can someone please answer my questions or provide clarification. Any lessons learned from previous experiences is always helpful.

thanks.

Registration - There is a discount for DVC but you can't get it online. There should be a form on www.disneyrunning.com that you can fill out to get the discount.

Race Day - There are several people that run by themselves. There will also be groups of Wishers that you can stay with if you want.

Lodging - The race actually starts in the parking lot of Animal Kingdom, not the lodge. They don't have any transportation to the start or finish so whereever you stay you will have to get a bus. That said, depending on the finish time you might be able to get the regular Disney transportation back to your resort.

Bill

Thanks Bill.

I guess I have more questions...

The way I understand it is, is that there is NO Disney sponsored transportation to the start of any race that weekend, right? So, I will need a rental car either way then right? There should at least be transportation from Epcot back to the hotels by about 9am or so when the parks open right? I could 'hang' around after and wait for transportation if necessary. That being said- I guess it doesn't matter where I make ressies then.

As far as the special park ticket I am out of luck unless I forgo the DVC application and register online, right? The DVC is only a $5 discount anyhow, right? Is there any other advantage to signing up as a DVC member besides the $5 like DVC pins or anything....?

thanks

You could walk to the start from AKL to the start. I think it is about a mile BUT there are no sidewalks so you will have to be careful of traiffic. We walked on time from AK to AKL so just be careful as it will be dark out.

We took a taxi for the 5K from BWV to DTD(where it was this year) and was only $10 including tip. We will probably do that agin for the 5K unless we find a fellow WISHer staying at BWV. Mel was nice enough to give us a ride from BWV to EPCOT for the 15K. We than took Disney Race Transport Busses to AKL. Once done we just walked through EPCOT back to our room.

As for Special priced tickets, Disney's website states:

"Specially priced Theme Park Tickets are available to Disney's Minnie Marathon Weekend presented by Lady Foot Locker participants. For more information or to place an order visit www.AnthonyTravel.com or call (866) 913-7168."

So I would try that first. If not, I can give you an email address on where to contact someone.

Signing up using DVC app saves you $5 race fee difference plus the Active.com fees they charge on top of race registration. No other perks! We have saved $50 by using DVC apps over online reg plus probably another $15 in Active fees.
