We've done this on other cruise lines and it has never really been great because practically the whole ship is closed down! There was no bar service at the pools, very little dining avaialble etc. SO I'm wondering how DCL is when it's a port day- do you feel abandoned if you stay on the ship??

It's the best time to be on the ship IMO! The bars and restaurants are open, the kids clubs are in business and the pools are empty! Love it! Who needs ports?!?!?!?!?

After 19 Disney cruises, we never both to get off in Nassau anymore (unless I need some new, cheap swim wraps!). We just pretend it's a day at sea. There is PLENTY going on...movies, food, pools, bars, and we also schedule spa appointments. It is a great, non-crowded way to enjoy the ship.

We stayed on the ship Nassau day when we did the 4-day cruise...after once setting foot on Nassau on a previous cruise, I knew we were missing nothing worthwhile!
We stayed on the ship on St Maarten day this last time (did the 7 day cruise 2 years in a row). Both times, staying on the ship while the other passengers went ashore was the BEST thing we did - it was so relaxing & quiet by the pool, and the bar was open in the afternoon. I absolutely loved it, and since I cruise for the ship experience (not ports), I expect to spend more port days enjoying an uncrowded ship.

We stayed on board the Wonder while in port at Nassau. It was great for us, we had the pool to ourselves, lunch at Triton's, and just a wonderful, quiet, relaxing day. We're going in September and I can guarantee you that we'll do the same thing.

I used to be a fan of lunch at Triton's, but on the last two cruises I've been won over by the excellent American Buffet at Beach Blanket Buffet on Nassau day. I have photos of the spread on my website at www.*****************
If you eat lunch on board, don't miss it! Hubby recommends the cold crab claws and pumpkin cheesecake, while I love the turkey, corn bread and blueberry cobbler.

One of the carnival cruises I went on they also shut down the pools in every port...actually they EMPTIED the pools in every port and refilled them (they were salt water pools) and they were FREEZING whenever we went in them!! It was no fun staying onboard in a port when you couldn't even use the pool!

During our 4-day cruise (Sept. 2000), the day started out promising (weather-wise) at CC.
Shortly after we picked up our snorkeling equipment & floats it began to thunder! There was lightening and the CMs mustered everyone out of the water. It calmed, but the thunder & lightening returned...
After the last calm, it was grey and cloudy. The water was all stirred up - couldn't snorkel.
My DD8 was very disappointed at this time, so we gave up before lunch and went back to the ship. DCL credited our float and snorkle rentals.
None of the restaurants were open (at least during Sept. 2000), and it was suggested we order room service. (I think it was mentioned somewhere in this board that there's now a few more dining options).
We did, and headed out to the pool. By that time, the sun was shining. My mom and I plopped beside the pool with our conch coolers, and my DD8 pretty much had the pool to herself. Everyone was happy!
We cruise March 30 and I'm hoping the weather will be sunny at CC this time.
Here's hopin'!
