So are they tearing down the hat and building a 7 story hideous clacker board in it's place?

7 story clacker board? Funny!:lmao:

I can see it now.... lots of kids running around with $20 clacker boards. Ummm...annoying.

Lol so little difference and people hate it like the plague. I like the new one compared to the 80''s neon blue logo.

I actually like the font, but the mickey image is cheesy.

I REALLY REALLY hope they don't get rid of the hat!!!! I don't see why that can't stay... It links with "Fantasmic"...."Fantasia"....if they get rid of the hat it'll all be messed up!!

I heard it was put there to do just that. They had to pay royalties for every photo sold with it in it so they put the Hat there and not up front of the park.

I don't even know if it's true or not just something I read somewhere and it seemed ligit.

I like the New Logo it is Cheesy but in a Classy way .

not that exciting... its alright, gets the job done. but very understated. I'm indifferent. personally would have liked to see something alittle more innovative. Alittle bland for my taste.

The smaller logo does not really show off golf trim of the letters on the logo.
The gold trim reminds me of the Golden age of Hollywood:

Just my 2 cents.

I agree.
Take down the hat!
The chinese theater is a Hollywood landmark and will tie in with the new Hollywood name much better than the hat.

The logo is ok...rather underwhelming but it will suffice.

I'm w/ you...tear down that lame hat! Could they not think of something a little better to stand as the trademark of the park? It's just so random and the placement is AWFUL!

Don't read this in a haughty tone because it isn't meant that way. More in the line of concern:

This is real? If this was put up for critique in a design school it would be torn apart. Kerning issues (the U and D), grid lines are not used, all centered (in the larger image), and Mickey does not match the weight of the lettering. Also, designers are supposed to make sure communication is clear and the "O" gets really muddled and breaks "studios" into pieces that isolates the word "STUD."

That was exactly what I thought too! I am a recent graduate of an Art & Design School, and if this was in a pin up during a critique, it deffinitley would have been ripped apart. No doubt about it. It looks rushed, and not planned. Slapped together....cheap. (It looks like it was done the night before it was due!)

With all due respect, some of you crack me up. It seems like nothing is good enough. I think it's a very nice logo, design school critique notwithstanding. I like the hat, too. There, I said it :rotfl2:

I have an idea, why don't you all design your own theme park and invest billions of dollars into it. Then, you can have whatever logo you want. Of course, if you do that, we'll just pick it apart and tell you how stupid your ideas are (I won't, but, the others will).

The end :thumbsup2

My family likes the new logo. I agree that it has an old-fashioned Hollywood glamour appeal to it.

As for the hat, I am upset with its placement because it does block the gorgeous view. I think it would have been awesome if they had built the hat much bigger (and somewhere else) and made it into some sort of dark ride featuring "Fantasia" or even better, the history of Mickey Mouse. The use of animatronics or 3-D tracing Mickey's "life" is long overdue.

The new logo does not excite me at all. It has a vintage look, but I think from the 70's idea of the 30's art deco look. Since they made changes to the EPCOT ball I think the hat should go also.

yikes! just giving my opinion. Disney has designed many great and amazing things...this is Not one of them...thats my opinion based on my experience.

And if I had billions, I would totally design and build my own park! And I would want to hear what people thought of it. I wouldn't take it personally...

I like the old logo better, the blue looks nice. That "O" in "STUDIOS" is way too big, I know they needed to fit Mickey in there, but it just doesn't look right. And I'm not an art student. :confused3

What bothers me about the hat is that compared to the other three icons, it's a cheap nothing. Cinderella Castle, Spaceship Earth and The Tree of Life are grand, represent each park very well and contain something worthwhile.

That hat is a hastily built pin shop that blocks what used to be a great vista when you entered the park.

C'mon.

Well, I don't hate the Hat but I think the placement is horrendous, like aliens dropped it in from the sky and it landed in the middle of everything. I think the Hat represents Disney's failed over-attempt to revamp the Studios. It is sad now that I think about it, last time at the Studios I dont even remember seeing the Chinese Theather. The only savior for the Studios is if it was set back to its original theme, which I believe was the golden age of Hollywood, I think they did a great job with that with ToT, the GMR need a major referb as a stellar tribute to Hollywood. I think Universal does a much better job with it's "studios", WDW version is a more obviously blatent commerical at times, also Universal is a "flagship" park more likley to be marked "not to be missed" where DHS is probally most likley to get nixed if you have to take a shorter WDW vacation, I always like MGM but felt like somthing was missing.

Thats because its not the icon of the park. The real icon of the park is the Earfel Tower, which can't be seen from the entrance.

I like the hat, but its going down soon anyway.

The Earfel Tower once was but is no longer the icon of the park, go to disneyworld.com at the top of the page it says: Parks, Resorts and More Magic, if you roll over "Parks" a Drop down menu appears listing all the parks, as you roll over MK a pic of Cinderella's Castle appears, when you roll over Epcot Spaceship Earth, AK show the Tree of Life and when you roll over Disney Hollywood Studios a picture of the Hat is shown. I have also saw other logos and advertising for WDW which represents the Studios with the Hat. Wikipedia.com (which I will admit cannot always be trusted with full reliability) also states that "The tower used to be the park's icon, but in 2001 The Sorcerer's Hat was built and became the icon." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earful_Tower)

Right. We have some older park related items, books, cups, souveniers, etc., and they show the 4 park icons, and the "Earfull tower" was indeed the Disney/MGM parks original icon. Although I believe most folks thought the Chinese Theatre was, as it stood out as you walked in the front gate.

on the mug i purchased at wdw in '98, there are pictures of all four icons...the earful tower, sse, the castle, and tree of life

it was during our trip to wdw in '88, when we 'discovered' epcot (had no clue what it was when we walked in) that we saw the 'earful tower' in the distance and perked up and said, "what's that for?"

i would have MUCH preferred that remained the icon

i hate the hat

on another board, when it first dropped out of the sky, we called it the "big ugly hat" and its acronym was buh

personally, i now think of the ToT as the icon of the park because it's what i immediately think of when dhs is mentioned, even if the ToT is not centrally located

with the other three parks, their 'true' icons are the ones that come to mind when i think of them

i find dhs has the most 'personal identity' issues of any of the other parks

the new logo doesn't bother me, but it also doesn't inspire me or draw me in

I like the hat too!

That earful tower is just so lame - it's cute to look at once but anything more is not needed.

The hat is a place for the kids to have some fun and play around with. I think of it on the same level as the tree of life. It can be very fun for kids.

Tree of Life - find as many animals.
Castle - look at in awe and dream.
Spaceship Earth - WOW - imagine
Mickey's Hat - brings back fond memories of the Scorceror and at least my kids love the opportunity to be so close to Mickey's Hat. All kids know Mickey and most kids love Scorceror Mickey.

Having to have a kid look up for that earful tower and realize how far away it is - is like okay look at that thing in the sky with Mickey ears. How did they get up there? Answer question - end of whatever little excitement there was for it.

See the Mickey Hat - whoa - can we take a picture of it with me? Can I play by it? Can I touch Mickey's Hat? How big was that Mickey who left his hat here? All sorts of things each and every time.

Off with the hat! I never understood why the hat was placed in front of the Chinese Theatre. I liked the feel of looking down the street and seeing the Theatre at the end.

On the other hand, I do think that the water tower should be the icon for the studios.

Maybe the hat could be moved to the Disney Park they are building in Louisiana . :rotfl:
