Discovery Magic--Fireworks/Illum. Viewing

Going 4/28 thru 5/4/02 and I'm considering Discovery Magic. Apparently, if you book Discovery Magic with a code through CRO you don't get fireworks/Illuminations Viewing area, but if you book through WDTC you do--but you also have the stricter payment/cancellation policies. So my question is: Has anyone used the "viewing area" features of Discovery Magic, and if so, how did it work? Did you save "stakeout" time? Was the viewing area a neat feature or a just rather ho-hum option?

I'm just wondering whether that VIP area was cool enough to put up with the stricter cancellation/payment policies.

Hello and welcome to the DIS! I used the fireworks viewing area at Epcot last June. There are two in that park: one in between Mexico and Canada and another in front of the Italy pavillion. I used the one in Italy. You have to call and make a PS of sorts for it since the number of guests is limited. The viewing spot is pretty good and you don't have to arrive until approx. 20 minutes ahead of fireworks time. I'm not sure if it would be worth changing to the WDTC package but it was a nice convenience. There are also special areas at the MK, too. They don't provide tables or anything like that. It is standing room-only.

Thanks for the info! I forgot to ask about whether the VIP areas had tables or benches or something, so I appreciate your letting me know it is standing room only. I've got 3 kids (13, 11, and 5) and wife who are all big fireworks fans, so I really appreciate the extra insight!

I believe the area in front of Italy is now for Annual Passholders only. It was in our latest Mickey Monitor.

As stated before, you have to make a "PS" for the viewing spots. There is a special phone number to call and you have to do it 45 days in advance.
