Just thought I'd let you all know that Travelocity just called me informing us that L&M will NOT honor our Travelocity reservation that I made in early January for the last week of March. Even though I have a confirmation, they will not accept it. It was a full size for a week at $97 plus taxes. What a wonderful company they are. Now back to square one. I'm seriously thinking about just getting a shuttle or cab, since that week is now over $300 with everyone else. Maybe I'll check Dollar.

It might be on the Travelocity end. I recently had a problem booking a hotel room in New Hampster. Travelocity rejected two credit cards of mine. I then booked the room through the hotels own web site without any credit card problems. (got the same price too)

Wow, that stinks, I agree maybe Travelocity's fault?? Maybe L&M, at tis point, who knows???

I posted about this on another thread, but Travelocity simply said that L&M would no longer honor any Travelocity ressies. It wasn't a matter of credit cards that I know of. I've had confirmation for about 6 weeks. I really wanted to try L&M out, but that is out of the question now. All the posts that I've read over the last several weeks had been mixed, but I guess now I'll have to join the forces of the "unhappy campers". Hope others have better luck. :(

Well I guess I'll be right there with all the unhappy campers. I too had made a reservation through Travelocity and got the dreaded message on my answering machine when I got home from work this evening. Went on L & M's website and the same car, same dates are now over 100.00 more! But I also had made a reservation with Dollar and one with Alamo, hoping something cheaper would come along(which I thought L&M would be my answer!)
Thank goodness I have a back up...Funny, I emailed them (L&M) a few weeks ago, stating that I had made my reservation through Travelocity and could they confirm. They did, the next day, stating that I had a great rate..quoted my rate and dates etc.
Now I'm really confused? What happened?

My guess is that L&M and Travelocity had a falling out, and the customers are getting it in the shorts.

RobinLyn,
I PM'd you about your message to me. Again, thanks for the rate for Avis. After thinking about it, I might change my Dollar ressie afterall. That was a little better rate and a full size instead of an intermediate.
Again, everyone, I was really looking forward to trying L&M. The rates couldn't have been beat; but it looks like some shaky business practices are going on. Maybe it's not a problem if you made a ressie directly through L&M.:)
I made my res directly through L&M and I have to say I'm starting to get really jittery. We go on Saturday and after all the mixed reports I'm thinking of getting a res with another company as a back up.

Thanks again for the great deal you sent me about Avis! I also get to take advantage of a $25 coupon that was on their website.

Could somebody fill me in? I have a ressie with L&M, but 1) they are now giiving me a runaround about the free day they originally promised, and 2) they say they only hold the car 2 hours from the confirmation time. So, Robin or wdwfam, could you fill me in on Avis?
TIA!

I have a reservation with L&M that I made online. After sending them 3 e-mails and a fax with no response, I decided to search around and made a back-up reservation with Dollar. Even though the reservation with dollar is $40 more, I think I will go with them.
I feel strongly about customer service and L&M seems too undependable. I feel it is very unfair to cancel reservations that people made weeks ago. In the e-mails I sent to L&M, I am asking if they are guaranteeing my rate & vehicle type. The lack of response makes me wonder if the answer is "no."
L&M could have used the support of these boards to boost their business, but they did not seem to recognize nor seize the opportunity.

My bet is that L&M does not want to pay Travelocity the comission they would owe on these deals.

shortly before noon, Dave from L&M called me regarding my email about this.
He was very polite. He stated they, along with most other car companies this past weekend, ran out of cars. This past weekend was Pres Day and Daytona weekend, it happens very often. He told me they are honoring all reservations that they have from Travelocity.
He seemed quite sincere and upset about the mix up.

nancir,
that explaination does not wash with me. If you confirm a reservation from someone that means you need to have a car for them. I don't care where it comes from or how they get it, you have a car for your customer.
If you have made a reservation with someone outside the Company, ie: travelocity or Priceline and you have received a confirmation, it means your reservation has been accepted by that Company.
If the car is dirty or scratched, I wonder what other maintenance are they taking short cuts on?
I am very happy for the people that have not had a problem with this company, but, I am incensed for the people who have run up against this problem and problems with the discount thing, dirty cars, cars with seats that move, etc. In the case of the person who had the email in her had that stated the 10% deal and it was refused, that could be something for the state's Attorney General to look at. That could be construed as fraud. The downsizing from full to whatever is available is bait and switch. Honoring a ressie for only two hours past the arrival time is very very bad business if they know the plane is delayed. They are in the terminal, they have access to this information, look at the ticket!!!!! If it is not delayed and you know this was a no notice cancellation, then, by all means rent the car. Make an effort to provide excellent customer service to all, not just a few. Take the time, go that extra step or mile. I does pay off in the end.

Gail,
Sorry, but I have gone to car rental companies in other areas during peak rental times and have not had a car waiting for me. I have also been walked from hotels that I not only had a confirmed reservation at, but they had one nights deposit.
Not to defend L&M but in respect to all car companies: just as in the air and hotel business, car rental places overbook to cover no-shows. If this were not the case, we would be required to pay in advance to hold a car, or give them a credit card number they could charge for the amount if we don't show. How many people make duplicate car reservations and never cancel the one they dont use? I see here that people reserve a mini-van at Dollar, and an Emerald Aisle rental to see if they can get the cheaper EA rate and just blow off the Dollar reservation.
As far as the other issues, I cannot comment. I have no first hand knowledge.
I posted what *my* experiance was. Your mileage may vary.

I've never heard of L&M. What company is that?

Nanc,
Thanks for sharing. Luckily, I have never experienced anything like what you describe, except being bumped (voluntarily) from Delta. I do realize the overbooking theory and I do see a lot of double booking right here on the DIS.
I would expect that the hotel would find a place for you to stay.
I would expect the airlines to compensate for overbooking if you are the one bumped.
I would expect the car rental agencies to find a way to satisfy you.
Confirmed, in my book, means you are in, there is a place to stay, fly or drive. If it is not the true meaning of the word, then perhaps "maybe there will be a room, seat, or car for you" would be more appropriate.
I do always reconfirm before I leave, just in case.
