We (mom and I) are staying at Yacht Club, which we are super excited about. This will be our second mom/daughter trip. We went the week right before Thanksgiving last year. The first few days were perfect crowd and weather wise, but as T-day got closer, it became way too crowded for our tastes. We figured the week after T-Day would be perfect! Now if only, it was already Halloween 2008....so far awayyyyy

And as I was typing this, I realized we had the wrong dates...EEEeekk....I think I may be a december trip instead!!!!

I would like to ask you about the crowds during you trip last year. We are wanting to arrive on the 16th, and then leave on the 22nd. Thanksgiving next year is on the 27th. So I thought we would be leaving before the masses arrive. Now I don't know. :guilty: I have been after Christmas and it was not something I want to experience again!

Jo

I would like to say a big THANKS to you JoBird :thanks:. If I had not have found this thread about next November, I am pretty sure I would have gone about my year thinking we were going the week after Thanksgiving, and by the time I realized my dates were WRONG, it most likely would have been to late!!!! The nice part about the date change, besides missing T-Day madness, is that we will be there for the Mom's birthday:banana:

Anywhoo...I thinks the week you are considering would be AWESOME!! Last year, we arrived the Friday before Thanksgiving. Regardless of the fact that we were staying at CBR, where one can always feel like there is no one else around, there really weren't that many people anywhere. The buses were always empty and while we did utilize FPs some of the times (EMH, before an ADR) the wait times for rides and shows were great :woohoo: . Not until the Tuesday before T-day did we notice the influx of guests.

As for the weather, we did have a couple of very cold nights that were unexpected. So I would pack at least one pair of jeans or long pants and a warmer jacket, like a fleece. Other than that, we had really nice weather. I can't remember if it rained or not, I am sure there was some, but rain does not deter us in having our fun at WDW. I do think we purchased ponchos, but next time I think I will just bring a bigger umbrella.

To sum it all up, I think you have chosen a good week to go to The World. :yay:

Now, if it could already be November 2008:hourglass ...boy would I be happy!!

Well, you are so welcome!

Have you changed your dates? Or did you keep them the same?

Thanks for the info on the week I chose. Now I am trying hard to figure out if that's the week to actually go.:sad2:

I got a pincode to save 20% for certain days next year, and of course my dates weren't on it.:guilty: The main thing I am trying to work around is going to a University Of Florida football game before the WDW trip actually begins.

Trying to get out of the DH which one he wants to go to, and then working around the crowds that week, coupled with the pincode I got in the mail...my head is spinning. So today is the day. I MUST nail down the dates. That's where all of you come in. Heh-Heh. ;)

Have any of you gone the week we are going? I'm wondering about crowds and weather, too.

I haven't gone then, however...
Jersey week is slated for the 2-8th next year. Super soap weekend is the
8th-9th, and Veteran's Day is on the 11th.

I was in WDW last year at the very start of Jersey week (you notice the crowds mostly on Th, Fr, Sat.) It was definitely more crowded for us on that Friday than at the beginning of the week.

I will say that the pincode I got had that week on it, so I am thinking that WDW isn't expecting large crowds that week. They usually issue deals to fill rooms that aren't expected to be filled.

How many people will be in your party?

My family is planning a trip for Nov 1-8th, it's sooo far away, but more time to plan. We are still trying to decide what resort to stay at... POR or Poly. We were there last Thanksgiving week, and had a great time at Beach Club, we're hoping for less crowds early Nov next year?
Dh and I will be traveling with DS (8), DD (8), DS (4) and DS (1)

I haven't gone then, however...
Jersey week is slated for the 2-8th next year. Super soap weekend is the
8th-9th, and Veteran's Day is on the 11th.

I was in WDW last year at the very start of Jersey week (you notice the crowds mostly on Th, Fr, Sat.) It was definitely more crowded for us on that Friday than at the beginning of the week.

There will be 8 in our group. What is Jersey week??

Edited to add: P.S. I just read what Jersey week was. It is really ironic that we are going for part of that week, because my stepdaughter just moved in with us at the beginning of the school year (her senior year) and she came from New Jersey! I bet she will be excited!

P.P.S. OK, what's the consensus though? Will the crowds be large? I've read conficting opinions. I didn't realize so much would be going on that week. It looks like there will be special events much of the time we are there. I really hope it doesn't affect the crowds that much.

Well, welcome to our dancing party. I think we will all get to know one another pretty well by the time next November rolls around.;)

We haven't stayed at the Poly yet. We are a family of 5 as well, and I just can't seem to convince myself or my DH that we would all be okay in one room. :rotfl: Our children will be 13, 9 and 6 by the time we go and I really desire some quiet time when we get back from a day at the parks.

We usually get two connecting rooms. This past May, Dh and I went alone and stayed at POFQ. In the mornings, I'd walk over to POR just for an early alone time while Dh ran and I thought POR was beautiful.

We have been to the Poly and love the themeing there. I'd love to go someday to stay.

During your time, I believe the first part of the week will be awesome; the latter part, people might be arriving for Jersey week, and it may be a little more crowded.

JoBird,

Yup, changed the dates to the first week of December. The best part really is that I get to plan a some sort of secret surprise for my moms birthday.

A spinning head can be no fun. But just keep reminding yourself why your head is spining: a trip to WDW!!! I email my mom the Allears website so she could pick a couple of restaurants for dinner. THAT got her head spinning. She immediatley called me after reading the email, screaming (in a funny way) "Jessica, why are we doing this now. We aren't going for a year!!!" Both of her daughters have this disease where we aren't happy unless we have a trip planned to WDW, and she still doesn't really get it.

I do have a question for all of who are planning so far in advance: since most airlines don't publish flights for a year in advance, when do you start even thinking about your flights?

**i have been constantly listening to mousehouse radio to feed my addiction and pass the time. But it is just not working; I have WDW on the brain 24/7 now and its all I can think about, even though it is more than a year till we go!!!!**

I know whast you mean about having Disney on the brain 24/7! I have it too! My DH thinks I am nuts. If he only knew what all is involved in planning a trip! Right now I have done all I can do, though (as far as I know). This is my first time planning, and I am using this time up to the 180 day mark to do my research. Unfortunately, Southwest Airlines do not post their flight info until 6 months in advance, too. I am waiting for it and then will jump as soon as the flights come up. Southwest is the only airlines out of Pittsburgh that have flights to Orlando, so I NEED to get this flight. I really want a nonstop flight, so I am in the wait right now. If I were you, I would keep on it and book your flight as soon as you can, so you can guarantee that you have one. Rooms, ADR's, and all the planning in the world mean nothing unless you have a way to get there!

Swummy,
ah, I love the planning part of the vacation. when DH gave the okay for this one next November, he said the best apart about it was getting to see my excitement for the next year.:)

He actually doesn't do much for the vacation other than fund it, but we have been enough times now that he trusts me and goes along with all of my insanity.;)

Have you ever eaten at California Grill on top of the Contemporary? We ate there for the first time in May and I loved it. If you haven't been, look into it for your Mom's B-day. We went on Mother's day and I timed it so that we were watching Wishes! over the castle as we were eating. They pipe in the music, so it's very beautiful. Not many kids there, either. a few, but more grown ups. Ask for a window seat to overlook the MK.

In May I flew out of Pittsburgh on Southwest for...are you ready for this????

$39 each way!!!! It was a nonstop flight. Left out of here at 7 am. At 9:30 we were pulling into Orlando. We checked in to POFQ, put our luggage into the room and were in the MK by 11:30.

Keep looking as it gets closer. They only give out a few cheap seats at a time.

If you keep an eye on the Transportation forum here, there will be rumors flying as your day gets closer. Check, recheck, check, recheck. I jumped on the flights; within minutes, it was gone. Must be quick!

Also, this was leaving on a Tuesday, I think. If you travel during the week, it's cheaper!

I thought so too, about it being cheaper on a Tuesday, so I experimented a little on the Southwest website. I put in Tuesday to Tuesday, Sunday to Sunday, and Friday to Sunday, ( I just used December for the example) and they were all the same price!

JoBird,

Your California Girll idea has intrigued me. Last year we ate at Narcoosees, timed to watch Wishes. We absolutely loved that, so that was what I was considering. BUT, there always has to be a but doesn't there, we were on the DDP last year, which was one of the reasons we splurged for the lobster!! Now with all the changes, I am not sure we are going to do the DDP, and if we do I want to go the Deluxe way. The benefit of that would we could still do Narcoosees for the lobster, but we could try California Grill for the birthday. But the amount of food is killing me just thinking about it, but I know that if it is already paid for and I just make the ressies, my mom cant say anything. I guess I better do some number crunching!!!

Well, we were on the DDP too. It takes 2 TS credits at CG. If you like sushi, I have heard it's some of the best around. I don't care for it, but DH said it was wonderful.

I had the steak there, and it was the best one I had all week.

We haven't eaten at Narcoosee's, so I can't give you a comparison. I would eat at both places.

The view from CG is the best in all the resort. They have a balcony off of the restaurant if you want to walk outside during Wishes. WE chose not to because our food would have gotten cold. But the view. Oh my. Even when the fireworks weren't going off, the castle was beautiful.

Just eat everywhere, til you can't move anymore.

When I booked mine, I forgot to ask, and I called Disney to let them know we wanted to stay in the Dalmatians building, but the CM said they assign rooms when we get there. Is this wrong? Also, is the Dalmatians building OK to stay in?

Hey Firechick~

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=6778927#post6778927

This thread might help you out with ASM.

You can request a certain building, or even a room number. I always do. however, they won't guarantee it. The room #'s are usually assigned a couple of weeks in advance, so the CM you spoke to MIGHT have been having a bad day.:rolleyes1

I would definitely call back and request that a building be put on your reservation. Then, when you check in, the front desk could be "reminded", albeit gently, of your request.:goodvibes

Thanks for the link JoBird! I'm going to have to call them back and request a room. It sounds like the 101 Dalmatian building is right in the middle of the hotel area. Is this true? Is it a long way to walk to the bus stop? I can't tell from the thread, but I do see that there are a couple of buildings in front of it. I wonder if we should request Fantasia instead? My 4 year old LOVES Dalmatians, though.

JoBird

Hey Firechick~

I have never stayed at ASM, however, in looking at that thread, I see that Dalmations, Toy Story and Fantasia are all Preferred buildings. Which means more money per night. Did you request Standard or Preferred? What does your reservation say? They are all three close to the Pool, Bus stop Food court and arcade.

You have to remember that these resorts are very large, and in saying "close" it still means you have a bit of a walk. You just are a bit closer than some of the other buildings.

Jo

firechick139
11-13-2007, 10:15 AM
Yes, we asked for a preferred room. I was just wondering in general. I read that if you stay at the Mighty Ducks building, which is right next to the 101 building, it is actually closer if you walk to the ASMusic bus stop. I think I'll start a poll on the resorts board to see which building people prefer there.

However, when Tebow wins the He15man,( ;)) we will just smile and wave.:wave2: Kidding, I'm kidding.

Will you be joining us next November??? We'd love to have a Bulldog along for the ride.

Well, we are DVC members and our home resort is OKW, so we'll be putting our resservation in for OKW at our 11 month mark. THEN, at the 7 month mark, we will be calling to see if we can possibly switch our reservation to SSR. So, for now, just list us at OKW. :thumbsup2

So far, there don't seem to be many DISer's posting that they'll be there in November....maybe we can all look forward to a light crowd when we are there! :yay: Yes, I know, it is still sort of a long way away - but what's the fun in a last minute trip...those crazy people don't get to do any pre-planning or any pre-trip reports! :rotfl2:

I just talked to one of my friends and her family is planning on going to WDW the same week we are in November 2008!!!:dance3: I sure hope they don't change their minds!! They don't have anything booked just yet, but they are a family of five, so the only thing that would stop them from going is if they can't find reasonable airfare.

How early do they normally post their flight times and rates? (Airlines in general) 6 months? I'm hoping it is earlier. Going by the rates right now, it is approximately $300 round trip per person from Pittsburgh to Orlando (worst scenario). I'm hoping for much less than that. At that rate, it will be $1200 just for the airfare for me, DH, DD1, and DD2. Does anyone know of any airline that already has their rates out for Nov. of next year?

I know Southwest posts theirs about six months out. If you download "DING" onto your computer, Southwest notifies you of any specials they are running, you can usually get round trip from Chicago to Orlando for about $160...I'm not sure what it would be ffrom Pittsburgh to Orlando, though. We've gotten those types of airfare up to about two months prior to flying...but when you're within the last month, forget it, the rates go way up! We ONLY fly Southwest, so I really don't know about any other airline. Good luck!!

Most likely!! You have to download Ding from Southwest onto your computer and then Southwest notifies you of sales. We almost always get it for $160-$180 round trip...NON STOP too!!! The only catch to DING is that those fares are only available for a few hours and then that sale is over.

Are you from Illinois? We're in NW Indiana...we always fly out of Midway. Except when PanAm flew out of the Gary/Chicago airport...then we flew from there...that was so nice, it was only 20 minutes from home!! And FREE parking!!!

You'll be at the end of your vacation when we're just beginning ours!

Yes, from the northwest Chicago suburbs and will fly out of Midway, we did that this summer at the end of June, very convenient. I do have Ding downloaded and used it for that trip also. Was just concerned about the prices for that time of year, never have flown during that time.

Hi all! Although we haven't booked yet, we are planning to go to All Star Movie Resort from November 8-15 next year. Firechick, I see you'll be there at the same time.

I'm waiting to book until I'm certain how many will be in our party. So far it's me, DH, DD1 & DD2. DD1's boyfriend is coming as well. DD2 would like her boyfriend to come but his parents haven't decided yet.

It seems so far off. 12 months. How will we pass the time without screaming? :rotfl:

I'm not mentioning any names here (Dawn68PA), but I saw a certain someone on another site... One that has LOTS to do with planning...:rolleyes1

My DH and I will be staying at Shades of Green 8-14 Nov 2008. We'll be on a 7 day cruise 1-8 Nov. Right now we're planning on taking the auto train down again, but need to decide soon if we might fly because my DH has a ton of FF miles that we could use. I'm already researching ADR's. This will be my 4th trip since 1989 ('89, '98, '05).

Ooooo, count me in! My mom's work has a conference at the Dolphin so DD and I get to tag along for (mostly) free! I have an old park-hopper ticket to use, so I only have to buy DD's ticket and pay for our food. Oh...and we get to go to MVMCP too if the party dates are similar to this year's!

So we'll be at the Dolphin from Nov 14-19, reservation made today! :woohoo:

I will join the group! We are from CA so are AP holders to Disneyland and go all the time but have only been to DW twice. Once in May of 02 and once in Oct/Nov of 05. We have done Flower and Garden Festival and Food and Wine Festival which we LOVED and we just hit the beginning of the Christmas and REALLY wanted to see that soooo we are going for that next time. We wanted to avoid the Thanksgiving madness but with my kids being in school it is SO hard for them to miss that much school so we are going to fight the masses and go Thanksgiving week. I know I know it is going to be nuts but so be it.

We are leaving on the 20th of Nov next year and flying in. We plan to stay the first few night at Universal, probably Hard Rock. We plan to go to Universal on that Friday (actually IoA). Then on Saturday we will check out and not too sure what we will do but most likely go to DTD and fart around during the day because we can't check into our time share until 4 and my dad may be flying in that day as well (he has to stay behind as my teen is not able to come, she is going to her mom's in Arizona for the holiday) But then we will most likely go to dinner in Epcot that evening and then spend the week at our timeshare and touring the parks making sure to see the osborne lights, holidays around the world, we will spend our thanksgiving meal at epcot, probably at coral reef, and then that Friday I don't know if we will go to the parks or not, may try to stay away. But then that Saturday we have to check out of the timeshare and we are going to check into Pop Century and that night we want to see Candlelight Processional at Epcot and then Sunday night hope to go to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party and then head home on Monday.

I am hoping by doing it that way we will avoid some of the rush at the airports but we shall see.

Plus it kind of stinks to have to move around the hotels but we only get our timeshare for a week so it was necessary but we are very excited to get to see all of the holiday happenings.

Finally less than 365 days!! Woo Hoo!! Our time share is all booked and I figure beginning of January I can start looking into booking the Pop and the Hard Rock then I just have to look into airfare and such!!

We went last year in October (late) into Novemeber, and the crowds were little to non-existent, the weather was perfect and the F&W festival was wonderful.

I have been between Christmas and New Years, and then again right after New Years and the crowds were

Never been during Thanksgiving.

I'm still mulling over the thought of MVMCP. I just don't know if I want to pay the extra money for the hard ticket event when I have already been at Christmas before.

Decisions, decisions. At least we have a while to ponder...

Hmmm, I've been wondering if I should get a book like that. I've heard many talking about "The Unofficial Guide" and the Passporter. I'm really enjoying the Unofficial Guide. These guys are hilarious. When I was reading the section on Pal Mickey I was laughing so hard. There's a lot of sections in the book I won't read though as it won't apply to me. I really enjoyed learning about the time differences between driving yourself and taking the Disney bus. They have that broken down by hotel. For the price, it wouldn't hurt to try it once.

Ours is going...well....kind of lonely. Family isn't into planning particulars yet but we have totally decided on ASMo, 2 rooms (since the DDs are bringing the boyfriends) with the DDP from November 8-15. We will only need a room only for the last night though.

I've been reading and studying about touring the parks but I'm thinking if we get to the park at opening, and since we're going at a slow time of year, we shouldn't need to much planning for that. What do you guys think? Going at opening won't be a problem since the youngest in my group will be 16.

I've narrowed down restaurants I'd like us to eat at but the fam hasn't given any input except for the Sci-Fi. I must include it!

How about everyone else?

We are going to surprise them with all of it, just not sure how to do it.

Okay, going to call CRO and change dates.

Have a great day everyone.

JO

To sum up what we did last year, my kids found out the morning we woke up at the airport. It's all in my trip report. If you want to read or just look at all the pics. We went the same time and WDW was all decorated for Christmas. Just beautiful.

It's not like you don't have any time or anything............:rotfl:

Well, it's done! ( You will find that I am an unashamed banana dude user...check out our MAYer thread to see...);)

After much agony and gnashing of teeth, not to mention staying on hold for eternity...
we are now proud Octovember'ers.:lmao:

I was able to use a pin code and actually added on three days, (Florida Football, long story.) anyway, she originally quoted some awful price that made me choke, so I said "well, what if I have a pin code" and she then proceeded to say she couldn't get me POFQ!!!!! Only POR!!!!!!! No, No, No. I was torn. popcorn::

Then she said well, hold on...I'll have to talk to a manager...popcorn::

and came back 25(!) minutes later...I'm not exaggerating, I timed it.... and said "well, we were able to use the code, and we have you at POFQ for 9 nights. AND you saved...$670."!!!!!!!!:scared1:

So, long story short, if you are trying to get in at a place you have your heart set on, sound really disappointed...
they might have some pixie Dust to spread around for you!

YAY!!!

MM~ (MonyMony, you shall forever be known as that now to me.:goodvibes )

Hi and welcome! I will update the list in the OP to show you and your dates.:goodvibes

How was your trip a few weeks ago? What dates were you there, and how were the crowds?

Again, welcome!

JO

Thanks for the welcome!
We were there from the 20th through the 29th this year. It was great.
Crowds were moderate on our first night, then heavy through Saturday at the Animal Kingdom (though we were able to do just about everything anyway), then lightened up considerably. On Tuesday in the Magic Kingdom we had no more than very short waits for pretty much everything.
I'm in the process of writing a trip report (though I'm pretty thorough (or a windbag, depending upon your perspective), so I'm only through three days thus far). If you're interested, check it out here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1652521
See you next November!

The ONLY reason I'm going on 2 trips next year is because my Mom's work is having a conference at the Dolphin and DD and I get to tag along. I have an old 4-day park hopper so all we'll have to buy is 1 more 4-day ticket and plane tickets. Allegiance flies from here to Sanford, so I'm hoping to get those fairly cheaply as well.

Thanks, it's been closed for a while, but at least it's still there to read.

One of my favorite things we did last year was decorate our window of our room. I made window clings, brought some window markers and mickey heads and put up a dry erase board for people to sign. It was fun! Plus I was a part of a box swap that was loaded with things to use to decorate.
We just passed it on and on.

I have lots of ideas. Most I got from a thread around here.

I bought one of those over the door shoe holders. It was great for storing things and freeing up counter space.

I used zip lock bags to pack my kids clothes in. A complete outfit for each kid per day, all they do is grab a bag and they are ready. I had special outfits for certain parks, so they were labeled with name and the day. (I know I'm a little off so to speak.) The dirty clothes went right back in and tossed in an empty suitcase. Saves space too.

I'll post more as I think of them.

I just read about getting an ID holder that goes around your neck so you can always have your tickets handy. The lady said it held her tickets, her id, credit card, and she had her itinerary on index cards and it all fit. Hmm?

Ha ha thanks for the compliment on my trip report.... the funny stuff doesn't end there, I hope you'll come back for future installments!

But hey, how do you know I didn't hide the ring in her bathing suit this time? She'd never know I was proposing if I put it in one she has, because she'd forget it at home. :rotfl2:
And she'd never know I was proposing if I put it in a new one, because she'd freak out about how she'd never look good in the one I chose. I already have developed enough neuroses from trying to navigate which colors she likes to wear ("well, I like this lavender, it's just other lavenders that I dislike") so that I can find her Christmas presents..... I think I'd choose not to be berated at the moment of proposal!:confused3

Dawn~ We are in PA too, north of PGH. Today, it's just cold. We are originally from South Carolina... only been in PA for a year now. I can't get used to this weather. Give me 100 degrees with 100% humididty, I'm good. This snow and ice stuff...

As for Christmas, we leave in one week to got to SC, so I'm going crazy getting everything bought and packed up. I am just ready for it!

I am baking today. DH keeps saying why do you have all of that real butter in this house? we never buy real butter... Um, okay hon, I *think* that my sugar cookies wouldn't taste the same if I used smart balance spread. His hands will be in that cookie jar, I know, and won't be complaining one bit. ( He is a die-hard runner/weight lifter, so we try to eat healthy). I usually am too, but this past year has really given me a fit, heath wise.

Anyway, let's see...

Oh, in B&N yesterday, I looked at the books called An Imagineers Guide to WDW, Epcot, AK, etc. They were only $10, but i didn't buy them. I think I will get them for my oldest DD as part of her surprise for the plane ride.

How's everyone else?

We have in the past rented a private villa in Clermont & do the flight seperatly, but for next year it was cheaper to rent & fly with Virgin holidays who we always fly with.

Jill, that is such a long flight! I bet you are exhausted by the time you get here. I'm afraid to even tell you how long it took me the last time we went to WDW...
We took off from Pittsburgh at 7:30 and landed in Orlando at 9:25. We were checked into the hotel and walking up Main Street in the MK by 11 AM. It was crazy.

Okay, I read somewhere that you can buy the 2007 ed. of the Passporter for really cheap, at Half.com. I am going to check it out. Essentially, it's the same, with a few adjustments I suppose, for the 2008 ed. Their maps are really the best. I don't use maps anymore, I've been so many times, but I did use the Passporters when I needed them. Ripped them out, laminated them, threw them in the bag. More detail than the ones you get at the parks.

I've never seen the christmas lights there so that is why we are going when we are just before the mad rush starts.
Disney tickets were booked with the villa & flight, also booked the pirates adventure dinner show all together.

When we arrive in orlando We don't feel tired which i think it's due to excitment of being there again.

We probably will do MVMCP again. There was just so much we missed last time. It was our first and we were just loving walking on all of our favorite rides.

We did not get to Toon Town and I think that's where most of the fun was missed.

The snow on Mainstreet was fabulous.

I think, when we do MVMCP it will be on one of our sleep in days and take it slow so we will have lots of energy to stay til close.

Do you go to the parks late afternoon .

JoBird

For MVMCP, I think you are allowed entrance into the parks around 4:30 or 5 pm with your ticket. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that's what you are allowed to do.

I just booked my rental car for the trip thru Dollar. 9 days, Jeep Cherokee (SUV) for $311. Didn't have a code to use this far in advance, but will keep checking to see if I can get one to apply.

Anyone else using a rental car? We always do. It seems that Dollar is always the cheapest for us.

Based on my recent trip, I would recommend the following, in order:

California Grill
Yauchtsman
Jiko
Brown Derby
Flying Fish (higher if not for ambience issues)
Le Cellier

And Kona for breakfast (though not dinner, in my opinion).
I also thought the food at Beaches and Cream was good, and more importantly, the milkshakes were fantastic.
Some of these I've reviewed briefly on the restaurants board. If you continue to follow my trip report, eventually I'll have reviews (and thus, justifications) of my choices!

8 or so inches here on Thursday, then 8.7 on Sunday. Plus ice, so it's so much fun to try to dig out! And temperatures in the teens. My girlfriend and I joked that we should move to Disney World.
Oh, and there was more fun. The city dragged its heels on implementing a snow removal plan, finally declared it yesterday morning for 8 AM today, then moved it up 12 hours yesterday afternoon. A lot of people didn't know it had been changed (including myself, though thankfully I am parked in Washington Park, a safe area), and I watched at least a dozen cars get towed last night. Those residents woke up prepared to move their cars from the side of the street set to be plowed or to drive them to work, and they weren't there.
Accordingly, today there is a storm of a decidedly different substance.

Last year my then 2 yr old DD lasted as long as we did.

My DH is craving the pot roast at 50's Prime Time Cafe at the Studios.

Hi everyone! I'm just sitting here catching up on the posts on this thread. I hope everyone survived all the snow and ice with no problems or accidents.

My husband works for the Public Works department here and he was out plowing all weekend long. He's had this job for 13 years now and I STILL don't have a snow blower! :sad2: So, as he's out plowing I'm shoveling the driveway. I often wonder what goes through my neighbors minds that don't know where he works...they must think he's horrible to make his wife shovel the entire driveway! :rotfl2: Maybe with his overtime this year we'll FINALLY invest in a snow blower!

Anyway, are you all ready for Christmas? I am...all I have to do now is bake! And I love to bake!

It sure is quiet over here.

One less day on my ticker.

I have to look over menus and price what I think we'd eat to see if the dinning plan is still worth us using. I have read many conflicting views so I have to see for myself.

This entails planning out all the places I hope we get ADR's for. I don't mind, I just want to be prepared and I need to know if there is still a savings with the plan.

HI!

We leave tomorrow for Christmas with the family in SC! Very busy packing, organising, cleaning. You know how vacations are.

As to the DDP, we don't like it.
We figured out after using it once that we can eat cheaper (crazy, I know) by paying OOP. DD will be 13 next year and is considered an adult, and she just doesn't eat enough to justify the price they charge her. Our youngest is super picky and sometimes only will eat crackers, so we have to sometimes go find a place where she will eat something off property. She has Sensory Integration Disorder and it is manifested through oral and auditory. So, going out of town is a bit of a hassle at times.

So long story short, we don't do the plan.

I am excited about starting to look at ADR"s and where we want to eat. We can all figure it out and then post where we get them to see if anyone's matches up.

Have a great Christmas everyone. I will check back in at some point in our vacation to see how everyone is!

Cheers!

Jo

Have a great time with your family Jo.

I'd love to see where everyone's plans take them and hopefully some will match up!

I hope to go to 1900 Park Fare, 50's prime time, Chef Mickey's, Hoop Dee Doo, Cape May, Le Cellier, Sing and Dine at Hollywood and Vine, I might be in trouble here! :rotfl:

Monica we had booked 50's prime time but did'nt have dinner because it was'nt what we thought it was going to be. I know others have said that it's ok.
We don't really do the pre booking of restaurants because we are a bit like the weather very changeable
We have been thinking about checking out the gaylord palms for a meal because we would like to see the ice displays. So our way of thinking is while we are there looking we might as well have something to eat , (kill 2 birds with one stone).:goodvibes

monymony3471
12-21-2007, 06:18 AM
Goofy: I can understand that way of thinking. In 2003 that was us cause we weren't in the know with ADR's. Got lucky though, we pretty much were able to get seated.

I was tellilng DH last night, I'd love to eat at some of the other resorts just so we can see what they are all about. So I was looking at the menu's at some of the resorts.

I have a son with Major food allergies and I have to see if we CAN eat at certain places. He's allergic to eggs and peanuts. The peanut one is deadly.

The chefs are great, I usually call a week before we leave. Then I get to walk around and talk with them before we order to go over what he can and can't have. Some places actually walked over to another restaurant and brought something back and prepared it for him.

I love disney for so many more reasons than just the parks.

Hi Monica
I fully understand the reasons why you need to book the ADR and are very happy with this way.:)
As it's only myself & DH we like to come & go as we please which is easier for us.
This is the way we have always done things .
We don't like to feel tired down to dinner date and times .
Everyone is different in the way we do things.:goodvibes
Good luck in your search with the menu's & hope that you find something lovely to eat for everyone in your family:thumbsup2 .
I would still be intrested in knowing about different places you are thinking of trying as you never know we might change our minds:goodvibes

Goofy: Where are you staying?

I want to try Cape May. Never have. The seafood sounds yummy!

We love the Hoop De Doo. My kids can't get enough of their chicken.

We have breakfast last year at Kona's and the Tonga Toast was fabulous.

We will always make a point to have a counter service at Back Lot Express at the Studios since our great experience there. It's kinda involved so see my trip Report.

Monica we have booked to stay off site in a villa at the regal palms resort at the highlands reserve.
We've already booked the flight , villa , attraction tickets, & the pirates dinner show.

Over the christmas holiday we are going to take a closer look on the net at the gaylords palm ice displays because we've heard good things about it .
We like to breakfast at the golden coral thats the only thing we do on a regular basis because my Dh likes it there.:goodvibes

I know I'm a day late, but I hope you all had a nice holiday. Our Christmas was fantastic. The kids are all happy and they found out about the upcoming trip. Now I can talk openly and no longer in code.

I'm all excited about planning the trip with them. Last year we kept it a secret and it was awful for me inside. But very worth seeing their excitment when they found out hours before getting on the plan.

So, I'm just thinking about making a countdown chain with them. I just don't know where we'd put one. I guess we can hang it around the house?

Yes, I'm being goofy, but that's why I love him so!

From what I understand, DW will be decorated for Christmas at that time and the MVMCP will have been started also. The Christmas lights is what I'm looking forward to most. Glad you have joined us! I'm sure Jo will add you to the list as soon as she can.

We have some rough plans but no idea where we're going what day. We want to try some new places but will do the Sci-Fi again. My kids love that place. We are planning to try Boma, Le Chefs, California Grill (for fireworks!) Capn' Jacks, Cape May Buffet and I think Boatwrights. Are you hitting any of those? I'm waiting for TGM to post the best days to hit what parks before I finalize anything. popcorn::

We loved Chef Mickeys for the interaction. Food is about the same for buffet food.

I loved Le Cellier. We walked right in one afternoon about 2:30 w/o a ressie. The food was great.

I too am interested in Cape May Cafe. It reads yummy!

1900 was a great meal and they boys want to go back this year.
50's Prime time is on the top of my DH list. He loved their pot roast.
Sci-Fi was fun. I'm not sure if we want to do again. They put us in different cars.

Akershus is on my list to do this year along with Mickey's Backyard BBQ.

Hope you don't mind my 2 cents. I thought it's always nice to hear a little feedback from others and you don't have to go and look for it.

I also see that we are now discussing where we are eating. I will try to get back later and give some of my lists. I am so busy today that my head is spinning.

Just wanted to say Hi to all of my fellow travelers. Be back later.

Last trip I changed my ressie 3 times. The third because I found a code.

It never was an inconvenience to Disney or me. I just kept changing my mind on what to do.

I booked a room only right now just to get my resort and dates. I'm thinking as we get closer I'll have to change it to a package to get dining. Just hoping for a code. I'm thinking they'll be out about August.

Make touring plans. They make everything fall into place. I suggest TGM. He is always the first thing I get when planning a trip. Dawn, I know you subscribe to him as well.

Happy Belated birthday Jo :) I have subscribed to TGM in the past not sure if I will again this time, it is having time to read it all LOL!

I am sorry, but I am new to this. What/Who is TGM

TGM is Tour Guide Mike http://www.tourguidemike.com/index.asp?promoCode=AG9MF-AQ more help to plan your trip :)

Hi! I just found this thread. We are going on a Disney cruise from Nov. 6 -9th and then staying at SSR from Nov. 9 - 16th! We can't wait. We went this year from Nov. 28th - Dec. 7th. It was so great and no crowds!! We really wanted to go after Thanksgiving again but our annual passes will expire by then! So here we are going in early November! It is me, my dh, and my ds (6) and dd(3). They will be 7 and 4 when we go then! We are DVC members and just love WDW! It really is a magical place!

Welcome - we are there the same time :)

Better than a code....Kaylee you were right. I found a reputable guy to rent me some points. Now the ressie I just made has to be cancelled. :rolleyes1 But I'll save money going this way instead I think. And now I get a villa which is what we really wanted. As soon as I get the confirmation from him, I'll cancel the lodge.

Happy Birthday Jo!

Yes, I love TGM. I have learned tons over there. I bought a passporter too but I don't like it. TGM -- I recommend it highly.

Mornin~
Dawn, that is awesome news for you! I have always wanted to rent points, but I am terrified of doing it.... I'm such a scaredy cat when it comes to stuff like that. So, we always pay a ton more and get two rooms wherever we stay. Ugh. I hope your experience is an easy one!!! Congrats! How much do you think you are going to save??? Maybe that would persuade me, heh heh.

Welcome, :wave2: Momtotanmanandraerae! Glad you joined our group. Hope you like it here! I will update "The List", adding you.

If any of you see something wrong on the list, please let me know, as you change things so we can keep up with everyones schedules. Always good to know who you *might* run into while at the World!

Thanks for all the Birthday wishes! It was fun. Dh came home and grilled some steaks, we had cake and presents. My dog kept trying to open them. He thinks anything in a package is for him. Silly thing. Spoiled rotten Bulldog, he is.

OkaY tip of the day (TOTD)...
Print out condensed touring plans onto index cards and put them into a small 99cent photo album from walmart, or target. Then throw them into your backpack so you will always know where to go next! I have one for each park and adjust them year to year as things change.

Have a great day everyone!!!:yay:

I'm so excited that four other DIS families will be at WDW at the same time as us!!! I'd love to meet all of you at some point....maybe we could plan a DIS meet at ToT or Fantasmic or possibly all share one of the Wishes Cruises or something!! What do all of you think?

I'm a DVC member, so I had to wait until today to book our room at Old Key West. (Jo, you can update the official list to show that we are staying at OKW...thanks!!)

So, I just hung up with Member Services and we're booked for 11/29 - 12/4 in a 2 BR Villa at OKW! :yay:

And, yes, my vacation planning was put on hold in December, as well, due to that little event called Christmas. :rotfl: But, now we're in the 11 month window, so it's time to get serious about planning!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and are off to a good start for a Happy New Year. DUH! Of course it's going to be Happy...we are all going to the Happiest Place on Earth this year! :lmao:

Jill - they are pretty much the same thing. We much prefer the Illuminations Cruise. I feel with the Wishes Cruise you are quite far away from the action, so to speak :)

I am still checking on flights daily as we are yet to book ours....

Jo ~ I figure I'm going to save about $3,000. I made sure to pick a guy who is a regular poster here on the DIS and has done this before. I feel pretty secure about it.

I'm thinking of taking the extra $ and surprising DH with tickets to La Nouba. He's always wanted to go and we'll be celebrating our 20th anniversary right before our trip.

Just joining in!

We will be staying off-site in a villa from the 1st-15th and celebrating DS' 3rd birthday, our anniversary and DD's 6th birthday whilst in Florida.

We will be sharing a villa with the in-laws so I am trying to find a good time to start mentioning ADRs as after all -180days isn't too many months away ;)

It looks like we're going to WDW around 11/15-22, before our DCL itinerary to Costa Maya, Cozumel, and double-dippin' at Castaway Cay!

So far, the 'week before the cruise' members will be me, DH, the twins, DH (aka Future President of Disneyland or FPD), her best friend, and best friend's mom, who is one of my best friends!

Looks like--in the interest of saving money and doing things other than WDW (like Discovery Cove, SeaWorld, and Aquatica--we'll rent a vacation home offsite and get around in a minivan.

Then, my oldest son; another one of my best friends, her hubby, and their two kids; and two more dear friends, are showing up to go on DCL with us! Hoohoo!

Okay I didn't post yesterday becuase you guys got me hooked on TGM. After reading hear about it I went to the website and was totaly overwhelmed with all of the information. It seems like there is so much information there that is going to be helpful, so it really seemed worth spending the money. I am excited that I have so much time to do the research. I have already been convinced from the forums on TGM to include Epcot in my touring. I wasn't planning on it due to traveling with DD5 who I didn't think would be interested. I can't believe that I have to wait for 10 months to go on this trip and that means I have 10 months to obsess about the planning!!!

I have a tip to share: I like to pack my daughters outfits for each day in ziploc bags. I include outfit, socks, underwear and even hair accessories. This makes it so she can just grab a bad and get dressed all on her own. This also makes it so the dirty clothes don't get mixed in with the clean ones. I then pack a mesh laundry bad to hang on the door for her to put dirty items in. All of her clothes take up a lot less space by packing this way as well and allow to pack a few extras that I may otherwise not allow.

My DD5 loved going round the Kidcot stops in Futureworld doing all the activities so I think we'll be doing the same in the World Showcase next trip

Thanks for the welcome all :goodvibes

How do the Kidcot stations work? Do you have to start in a specific place or can you stop at any of the stations? I have seen children doing this in past trips, but as I stated this is my first trip with a little one. I have been twice since my daughter has been born, but I wanted to make sure she would remember her first trip.

You can begin at any of them. At least you could back in 2000. My kids (the 2 oldest ones that were around then...LOL) still have their masks they made. They can't wait to make another one.

This is such a space saver too. When packing I try to squeeze out all of the air and it makes for a lot more room in the suitcases.

I love doing this too. Especially since my boys are fashionably challenged!:rotfl:

The first station you stop at will give you a lanyard and attach your first piece. Then each station will give you another piece to colour until you have them all. DD then got a poster at the last station as a prize. She was so thrilled.

(I assume the World Showcase one works similarly!)
