Good morning. Feeling a little sluggish since I was up at 3:30 coughing. I have an appointment with an Ear Nose and Throat guy this week. Hope I don' get well before Thursday. I have an appointment with a gastro guy today to set up a colonoscopy in the near future.
Enough about doctors.
I stayed the same this week. Better than gaining. My knee is finally feeling better so I may start some exercise tomorrow morning. I hopefully will get a good night's sleep, even if I do have to miss Biggest Loser I think I need the sleep more tonight.
Good luck to everyone else.
Please let me know how you are doing with the challenge tomorrow morning. You can post that right here on the thread/
New Weekly Challenge
Team Weekly Challenge #5 …this one focusing again on exercise/fitness!
Here is how it works; below you see a list of ‘tasks’. For the next 7 days you are challenged to complete as many ‘tasks’ as you can. Each one is valued at 5 pts each. During the 7 days of the challenge, keep record of a completed tasks and at the end of the week turn in your final total score to your team captain, or designated teammate.
This challenge is on your honor system, be accurate and honest with the points you award yourself. After all, if you cheat you are only cheating yourself from forming healthy eating habits
Complete 150 minutes of exercise this week -- max 5 pts
Seperate from your regular workout -- take a walk (minimum 10 mins) 5 times this week -- 5 pts max
Complete three 45 minute cardio workouts this week -- max 10 pts -- 3 workouts of 45 mins = 5 pts; 6 workouts of 45 mins = 10 pts
Share with your team in the team weekly thread what your favorite form of exercising is (biking, running, powerwalking, yoga, etc) and why?? -- max 5 pts
Share with your team in the team weekly thread what struggles you have overcome in making exercise a part of your routine? work schedules? burn-out? family responsbilities? Inspire others who face the same challenges! -- max 5 pts
This challenge is meant to motivate you...not to stress you! You may choose to complete one or two of the tasks, or all of them. Let this challenge be want you need it to be.....to CHALLENGE YOU!
The challenge begins on Thursday Oct 25 at 12:01 a.m. and ends on Wednesday October 31st at midnight. Your final score must be reported in by Thursday November 1st at 3 p.m. EST in order to be included in the team score. Team captains will report in to each team and report the final results in their weekly team thread on Thursday (Nov 1) evening.

Dona, I hope you feel better.
I had a rough week and know I gain about a pound but I will PM you my weight. It that TOM...and I usually gain about 3 - 4 so it could have been worse, I guess.
I think these food challenges screw up my eating too. I try to alter my eating to include the foods but me and my body are used to what I normally eat. Just a thought.

Hi Dona!
I didn't post sparkpeople.com because I can't seem to figure that website out. I do like to use www.fitday.com (http://www.fitday.com) as a way to track my food for the day. Another website I like (that goes with Dotti's) is http://www.dietfacts.com/fastfood.asp for their restaurant list. I like being able to have an idea about the nutritional info *before* we go out to eat so I can make better choices. Some places don't have the nutritional info on their webpage so I like having resources to make sure I am staying on track.
Not a whole lot to report for me. :( I am only down .5 pound from last week. Wednesday seems to be my lowest day of the week - too bad we can't shift weigh in 1 day. ;) TOM will be gone next week so I looking to become an even BIGGER loser!
I will be back with my challenge points tomorrow! I messed up the milk one but did okay on the others. Did everyone know that you can buy whole grain goldfish crackers? That's a new one to me! I also got a whole grain snack bar - bleh - too dry. A new study shows that eating a cereal with whole grain 7 days a week significantly reduces your risks for heart disease.
ONWARD and DOWNward, Black Team! :cheer2:

Good morning,
I haven't had a good week, and am feeling like a bit of a failure as far as this challenge. I'm up a little, down a little, and haven't really had a loss yet, but it does help me to hear about your successes, and struggles too. I'm sorry I am not a better teammate. I start out on tuesday really motivated, but lose it by the end of the week. My TOM is over now too, and I'm going to give it my all this week.
Dona, I'm sorry you're not feeling well again, and hope the ear, nose, throat doc will be helpful. I just started working in endoscopy last month, and I am no longer afraid to have a colonoscopy. The medication really puts you out and the patients do not remember a thing. Good luck.
FormrCastMbr- hang in there. Next week you will see that fluid lost!!
geetey-Congrats to you on your loss.
Thanks everyone for the great websites. I only got 10 points for the challenge this week. Black beans and hummus pretty much got me the points.
Good luck everyone!!!!:cheer2:

Kathy I have been losing the same 3 pounds since the beginning of this challenge so I know what you are going through. Between my knee and my throat I have had no desire to exercise. I wish I did. The only times in my life that Ii have lost weight has been when I have been consistent with my exercise. Just as I think my knee is getting better I twist it getting out of the car or in bed and I am back in pain. I know what you are going through
My challenge points have been a little better this week
I got 45 points.

45 points for the challenge this week.
FormrCastMbr - I think you have a good point about the food challenges being able to mess things up. I had thought I was going to have a much better week but I think by focusing on the foods in the challenge, I didn't watch other areas as carefully. Maybe it wouldn't have as great of an impact if there weren't so many different ones per week? Just thinking outloud... not sure there is a correct answer.
Have a great week, BLACK team! Remember - onward and DOWNward!!

***********
I think I failed to tell all of you that I have quit smoking since Labor Day so doing that and dieting at the same time is getting to me a bit. I had 2 slips with the smoking but other than that I have been fine. I wasn't a heavy smoker, more social but I still crave those darn things!
Have a great day all!

Congratulations Black Team
We did it again. We only lost about 7 or 8 pounds but it was enough to squeek out a win this week for weight loss.
Black team first place with .31%:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
Red team second place with .271%
Blue team third place with a gain of 0.93%
Team challenge
Red team first place with 360 points
Blue team second place with 265 points
Black team third place with 200 points
We may have only had 200 points but we only had 6 or 7 people doing this challenge. Let's all try to get on the exercise challenge so we can win that along with another weigh in.

Good Friday Morning Black Team
Got back from the doctor yesterday about my no voice. Nothing serious and everything in the sinuses and vocal chords looks normal. He just added another nose spray to complement the one I am already on. My body was able to fight off the infection from last week which is great. I must be doing something right.
My knee is feeling better than ever. Still a little funny if I wear the wrong shoes but not bad.
Last night was the first night in a week that I slept all the way through. I woke up this morning feeling great.
How is everyone doing? My eating the last couple of days has not been great but I am turning it around today. The healthier I eat the better I will feel.
Hope everyone has a great day.
Question of the Day
What healthy food have you tried in the last month and liked?
Will answer later.

Hi Dona, Glad you are starting to feel better.
It's like a ghost town on this thread this week. I have been doing good with my eating and exercise this week and I fit into some shorts that were a little snug on me 3 weeks ago. I leave for Disney a week from tomorrow...:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
Question answer: I have not really tried anything new; I eat pretty much everything. The things that I am loving nowadays are hard pretzels with hummus and veggie burgers. I guess I am on a kick...for a while there, the pretzels were my lunch! ;)
Have a great day all!
Yeah for the Black Losers!!!

Good Morning,
Thanks Dona and Formrcastmbr for the support. I need to come around here more often.
I'm glad you're feeling better Dona, and everything looks good. It is hard to be healthy when you're feeling lousy.
I ate better yesterday and walked my son to and from the Y which is about 4 miles total. I like the exercise challenges because it definitely makes me more aware and I push myself more. Once I've gotten some exercise, I tend to eat better.
Question for today- I tried spaghetti squash and it was really good. My son liked it too which is a bonus.
Congratulations to everyone on the Black Team!!!!!:cheer2:

No need for thanks...you are doing so well...I just noticed your 20# banner!!! :cool1: I wish my family liked spaghetti squash...I love the stuff! How did you make it? I usually just do butter (of course now its I can't believe its not butter!) and grated cheese.

I do spaghetti squash when I am serving macaroni to my own family. I use marinara sauce and cheese on top of mine.
It is nice to cook it in the microwave. COmes out pretty quickly but WARNING make sure you either cut it or poke very good holes in it or it will explode. Trust me I speak from experience. It is not easy to clean out the micro from that. :rotfl: :rotfl:

I cooked my spaghetti squash in the oven, cut in half lengthwise and put a little butter on top, covered, but it took almost an hour. I gave it to my son with sauce and meatballs, and I put purdue short cuts chicken on it with salsa, and tomatoes, and a little cheese. I like to use salsa a lot. The microwave sounds like a better idea. (without the explosion:rotfl2: )
I bought hummus and tabouli this week with joseph flax and oat bran pita breads for my lunches. I hadn't had hummus in a while, and it tasted pretty good for a change. I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow, and need to make fruit salad for my son's halloween party, so I'll make extra, which will help keep me from snacking on the junk.
Have a great weekend everyone!!

Hi All! Thanks for letting me know how you guys serve spaghetti squash. I have never actually had it with sauce or salsa so I will have to try that.
Below are some of my answers to the weekly challenge.
Share with your team in the team weekly thread what your favorite form of exercising is (biking, running, powerwalking, yoga, etc) and why?? -- max 5 pts
I am working out at home now and we have a bike and a treadmill. I really like to do the fat burning programs on the treadmill the best. I try to work out Mon - Fri. I vary my workout throughout the week and some days I walk slower with a higher incline and some days I walk faster with a lower incline. The fastest pace I usually go is a 4.3.
I very rarely use the bike. I guess its just not my thing.
I also have some free weights, an ab roller and bands...don't use these as much either. When I went to the gym to workout, I always LOVED the nautilus...maybe someday we'll get a small one for home.
Share with your team in the team weekly thread what struggles you have overcome in making exercise a part of your routine? work schedules? burn-out? family responsbilities? Inspire others who face the same challenges! -- max 5 pts
I have always struggled with working out from home. When I worked it just did not happen. Now that I am a SAHM, I thought it would be easier but at first there were some days/weeks where it just did not happen.
What I do now that works is I exercise first thing in the AM then its done and I can get on with my day. This is pretty much working but if there is a day when I do not jump on the treadmill first thing, its a struggle.

What a day yesterday. Church, breakfast, nursing home, groceries and then popcorn take in. I yelled at the pain from bs because she had the nerve to mess up three ordersand then came at 2:50 with over 3000 worth of sales to get straightened out. I should have told her to take the popcorn and show up on Monday night but I didn't. I did yell about the mess that she was giving me. It took me over an hour to straighten out the mess and I still don't think it is right. I have to look it over again tonight. I shouldn't have lost my temper but I did. But she had a heckk of a nerve to come at 10 to 3 when she knows that it said 1 to 3. She ruined my evening last night she can't ruin my day.
I got up this morning and did 20 minutes walkingand the knee is feeling pretty good. My eating has been terrible but that will change today. I have 7 weeks un til the end of the challenge. I need to get back into the weigght loss mode. Exercise needs to be 1 on my schedule.
Off to work.
Food for the day
Breakfast cereal milk, tea, banana
Snack kashi bar
lunch chili snow peas pear
Snack apple
Dinner pork, lo mein and beef with broccolli
ice cream cake for dh's birthday
Exercise 20 minutes walking
Question for the day. Are you losing weight for health or for a special occasion
I am doing it for my health. in Aug 2006 I was at my lowest weight in a number of years. People were telling me how great I looked, my bp and pulse were very low. I then didn't keep it up and I gained back the stuff I lost that summer. My bp is a little higher and so is cholesterol. I would like to get both down a lot more and the only way is with diet and exercise.
Today is a better day. Keep up the hard work. Weigh in tomorrow morning. Good or bad (I think mine is bad)we need to know.

per the challenge.....
Share with your team in the team weekly thread what your favorite form of exercising is (biking, running, powerwalking, yoga, etc) and why?? -- max 5 pts
Using the Walk Away the Pounds tape is my favorite form of exercise. I feel like I get a good workout in a short period of time. I have 4 of the tapes so I can throw in one depending on how much time I have available in 15 min. increments. If I can use a machine, I enjoy the elliptical better than the treadmill (booooooring) but can do the treadmill if there is something to watch. The elliptical is just so much less jarring on my body! I like doing pilates when my health can handle it.
Share with your team in the team weekly thread what struggles you have overcome in making exercise a part of your routine? work schedules? burn-out? family responsbilities? Inspire others who face the same challenges! -- max 5 pts
I know that my struggle is unique to myself. I have MS so there are days when I struggle to simply walk straight! (The side rails on the treadmill on handy on days like that. ha ha) Fatigue is a huge issue with MS and I don't always get the typical endorphine boost from exercising that most people do. Walking in the neighborhood is difficult because I tend to trip over the occasional raised concrete pad in the sidewalk. I guess that's why the WATP tapes work so well for me!
I don't know if I will get in the 150 minutes total, team, but I am trying!! I hope everyone else is having a successful weekly challenge as well as a good eating week.
Dona - sorry that BS person was being such a pain about the popcorn. I can't believe they messed it up that badly. We do popcorn here - it's not that difficult to organize your order properly! (referring to the PITA lady)
FormrCastMbr - You go!!! Your workout is inspiring! Keep up the great work!! :thumbsup2
