Growing up, my family of 5 only flew our first time down to WDW. All of the other times, my Dad drove. My Mom didn't drive at the time, so that was a lot of driving for my Dad! I have to say those were some of the best times I can remember. We always played road sign games on our way down to pass the time. We would stop in Tennessee or Georgia and stay the night. We would make stops to the cheesy tourist traps like Ruby Falls. :lmao: And no trip was ever complete without a few stops to Stuckey's. :rotfl: Now that it is just my son and I, we always fly, but I miss those days of driving. :love:

We had been wanting some anyway, so we thought this was a good time. We have 320 at SSR and now 110 at AKV. We love SSR but thought it would be fun to have some at AKV because I love to watch the animals, but mostly the giraffes. we bought 250 points at AKV in May 2007. We are going on a disney cruise on 3-22-08 using the points we earned for 2007 and adding the points from 2008. We are excited to here that there are some folks here in Illinois that are DVC members. Everyone that we have spoke to locally have no clue what DVC was (we did not either until 2001 on our first trip to wdw). We love disney so much but DH is a workaholic and we have only vaca'd 3 times in our 13 years together (1 of those was our hineymoon)!!! The DVC forces DH (who also hates wasting money) to take a vacation at least bi-annually-although ds and I are hoping for annually.

My Dsis lives in Troy and all of her husband's family is from Edwardsville. Matter of fact, I think we have to drive through Moro to get to one of his nephew's house. That nephew's wife is from a pretty well known family...her grandpa was Senator Sam...can't spell the last name right.

I'm down by SIU-C...actually in Herrin, only 10 miles away.

Have a great time on your cruise! We did the 7 night western back in 2004 and that is when we bought DVC. We own at SSR, but are staying at AKV next week. Our DS is marching on the 13th before the afternoon parade at MK. He's traveling & staying with the marching band and we aren't. I am sure he'll have a better time that way and so will we.

Everyone that we have spoke to locally have no clue what DVC was (we did not either until 2001 on our first trip to wdw). We love disney so much but DH is a workaholic and we have only vaca'd 3 times in our 13 years together (1 of those was our hineymoon)!!! The DVC forces DH (who also hates wasting money) to take a vacation at least bi-annually-although ds and I are hoping for annually.

Wow! My mom used to live in Moro! Right near Alton & Bethalto, isn't it? My sister has lived in Edwardsville (went to SIUE), then Collinsville and now moved to Mt. I recommend using Priceline for anything in the Schaumburg or Hoffman Estates area - all will be in a 5-10 minute radius of Woodfield. There are a lot of great hotels around here and the prices you can get through Priceline are amazing!

The previous event lasted about 45 minutes to an hour for the program and the dance party lasted for awhile after that.

Sounds like some of us will be heading to Schaumburg for the Doorway to Dreams event.Some decent incentives to add on (my family just added on this week but checked to make sure we wouldnt be getting a better deal at the event in a couple of weeks - he said theyre the same). That day was a crazy blur but if I remember correctly they are offereing a 3 day Bahamian cruise OR up to I think 19 dollars off a point. Like I said I THINK but its something like that.

That, by far, is the biggest thing thats ever happened in that small community. The closest I came to playing in a State Championship game was my sophomore year in football. No, only 8 classes in Illinois (only). Anyway, Lexington is the smallest at 1A. Other sports like basketball and baseball have 4 classes in Illinois these days.

4.What time did ya leave to drive straight thru and did it ruin ur arrival day because of tired family? Family is myself, dw, dd4 and dd1.
5.I have heard form a few that the closer it gets during ur trip the more u dread the ride home and it is the hardest part for the family, is that true?
6.And any other tips would help?

Hi, we live in Warrenville. When we were younger we used to drive with the kids. Used to get our maps from AAA so we knew where all the construction was ahead of time. We would leave around 4am and drive all the way through GA. Usually arriving late evening. After a dinner, pool swim, and sleep, we would be on the road in the am around 6/7. The 2nd leg would go much quicker and was much easier. I believe we would be in shortly after lunch. Overall it was around a 20 hour trip if I remember correctly. Sometimes on the way home we would ride straight through if we were eager to get to our own beds. The next day was always tough. Now that we are in our 40s, we like to fly.

My daughter lives in Montgomery and she is driving down with a 3 y/o and a 8 mo. The weather will be the biggest challenge.

She will be travelling in Dec.

We drive straight through. (and last year made 4 round trips to FL!!) Its a long drive, and its definitely harder on the way back. Theres nothing exciting to look forward to on the return trip, and Im always more tired from all the activity.

That said, I hate spending the money on a hotel room just for sleeping.

We were not able to make the last DTD show but love them.

Well I think we are still "new" members. Never seen this thread before. We joined last June with 100 BLT points and just added 170 more a couple of weeks back for a total of 270, but of course we still want more! :laughing:

We have two trips planned one in June over Father's Day and then again over Thanksgiving weekend.
