Allegiant Air is offering a killer deal on flights that would be perfect for our May 2008 cruise. Now we are looking into transportation from the airport to the port.

We are looking into renting a van (there will be 6 of us ) but is also might be cheaper to just use a limo service.

Can anyone offer any advice as to which company might have the best rates?

Thanks in advance,

Linda

Absolutely have!!!

I love Sanford airport, and having just returned from MCO yesterday, those security line ups were a KILLER....Sanford is so friendly, small, family like...

It was a few years ago, so my memory is not the freshest on who we used, but I would try a quote from the sponsor of this forum, FL Tours http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/cruise-new/cr-transportation.htm#GT

We will be flying into Sanford in 12 days for our cruise. We are renting a car from Budget and returning at the port. After the cruise we are renting a car back to the airport. It was actually cheaper to do two rentals than to pay for a week's rental AND parking.

Which rental car company are you using?

I am also interested in a limo from Sanford airport to the Port as a surprise for DD. FL Tours has great rates, but it looks like they only pick up from MCO.

Email them, or call them. Surely they will pick up in Sanford as well, it may be a bit more expensive.

.... long lines at MCO .... ? I have never spent more then 1/2 hour in security lines. Then again i only fly off peak, south west is soooo cheap then.

A quick bit of info for the traveler in a hurry. If you have NO ID ... not saying you should stick your license or govt issued ID in your checked luggage or anything like that to eat the lines but .... they MUST still let you on the plane. You just have to go through extra special screening ... which by the way ... is a lot quicker ... because there are not any lines ..... :rolleyes1

The following link lists the companies that are permitted to pick up at the Sanford Airport.

The rates round trip start at around $220.00.

Are you sure those are the only companies allowed? Happy Limo quotes rates to and from Sanford, and they are not on the list.

They are recommended by mousesavers.com, and rates are $135 for a 4-passenger towncar, $165 for an 8 passenger van, and $200 for an 8-passenger limo. (rates are 1-way, slight discount for round trip).

We were in line for 1 hour this past Saturday. Thankfully we arrived 3 hours early. I saw many people asking to bypass the line, and asking if they would hold the plane for them. A lot of people missed their flights, or so it seemed.

Happy Limo is not listed on the Sanford site because they are not permitted at that airport. This means: If they did pick you up they will have to pay fees to the airport to pick you up. Those fees get added to your transportation bill. This also means that the company does not have a Insurance Loss Payble that covers that airport. Now I am not a lawyer so I don't know what that transmits to legal problems, but I do know if the company does not have a loss payable than insurance does not cover the defense of the airport against a lawsuit, brought on by a passenger who had a problem with the transportation company.

So it may be best to utilize companies that don't try to shortcut the permitting procedures in place at public facilities.

Thanks - I had no idea.
