Holiday Carol Swap Progress, Mail by November 29

link to sign ups - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1612923
Check in every two weeks please. I will NOT be requesting angels for this swap. If we need to, I will swap out amongst the rest to be sure you do not receive duplicate songs back.

Make enough for every person in your group. Completed carols must be 8 ½” x 5 ½”.

Use cardstock and layer at least once plus one embellishment. You can embellish any way you choose, but be C-R-E-A-T-I-V-E!!!

SENDING & RECEIVING: Mail date is no later than November 29, 2007. Mail all the copies of the carols you do. You will get one of yours back. These must be in mail, Priority with DC, by November 29th. I will mail out all swaps on December 5, 2007.

Label your carols with your Dis name, real name, and group number. Put your carols in a plastic bag larger than the carols. Individual zip bags will leave lines on the carols if they are too small. I will PM you the shipping address after posting the progress thread. If you choose priority shipping, I will get priority envelopes at the post office and then do the priority-shipping label online to get free delivery confirmation for you. So send a check, stamp, or cash (if you prefer) for $4.60. Please don’t send metered or click-it/ship-it postage – some hostesses have had issues with these.

Please send me your contact information, even if you have sent it before. I will be cutting and pasting into a Word Doc to make printing USPS labels easier. I will send you mine as a reply.

Please check to be sure I have all your groups listed properly.

Have address everyone

I have the "Deck the Halls" and "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" stuff all done. My other groups are still percolating. I went out to look for stuff, but couldn't find what I wanted. I need to borrow Kat's Animal Kingdom cart to cut sheep. :)

I've got my lyrics all ready to print (did a test last night) and sorted some paper - and its an English paper so it will be new to you all! I've finally found a company that produces decent stuff in the UK! Trouble is they only have about 3 lines yet :rotfl:

PM sent:thumbsup2

hopemax, pretty in tink is happy to accept the spot in group 8. That leaves you five groups to do.

Checking in but haven't started yet. I looked at paper at HL Friday and didn't see anything that jumped out at me as being perfect but I did find several embellishments that I might get.

Checking in here. . .so excited to see I got two more groups!
I'll let you know later tonight what songs I'll do.

Glad to hear you can swap amongst the groups, as I'll be getting two O Holy Night and two Frosty the Snowman back. Not a big deal, cause I would find a use for them, but nice if I get all different songs! I know you all who have been swapping/hosting for a while probably have a system down, but it seems amazing to me that you can host and remain sane!:dance3:

Going to PM you my address.

Thanks,

I am checking in after a great weekend at Disney. I will get back to you on my carol for the last group. I already choose out a few of my embellishments but I still have to find paper and everything else. I will be putting these on the back burner for a little while since I am still finishing up a few other swaps.

Hey, my bad, I shouldn't have signed up for Frosty. I changed to Blue Christmas. Got that song stuck in my head now. I've got some great blue paper to use for this.

checking in-I was wondering if I could do Mele Kalikimaka for the secular group & O Come, O Come, Emmanuel for the religious group? and I am still debating the mixed group, but was leaning towards The Holly and The Ivy or perhaps something else. I'll send a pm right now with mailing info, too. Once again, thanks for the extra spot!

I just PMd my info and responded regarding O Holy Night.

It's the only religious song I really like so I'll have to think on a replacement. I'll let y'all know.

AlexWyattMommy

I'd switch a secular spot for your religious one, but I'm already in that group. I really don't need two of each of songs.

I was just trying to find a way to keep rlovew & liv4diz from getting dulicates of the song.

Checking in! Other than getting the lyrics together, I haven't done much but can't wait to get started. :yay:

I need to finish my cruise swaps before I start this one and I pushed the cruise aside to alter overalls for a neighbor's two little girls for their first and last family trip to Disney World (her husband has terminal cancer at 37:sad2: ).

The overalls will be done today and the cruise swaps by the weekend, so I be working on this swap next week.:santa:

I caved and got a zutter...and then went to staples and got the binder too! (Now you all need to tell me to stop getting anymore scrapbook supplies!) I do like the binder quite a bit and I bought the page protectors...I think it will hold up to more abuse than a homemade spiral type album made of chipboard. Also found out that we have Microsoft works so I don't need to go out and buy Microsoft office - :cool1:

Just checking in, also. I have 5 out of 6 done for one group-I ran out of paper for it so I bought more last night and will finish the 6th one today at work. Then I have paper, embellishments, and a printed carol that I will also work on today at work (have I mentioned how I love my job?!) But for my 3rd carol, I'm at a loss so far, still trying to figure out how I want to do it, but it will be done in time!

AlexWyattMommy

Understand pretty in tink. Trying to refigure my ideas due to printer issues. I can only print in black or purples. DH doesn't want to spend $50 in ink on this printer and wait to get a new one. Doesn't he understand about swaps??
Anyway, I'll just have to do the special stuff outside of the actual lyrics.

I bought several different papers last week to mess with and decided which ones I wanted to use so went back and got the rest of the paper yesterday.

So far I've printed up my lyrics and picked out the papers. I got some cute embilishments, but they are smaller than I thought and they look wimpy! I also stoped by Staples and got a pack of page protectors.

I posted this to the wrong thread.

Here's the deal. I really, really love O Holy Night. It is my all-time favorite religious carol and one that I absolutely want to be in my carol book.

I know there are people in my Religious group that are in another group with someone doing the same song but I have wracked my brain trying to come up with a different carol. All of the ones that I like have been taking by others in my group or the first group.

So, I need help. I would like to finish my last group this weekend but I don't know what to do for it. I would like to do O Holy Night but don't know what to do for the rest of y'all that woudl be getting duplicates.

Please help!

hopemax
11-14-2007, 06:52 PM
I haven't done Silent Night yet for Group 1, if you wanted to do that instead of "Oh, Holy Night" I can switch to something else.

It looks like AWM and liv4diz are the only 2 getting duplicates, maybe ask them if there is a song they wish was included and make that for them, and then make "O, Holy Night" for the other 4?

But you should be able to make what you want.

AlexWyattMommy
11-14-2007, 07:04 PM
I posted to the other thread too.
:rotfl:
I don't mind the duplicate.
It's rlovew & liv4diz that I am worried about.

Just make the one you signed up for. No need to for you to be stressing about this.

If happypooh, Pretty In Tink, and/or angelmom in Group 6 can switch with rlovew & live4diz in Group 3, than no one should have duplicates. I'm pretty sure it is the only song on there twice.

TPCShauna
11-14-2007, 07:18 PM
I would be willing to make two separate ones. I could do "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" for the three of you getting dupes and do "O Holy Night" for the rest.

That way I could use the same background for both.

Is that OK?

AlexWyattMommy
11-14-2007, 07:28 PM
I wish, but rlovew & liv4diz will be getting that song from group 8.
:rotfl2: Did you know all your favorite songs would our favorites too?

Nope, just make your song like you planned. I'll do the swapping of swappers.

TPCShauna
11-14-2007, 08:11 PM
OK. If y'all can think of another song that will work with a "starry nights" background then please let me know.

Thanks again!

TPCShauna
11-15-2007, 12:53 PM
AWM has been super sweet in helping me figure out which song to do. Here's what I think I'm doing.

I'll do O Holy Night for myself, the two others in my group that aren't getting dupes and rlovew since she wants two copies.

I'll also do "O Beautiful Star of Bethleham" for AWM and liv4diz so they won't get dupes.

I really don't mind. I'm still using the same background paper for both so it's just a matter of formatting two different lyrics.

Let me know if this works!

AlexWyattMommy
11-15-2007, 03:39 PM
liv4diz won't be here until the weekend and you should be done by then, so you do what you planned and I'll work out the rest here later. I have had offers from Group 6 to switch with Group 3, so I can get her a different song if needed.
You ARE TO NOT STRESS about this.

TPCShauna
11-15-2007, 04:16 PM

Checking in, I'm going to finish these this week. I am having troubles with the mary did you know song, I don't know what to do with it. I WILL have these done on time ;) I've made it top priority and it's the only swap I have out there

AlexWyattMommy
11-18-2007, 10:05 AM
You can just make it pretty, using some solid textured paper & ribbons. Some of the songs, it'll be impossible to find just the right embellishments to go with the theme. So don't feel like it has to have a picture of Mary or baby Jesus or little lambs. Look through the paper and let it speak to you.

vanyel
11-18-2007, 10:02 PM
I can't believe it! I'm done with my carol - yes I only did one! I was unhappy with the embellishment planned to use and went shopping today - found the right thing and finished them up a few minutes ago.

AWM - I'm going to try to mail them before Thanksgiving but will let you know when they were mailed.

Just had to share my excitement - when I told dh I was done, he just said "huh?"

I am done too. They are all boxed up to be mailed tomorrow. I'm not sure how happy I am with them, I was having major problems finding embellishments. They look nice, but it's mostly paper.

OK, I changed my mind, too, about 2 of my songs and hope to finish them up tomorrow. Going to pick my daughter up from college :cheer2: and she may have other plans for my day! Then, will get my son from college on Wed :woohoo: and load up the entire family (DD18, DS18, DS12, DH and me) to head to grandma's for a few days.:dance3:

Hopefully, will be able to mail them Wed morning. If not, then Sat or Mon (depending on when we get back home). I'll post to let you know when they are actually in the hands of the USPS!:scared1:

Can't wait to get these into a book!

Thanks for hosting,
Paulette

DS(8) asked if we could "go out and ask people to give us money for singing" when they arrive:lmao: I explained people generally go out in aid of a charity or something, but promised that if the Rotary Christmas float comes round this year he can get the book out and join in. He is very excited, as he's just rehearsing for his school Christmas production. He has a very traditional role -he's a carrot:rotfl2: Anyone ever tried to get orange tights? :headache: I ended up sewng crepe paper round a pair of joggers.:rotfl:

Finally home from Thanksgiving at grandma's and getting the two older kids back to college!:dance3:

AWM: Thanks for the kind words, glad you like what I made. And, of course I will swap my I Saw Mommy for your Winter Wonderland (heck, if you hadn't hosted this swap, I wouldn't have made any carols or be getting any! )

Oh, I haven't forgotten about your hostess gift. Didn't get to work on it at grandma's but I'll get busy tomorrow and probably mail it Wed.:thumbsup2

Make sure to mark them with "Send back to me" and it'll be done. I've done that lots myself. If something gets glued a little crooked or the cut looks off, I'll have the hostess send me that one back. So it's no problem. :thumbsup2

I just realized that the lyrics to Il est Ne are different in english than french! Despite my poor linguistic skills in french (hey it's been over 20 years since I did it in school - wow I am old!) it's pretty obvious that what you'll be singing in English is not what is written in French - hope you don't mind! Plus on the website that I got the song from there are only 3 verses in english but 4 in french...if anyone wants that 4th verse I can post it but I really am loathe to reprint everything again and redo the cards as it would delay posting. Sorry all....from a sad old not so happypooh who is only eating rice as DD is allergic to everything.....I've a rumbly in my tumbly.....:sad1:

AlexWyattMommy
11-30-2007, 06:23 AM
Thanks Shauna, I'll update the post in a minute.

Did you know that the words for Frère Jacques are not the same for English and French? They are close, but in a different order.

So as long as the words work for the tune, they should work for anyone trying to sing in both languages.

I am soo sorry that a smakrel of honey won't help the rumbly in your tumbly.

TPCShauna & happypooh's packages have arrived.

I will swap these out tomorrow after school duty & allergy shots and will have them in mail first thing Wednesday morning.

Liv4diz, your cute paper piecing arrived today. I did not make a cover for my book yet, but would never risk what you made being damaged. It will become my cover sheet. Thank you!!

I will not be taking pictures of the swap this time. Sorry. I know I will not have enough time to do that and swap them and package them back up tomorrow.

Look for the send/recieved thread to be posted when they are all in mail system.

Not for those in Group 5

Vanyel made 3 extra of "White Christmas". Everyone was able to complete this swap, so we don't need them to angel spots.

If you would like to give vanyel your copy of a carol in exchange for White Christmas, in need to know soon.

Please let me know the carol of yours that you are swapping out.

Thanks.
