While we were having lunch at SSR last week, the people at the next table were discussing "an existing future plan" for a DVC at the Polynesian Resort at WDW.

Has anyone else heard anything on it? (I would love to own at Poly!) :goodvibes

Wow!!! If that is true, that would be so great. I would love to use my points to stay there. I hope its true. If anyone knows for sure, please let us know!

The Poly has been on the wish list for many DVCers for a long time. As long as DVC keeps signing up members and adding to the Disney bottom line (with Timeshares to keep the profits growing, you need to keep selling), DVC resorts will be built. A few years ago I never would have thought DVC would be built at the Poly, but now, why not?

I've heard from a fairly reliable insider that there are plans available to add DVC to all existing resorts at WDW. Does that mean that it's going to happen everywhere, anytime soon? No. But it does mean that DVD/WDW has already taken the expansion into consideration for future building plans at each resort.

So yes, there are "plans" for a DVC at the Poly. There are also "plans" for Beastly Kingdom and Fire Mountain and any number of past planned or blue sky ideas. Whether any of them get off the "plan" and into the resort is another issue entirely.

We can sure always hope!!!

So far it's just rumor and urban legend. If you believe the new CR tower is DVC, then DVC has 4 separate projects under construction. Nothing at the Poly is pending.

With the GF and Poly being the two deluxes without DVC rooms (not counting Yacht), I'd put my money on GF being next. Four Seasons is starting to build on Disney property and I suspect the GF will be the resort most impacted by that new facility in a couple of years.

Unless Disney has some spare land around the Poly, putting DVC units in there would require a tear-down of an existing longhouse and re-build for DVC (a la the Contemporary). With occupancy rates being as high as they are at the Poly, there's no pending need to shed cash rooms. Maybe in another 15-20 years Disney will be ready to tear everything down and build an entirely new Poly that can accommodate a higher number of both cash and DVC rooms on the same land.

I would add-on if they built a DVC at the Poly, but when I look at Google Earth (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&time=&date=&ttype=&q=Walt+Disney+World+Resort,+Bay+Lake,+Orange,+Flor ida,+United+States&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=32.335236,63.896484&ie=UTF8&cd=1&geocode=0,28.404330,-81.580600&ll=28.405368,-81.582649&spn=0.008758,0.0156&t=h&z=16&om=1), there's just no place to build. They would probably have to destroy some of the buildings. Or convert some buildings to DVC.

I have to be honest, while it would be great, I think then it would start to be pushing that threshold we were discussing recently of "is dvc getting too big"

I know dvc has been doing great, but in my experience, you can go from great to a big mess awefully quick.

I like the slow and steady growth much better, where you can see the effects of everything playing out.

they have 2 on site still selling, 2 in the works off site, and rumors of CR.

i would rather see the dust settle on SSR and AKV and let them focus on those 2 off site resorts. THEN come back to WDW and reevaluate how everything is running

Seems like it would be much further down the road considering the current projects plus the emphasis on developing outside WDW.

It appears to me that DVC is presently looking to cast a wider net and appeal to those who would like to travel to other places in addition to WDW.

I would expect further development outside of Florida before Poly or any other WDW resort was announced as a new DVC -except of course the rumored Contemporary villas.

I agree that a new DVC anywhere oin WDW property is a good way into the future. IF the CR tower becomes CRV or mixed use, and GCV and Hawaii announced, DVD would be better served waiting on any new WDW projects. I also agree that when the time comes putting one in the GF after the Four Seasons opens might be a better fit.

I suspect DVC will let sales dictate where construction takes them at WDW. If SSR, AKV and perhaps CR continue to sell at the same brisk pace that they have in recent years, I can't see DVC forgoing further expansion at WDW just to try and force other destinations upon members. Florida land is essentially free (compared to the $144 million they are spending on the land alone in Hawaii) and the more DVC units they sell there, the more "recession-proof" the theme parks will be.

But if we include the CR as DVC, the projects they currently have in the works should accommodate sales for a minimum of 4-5 years--perhaps longer depending upon how California and Hawaii impact WDW sales.

Actually, there's a large parking lot they could build on. They could build units over the parking lot like they are doing at AKV. They could also take some of the existing TTC parking and convert it to additional parking for the Poly. I can see a DVC at the Poly, but not until the other deluxes have one.

I would love that too! We would definately buy points there!

You all talk like there's a possibility that there will be DVC at CR. I would like that, too. I just thought that rumor had died down.

Some of the vague comments from CMs over the past few years could have been for DVC Poly or DVC Hawaii. I've read posts stating CMs made hula gestures, guest guessed Polynesian, and CM laughed.

I think that is where a lot of the DVC Polynesian resort rumors started. Now whether the CM knew it was Hawaii, was just speculating, or had info about the Poly, we will never know.

I also do not think we will see the Poly for awhile, if ever. The one spot I did hear that they could put a DVC wing is where the luau currently sits.

back when Polyn was receiving complaints about mold and mildew - hopping for a DVC resort. but instead they torn down the inside shell and rebuild it.

if they have the same problem in 10 or 15 years - then a DVC resort. but sorry as much as I love the Polyn won't want one in the parking lot. want to see the lake or at least water!

the AKV will not be in the parking lot - it has a wonderful view of the savannah - it will have it own savannah for that matter.

the CRV rumor is very much alive and well!!!! Until Disney says otherwise, it will be a CRV. not expecting the annoucement until May, 2008.

the only bad views (my opinon) of the CRV will be the ones facing the CR tower....popcorn::

Yeah, I agree. The parking lot could be converted to usable space, but it would still be awfully far removed from the lake.

As beloved as the Poly is among Disney guests, I'd like to see them tear-down and rebuild the whole thing in the next 15 years or so. Every time I hear about another "extensive renovation" there, that voice in my head translates it to "patchwork quick-fix."

They could easily convert the Poly parking lot into part of the resort and then covert part of the TTC parking lot into the Poly parking lot. If you don't believe me look at Google maps!

I agree with you. DVC could go in the luau area. Beautiful location and view.

I can't imagine using the MK parking for either villas or Polynesian parking. Seven Seas BLVD is too busy.

The common areas at the Polynesian are also quite busy and I don't think many DVC units could be added without impacting guests negatively. If they were to raze buildings as happened at the CR, perhaps villas could be located in the Aotearoa area or by Rapa Nui and Tahiti. But since in the last few years some of the buildings were gutted and rebuilt and all rooms were completely redecorated even to the expense of new patios, it seems highly unlikely that any will be razed anytime soon. Perhaps never.

But we would be in line if PRV ever happened!:cool1:
