After seeing the great results others had on this board with this lens- I got one. A 70-300vr. Here are a few from yesterday- :)

Your pictures are great. I love the pelican on the dock

I have a Oly 70-300 on advanced purchase. It should be released in the next 2 weeks, your pictures have made me even more anxious to see what it can do.

Sweet. I love this lens. I was very impressed right from the start with how sharp it is and how fast the focus is. Love the AF-S. I've been getting a lot of good work with it on weekends at DS soccer games. I also used it during my 2 trips over the summer to Detroit and Philadelphia. Great at the 300mm end to get closeups during baseball games. No more worries about camera shake!

Can't wait to use it next month at AK.

Nice work Jeff!

No more worries about camera shake. Is the stabilization that good? I just assumed these were tripod shots. Wow, if not I'm going to have to start looking at this lens more seriously.

The VR works like a charm. It will vary from person to person depending on how steady your hands are.

When I first got my lens back in Jan I tested it out and took these 2 pictures. Both at ISO 1600 1/6th f/5.6 at 300mm:

Handheld without VR:

Exact same settings, this time WITH VR:

Now granted, this is an extreme test, but it certainly proves the point. With my older 70-300mm Quantaray lens I got a lot of camera shake images. It really bugged me. To me, with the VR and the sharpness of this lens, it is worth the money. I'm very very pleased with my copy.

Beautiful shots, Jeff. It's a great lens, as Kyle says, and as these shots demonstrate. Worth serious consideration by any Nikon shooter. I love mine, and use it probably 75% of the time, personally. If Jeff's shots are not enough to convince any fence-sitters, nothing will.

I had my 70-300 VR mounted for most of our AK day last month. It was great for getting close to the animals on the Safari and on the walking trails. I got some great shots of the Gorillas.
