I'm off to DLR in November. I have 5GB of memory cards but know this won't be enough for my 2 week holiday (which also includes a general tour of SoCal/Arizona etc). I'm planning on taking my laptop & take advantage of free internet at most of my hotels.

So i thought i could back up my photos online in case, godforbid, my laptop got damaged in transit.

What i need is somewhere i can store the files and can later retrieve them at full uncompressed size. I don't need the ability to tag or view or anything fancy. Just store the files in case i need the backups. I'd prefer not to have to pay as I have no intention of doing this regularly.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

with what your looking for, I would suggest a free web hosting site, just upload the files, and then download them when you get home. The photo sites that are free will mostly resize your photos, and none that I am aware of will save your RAW files.

Personally I would just take blank diskes and burn cd's or dvd's, but that's just the way I do it.

Photoshelter offers an archiving system and yes, you can upload your RAW files. They even create the jpeg to go with your RAW. For $10 per month, you get 10 gig of storage; for $30 per month you get 35 gig of storage. Another option would be a mac.com account (don't have to use a mac). For $100 annual, you get 10 gig of storage. They offer a 2 month trial membership which might be a good way. You can store anything there.

How many photos will a disc hold?

Depends if it's a CD or DVD, what resolution you're shooting at, how much compression your camera does, and if it's RAW or JPG... in other words, there's no straight answer. :)

Check your owners manual, it will probably give you an estimate of how many pictures you can fit on memory cards of various sizes. A CD holds around 700 megs, so figure somewhere between what you can fit on a 512 meg and a 1 gig card. A DVD (definitely the way to go!) holds around 4.35 gigs, so a little more than two 2-gig memory cards.

I'm a big fan of burning DVDs, but I did use my own web host to store photos on my last trip after I was having problems with an external burner. Fortunately, the internet connection in the Disneyland Hotel was very fast - I'm not sure how the connections are at WDW, plus you have to pay extra for them generally.
