Hi all - First time cruiser. Where do we put our suitcases? I think people mentioned under the bed. How much room is there - would two fairly large hard-side suitcases fit?

We put both our large suitcases under there.

Don't forget that you can nest your empty smaller suitcases inside the larger ones too.

Our large suitcase didn't fit under the bed. :( We alternated putting it on the verandah (which isn't allowed) and in the shower.

We put our large suitcase in the closet and the medium sized one under the bed. with the hard case suitcase.. open it up to minimize the bulkiness and then slide it under the bed.

We have really big suitcases. Even opened, they would not fit under the bed. We ended up sticking them between the bed and the wall. It was a cat 10 room. The space between the bed and the wall wasn't really wide enough to walk anyway. I just needed to climb over the bed to get out.

Ours luggage is really large (deep) and didn't fit under the bed so we had to climb over them all week - well, one we kept on top of the coffee table:rotfl: ... Our rolling garment bag & our DS's smaller bag fit in the closet... NEXT summer however, I am going to use 2 smaller suitcases that I now know will fit in the closet (26" ones) and a couple of large duffles that I know will either smush down to go under the bed or which will make a smaller footprint in the floor if I need to leave them out!:thumbsup2

I think on the NEW ships, DCL should make a luggage storage area. I know I would pay money if given the option to store the luggage somewhere. This could be an option that one could payfor. Only after a few cruises, I bet they would make enough money to pay for the space.:hippie:

My large cases do not fit under the bed, we nest them near verandah.

A note about the big suitcases - some airlines charge fees if the suitcases weigh too much (50lbs+ maybe?).

We brought six cases but 3 were duffles so they were flat when unpacked. I really like the rolling duffles and never had a problem with them. We take 2 hard-sided suitcases (not gigantic ones but one big and one small) for things we think are more fragile. Also we bring an extra soft duffle (doesn't roll) for putting dirty clothes to free up space in the other packs for purchases.

Our suitcases are large and didn't fit under the bed just by sliding them.

TIP- if you lift the bed and slide the suitcase under, most will fit. The sides of the bed come down further than the mattress. We fit all suitcases under the bed - four suitcases and one garment bag.

there is plenty of room in the closets if they don't fit under the bed.

and you'll have storage space betweent the bathroom and the closet - where the door would be in a regular 11. This is our cabin preference now. Much more USEABLE space.

:lmao: Our suitcases are bigger than that closet! Seriously - last time we took 1 rolling garment bag and DH and myself have 2 large 30" cases that are about 15" or 16" deep....plus a 26" one for our DS + our carryons.....all we could fit in that closet was DS's 26" and the rolling garment bag....that's it. This was packing for a 10 day trip. (They did not fit under the bed either.)

Next year for 10 days I am going to take (2) 26" suitcases & try a couple of large duffles in place of the (2) 30" suitcases as they pack differently (I think they hold more) and they weigh less to start with. One of our 30" bags weighs 16 Lbs EMPTY! So I am almost always over the 50 Lb limit when we fly. It's a good bag and will last forever - but now that they've lowered the LB limit on the airlines it's become a pain in my tush. I bought a 15 x 30 x 14" duffle at TJ Maxx for $50 that only weighs 9 Lbs (I priced it out online for $99 & it supposedly retails for $200) and I found another 27 x 14 x 14" duffle that only weighs 8 Lbs from ebags.com on closeout for $45 - I can't wait to use this one as it not only zips open on the top, but the zippers continue down one side too - so you can get into the stacks from the side & don't have to dig down from the top! We also always pack 1 very smushable 25" lightweight duffle empty to bring home as a hamper! But anyway, we found the storage in that closet to be laughable!

What size is considered "large"? Would for instance, a 26 inch suitcase fit under the bed? We have 26" soft sided samsonites.....would they both fit?

Thanks,
Crissi

IMO 26" is a small bag...but some are wider than others which is helpful. Our DS's 26" is a Samsonite & is a little wider than some are made these days and it's probably about 10" deep...that should fit under the bed - esp. if you open it. We were able to put his under the bed at the Old Key West resort this summer by leaving it open, but it wouldn't fit closed. Our 30" ones were too deep, even open... Proportionally, I doubt most 26" ones are deeper than 10" so you should be fine if you leave them open...:thumbsup2

I have a 28" suitcase, and I open it up and slip it under the bed. Takes up more room under the bed, but it's not near as thick and that's what makes it fit.

Would a suitcase that is 12" deep fit under the bed? I think the length is 28".
Thanks so much.
