DVDs onto Ipod??

Can anyone tell me how to do this? I assumed it would be just like doing it with a cd but when I put a dvd into the pc it just gives me playing options, not a download to itunes option.
Someone's told me I have to convert it or something but I really wouldn't have a clue where to start.

there are numerous freeware programs plus many you can buy that will strip out the relevant parts of the disc for you to copy across to the ipod just google ipod and dvds
