We purchased the 2007 version of Birnbaum for our last cruise (our first), but now it is missing (I think I loaned to someone at my previous company).

I need to purchase a new one to plan for a 7-day Eastern Trip, and I am trying to figure out which of these two might be better. Any thoughts appreciated - thanks!

Had Birnbaum for my first cruise (premium for booking with AAA) but loaned it out. Just got a Passporter, and love it!! Much more detail, well worth the extra to get it! Only thing I miss is the pretty color pics in Birnbaums.

Passporter absolutely!!!!

The Birnbaum one is like a travel leaflet compared to the Passporter!!!

besides they also have a site and message board if you have other questions... as if you wouldn't get EVERYTHING you'd need and more right here!!!

If you're going to WDW...Birnbaum by a hair.

If you're going DCL..it's not even close...Passporter.

Passporter. Birnbaum is just a big, expensive travel brochure.

No debate - Passporter's. SO much detailed info! Totally worth every penny!

Have to do a dance:dance3: as this may be my last post before I cruise...doing the Oct. 20th Western!

Do you get the feeling that Passporter is the hands-down favorite? :) It gets my vote, too. Extremely useful info.

We're going on DCL in October '08'... Should I get one now or wait until 2008 comes out?

Color is pretty ... but color printing is expensive, and it doesn't make the information any more valuable.

The new DCL passporter comes out in January if you can wait that long.

If you have no clue what you are doing whatsoever, I would get a used (or look at you local library) Birnbaum, since it is a nice 101 on what to expect. But if you want the meat and potatoes and more details I would buy the Passporter.

The above is based on my personal experience. On our first cruise I had this board and then bought Birnbaum. I then found a 2007 copy of the Passporter at my local library. It was so in-depth I felt I would have been slightly overwhelmed if I hadne't read the Birnbaum first.

If I had to get a book for WDW, I'd get the Unofficial Guide for that, but I just this morning looked at Birnbaums' at the bookstore and it's a joke compared to the Passporter for DCL. I got Passporter from the library.

The new DCL passporter comes out in January if you can wait that long.

I would also suggest that you wait until the 2008 Passporter comes out.

As for which book to use for WDW (I think someone asked.), go with the Unofficial Guide.

2 suggestions...

First...

Check out your local library...

They may have to request whatever it is you look for from another branch or whatever... but you can get any and all you can get - BUT... they may be last years or even before copies... it will at least give you an idea what the books are like. (btw... just don't highlight them... they get really picky about that!!! ;) )

The other thing is hit either Barnes and Noble or Borders - find one of those comfy chairs and camp out for a while and peruse what they've got... they may not have everything you are looking for, but they usually have a section just for Orlando, etc (next to the FL section) so you can see what's out there.

Then just pick what you like.

Then come back to the Dis boards and learn the rest.... :goodvibes
