Holiday Carol Swap Active, Mail by November 29

Since this is getting a late start, there are a few changes to my normal swap requirements. You will be required to send them to me via Priority mail WITH Delivery Confirmation if you send the week they are due. You can still use First Class package with Delivery Confirmation if you are done early and send before the due week. I will return them to you the way you wish.

Pick your carol/song.

You may sign up for more than one group. Just don’t sign up for more than you can know you can get done in five weeks. These really don’t take long to do, once you figure out how you want to layout your lyrics.

Make enough for every person in your group. Completed carols must be 8 ½” x 5 ½”.

Use cardstock and layer at least once plus one embellishment. You can embellish any way you choose, but be C-R-E-A-T-I-V-E!!!

SENDING & RECEIVING: Mail date is no later than November 29, 2007. Mail all the copies of the carols you do. You will get one of yours back. These must be in mail, Priority with DC, by November 29th. I will mail out all swaps on December 5, 2007.

Label your carols with your Dis name, real name, and group number. Put your carols in a plastic bag larger than the carols. Individual zip bags will leave lines on the carols if they are too small. I will PM you the shipping address after posting the progress thread. If you choose priority shipping, I will get priority envelopes at the post office and then do the priority-shipping label online to get free delivery confirmation for you. So send a check, stamp, or cash (if you prefer) for $4.60. Please don’t send metered or click-it/ship-it postage – some hostesses have had issues with these.

Staples sells the binders and the plastic sheet protectors for this size page. Hobby Lobby also carries scrapbooks in this size.

I've been wanting this one!

Group 1 - O Holy Night (my very favorite carol of all times)
Group 2 - Up on the Housetop

Can we assume that group 1 would be religious and group 2 secular?????

hopemax
10-17-2007, 03:12 PM
That's how I picked mine. I figured there would be people that would want one or the other. Since AWM had a religious carol in group 1, that's where I put mine.

AlexWyattMommy
10-17-2007, 03:16 PM
Okay, uhm yeah, that was the plan. :rotfl2:

I like that idea. I will go with it. The first one is religious, the second is secular.

I will be happy to open up more groups as needed. This is a simple one to swap out.

Ok, I wasn't going to do any more thins year but I figure this would be a spectacular Christmas gift for my sister in law. So can I have

Group 1: The First Noel
Group 2: Frosty the Snowman
Group 4: Silver Bells

AWM - I will get these done and mail with the Surprise Swap if that is ok

AlexWyattMommy
10-17-2007, 05:57 PM
You can get them done that soon?
I am all about saving money, send with my stuff!

KatDisney

Yup I'm playing hookie from work on Friday! Starting Thursday night until Sunday I am finishing all my swaps. Good reason to get me that Christmas cart!

I have them all ready to print.

TPCShauna

I would like:

Religious Group 2 - O Holy Night
Secular Group 2 - Carol of the Bells (Ukranian Bell Carol)
Secular Group 3 (If you have one) The Christmas Song

TPCShauna

This is a great idea! I just have one question regarding the page protectors you mentioned. Can they hold lumpy embellishments? The only kind that I've seen that hold the 8 1/2 by 5 1/2 pages are a pretty tight fit for flat stuff. I just want to know how much leeway I have in designing.

Also, are we pretty much planning to make these all horizontally oriented? I guess it would be fine to do a vertical layout but that would mean flipping the book. Not that it's a bad thing to flip the book. I just had to ask because that's how my mind works.

hopemax
10-17-2007, 06:40 PM
Oh, that's a good idea...mail with the Surprise swap!

I plan on working on these on Friday night while DH is out gaming.

AlexWyattMommy
10-17-2007, 06:47 PM
The ones I got from Hobby Lobby will hold lumpy ones just fine. I don't have any really lumpy recipe ones. The lumpiest had some layers, brads, fringy fiber and it fit just fine.

What ever way will work best for your lyrics is okay with me. Turning your book to sing from should not be a problem. :thumbsup2

I have to go to school today to set up the Scholastic's Book Fair. It will be an ALL day things. Ugh.

So I will update this when I get back around suppertime EST.

Please feel free to sign up for as much as you want. I will happy to open up more groups when I get back to accommodate everyone. :lmao:

I can't help myself -- I love Christmas songs. I want to do two more!

Secular -- Must be Santa (DD did this at a Christmas show last year and sang it for me again last night with motions and all and I just love it!!!)
Religious -- Hark! The Herald Angels Sing (I know just the paper).

AlexWyattMommy
10-18-2007, 03:35 PM

I will not be increasing the numbers, so those that are full are set to go.
I will combine as necessary if acceptable.

Tiggermei, did you realise you're going to have 2 lots of "Hark the herald"? I'm sure they'll both be different though!

My cardstock is on its way :goodvibes so I'll have another spot each in the 2 new groups:

Religious: Once in Royal David's City

Secular : 12 days of Christmas (I know it was originally a Catholic song to remind of the litany during Puritan times but I bet - Michael Caine voice - not a lot of people know that!)

Makes a change form recipes :rotfl:

I certainly don't mind you switching my songs between the groups (because, as you said, I'll still get the same songs:yay: ) but now this means MazdaUK is getting two Hark the Heralds:confused3

With so many people in so many groups, duplicates are going to happen, unless everyone chooses a song that has not already been placed in any group. Just my two cents.:rolleyes1

Totally respecting that this is your swap that I'm getting to play in!

10-19-2007, 09:19 AM
Ha, I knew it was too easy to just switch songs between groups.
I will switch it back, as it was tiggermei who picked the second Hark. I'm sure she can use both or will change her song if she can't.

Will go update. I understand about the song being too long. Unless you make the font itty bitty, which would defeat the purpose of a song book, it won't work.

Let me look at the list and see if I can do a different song. I have some wonderful angel/music paper and want to use it but I'm sure there's another angel song that will be good.

not sure if this would be ok but if we don't fill up the last two groups could Mazdauk and happypooh go from gp 6 to gp 1, hopemax and tiggermei go from gp 6 to 3, and AWM from gp 7 to 4 and happypooh from gp 7 to 5....that would mean gps 1 and 3 making 8 lots and gps 4 and 5 making 7 lots of things but we would all get more??? Am I making sense?? Or are you set on groups of 6?

AlexWyattMommy
10-19-2007, 02:36 PM
I really want to keep the groups limited to six. If nobody else signs up tomorrow, then rlovew will take the number 5 spot and that group would close at 5.

Then you and I can decide if want to just go ahead and make the two for us and swap. Using the dimensions we are, making two will be easy and I don't mind making a small number. And since you are already making other groups, it won't cost that much difference in postage. If it was your only group, I would have tried to put you in a full group.

hopemax
10-19-2007, 02:43 PM

which way do we mount the carol? with the 8.5 side or the 5.5 side horizontal??

AlexWyattMommy
10-20-2007, 07:33 PM
It can be either/or, depending upon your length of lyrics and how you wish to embellish.

Most of the recipes were vertical with 8-1/2 being the length.

I don't think it matters with this book. You will be singing from it, so you can turn it as needed.

I haven't decided how I will layout mine yet. It'll be harder for me to break the vertical mindset. But I will try!! :thumbsup2

Are the albums vertical or horizontal? I just want to be able to put the song book on my piano and flip the pages as needed and not have to take the page protectors out and flip them on their side..if that makes any sense! I did see one album at our LSS which was horizontal 9x6..are the albums at staples different? I don't think we have Hobby Lobby in michigan or at least I haven't seen one. I didn't see any albums at Michaels today that were that size...only 8x8...I'm wondering if I should get a zutter and try and hand cut an album...any one have one of those?? Are they worth it? Sorry for being abit off topic but I want to figure this out before I start sorting out layouts for this swap.

I don't have any pictures but the books from Staples are the opposite-the spine is on the longer side. That being said, because they are songs they would work either direction in either book :)

The Staples ones are more like a ring binder (perhaps because they are a ring binder:lmao: ) and they have a clear cover over a white cover so you can slide in a decorative cover (and spine if you can be bothered:rolleyes1 )

I've got two wth recipes so it will be nice to have the songs in a different format:goodvibes Stop me tring to sing "CRT potatoes":lmao:

Given the format of the book I'll be trying to do horizontal lo's so the book will rest on my piano or music stand or floor while we sing! Now have to figure out how to print in columns on wordpad!

I'm afraid mine are vertical as they've literally just printed out :headache:

I did try horizontal for one but couldn't get it to fit:sad2:

The 2 I've done already are both vertical.

Staples has the binder type holder that is meant for vertical. I've not seen it, but some one else said they have a pocket on the cover to slip in a pretty cover paper.

The one from staples is exactly like the 3 ring school binders with the clear plastic cover over the regular cover, only the book is the smaller size. Which is nice for making a special cover

http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StaplesProductDisplay?&langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&productId=84652&cmArea=ATCH:SC1:CG2:DP3721:CL158855:SKU|85773|cmS

hmm... maybe this will work, if it doesn't i'll take it out, it's the link (i hope) to the staples one, the binder pictured is a the regular size binder, so it looks bigger than what it really is

well it works if you copy and paste the link, hope this helps anybody still confused on the staples kind, dh lost the camera so i can't post pics of mine...

I am trying to decide between-

Let There be Peace on Earth
I Want a Hippopotamuas for Christmas
and
All I want for Christmas is my 2 front Teeth

I think I am going out to the store today- if DH decides to wake up from his nap so if I find the perfect embellishment or paper then it will make my decision easy otherwise I will have to think some more about what would be the cutest.

Here's the deal. I really, really love O Holy Night. It is my all-time favorite religious carol and one that I absolutely want to be in my carol book.

I know there are people in my Religious group that are in another group with someone doing the same song but I have wracked my brain trying to come up with a different carol. All of the ones that I like have been taking by others in my group or the first group.

So, I need help. I would like to finish my last group this weekend but I don't know what to do for it. I would like to do O Holy Night but don't know what to do for the rest of y'all that woudl be getting duplicates.

Please help!

Just make what you signed up for. You shouldn't need to be stressing about something that was supposed to be fun.

I will see if I can find some from Group 6 to switch with rlovew & liv4diz in Group 3.
