If the plan was to make these like the recipe swaps - 5-1/2 x 8-1/2, lyrics, pretty paper, and embellishments - I'd be happy to substitute hostess if Susie doesn't feel up to it this year and hand it back next year.
I would want to do sign ups right away so everyone could get started and have them back to me the last week of November so I could get them to you the first week of December. In time to carol from them.

You will typing a Christmas Carol on half of and 8 1/2 by 11 paper and then cutting that down a little bit and putting it onto another piece of 8 1/2 by 5 1/2. You will then decorate it to go with the carol. You use embellishments similar to any other swap. If you look back at our recipe swap photos it will give you an idea of what to do.

You then will have a beautifully decorated book of Christmas Carols. I just buy the right size album and slip the pages in.

Depending upon the length of lyrics you choose, you can get two, three or maybe four out of a single 8-1/2 x 11 by using columns. Then take 3 more sheets of 8-1/2 x 11 (same or different color from lyrics) and cut them so that they are 8-1/2 x 5-1/2. You have your 6 bases to work from. Then embellish or layer up to your lyrics. Looking at the past recipe ideas, as rlovew said, will give you a good idea as how to do this. Ribbon, brads, eyelets, die cuts, really pretty paper are all good embellishments.

I had sent a message to SusieStone before the original sign ups about what her plans were for the swap. If I didn't misunderstand, she said that she had originally planned to do them similar to the recipes. However, she was also thinking of having the title, lyrics, and embellishments separate so that people could decide on their own whether they wanted the recipe size or if they wanted to even do them 12 x 12 when they received them. Of course, the new hostess doesn't have to do this or anything, it's just another idea.

That sounds like a good idea for next year. With the time constrant for this year, it was just easier to copy & paste your recipe instructions. ;)
Having the smaller size already ready to go will make the songs usable this year.
So I'll leave the cool idea for Susie to do.
