I see that some people tip the housecleaning staff. How do you leave the tip? Do you put a note on it designating it as a tip for them??

I may get bashed for this-but why leave a tip? The mousekeepers are doing a job that they are getting paid for. I's sure that they get a decent wage. I don't tip, and have never received poor mousekeeping service

Yes, you can tell a mousekeeper by the fine jewelry and BMW he/she drives:rolleyes1 ...housekeepers, contrary to popular opinion, don't make a whole lot of money and the tips come in handy. A few dollars a day in an envelope would suffice, or you could leave an envelope with the total accrued at the end of your stay, but that would only pay the lucky one to clean your room that day - who probably will do the most work anyway, however.:woohoo:

Wow, I had no idea there were people out there that didn't tip even a little bit. We always tip - it's pretty standard in the service industry. We usually leave a few dollars on the nightstand before we leave on the last day.
And this isn't Disney specific - you should tip housekeeping in ANY hotel you stay in.

We stay DVC and generally have only one-two Mousekeeping visits, but we leave the tip folded inside the little card with the name of the Mousekeeper before we check out. In a hotel with daily service I leave it in plain sight. I've never had a maid touch money I've left out during my stay -- I often leave change on the desk -- so I tip at the end of the stay, leaving cash on the desk or table.

I had my kids make up little envelopes with Disney stickers and "Mousekeeping" on the front and left a few dollars each day.
We also brought a couple special "Canadian treats" to leave on a few days.
The kids had fun making them and thought it was special

I make envelopes before my trip from THIS (http://arwolff.com/heidi/) website. She even has holiday ones. It's a fun part of my pre-planning.
I like to tip daily and have the envelopes ready for my trip.
I leave them on the bathroom mirror. They are always taken.
OP didn't ask if she 'should' tip but asked 'how'.

We always tip $3.00 a day for the two of us, plus we leave a "thank you" note. We have never had a problem when we need something extra from housekeeping. Being nice does have its perks.

I second leaving $3 per day for DH and myself. I figure DH and I get kinda messy when we leave out in a flash for the parks. I make up envelopes for each day like the ones posted on the site above. In fact, I just finished filling them today for our trip in 4 days. We keep them in the safe and leave one out each morning for our Mousekeeper :)

Those envelopes are a great idea. I always tip daily whenever we stay in a hotel.:)

I leave a tip because I appreciate the job they do.:thumbsup2
Here's another site that has cute tip envelopes.

DH and I leave our tips in the Mousekeeping envelopes, too, and I've passed along the tradition to our grown kids.

We go at Christmas and have a seperate stocking that says mousekeeping on it. We leave $5 a day for the two of us in the stocking. We had one mousekeeper that didn't speak english and had to show it to her but the rest of the time it was taken with no problem.

We also make up envelopes with Disney Characters on them before our trip.
We tip each day and the girls also write a little note on the envelopes.
Each day we have always gotten more towel animals which the girls are always excited about.
Not sure if it is due to the daily tipping but I am sure it doesnt hurt.

We also leave a tip every day. Our rule of thumb is to leave $1.00 per person staying in the room per night.

The kids and I had great fun making our mousekeeping envelopes, and kind of used it as a "trip countdown". We get paid every two weeks, so we figured out how many nights we would be staying then counted back that number of paydays.
Each payday, we would go to the mouseforless site and the kids would pick out an envelope design. We printed it out, folded it up, and stuck a $5 bill in it, then sealed it closed with a Disney sticker. Finally, we put the finished envelope into our Passporter. By the time it was time to go, each day's pocket in the Passporter had a tip envelope in it, all ready to go.
Each morning, before we left the room, we set the tip out on the table; the envelopes are addressed "To Mousekeeping" and we would sign them from our family.

We always tip. We make up business cards that has goofy and tinkerbell on them that say " For our Mousekeeper" and we lay it on the bed for them daily. We always get a return note back saying thank you.

What a great idea to print or make envelopes for the Mousekeepers!!! My daughter will be doing this for our trip the end of Nov. Thanks for the ideas!:cheer2:

We tip housekeeping every day as well. I used to know someone who did this years ago and she suggested to tip a little everyday instead of just once at the end since staff sometimes changes during your stay.
BTW, we also tip DME.
It may not make a difference in service, but it makes me feel better!

We tip with an envelope left on the table that says Thanks Mousekeeping. One of the DISigners on the DISign thread makes mousekeeping envelopes for specific resorts.

I may get bashed for this-but why leave a tip? For the same reason you tip a waiter or waitress. They're performing a service for you. How much you feel that service is worth is what shows up in the amount you tip. Apparently you don't feel this service is worth anything, but I bet you'd miss it if they stopped doing it.
ETA: We have our pre-printed Mousekeeping envelopes already made up and ready to go! We're leaving $5 a day for the three of us.

We usually tip the dollar per person per night and leave it each day. We Use the towel animals to "hold" the $$. We've almost always had one in the room at check in - so we use it as our tip holder and set it on bed when we go out each morning.

We plan to "borrow" the mousekeeping envelope idea during our next stay. :thumbsup2 Thanks!

In a regular hotel room, I always tip on the last day $10-20 total depending on the room and length of stay, my question is for other DVC Members. We are staying 7 nights, so they'll only do "trash and towel service" on the 4th day and nothing else. I usually leave a tip for them when we're checking out because we leave the place in such a mess but since they're not daily and they don't even do a cleaning once, what would you leave for one week with the day you're leaving being the only day they're really cleaning? Does any part of our dues cover housekeeping?

We made up enveloped beforehand and wrote Mousekeeping on the front. Put $1 a person (5 of us) a day in. Wrote Thanks or when she had the day off we told her (when she came back) that we missed her. We had the most Amazing Towel creations. Our room was always done up spectacular! We stayed for 12 days so $60 was worth the look on the kids faces when we would return to see what 'surprises' she left for us that day.

Our dd 11 has the job of premaking all the mousekeeping envelopes. She puts 5 dollars in each and writes mousekeeping on them and decorates as she pleases. When we arrive at WDW she is responsible for taping the envelopes on the mirror.
We never have a problem with extra towels or pillows or whatever we happen to need. We really appreciate our mousekeeping staff. They are so nice.
Our last trip to Pop Century we really got acquainted with our mousekeeper. She made special towel dolls for our dd11.

I tip daily vs at the end of our stay because I'm always afraid that it won't be the same housekeeper for the entire stay. There is usually a pen and paper in the room. I fold the paper in half around the tip and write "housekeeping" on the paper.

We were planning to leave $2/day (there are just 2 of us) and leave it each day, rather than a lump sum at the end of our trip. We weren't sure if you get the same mousekeeper each day or if they rotate and thought this was the most fair way.
Just found the link for those premade envelopes-they are so cute!! We are definately going to use them.
