Well it looks like I have developed another bowel obstruction, like I did this past May, and am being admitted "stat" :sad2: and I refuse to spend another 19 days like the last time :lmao:
Since we moved, I am now having to go to a hospital I am unfamiliar with and not sure if they allow laptops or not. In the past, it was no big deal because hubby worked at the hospital, now I do not have that luxury. So hubby will bring me my laptop after he gets off work and leave it there and then I can use it to get on to VMK, post updates, and get this weekend's pin, even if I have sneak on during shift changes or as soon as VMK opens.

Tigger, I'm so sorry to hear that. This summer really sucked for me too.
3 trips to the ER
3 hospital stays
2 operations.
I hope you are better soon. Lots of love and hugs.

Oh no! Get better quickly! I can slightly understand your situation as I've had an emergency room visit, many -osocopy procedures, and 2 surgeries within this past year. I've been having health problems for over 2.5 years now and it stunk because all of this started during my senior year of college! This was before I had discovered VMK and I think if I had to spend my time in the hospital, that'd be one thing about which I'd be concerned, haha. Hopefully you can have the laptop to help pass the time and keep you as comfortable as possible. Recover quickly!

First things first. I want to thank you all for your :goodvibes , healthy thoughts and lots of pixiedust: It was 11pm last night before they had finished getting things initiated that the Dr had ordered. Of course there is always some hiccup and this happened to be a pretty major one.
I had a port-a-cath (Life Port) put in on Sept 4th, specifically for using on THESES occasions. Well, apparently since I will be getting TPN therapy, they had to put in a PICC line to handle just for the TPN and blood draw. Guess they are just using my "port" for medications, potassium, and PCA (Patient Controlled Analgesic system).
I was able to hop online this morning, only because I did noit have a roommate and *now* I do, and get this weekend's pins, but I just need to try and remember how many I bought :lmao: :lmao: Just have to  this pain medication :yay: :dance3: :yay: I also have to ask my roommate if she is expecting/planning on phone calls, as my use of the laptop and using Dial-up, cuts off ALL calls coming in to this room :headache: :rolleyes1

Thank you for your :goodvibes and well wishes, as they are very much appreciated.
A "bowel" is another term for intestine. The word *bowel* is generally used in conjunction or in reference to *bowel obstruction* or *bowel illeus* (ileius = the intestines are asleep)
We will now leave Tigger's Anatomy :rotfl2: :rotfl2: and return you to your local broadcastuing. Grab the flashlight and head off around the corner.

Feel better, Tigger. You know I'm thinking of you. If you need anything send me an email since I'm not at home this weekend and it took me a while to remember the address for this site since it's saved to "favorites" on my lagtop.
Sorry to hear they had to insert a PICC line now, but I see from your treatments that it was necessary. You also won't have to have your IV access changed every three days so that's a plus. I hope your bowels behave and that you're out soon.

I am ready to leave this place despite just arriving here :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Can not blame it on the food service, as they have had me NPO since arriving/Still have lots of boxes to unpack and get everything put in place. This place just gives me the willies :maleficen
Seems that the Dr has decided to start me on "protonix" and then 2 hrs after that, he will take out the NG tube ??? Then 2 hrs after taking out the NG tube, he is going to start the TPN therapy :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 I have always been on TPN therapy and had ng tube at the same time. I guess I might be going MAD !!!
I have been trying to get on to VMK since yesterday and have had no luck, so I am just going to chalk it up to last May's experience of: no host prize, no pins, no hats, no clothes, no nothing  .... then I will not be so heartbroken :sad1:
Until I can get on VMK/DIS boards again or on to some other site, like, possible even my OWN EMAIL, LOL:rotfl2: :headache: :rotfl2: :headache: :rotfl2:

Since Mom & I are in the same hospital and when people ask how mom is doing, they often are asking how I am doing as well. I thought it just might be easier to combine the two threads ... :thanks: :disrocks:

I want to first apologize for my lack of postings, but they had to move me to another room and my fellow roommate was constantly getting phone calls, so I could not use my laptop at all. I missed out on so much Halloween stuff it is not even funny :sad2: Okay so let me get everyone caught up to speed:
I was finally released late Wednesday evening, after a little false alarm. My intestines had started working again, but as soon as they allowed me to eat regular food, they started shutting down again. With much persistence on my part, the Dr. did allow me to go home :cool1: I was barely home 24hrs and I was back in the ER because pus was coming out of the site where they had inserted the PICC line. So there I was, trapped in the ER, for almost 24hrs, getting IV antibiotics. It felt FANTASTIC to finally be home, but it killed me to leave my mother lying in ICU, still in a coma
This is where it all gets very emotional and complicated.
** Let me just say that my mom has an advance directive that clearly states that she would NOT want ANY of the things that are being done to her, to prolong her life, but my dad has the final say **
On the 23rd they started weaning her off the seizure medication, Ativant, and
began to give her Dilantin, to control the seizures and get her out of the coma. On the 25th, we were told that she was paralyzed on her left side, it was HIGHLY doubtful that she would regain consciousness and even if she did, she would have to be "institutionalized" because she would never be able to breath on her own, and her "mental state" would be that of almost vegetative.
On this past Saturday, Dad and I went in to see Mom to basically say our "goodbyes" and we walk in and her eyes are open :goodvibes I am thinking it is a miracle and I am not going to lose my Mom after all :yay: However, the Dr advised us that she had aspirated her own vomit and was having a harder time with her lungs and she was not following commands. I kind of chalked the non-command deal to her *just* coming out of the coma, but after I went in today, Sunday, and sat with her for almost 2 hrs, I knew she was not understanding anything I was saying. She would look directly at me when I talked to her, but it was like she was looking right through me. The Dr did come in while I was there and reiterated that Mom was NEVER going to be Mom again.
So I headed on home and stopped by to let Dad know how Mom was doing and really talked to him about how the decisions he was making were going against Mom's *wishes* to die with dignity. I totally understand my Dad's unwillingness to let go, as they have been married 56 years. We came to the conclusion that we will talk with *her private* Neurologist tomorrow and get HER opinion, rather than a "hospitalist" who does not know my Mom at all. If she says the same thing that the Drs have been telling us, then we will let Mom go home to God.
I just ask that you keep my Mom, Beverly, in your thoughts and prayers and help us to make the right decision that is best for her. :sad1:
With  and
Lyn
