Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

7 miles today in 1:28:45 for a 12:41 pace...about 2 1/2 minutes longer than my last 7, but we were back with life-altering humidity this morning.

Words of wisdom...Lee Roy Selmon's ribs might be very tasty, but should not be eaten as a pre-LR dinner :sad2:

Mel, I know exactly what you mean about the humidity! I was planning on a good run today as a final tune-up for next Saturday's 10 mile (Ten for Texas) race. I opened the door this morning to a wave of warm humidity, and may have been sweating before I left the driveway.

In any case I still beat my goal of running 6.5 miles in a 12:30 average pace by running at a 12:28 average pace! I ran the second mile in 11:43 and actually made a concious effort not to run too fast. It was a very good run, perhaps even more so because of the horrible running weather.

Now I am looking forward to next weekend's race after the cooler weather also comes through.

Heyt here team!!!!

We have got some wicked humidity also...not normal for southern Ontario in October, even the nights are too hot for a good sleep.

Anyways, no training to report for me, this is Thanksgiving weekend in Canada so will be doing a bit of heavy eating today.....turkey, stuffin, pumpkin pie....yummmmmmmmm

Hope everyone has a awesome weekend.

Good morning WISH Team.

I'm 56 today, can't believe I've lived that long with some of the crazy crap I've done. I'm the poster child for "God looks after fools and little children".

I have a question for any massage vets on here. Yesterday I took a rest day and had a long soak in the hot whirlpool. I used the jets of water to massage my legs since they were feeling a little sore. The jets of water are pretty strong but not uncomfortably so, but this morning my legs are very sore. Is that normal for a deep massage when you haven't had one for a while?

Today will be a complete rest day.:cloud9:

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: for our WISH team racing this weekend.

Erica is working a 14 hour shift and wanted me to say "Hi WISH Team" for her.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Good morning.

Well, Saturday is my first marathon. I'll start it, but have little to no faith I'll finish.

My IT band is really hurts during workouts. (Day to day use is A-OK.) I injured it during the first week of my taper.:guilty: I can go 8 strong miles pain free. I've made it to 15 miles before I have to quit. :sad1:

So, (sigh), we'll see. I've got a normal SW on Tuesday, easy shorter walk on Thursday, then the race on Saturday. In between it's rest, ice, and stretch. I'll be wearing an elastic support (the kind with a hole for my patella) during the race.

Wish me luck.

Kelley--Good luck to you! PD that your IT band holds up for your race:wizard:

Dave--Happy Birthday!:dance3: Hope you have a wonderful day! Behave yourself!;)

Kim--Have a wonderful Canadian Thanksgiving!

And let me say, I'm another that can't believe this "fall-like" weather here in Arkansas. It was around 90 yesterday!!!!:scared1: I just let the dog out, and I told DH that I should get a little chill opening the door in Oct, not recoil over how humid/hot it is already. We're normally in the 50s in the mornings at this time of year, and right now it's in the 70s. Just glad my marathon training is on hiatus for a couple weeks, in order to recover as fully as possible from last weekend. Hopefully, it will have cooled down by then.

Quick question--just so I have my calendar straight--for those of ya'll doing the 18 week training plans for Disney--what week are we on now?? TIA

Have a great Sunday all! PD for all those battling injuries at the moment, seems like they're running rampant right now!

--- Happy Birthday. :bday:

[B]Kelley---Good luck in Baltimore. I am doing the half but with the staggered start I doubt that we will see each other.

Kim---Happy Thanksgiving.

Central PA has also been having the heat and humidity. Though yesterday it was hot but less humid and I did my 8 mile LW early so it didn't bother me to much.

Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

Thank you for the birthday WISHes. No I will not behave.pirate:

Kim happy Thanksgiving.:yay:

Kelley, be careful pretty princess. Hope your ITB feels better. I have problems with that also. I use a rolling pin to massage it out when it feels to tight. (RedNeck Therapy), but it works.

Terri and Nancy thank you.

Nucpharm29, I to am getting tired of the darn humidity. But some of the WISHers are already watching it snow.

Hi everyone!

I've been getting my training in but I've been kind of down lately. DH's job may be on the line. We'll find out Tuesday. He's been working with the same company for 27 years and the company is going through reorganization. Steve has always had high rankings when it comes to job performance but that means absolutely nothing right now. Rumor is that the company is looking to nix some of the higher paid employees and Steve is one of those in his category. Please keep your fingers crossed for him. Thanks!

Cam - Ouch on the back! I hope the doctors can figure out what's wrong and get you on the road to recovery, fast! Sending you lots of :wizard:  :wizard: and :goodvibes .

Sunny - :wizard: for you as well. How long does it take for the wires to hold? Sending :wizard: to speed up the process. hug:

Colleen - Reading your posts just makes me mad (regarding the doctors). Glad Fleetfeet folks were able to help recommend another Ortho.

Jen in GA - It's hard not to be whiney when you're not feeling well. Sending some :wizard: and virtual chicken soup your way.

Judy- congrats on your PR! It wasn't that long ago that you couldn't train with your injuries. WTG!!!

Tricia - we know you will be with us in spirit this January. I wish you could be there as well.

Christa - great job on mastering the beast, er, hill - with speedy times!

MelR - good to hear from you. Do you still work at the bike shop?

Renee - great job on the 14 miler. Geez. I'm training for the marathon, too, and I haven't run more than 9 miles yet. Uh, oh.

Jen - how was the 108 laps? I've been doing my training on the treadmill because of my feet issues. (Softer surface). I don't know which is worse, the laps or the "dread"mill.

wwDave - :bday: The old saying still holds true - you're not getting older, you're getting better! We will help you celebrate at the ToT!

Kelley - I wish I could send you my massage therapist. She is super with problematic areas. Sending you lots of :wizard: for your marathon. Does going a little slower help at all?

For all those nursing injuries, colds or other issues, here's some :wizard: and :goodvibes for you.

Hope everyone has a good and safe week!

Monte - I meant to tell you congratulations on completing the marathon. You completed a MARATHON! 26.2 miles! :cool1: :thumbsup2  No one can ever take that away from you. No doubt that you will be able to do the Mickey in January! See you there!

Laurie - awesome times! You really kicked it in for that last mile. I usually run out of energy by then. :upsidedow

Ok...time to catch up!

lourodrigis--We deserve to have it rubbed in that the Mets collapsed, it was awful!!! Sorry about your Phillies, I was pulling for them as well..a phillies-yanks world series would have been great, oh well! Hope your LBI race went well this weekend!

Cam--I hope your back is feeling better soon..I was in pain just reading about how much pain you are in. Hang in there! :wizard:

Jackie--Go Helio! I am not really an Indy Car fan (I Love Nascar!) but I am pulling for Helio...he is doing great so far! Hope the broken foot is all healed soon. :wizard:

Lily--Hope your half marathon went well this weekend!

Tricia--don't worry so much about your time, as long as you are getting the miles in. If that works for you then go with it!! Keep up the good work! Also, I used the Hal Higdon novice half marathon plan for my half in April, and now I am using his marathon plan for the WDW marathon. I really like his training plans, and they have been great for me! The most I ran before my half was 11 miles and I was fine finishing.

Stephanie-I hope you and your DH are feeling better and you are back to getting those workouts in real soon.

Colleen--I have no experience with Steroid injections, so I can't offer any advice there. Glad you went to get a second opinion and may finally get to the bottom of the pain. Hang in there!

monte--that video makes me laugh everytime I see it! I really hope I don't feel like that in January!!!

Cecilia--Glad to hear that you are getting your training despite a busy schedule. WTG for changing things up based on how your body is feeling.

Leana--Great job on your training, doesn't it feel great when you see improvement!! Also, Good luck on your upcoming exam!

Renee--Great job on your LR!! You are going to do great at the marathon!!! Keep up the good work!

Christa--WOW! What an awesome LR, you are super speedy! Keep up the good work!

Jen--Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. :wizard: Hope you feel better soon!!

Vic--Great job on your runs this past week!

Dave--Happy Birthday!!!!

Mel--Great job on your 7 miler!

Coco--Great job on your run! Good Luck in your 10 miler next weekend!

Kim--Enjoy the Thanksgiving weekend!!!

Kelley--Sorry to hear about your injury...I hope you are feeling better soon. Good Luck next weekend, and definetely listen to your body!

Susie--sorry to hear about DH's job situation...I can only imagine that it must be very stressful for your family. Hope everything works out for the best.

Wow! that is a long post for me, but I wanted to catch up with everyone! I hope everyone had great workouts this weekend!! keep up the good work!

Just a quick drive by to say I saw Texas Belle and her family at Animal Kingdom yesterday. Though I couldn't remember their name. I walked by and was like...hmmm....that guy looks familiar. Turned around and saw Texas Belle.

Dave--for an intensely deep massage, you can get sore muscles--if you don't drink enough water after the fact. They are breaking up the lactic acid and toxins and that all needs to leave your body. So that could be why you are even more sore than the day before. Actually--depending on how deep--you WILL get sore muscles if you aren't careful.

I have had my share of deep massage work done (my deepest being a hot stone massage a couple of weeks ago--absolutely wonderful...but boy was it painful at times). I think I drink more water from those than I do after a 10 mile run. You have to flush everything out. :)

Though honestly--I've never had a water massage that came close to some of the work I have gotten done via massage.

My next investment is a foam roller. My PT has me starting to use one on my IT band. To say it is painful is an understatement. Lots of work to be done on that body part.

And I have had to quit running (at least for this season) and focus on walking. The runnig is interferring with healing. :(

Kim, Happy Thanksgiving, we got together with two other Canadian families last night and had turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie! The host was lamenting how hard it was to find a turkey in the grocery store this time a year.:rotfl:

Stephanie, glad you asked the question on what week people are on doing the 18 week program for Disney. Are you recovered from your marathon?

Nancy, good job on your 8 mile run!:yay:

WWDAve, Happy Birthday!

Lisa, so cool you saw Heather yesterday at AK.

Jackie, how are you?:)

Colleen - Reading your posts just makes me mad (regarding the doctors). Glad Fleetfeet folks were able to help recommend another Ortho.

Susie and Laurie, thanks for your PD on my knee. I did have my 2nd ortho see my knee last week and FINALLY someone decided to take X-rays. They found bone spurs growing on my knee cap. OK, so I have these protrusions scraping on my tendon in my knee. NO wonder I am having pain. Remember this is the ortho that Fleetfeet recommended. I since found out that he is the guy "who will get in back in the game no matter what doc!". He actually told me that I could run the marathon in 3 weeks with a steroid injection. Ok, I am not a professional athlete here and if I need a steroid injection to do the race, should I be running the race? I really didn't want to do permanent damage. I really felt uneasy with the whole thing and with the help and support of my MCM buddies, Jodi, Sara, MSDave, Mike and Chester, I decided to defer my MCM entry until next year and get the surgury to "Dremmel" off my bone spurs and hopefully do a run/walk at Disney.

That being said, I question whether the bone spurs are my only problem and I made an appointment for a 3RD, yes, 3rd orthopedist for Tuesday. I'm hoping to have the surgery next week.

Kelley, so sorry you are feeling pains as well. Deciding not to compete in MCM was a very tough decision after 17 weeks of training, I only had one more 20 LR to complete and I was in taper mode. It was SO tough on my mentally to get my head around the idea that it was OK to not run. Logically, it would have been SO stupid of me to even think about pounding 26 miles out with these bone spurs irritating the entire time, but mentally I really wanted to run. A person also has to think about the damage one does the other body parts when the rest of the body has to take up the slack. So moral of the story, be very careful and listen to your body.

Thanks, everyone, for the support, advice, and PD.

To answer Susie's question, yes. I am planning to go slow. 13:10 is my race pace. 13:30 is my normal training pace. I think I'll keep it around 15:00 for this weekend, just on the outside chance that will allow me to finish.

Stay tuned.

Hummmm, Judy hasn't showed up yet this weekend? Well I guess she figured we would just try to talk her out of it any way. I know it's a night race and all but a walking ala natural is pushing the envelope a bit to far. We really need to talk her out of this.

You didn't hear about thisd from me I'm just an innocent little whisper in your ear.

Colleen - sorry to hear you had to cancel out of MCM. I hope the surgery goes well.

Lisa - I may be doing a lot of walking at the Goofy, too. Although I hope to do some short, easy run sessions in between the walks (for some reason if i try to walk any distance ata fast pace, I can feel the shin splints starting). If I walk then mix in some slow runs, it's not as bad. I'll see how my legs feel after my 1/2 in SF in 2 weeks.

Susie - sending :wizard: for DH's job security.

Gotta run (literally). I'm off to do a 5K (first workout in 10 days since being sick).

Hey Team - Yes I did my 108 laps yesterday which was 9 miles. I had a couple extra laps for my warm up and cool down. And I forgot my MP3 player, so it was a boring couple of hours. I finished with a strong pace of 12:53 average and I could have easily gone farther. I feel good with that since my summer 1/2 marathon training had me going much slower with my PF pain.

WWDave - Happy B-day.

Kelly - GOOD LUCK with your marathon. Take it easy this week.

Mel - Glad to see your pace is picking up. You are doing AWESOME.

Susie - Pixie dust for your family. I really hope everything works out!

OK, DH is napping along with DD4 and DD6 is watching a movie... AHHHHH mom time!

Good afternoon WISH teammates!!!

First: :woohoo: and :cheer2: to all WISHers running races this weekend! You all are great!

Second, I ran 13 miles this morning at the same time my DH was running the BAA 1/2 marathon. The weather was cloudy and misty from time to time and relatively cool. I didn't run the 1/2 marathon as a) I didn't know about it in time to register and b) didn't think I could finish in 2 1/2 hours or less (they close the course after 2 1/2 hours). That's OK as I've got the ToT waiting for me.

Happy Birthday Dave!

Lisa: I've had several massages in my life but never knew about the need to drink lots of water to flush the lactic acid out of the body. Thanks for the tip!

To our friends to the north: Happy Thanksgiving! At least I think it's Thanksgiving in Canada. If it's not, hold the happy's until it is!!

Colleen: keep us posted on how your surgery goes!

escape: I've got my fingers crossed for Steve; it never fails to amaze me that companies feel that eliminating those that are higher paid will help the company. Don't they know realize that they are highly paid for a reason--like they KNOW what they are doing? Sigh. Sending lots of pixie dust your way.

hockeygirl: nice job on the consistent splits! :thumbsup2

Woops--laundry just buzzed so gotta run. I hope everyone has a lovely day!

Sorry about having to withdraw from Marine Corps. Only you can make that decision, and I know you must have agonized over it. I'm assuming the surgery will be minimally invasive (scope), so hopefully you'll be back in the game soon.

Will we see you in Orlando in January?

Dave

Happy birthday to you. I'm always happy to acknowledge the senior statesman of the group, especially since it isn't me. Does this mean you're finally old enough to have a beer?

Martha

Like I said last week, you are kicking butt and taking names.

I ran the BAA Half Marathon today, and have a very brief report on the weekly race page (well I will soon). My training has been going well for the last 5 weeks, so I anticipated a good result.

The weather was far less than ideal. I mean, it's October 7 in New England, and it was 66 with 100% humidity at 6 a.m. when I woke up. I had sweat pouring out of me for the first 5 miles and then the wind changed and cool mist blew all over us. I helped me a lot heat-wise, but sure made me cold after I finished.

I hit mile 1 in 9:35 and did #2 in 8:45. Miles 3 to 8 were all within 5 seconds of 9 minutes, and I hit mile 8 in 72:10. I felt comfortable, but wondered how long I could carry it. The answer came in mile 9 when I realized I was pretty cooked. I hit mile 10 in 90:35, which is the fastest 10 I've run since picking up this running thing again 4 autumns ago. Unfortunately at mile 10 the wheels came off, and miles 11 and 12 were a struggle physically and mentally. They had fluid stops and I took advantage of them, getting a drink and walking for a good minute + to recover. Surprisingly or perhaps not, mile 13 was much easier, so I held it together and finished in 2:00:35. It is somewhat disappointing to have averaged 9:04 for the first 10, but 9:40 for the last 5K, causing me to miss sub-2.

Given I was looking to finish around 2:05 today I have to be pleased with the result, but come on. I couldn't find 36 seconds out there over 13 miles today? Luckily the answer to that question is no, I don't think I left anything out there on the course today. But if I only could have carried my pace and not had to take those short recovery breaks at the stations, I could have broken 2.

On the other hand, this is my fastest half marathon since returning to running in 2003, by a good 5 minutes, so I am pretty pleased. But still . . .

I tend to flame out between miles 8 and 11 in longer races, so I'm very pleased to be registered for the 8.1 mile TOT run in 20 days.

I'll see a lot of you there. Best luck with your training.

Craig

Colleen - It sounds like you are making a tough decision now that will probably give you more freedom in the future! Sorry about all of your knee problems!

Susie - I hope everything works out w/ your husband's job. I am still working at the bike shop. I am going to be off for 2 weeks as the boy out of school on break!

The century ride went well yesterday. It was quite hot for an october event, but it was fine. It was very windy, which I found unpleasant. Phil and I both have very sore throats. I think it was from wagging our tounges in the wind for several hours. Nice visual image, huh?

Reporting back in...

I finished my 5K today. Boy, can I tell I've been out of action! I did 3.1 miles in 41:52 for an average mpm of approx. 13:45.

I was okay with the time, but boy did I feel it afterward. I was really tired. My splits were:

mile 1: 13:11
mile 2: 13:09
Mile 3.1 15:32 (I walked a lot more during the last 1.1 mile)

But at least it felt good to be back DOING something again! Gonna try for 5 miles tomorrow.

This is kind of wierd but I am going to give you a spectator's view of a race. It was :cool1: AWESOME :cool1:

My DH and friend did great and the WISH er's were inspiring. I took a bunch of pictures and I really hope this is ok, if not I am in big trouble but I wanted to post them here (even though I don't know who some of them are :confused3 -- I'm sooo sorry)

But I wanted everyone to see just a tiny portion of the great representation we had of the WISH team. I know I missed a lot of people and I am VERY sorry!!

Also I figured out that I can not take pictures and cheer at the same time:
that is why there are no pictures of DH and my friend Jen finishing and why these WISHer's I got pictures of I could not scream for!!

GREAT JOB WISH TEAM

I know I probably should have posted this on weekend Race thread but I was just so DARN PROUD OF YOU GUYS!!

I had to post it over here.

By the way I wanted to tell you guys that my friend Jen had never even gone farther than 3.75 miles before today and not only did she finish but she did it in 1:21 and I have to brag on my husband because he stayed with her and pushed when she thought she could not do it!!! It was a really inspiring day!!

Did y'all hear that they had to shut down the Chicago Marathon today due to heat? Were any WISHers there this morning? They're reporting one death and something like 200+ people taken to the hospital!

Oh, no. One of my coworkers was there. I'm gonna check the results right now to see if he finished. (He was aiming for 3:50)

ETA: Just saw he finished in 4:23:17. Heat must have gotten to him.

I read on the website they were going to have sweepers at the half-way point. You had to make it there by noon. I would be interested to hear what else happened today.

For a reference point, I ran it last year and at the start the wind chill was 22F.

Hi Wishers!
Just wanted to post a quick update as I complete my first half-marathon yesterday. My goal really was just to finish but I had a secret goal to finish in 2:15 or less. Well, thanks to the typhoon going by we had ridiculous amounts of wind yet it was still around 85 degrees (the race didn't start till 8 am which didn't help with the heat). Anyway, despite all that I finished in 2:18:20. In a way it was such a great feeling to finish but I also asked myself many times, can I really handle twice this at the full? Hope you all are doing well with your training!

Hey--I just posted a link to the Chi-town Marathon article in a separate thread. Prayers going out to all the athletes and families affected today!

Angie--thanks for the pics and the race report!

Kristen--that's a great half time even w/o the typhoon!

Yes, it is all over the news. One runner, a 35 yr old male, died, there are reports of running out of water on the course, lots of people really struggling. What a shame! I did my LW today while watching the race on TV - both the men's and women's first place finishes were absolutely amazing. The heat combined with an 8AM start really hurt.

But still . . .

Craig

In running, 36 seconds is FOREVER! Be pround. Sounds like a great run in not so great conditions.:thumbsup2

Colleen - All I can say is sorry.:grouphug:

Kelley - Lots of :grouphug: :wizard: :grouphug: for you! Hope your ITB feels great on race day!

Melissa - :cool1: :yay:  for your century.

So sorry to hear about the Chicago Marathon. Hope any WISHer who ran it is OK.

I promise to pop in later and catch up with everyone, but I figured I better just hurry up and post my LR report before I chicken out. I have been feeling REALLY great lately about my runs, short and long, because they have really been effortless. Well.... that all ended this morning. First, my good night sleep was interrupted at 2am when DS6 woke up vomiting all over my bed. So the kids had to be cleaned, the sheets removed and thrown in the wash, etc... "O" the fun of being mom. Finally we all get back in bed, and I am up at 6:30 to go out for my run.

Today was supposed to be 16 miles. I was really doing fine, until about mile 5 or 6 when I started feeling this burn in the arch of my foot. It felt like something was rubbing. It didn't go away so at mile 7 I stopped and took my shoe off, but couldn't find anything wrong, so I got up and continued running. Now, mile 7-8 is a big bridge that goes over a river, so I had to go over it one way and then back over on the way back. On the way back my foot was really bothering me and so I stopped again after I got off the bridge. Now there was a big ole blister. I ran another mile then called it quits. Luckily, my Mom was out running on the same trail I was, and was closer to her car, so I called her and had her come pick me up. I ran my 10 miles in something like 1hr:33min, so around a 9:30 pace, but it just felt alot harder than that.

I am trying to figure out what I need to do as far as my training now. This week was supposed to be a 16LR, then next week a step back week, after that an 18LR, then TOT. I did get in 15 miles last week. Should I just continue with my schedule as planned and run my 18 in two weeks, or should I try to get in another LR this week too? If anyone has any advice, suggestions, or pick me ups, I could probably use them right now.

Sorry to come in here and whine. I just know that when I have a crappy run or a crappy day you guys are usually really good at helping me feel better. I promise to come back tomorrow with a much better attitude and catch up with everyone!!

Hi, everyone! I promise I'll come back soon to catch up, but wanted to say:

Congrats to all our teammates who did races this weekend! :woohoo: Howard decided Thursday to run a 15k today. I'm convinced he did this to truly earn membership in the YARC. I'll just point out that since the CDC on 8/12 the only steps he has put in were when Carrie was visiting in early September - 5.1 miles that day.

Speaking of YARC -- happy birthday, Dave! :cake:

The situation at Chicago today is so sad. Saying prayers for all those families.

Sending out huge hugs to Colleen and Lisa and everyone who is hurting. Dana, so sorry about your blister!

Oh, I know I've missed so many. I'm sorry! It's so good to see you here, Melissa! We've missed you! So glad also to hear that Bree is running. We'll see her in January, right? How is Luke?

My back is so much better. There was a big difference when I woke up yesterday and could get out of bed without moaning in pain, and could use my right arm for lifting more than a pound. The pain is definitely down to about a 2 from what was an 8 or 9 so I am so grateful for all the prayers and pixiedust! I have been so diligent about taking the anti-inflammatory and have not wogged or jogged at all. I did a lot of walkign at Howard's race today to see him 4 times and get to the finish, but it felt so good to be outside in the sunshine around all those athletes! :sunny:

Tonight I did 60 minutes on the recumbent bike -- 12.2 miles. Every little bit helps, right? :)

Have a great night, all! I have to get back to work!

Colleen - I'm hanging in there. I see the doctor again on Wednesday. Keeping my fingers crossed that he'll tell me everything's healed and I can start walking, at least. I'm so sorry you had to make such a tough decision about MCM. I've done the same with the City of Oaks here in Raleigh so that I'll be fully ready for Disney, but not a day goes by that I don't mourn just a little.

Kelley - pixiedust: that you'll be okay on Saturday. Just listen to your body!

Stephanie - I'm with you on the fall weather. DD had a soccer game today, and DH (her coach) said every single girl threatened to throw up at some point because of the heat!

Susie - :grouphug: and pixiedust: for your DH and family.

Renee - How was the soccer tournament?

Craig - Congrats on your half. Awesome time, even if you didn't find that 36 seconds!

Terri - Great job on the 5K - you've made a terrific recovery!

Angie - Thanks for the pix!

Kristin - Congrats on your half! :cheer2:

Dana - Sorry you had a stonker run. If it were me, I'd go ahead with the schedule and do the 18 in 2 weeks since you've already run 15.

Cam - Hooray that your back is improving! :yay:

Posted on Stephanie's other thread that my Galloway group leader and several of our members were running Chicago. I checked their times and none of them finished, so I'm assuming they're among the 10,000 who quit due to heat. Most of them have times thru 25K, then nothing after that. I can't wait till they get home and update us on how they are.

I must say that I really need much greater effort in my event commitment or I will not make that full January. I imagine it was the heat, but today's event had me totally walking/strolling those last 2+ miles. I was asking myself what it was I was thinking when I registered for the big event.

Cam, glad to hear that you are starting to feel better. Howard was out in this heat. I thought he went from a half to a 15k.

Dana, I do hope you have a better LR next one up. Sorry about that blister thing. Ow.

Kristin, congratulations on completing your first half! Way to go! It was as hot there as it is here. Brutal. I'm glad you made it.

Good morning WISH Team.

I have something interesting to pass along.

On Saturday I was feeling some soreness in my legs so decided to take a rest day. I went to the gym and soaked in the big hot tub. The tub had strong water jets and I used those to do a kind of deep tissue massage on my legs.

Sunday when I woke up my legs hurt, the ITbands really hurt. I had posted this on here and Lisa mentioned that after a deep tissue massage you need to drink lots of water to flush out the lactic acid you have released fom your muscles.

I got to thinking back and after I finished my soak I went home and just drank coffee with Erica, then took a nap with her and then off to work. I got a big (unsweetened) ice-tea to drink on that day at work. I only drank one bottle of water after returning home.

So taking Lisa's advice yesterday I drank water all day long and this morning I feel much better.

Thanks Lisa:hug: I feel much better after all the water.

Erica and I are off on our LSD for the week.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Race Report - Long Beach Island Commemorative 18-Mile Run

I am writing this race report a day late because I was too exhausted to thinking about posting last night. This race was, by far, the most mentally and physically grueling activity I have ever done in my life. First of all, this was my longest run to date. I ran 15 miles in late-August in the summer heat but have only run 13 miles since.

I completed the race in 2:46:33 at an average pace of 9:15. I came in 177 place out of 677 runners (380 males). My pace throughout the race is below and it gives good picture of what the day was like. First of all, the race did not start until 10:30AM and the temperature at race time was around 80 degrees. It quickly climbed to a record breaking 87 degrees by the end. I did not anticipate the heat.

The course is a straight/flat 18 miles that runs the entire length of the island down the main boulevard. I would say that 95% of the course was run in direct sunlight. Crowds?? A few people cheering during the first 6 miles but after that the most I saw was a few families sitting in front of their homes that appeared to be in shock that any nut would run 18 miles in 85 degree heat! Most people on the island were heading to the beach to enjoy the indian summer day.

MILE PACE
Lap 1 8:35/mi
Lap 2 8:36/mi
Lap 3/4 8:38/mi
Lap 5 8:37/mi
Lap 6 8:42/mi
Lap 7/8 8:52/mi
Lap 9 9:00/mi
Lap 10 9:12/mi
Lap 11 9:10/mi
Lap 12 9:25/mi
Lap 13 9:39/mi
Lap 14 9:45/mi
Lap 15 10:02/mi
Lap 16 10:06/mi
Lap 17/18 9:55/mi

Besides the heat I dealt with pain in my feet that started around mile 6 and got worse every mile. I need to figure out some way to deal with this. I bought inserts this week and they helped on my weekly runs but were not too effective yesterday.

All I kept thinking as I approached the finish was..."if this were a marathon I would have 8 more miles to go". I was picturing the Disney course map in my head and saying..."this is only Animal Kingdom".

The bottom line...I was happy I finished the race but realized that as good as I thought I was doing, I still have a lot more work to do. I need to get working on how I will deal with those last 8 miles.

Oh yeah, the Phillies lost and are out of the playoffs. They went out without much of a whimper. We're used to this in Philadelphia. LET'S GO FLYERS!

"The bottom line...I was happy I finished the race but realized that as good as I thought I was doing, I still have a lot more work to do. I need to get working on how I will deal with those last 8 miles."

OMG, you have soooo much to be proud of. Your mpm time is great no matter what. :cheer2:

Sometimes, when I go a long distance like that, I try to visualize where I would be during an upcoming race and see the people ahead of me. When I get closer to the end, I concentrate on 1 person ahead of me and try to see if I can haul it up enough to pass that 1 person. If I think too much about my pace, I tend to fall off pace. :confused3 Guess, that sounds funny, but it's true!

Vic--thanks for the week reminder! That means I'm supposed to do 12 this weekend--not gonna happen--we'll see what the ole legs are up to this week.

Heading to the gym this morning during DD's dance class. Gonna try out the FIRST plan and see how it goes. Only done 1.5 miles since the marathon, so we'll see what I feel like today. HOpe everyone has a great start to the week--looks like some cooler weather coming in mid-week!

Have we already discussed John Bingham's awesome article in this month's Runners' World? I was so impressed that he faced that philosophy head on.

BTW, I started re-reading "Courage to Start" this weekend. Getting myself geared up for the full marathon is taking a lot more mental something than I seem to have in me right now. I vacillate between pessimism and enthusiasm/optimism. Based on my experience last year, I think I can only do better and without the "unforseen complication" of this year's experience, I should be fine, but just getting past the mental hurdle of "why in the world am I doing this?" will require some effort.

Reading "First Marathons" is really helping a LOT, even though each of those contributors ran, or at least set out to run, their marathons. I cried during some part of each of those accounts. At whatever level we do this -- those who are running 8 minute or 9 minute or 10 minute miles or those of us working and hoping to meet the minimum 16 minute walking pace -- the fact that we share this bond of driving ourselves and improving ourselves and being out there with other like-minded individuals - THAT is what this is all about. I would note, however, that many of those runners whose accoun ts appear in "First Marathons" didn't run their first marathons until they were my age or even older. So, maybe someday I'll run more than I'll walk. But whatever I do for the full this year -- I am determined to do this one strong. Maybe then I'll be able to feel like it is an accomplishment that I can check off my list. Running the half will be my goal for 2009.

Just thought I'd put those two books out there as suggested reading for anyone who needs a refresher or some inspiration. I think most of us need it at one time or another. :grouphug:

First, I want to say thank you to those of you concerned about my blister. I felt like a real whinercomplaining about the blister, and I think that made me realize it wasn't my blister as much as it was just a stonker of a run. From the very beginning I wanted to quit. For some reason my heart just wasn't in the running, even though my head told me to get out there and get it done. I went and bought new socks last night, hopefully these won't rub. My old ones had gotten little balls on them (kind of like the ones on an old sweater) and I think that is what was rubbing on that spot. I have worn this same brand of socks in all my training last year too. So hopefully the new ones will be better. I have decided that I am gonna swap last week for this week. I am gonna use last week as my step back week, and redo this week again. I'll get in my 16 this week, 18 next, and then TOT the week after that. I feel that in comparison to what some of you have going on with injuries that I really shouldn't be complaining at all. So thank you for listening to me whine. I hope that everyone who is feeling bad starts to feel better soon.

Cam - I am glad to hear that your back is feeling better. Keep up with the meds and get this thing taken care of right so you can be back out there with us in January!!

Thanks, Cam, for the book suggestions. I read JB's book, Marathoning for Mortals, and I got all pumped up to do the half this past January. I have not read Courage to Start or the First Marathons book but it sounds like I need to.

Right now, I'm kind of in a slump. I'm getting the steps in but I have been questioning my reasoning for training for this marathon. It seems like this training has consumed every fiber in my body. I have my highs, I have my lows. Sometimes I feel like I can conquer the world; other times, I wonder why I'm putting my body through all this pain.

I like what you said about the speed. My goal is to finish within the required time. And, in light of the Chicago Marathon yesterday, I started having my doubts - especially if Disney has this kind of heat in January. Of course, I've got to get those thoughts out of my head!!! I just need to concentrate on getting my 10 miles in this Saturday and not worry about what's going to happen in January. First things, first!

Hi WISHers!

I learned a lesson this morning -- trying to run after a weekend away where all you eat is junk food is not the best idea. My systems were all off and instead of doing my 50 minute run it morphed into a 50 minute run/walk and then ended up being a 40 minute walk/run. STONKER!!! Glad I had that great 14 miler on Friday so I'm not freaking out too much. I sure am eager for some cooler weather, though!

Mel - The humidity is killing me. Hate it!

tiberius - WTG getting your 6.5 in!

Kim - Happy belated Thanksgiving!

WWDave - Happy belated birthday!

Kelley - PD for your knee in the marathon on Saturday!

Stephanie - I think this year we're re-defining "fall" weather. Hot and humid.

Nancy - WTG on the 8 mile walk!

Terri - Good job getting the 5K done - did you get your 5 miles in today?

Laurie - Great pacing on your long run!

Susie - PD for DH's job situation - my DH is in the same boat!

Lisa - Congrats on becoming a walking walker, not a walking runner! Hope it helps with the rehab.

Colleen - Hope the 3rd opinion gives you peace of mind with your diagnosis

Jen - 108 laps!?! I'd be dizzy!

Martha - WTG with the 13 miler!

Craig - Congrats on your half - great time!!!

Melissa - WTG on the century ride!!

Angie - Thanks for sharing the RFTT pics - can't wait to get some id on those WISHers!

Kristin - Congrats on your first half! Great time - and a pr, of course!!

Vic - Way to git r done with the 9 miler!

Dana - I would just keep moving with your plan and forget about the 16 miler turning into 10. That's what I've done.

Cam - Glad the back is healing. I read the Bingham article and really liked it, too!

Jackie - PD for your doctor visit on Wednesday - hope it's good news! Soccer went really well this weekend; DS won all games and so took home the medal. In fact, their cumulative score for all 4 games was 21-4. VA Beach had GREAT fields!!

Lily - My run this morning pretty much turned into a stroll. Sigh. Happens to all of us!

Lou - Congrats on the 18 mile race! Great pace! I thought 10:30 was awfully late to start that long of a race.

Sorry to any I missed.

Happy training, all!

Greetings Racing Team -

Total WTO this morning. What's up with that?? :headache: What do these people WANT from me?!?!?!

Six miles on Saturday. I can tell I've been 1) slacking off my training and 2) spending way too much time on the track. A hill at mile 4 just about wiped me out. It was one of those "WHY do I go THIS WAY???" hills that goes on for-eva!

6.0 miles

2) 13:22
3) 11:28
4) 14:07
5) 13:36
6) 11:59

Hummmm, Judy hasn't showed up yet this weekend? Well I guess she figured we would just try to talk her out of it any way. I know it's a night race and all but a walking ala natural is pushing the envelope a bit to far. We really need to talk her out of this.

Dave - I'm here. They just expected me to actually DO something when I showed up for work this morning. Well, we'll just see about that, won't we! :snooty:

Cam - I started reading MFM again last night too! I way miscalculated and today was actually the first day of my MFM Walk the Half training. Which is fine. So I'm two weeks ahead of schedule. Anyway, I was making a copy of the schedule and the book opened to a page I had highlighted the first time I read it. It's where he says to treat L/R's like a car wreck. That your body has to take some time to recover from the damage. Guess I should copy that page and hang it on the wall where I'll see it every single day.

I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to everyone, as I see we have some major things going on here. and :wizard: to everyone who could use 'em. I have to pretend like I'm working now.

Lou - Congrats on the 18 mile race! Great pace! I thought 10:30 was awfully late to start that long of a race.

Thanks!

I agree with the late race time. I never run between 10AM-2PM to avoid the heat so I was totally unprepared for the weather on Sunday.

This race is organized by a local Catholic church, not a big company, and people are allowed to register as late as 9:30AM on race day. Also, most people, like me, picked up their race package on the day of the race because LBI is really out of the way. I think they needed to morning hours to get ready. Plus they bus people from the church to the start (7 miles away).

It was just real tough to run during the peak sunlight hours on a day that went up to 89 degrees.

I have some questions, hope someone here can help!

I am up to 8 miles, but not quite on pace, do you think I will be ready for the Half in January, or am I kidding myself that I can do it?

I am still getting terrible headaches after doing anything over 4 miles, I've increased my water intake, and have been eating more before I head out, but still get them about 2 hours after I finish. Any input on how to prevent this?

And, my last question for now, is there anything I can do for chaffing, other than lubricants? My sports bra is already very snug, I think if I went any tighter, I would not be able to breath, but the more running I do, the more painful it's getting.

TIA!

Dana

I always wear 2 pair of socks, which are actually 3 when I train.

Closest to the skin I wear a super thin and light sock. I've had good luck with both running socks and bike socks from companies like DeFeet and Save our Soles. They are thin, slip, and wick moisture.

Over this layer I wear Double Layer socks. I'm not sure who makes them, but you can find them at running stores. They literally are 2 super thin layers in a single sock, also very light.

This way I have, in theory, a layer on the skin, a layer on the shoe, and lots of slipping in between, but no slipping on my feet. It works wonderfully (expect for my darn heel spurs, which require gobs of vaseline on the hot spot in the shoe and on the sock to keep my heels from blistering). If I'm going really long I also put goop all around my toes to protect them.

Ciao

:grouphug:

Cam - Thanks for the tips on the books. I am going to have to check them out.

I'm with you on the mental toughness part of this whole marathon training. I was doing great until this weekend when I ran this 18-mile run. This was the first time I felt the "why am I doing this to myself" thing you describe. Between the extreme pain in my feet and the heat I was beginning to doubt why I am doing this.

However, 24 hours after the race I have forgotten about the pain (minus the slight soreness I feel right now) and am back to being determined to run a marathon. I figured reading a few books may help me to mentally prepare. On the physical side, I realized I have more to do and probably need to get more serious (i.e. more cross training and weights and better diet).

Lou, I think you have to give yourself a tremendous amount of credit for doing so well in a race of that length which was so much longer than you'd done before, in the blistering heat. BTW, my dear friend (and partner) was at the race and finished right behind you. She asked me if I knew what you look like since she thinks she was right behind you almost the whole time. Small world, huh?

TIA!

I can answer the question about the pace. I started training for the 2007 WDW half last October 2 using John Bingham's Marathoning for Mortals walk/run plan. It took me about a month of training to get within the required pace and that was just barely within the time limit. So yes, this is very doable for you.

Just curious - Are you preparing for another race between now and January? I didn't even get to the 8 mile LRs until mid to late November so you are way ahead of where I was this time last year. Of course, I'm sure you are following a different plan. I had to build up to that mileage and as I was building up, I tried to increase my speed as well. By the time I got to the 8-miler, I was within the required time. Again, that was in mid to late November of last year so you still have time to get a little faster.

As for the chafing, I use Body Glide and that seems to work for me. Other than the lubricants, I'm not sure what to tell you.

For you headaches, I don't know. Now, I will say that I do get headaches training in the heat. Maybe that has something to do with it? On hot days, I train inside. I'm a wimp. ;)

Good luck with your training. You can do it! :cheer2:

I I am trying to figure out what I need to do as far as my training now.
Dana

Dana I am sorry you had a hard LR! I totally understand....Can I ask a question? Why are you so high on LR mileage already. Are you doing a marathon b/4 WDW? I may have missed this.
Also What does your plan look like? I see that you are doing:
15 (last week)
16 (this week)
step back...what is the miles for that?
18 in 2 weeks
TOT
Then what...
I ask b/c I normally in my training do 14, 12, 16, 12, 18, 12, 20, 12 and so on. But I don't know what plan you use. Just make sure you are not over training. You body needs to rest so it was probably good that you did 10 this week. I don't want you to think that I think I know everything about running....cause I don't. I just don't want you to get hurt b/c of too much miles or something.
With all that said If you are still going to do your 18 as planned (in 2 weeks, do not try 16...do 12. If you are redoing your schedule, and this training is for WDW then I would do:
16 this week
12 - 10/20
TOT - 10/27...or that weekend...not sure of the date.
16 again - 11/03
12 - 11/10.........on tricharlotte (the plan goes to 24 miles) this is the 18 mile run...but I bet you are not planning on going that far up in miles.
18 - 11/17
12 - 11/24
20 - 12/1
12 - 12/8
22 - 12/15
12-15 - 12/22
8-10 - 12/29
5 - 1/5
Marathon the next week
THat gives you some play room too with miles.

My run today:
Kept it on 7 until mile 5.5 then upped it to 7.5. At 6 miles I upped it to 8 and ran the last mile at an 8. I hit the emergancy STOP button 2ce and could not get the treadmill to restart, but this is add into the time.
7 miles in 59.22 8.26 pace

Erica and I went for a 12 miler today. We had planned to do 14 but it was 90degrees by the time we called it a day. I thought this was fall!

Erica bought some new Ecco Yucatan sandals in one size larger so today was a check out for them. She has decided to try the Ecco running shoe for a winter shoe. She has done all her summer and fall training in the sandals.

I have yet to pack properly for Disney, there is just so much you can pack.

That is interesting...very small world. Since this was a relatively small race (680 racers) I ended up only seeing a few people after mile 6 because the runners were pretty spread out for most of the race. I remember a number of people who were around me because I saw the same people for miles and miles. Here's what I look like running http://www.athlinks.com/racer/21653425/Louis-Rodriguez.aspx. Hey all! Well, my first Disney marathon training run went well today. I altered the plan a little since I haven't had much distance in the past week and half. I am using the FIRST program, so I did 4X800s (instead of 6) at 7:48 and a 10 minute warm-up/cool down. Still feeling good. Now I've got to head to the gym--they called me into work, needing some extra help today. Good thing I can schlep the kids with me!

Christa - Here's what I am doing as far as my training. I have been following a Galloway/Higdon plan. I've been using the miles from Higdon with a 1min walk every 2 miles. Here are what my LR's look like from here on out if I don't change my schedule.

Jan 13 - WDW

I noticed that while writing this down that I have a 3 week taper. I don't know if I should taper 3 weeks or 2. I know last year I went into the race feeling like I hadn't done enough running in the weeks leading up to the race, then again, I really didn't do enough running in the weeks leading up to the race. I think I slacked off even more than the taper actually called for. I am going to do some looking around at tricharlotte and elsewhere and see what the usual taper is. I like the tricharlotte plan that calls for a 24 miler. I like running the farther distance in training.

I don’t think that I saw him (if I would have seen a picture of his back, it might have been more telling). G'day WISH teammates! :surfweb:

Today is a holiday AND a rest day for me. So I thought I'd catch up with everyone.

My heart goes out to everyone who trained so hard for the Chicago marathon and had weather like that! It is so disheartening to have that happen. My thoughts are also with the family members of the man who died.

Christa: I kept telling him that...

Dana: so sorry about your blister! I, too, wear double-layered socks but still have problems with blisters on the bottom of my toes. I tape them but sometimes that doesn't help. My sports podiatrist suggested spraying them with antiperspirant which does seem to do some good. I don't need quite so much tape any more.

Cam: happy to hear your back is better! Take care of yourself!!

WWDave: are you sure your "soreness" isn't due to too much birthday party celebration? Hmmm?

lourodrigis: congrats on your 18 mile race! It doesn't sound like the most ideal conditions but you should congratulate yourself on AWESOME times! :thumbsup2

Stephanie: kudos to getting back in the saddle on training!!

Susie: I am so sorry you are having your doubts! It is one of the loneliest things I've ever done, training for a marathon. I understand entirely how you feel as this is my first marathon. I often question my sanity. We are here for you when you need us to buck you up. Think how wonderful it will be to have it behind you!

Renee: so sorry to hear about your stonker! You'll do much better next time!

Judy: your screensaver is great! May I use it?

To those sick and in pain: :wizard: I'm sure I've missed a number of people and I hope everyone gets better really soon!

I've got a lot going on between now and ToT and I shall welcome the break with open arms. I am excited about seeing so many WISHers and meeting those I've never met before. It will be a total blast!

Have a lovely rest of the day everyone!

My pace dropped from 8:36 to about 10:00 consistently throughout the race so I was slowing down the whole race. If the race went on for another mile your friend would have probably blown right by me. I don't remember anyone with a pink tank drop singing off key but I was pretty incoherent the last 6 miles. I was seeing more pink elephants than ladies in tank tops.

Yeah you have scheduled 3. Look at tricharlotte. These plans really work for me...NOW, if you just lived in Charlotte...you could use the routes on tricharlotte too....and we could run the LRs together.;)
I am SO TIRED of running LONG by myself.
PS...I only went to 18 for my trail run last year and went to 20 miles last year for WDW and had a 4 week taper due to knee pain...and that worked out well. BUt I prob won't taper that long again unless I have too.

4 miles on the TM tonight. Tried to run a bit but quickly realized it may be a bit soon for that. 57:45. Really, really had to push to do that. Learned you can lose a lot in 9 days of not training. And I learned that you can feel better and then end up beating up your body again, so I'll take it easy for a few days. Swinging my right arm definitely aggravated something.

Sorry I didn't see you Angie but I was just concentrating on the finish at this time.

Cam - isn't it amazing how it can months to build up the endurance and then a week or two of not training can cause it all to fall apart. I did 3.1 yesterday and 5 today and it was tough. I felt so out of condition, but I got it done! :) Thanks for the book recommendations, too. I have thought about getting the 1st Marathons book, but never did. Maybe I'll give it a try.

Susie - Hang in there. We all have those moments where we question our sanity in training for these races (like every time I start:rolleyes: ). But the feeling of accomplishment feels so good, when the workout/race is over.
You can do it. We're all here to support each other. Think how nice it'll be sporting that Tiffany necklace after the Nike race:goodvibes

Renee- Yep. I got the 5 miler in today. Felt a little better today than after yesterday's run (just a little). XT tomorrow.

Craig - I went with 2 pairs of socks for the 07 Goofy. Wore a thin layer first and then the "supposedly" blister free socks. Ended up with 5 blisters on my feet  I used your advice of the vaseline for the spot where I got a wicked blister during the 06 Goofy. Worked like a charm :) Not even a hint of a blister on that part of my foot. This year I may vaseline my whole foot!

Lou - congrats on the 18 miles!:cool1: Maybe next year for our Phillies!

Talking about mental toughness - what do you guys do to get you through the long runs/races? Do you think about anything in particular? Listen to music, etc.?

I find that when I'm doing my training, if I tend to check the Garmin frequently, then I get kinda stressed and worry if my pace is to fast, slow or just notice how much farther I have to go. It seems to make me more tired. So, to avoid that I try to focus on something to keep me from looking at the Garmin.

On today's 5 miler, I had my iPod on. Now from past experiences I know it takes approximately 4 songs to play to complete a mile. So I made up my mind not look at the Garmin until after the 15th song played (which would put me close to the 4 mile mark) I could try to pick up the pace for the last mile if I was too slow.

On other occasions, I'll count my steps. I may decide to go 2000-3000 steps before I look at the Garmin. It's a lot of counting, but it keeps my mind off the distance, the time and any pain or discomfort I may feel. (With all that counting, there must be some OCD in me somewhere! :rolleyes1 )

My 5 mile time today was 1:07:37, which comes out to approx. 13:32 mpm pace. :goodvibes

Well, I think I'm finally about to kick this virus. I had a fever and sore throat for almost a week. So tedious!

I'm going to attempt to run tomorrow on the TM. I made an executive decision and marked my calendar in big GREEN letters "SICK" for my lost workouts. I decided I shouldn't break out the red pen. It's my stupid calendar- why was I going to punish myself!? :rotfl:

I also bought a new running stroller. We have an old one I keep at my mom's house 60 miles away, but it's really awkward to drag it back and forth. I was panicking about when we were going back and how I was going to get DH to babysit during my next LR if I didn't have it, and then I thought "got another 13 weeks of this, moron-- Stop being cheap!" :rolleyes1 Coach Harry should be pleased to have another vehicle so we can cruise the streets looking for parks and puppies...

Terri - It's always next year for us. At least we get to watch a few of our ex-players, Curt Schilling and Paul Byrd, have success in the playoffs. I'm kidding of course.

The iPod is what gets me through LRs and races. I used to just hit shuffle but now I am finding that I need to get the "right" songs for those LRs/races. I generally try to pack it with songs that will get me fired up. It's funny how a song can increase your pace when you need a boost.

Prior to this weekends race I didn't know this thread existed...but I like it! If you don't mind me asking, how much do all of you run on a daily basis?? I read a post (Dave I think) that said 12 miles, 18 (Lou), and a couple of 5's. The fives are more down my ally since I'm just starting out. I was a pretty heavy smoker for 15 years and just quit smoking and started running a year ago. I'm working up on my endurance slowly but surely. Two years ago I couldn't run the length of a city block, let alone a 10K in FL humidity! Anyhow...nice to meet all of you!

I'm just a walker dear so 12 miles for me is different than for a runner. I do about 30 to 40 miles a week while training for the marathon and Goofy challange but average 20 to 25 miles a week when I'm not training for anything.

I was a smoker also, as was my lady Erica. I smoked for 34 years and quit when I turned 50, 6 years ago, Erica quit about 6 mo later. I've been smoke free for 6 years and lost even that occassional desire for one that lingers on.

Good luck with your training and hope to meet you someday. I'm shy also.

But, I was sore in places I had never been sore from running. So lots of :cool1:  :cool1: for you guys and gals out there who walk long!
I couldn't do it!:woohoo:
And Dave, thanks for keeping this site so full of fun!:yay:

Villains Rock -- :welcome: to the weekly thread. You smoked for 15 years? Did you start when you were 4? I've seen your picture -- you barely look 15! ;) Congrats on kicking the habit!!! :woohoo:

Terri -- I am so glad you are able to get the miles in. I play all sorts of head games to get through the miles. If I am on the TM for a really, really long time, I'll watch a movie on my ipod video. I try to pick something with great dance scenes, like Step it Up or Coyote Ugly and I jog each time there is a good dance scene or good background music. It helps to cover the miles. On shorter runs outside or like the 4 last night, I'll listen to a run mix I put together. Sometimes I have to listen to the same song 3 or 4 times back to back to keep myself motivated and on a good pace. "Can't Stop the Beat" from Hairspray is my current great pace song.

Christa -- You continue to amaze me!

Dave -- We'll miss you today! Don't work too hard!

Morning everyone. Did 4 miles last night. It was still very hot and humid at 6pm when I started.

Susie--- I know exactly how you are feeling as I felt that way several weeks ago, I took off 4 days and went away for a long weekend. I felt much better mentally after that.

Cam--- Glad your back is feeling better.

Welcome Villians Rock :welcome:

I finally bought an MP3 player to use for my outside walks. Buy.com had rebuilt ones for $15 plus has an FM radio. My son showed me how to download CD's onto it and I was able to do that. When at the gym will continue to read my books. Anything to help with the boredom.

Have a great day everyone.

Morning teammates! Going to get some xt in once I drop DD off at school. And then it's the grocery store--my life is SO glamourous!;)

Terri--Those last few miles of a LR or a race are the most torturous for me. I try to break them up into smaller chunks--only a 10K left, only a 5 K left, 2 miles left, etc--thinking that on any other day a 10K would be a cake walk. I remember at the end of the Akron Marathon a couple weeks ago, we were at the 22 mile mark, and some guy was yelling "Only 4 miles left, you guys do 4 miles on your off days!" I laughed, b/c he's right. During a training run, I do use my iPod to get me through the rough patches, but during a race I don't use it. Also, toward the end, I use the crowd support to get me through--also saying thank you to all the volunteers/police made me not think about running for a moment. The other thing that runs through my mind when I don't think I can go any further is "relentless forward motion" no matter how fast or slow, I need to keep moving forward--eventually it will be over!

Dave--Don't be modest! I agree with Christa--walking is WAY harder for me than running. And you are super speedy walking! Have fun at work today!

Christa--and yep, I do think you are our speediest female round these parts--too bad you won't be at Disney, hoping I could draft off of you--or at least try to keep up, kinda like I did with Angie at the Minnie. Guess I'll be chasing after Dana instead!

VilliansRock--Welcome! Glad you found us!

Okay, better get off here and get ready to leave the house. Have a great Tuesday all!

Hey Team... Last night was just over 3 miles on the TM... and it was good (for a TM run). I just kept saying to myself, don't wimp out and that helped me finished without complaining. We have had some weird weather here. Yesterday it was 80's and HOT, today it is high of 50's. I just know I am going to get sick, plus the fact that my girls are picking up the ickies at school!!!

Cam - Way to get back at it!!

Villians Rock... WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Terri - Blisters are my fear for the Full!!! I need to gather all this info being posted so I can take a defense!!!

Angie - Thanks for the pics!!

OK, I have to go... work is calling my name, tho I may hide for a bit!

Hi, everyone!! Remember me? Maybe I should introduce myself, my name is Krista and I've been running 2.5 years and I used to be a member of this wonderful Wish team, until I fell off the face of the planet! :) Oh, and the most important thing you need to know about me: I bleed Black and Gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Anyway, I do have some training to report, I got in 10 miles this past week and 5 last night. I have not ran over 5 miles in about a month, so my legs were a little achy last night! They feel great today though and I realized last night how much I miss running long distances and strangely enough, how much I miss training for a marathon. I have 3 events on the running schedule (the ToT 13K, Mason Mini Marathon on 11/3, and Thanksgiving Day 10K on 11/22) so that will keep me busy for the next month! I am kind of wishing that I went ahead and signed up for the WDW marathon, but oh well, right?

Colleen-- I am so sorry that you had to pull out of MCM. I know your pain, I really do, but I think you are making the right decision! :wizard: for your surgery!

Dana--You are covering a lot of mileage! Wow!! You are going to be incredibly trained!

Villains Rock--Welcome!!!!!!!!!

WW Dave--We are enjoying the cooler weather in Cincinnati too! I'm so mad about the 90 degree weather, all this heat is ruining my favorite time of the year!!

SW Dave-- I hope you are hanging in there!

Cam--Be careful, girl!! Don't push yourself too hard!

Stephanie--This is really belated, but congrats on the Akron marathon!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Kelley--:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your foot!!! Good luck on your marathon this weekend!!!!

Susie--:wizard: :wizard: for Steve's job!!

Jen--Let me see if I have this correct, you ran 108 laps on an indoor track WITHOUT an iPod? You are the woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way, I was rooting HARD for the Pack on Sunday.

Craig--Congrats on the half marathon!

Congrats to all the Race for the Taste finishers!!!! :woohoo:

Melissa--HI!!!!!!!!!! Stephen and I were just talking about you over the weekend, wondering how you were doing? How is Phil? And the boy? And the dog? And the new job?? Congrats on the Century ride!!

Angie--Jeez, can you be any cuter???? princess: How was Bobby's back in the 10K?

Kristin--Congrats on your half!! Awesome time!

Okay, I know I missed a ton of people, but I am so far behind on the thread, I knew it was bound to happen. I promise I'll be around more often and I'll see many of you in 18 days!!!!!!!!! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Krista - I was wondering about you!!! :goodvibes

Ok, I just caught up with everyone, but don't have the energy to respond. Please forgive me! I have this awful cough, sore throat, bronchitis-y thing that is going around. I had to suck on cough drops through the wedding Sunday so as not to hack up my lung during the ceremony!

I am so torn. I want to train today since ToT is quickly apporaching. But with my asthma, any cold makes breathing under normal circumstances more difficult. So, I think I am leaning towards sleeping all afternoon while Zack is at school and calling it a day. I know I can finish ToT. I just think I am going to be really disappointed in my time. :sad2:

Funny story from Kristi & Rob's wedding (the other Kristi, not me):
"We are gathered here today to join Christopher & Rob...." :lmao:

And open bars make one forget all about how sick they feel! :lmao:

It's nice of you, someone from Cincinnati, to bleed for the alma mater, the University of Colorado Buffs. I proudly wore the black and gold for 4 years on the soccer pitch.

Greetings Racing Team -

My first official day of XT as I train for the Half. I did a quick (:lmao: ) mile on the TM then took the stationary bike for a spin. I'm working on putting together a little repertoire of stretching and core exercises for my XT days.

I don't know if this is a good thing or not. Sometimes I get SUCH pain in my left ankle. The podiatrist says its Sinus Tarsi and he gave me a Cortisone Cocktail right before the Minnie but I ran with it wrapped up anyway. Last night I was working out in the barn and I turned and my ankle SNAPPED SO LOUD and HOLY COW did it hurt! I honestly thought, even though I had on hiking boots, that I broke something. OMG it hurt so much! However, today it is just a little sore, but sore in a way like if you really really needed a chiropractic adjustment and you got one an you were sore afterwards way. Anyway, I kinda hope that "fixed" whatever was wrong. Wouldn't that be nice! :goodvibes

Bill - Hey look at that picture of you. You WERE still asleep!

Eva - I don't know if I ever said :welcome: but, well, there it is. Congratulations on your first WDW race! Whenever it is that you come to race at WDW again, don't you dare be shy. You're a fabulous addition to our team! :woohoo: Don't worry about what everyone else is doing. We are all at different levels, which is part of the beauty of this crazy team. I only do 3 miles 3X week then a L/R on Saturdays. Certainly don't look at Christa! That woman is a athletic MACHINE!!! :thumbsup2

Cam - Oh Cam.... How are you feeling this morning? Oh no. Easy up, will ya? You're ready for ToT.

Terri - RW just had an article about what kind of runner are you (mentally)? I'm definitely an introvert. I need to focus and coach myself. Charlie totally tunes out, listening to his Ipod. I just can't listen to music. I need to check myself, my pace, watch where I'm going. I need to pay attention to what I am doing. but I really think there is no right way or wrong way to be when you run. Hey, whatever gets you thru the miles! :thumbsup2 Oh and on the TM I watch a movie too. We have a TV and DVD player right in front of it. I find movies with studmuffins like Mr Cary Grant or Mr George Clooney keep me mesmerized and I don't even notice when I've been on the TM for a long long time.

Jen - You're so funny! :lmao: I hope you feel better today. And BTW, you ARE allowed sick days you know.

Ohhh, Dave's working a 12 hours shift. It's going to be awfully quiet around here today. popcorn::

Stephanie - I too chant "relentless forward motion". I figure as long as I keep it moving, I'm making progress! :thumbsup2

Krista - Oh stop it now! You are ALWAYS a member of our Team, no matter if you post or not! :yay: Come on now! We are quite fond of you here! No matter what color you bleed! ;)

Krista - Oh no! You can't be sick now! Well, I guess get it over with, right? "Christopher & Rob" :lmao: I'm sorry I didn't get back to you about the spectator thing. I think since I don't know what I'm doing, I should just leave all my options open, as they say around here. GAG! Anyway, I'll be chasing Charlie and also might be helping Jenn with Heather's daughters. I should stay available in case any of those guys need me.

Speaking of Daves.... It must have been something I said to scare off MSDave. :sad1:

Christa - I know what you mean about doing these LR's alone. Last year I was at least training for Disney with a few other people who are regulars on my trail, but this year everyone is training for the 26.2 with Donna Breast Cancer marathon here in Jacksonville, so NO ONE is running the same as me right now. I think that was part of my problem on Sunday. That and my run was on a different trail where there is civilization. It was WAY too easy for me to have someone come get me. That thought wouldn't have crossed my mind out at the rail trail I usually run at, because to be honest I have no idea where I am at, I know where the trail starts and that's about it!! I was looking at the plan on tricharlotte and really like it, but what do you do in the middle of the week, it only shows long runs!!

Cam - be careful not to reaggravate that back!! We want you healthy at TOT!!

Jen in GA - This cold that's been going around is horrible. The sore throat is the worst. I hope you start feeling better soon!!

Terri - I have always used my MP3 player (I'm not cool enough for an IPOD!!) towards the end of my LR's. Helps keep my mind off of how much longer I have to go. Unfortunatley, I just lost mine here recently and I am realizing just how much I need it back!!

Villains Rock - Welcome to our group!! Congratulations on quitting smoking!! I did the same thing right before I came on here and joined this group!! I quit April of 06, and haven't gone back since. Unless you count the nights out drinking with friends, and then I have a couple, but don't ever touch them the next day!! Now if I could just get over the smoking while drinking habit I'd be straight!! This group is awesome!!

Krista - If it makes you feel any better, we are kinda wishing that you had signed up for disney too. We're gonna miss you!!

Kristi - That cold is a witch. I'm serious. Two weeks later and I am still trying to kick it completely. If it's similar to what I have had it's the sore throat, cough, but the cough never really gets in your chest just kinda in your throat. Everything is better now but the sore throat, I have been living on Cloraseptic drops and Ibuprofin for the pain. Take it easy and rest, the running isn't gonna help you any, and you have to get better before you go to TOT 1) because you have to feel better and 2) because if you give me this cold back again I am gonna be really upset!! j/k

Well, this morning I got my oldest to school, I have done 2 loads of laundry :laundy: , mowed the yard, put out my Halloween decorations, and caught up on this thread!! I am getting ready to change clothes, run 4 miles, do some Yoga (I am trying to keep this hip stretched out), and then I have to go get DS from school!! Then come football practice, dinner, and thankfully bed!! Looks like I live the same kind of glamorous life as Christa!! "O" and I still have to get the photo contest posted for this week, the folks on the photography board are going to riot soon if I don't!! I'll check back in later!!

Hi Everyone-

Whoa! You guys are putting in some major miles! I feel left behind!

I am building up to my long training runs much slower this year. Instead of building up one long run each week, I built the mileage up on every run. So I am just now starting to add to my long runs. Its not nearly as exciting as last year but I am SO much stronger at the end of every run that it must be working. Perhaps it is just a full year of consistant training. Whatever it is, I am not complaining!

Tomorrow I am going to try something new: Splitting my midweek run into two workouts. Its the only way to get the miles in. I am running 8 miles in the morning and 4-6 more in the evening. Has anyone done this and do you have any advice?

Angie - Do you eat right after a run? You might try that to see if it helps with the headaches. It doesn't have to be a whole lot. I know it makes a huge difference to me.

Remind me to thank my husband who refused to let me run Chicago.....

Dana- You know, if you weren't so ridiculously speedy, I'd join you in a couple of LRs since I'm only 60 miles from Jax! My mom has volunteered to ride her bike with me on my LRs only to back out the morning of... twice. It's a little lonely on the roads, isn't it?! I think I just like pushing Harry for the company...

Anyone seen the Christmas displays in stores now?! Lowes has all the trees, lights, blow up things, etc. I just wanted a paint sample, and I found myself in the middle of Christmas! So my first thought is "hello, I really can just skip putting out a pumpkin and a mum or two and move on to lights?" Then I realized that the marathon is right after Christmas and I became very, very frightened... (oh, and I wanted to go put some Christmas music on my iPod because I am extremely impressionable. :rotfl: )

Oh, and I got two new running books today, which is very appropriate since I still haven't run since last Tuesday. I bought Brain Training for Runners and the Runners' Repair Manual. Maybe I'll be inspired (or frightened, hard to say). :rolleyes1

Wow, this thread is moving fast this week! I ran 10.2 miles with my Nike Women's group on Saturday, clocking in at 1:56:37 for an 11:26/mi pace. Otherwise I was a sloth all weekend - turkey dinner on Saturday and a ticket to see the Calgary Flames vs the Vancouver Canucks (and yeah, Vancouver won!!) - ham dinner with new BF's grandparents on Sunday, and turkey dinner with my brother and SIL last night. Tonight I am meeting up with the Calgary Roadrunners for possibly some group speed work.

So sorry to hear about the injuries some of you guys are going through. PD for all of you!

I started when I was 12 or 13...and thanks for the congrats!!

You guys are such athletes and I'm sure you will all inspire me to continue running. Who knows...maybe I'll see you guys after crossing the finish line of a marathon one day!!

I ran 5 today - 52:30. Not so great. I can run 2 or 3 miles at a 9 min pace, but can't seem to hold up for anything over 4. Ugh.

Dana - I tend to smoke every now and again when I drink also. It's hard when my BF does the same. Neither of us smoke at home or during the day...but get a few beers in me and LOOK OUT! I also wanted to mention that I run on a rail trail as well and often times feel the same way about being out there alone. It can get creepy if you think too much about it!

Christa - I see the Evil Queen stuff. You might like my tattoo design on my chest. I'd post a pic, but they take up so much space. You can see my pics on my myspace page if you'd like. http://www.myspace.com/beva216

Honeibee - Not sure if I caught your name...but that you for the warm welcome!!

Actually...not sure if I know most of your real names, so sorry if I mess em up! I'm not good with names in real life..let alone on boards.

I'm going to go buy a running book now that I'm inspired...hope you all have a good night!!

Hey everybody! Wow, this thread is moving this week!!

Today, I had a 3 miler on the schedule. When I got home from work, the weather didn't look so good, but it wasn't raining just yet, so I headed out for my run, hoping the rain would hold off!

I finished my 3 miles in 29:07 with an average pace of 9:38!! It did start drizzling towards the middle of my run, but it wasn't so bad. So, all in all, it was a GREAT run for me!!!

Now, to catch up with everyone!!!

Lisa--foam rollers are great!! I have one at school that I use a lot and I am starting to think I need to invest in one for home!!
Colleen--sorry to hear that you have to defer your MCM registration, but it is well worth it in the long run...hope the knee is feeling better soon!!
martha--WTG for getting that 13 miler in while your DH was running his half!! That is great!!
Craig--Awesome job on the half marathon. Don't worry about those 36 seconds...you had a great race!! And to think how far you have come...I would say it was an AWESOME race!!
Terri--WTG for getting back into the swing of training. Don't worry about the times!! hope the 5 miler went well too!
Angie--Thanks for the pictures!!! Great job to your DH and friend!!
Kristin--WTG on your first half!! And a GREAT time!!! Keep up with your training and you can definetely do a full marathon!
Vic--Awesome job on the 9 miler!!! BTW--how bout that Talladega race...I wasn't too happy with all those DEI engines blowing up!! hopefully, dale jr. can pick up a win before the end of the year!
Dana--don't feel like you are whining!! We are all here to support each other!
Cam--glad to hear that your back is feeling better!! thanks for the book names...I think I may try to find myself those books and read them!
Dave--glad to hear your legs are feeling better! That is great information that I would have never thought of about hydrating after a deep tissue massage!!!
lourodrigis--WTG on the LBI race!! Some of my friends were down there this weekend, and all they kept saying was that they couldn't believe how hot it was, and they felt so bad for all the runners. they really need to start that race earlier..10am is just way too late! Sorry about your Phillies!
Susie---We all have ups and downs...keep up the good work, it will all be worth it when you cross that finish line...no matter what the time!!
Renee--don't worry about the stonker..we all have them once in awhile.
Villians Rock--Welcome to the thread!!! You will love it here!!
Krista--Welcome back!!

Sorry to those I missed...but I should really get some stuff done before I fall asleep..yes I am exhausted today!!

Villains_Rock - Nice to see you on the thread. I have run for years but never as consistent as I should. I would run 3+ miles a day about 5 times a week but would never stick to it. The races and this thread have me motivated enough to keep going. I ran 18 miles this weekend but prior to that my longest was 15 miles. Anyway, I was sore as heck the past 2 days and I thought I was crazy for doing this. However, today the pain is gone and my crazy butt was out again doing 5 miles. It's nuts but you'll find the more you do it the more addictive it gets.

Let me tell you...I have never run in heat like that before. It was crazy to come home and hear how people in Chicago died trying to run in the heat and know that I was out there for 3 hours in direct sunlight running 18 miles. I feel for those people.

The LBI race needs to get more organized because there was not enough water on that course for the conditions. If I run that race next year I will have to get one of those camelbacks because water was inconsistent.

HELLO TEAM!!

First I want to tell you guys the wierdest thing that has happened to me.

We had a wonderful time at RFTT this weekend, but the middle of last week I was not so sure how it was going to go. Something happened in the middle of the night lasT Tuesday (a week a go) and I spent the next two days in the worse pain I have had so far (to the point of being sick to my stomach !!:confused3 ) I do not care for pain pills, I have always refused to take them but when my dad offered some percocet for the weekend (he also has back problems) I took them just in case. I still did not know how I was going to enjoy our "adult weekend" at food and wine festival doubled over in pain. OK anyway long story short I took 1 Friday night and 2 on Saturday and I swear on my life my back has not hurt since.

It is the wierdest thing. I felt so good at RFTT Sunday I kept thinking I should be out there running. It still does not hurt. I have not run in 2 weeks so I did 3 with Bobby tonight and still no pain.:woohoo:

I saw the MRI, I know there is something wrong and I still have to get it fixed, but one week a go tomorrow I was in such a dark place I did not know HOW I was going to make it through the next 5 weeks till surgery. So I am just happy that for now it is bearable till then.

Sorry for the lengthy post. I also wanted to say that as usual the Food and Wine Festival was awesome then we spent the afternoon saturday at ESPN club watching my beloved USF BULLS work their way up to #5!! GO BULLS!!!!!

Next post to follow catching up with everyone

OK NOW TO CATCH UP

First to everyone -- I'm glad you liked pictures, I was very nervous about posting them I did not know if it was "wierd" but I was so proud of everyone and it was really cool to be on that side of the race.

There is NO WAY I can catch up with everyone, but I will do my best;

Kristin AWESOME JOB ON MARATHON!!!
Dana I'm really sorry about your horrible long run this week. It's amazing no matter how many good runs we have how defeating one bad run can be. I hope the rest of your week goes much better.
lourodrigis :worship: FOR RUNNING THAT LONG IN THAT HEAT!!
I know it's vey frustrating to not do as well as you wanted but the heat REALLY makes a difference. Last year the DISNEY was brutal heat for January and it was proven when we took 15 minutes off our time 6 weeks later at the Gasparilla 1/2 Marathon, which was 20 degrees cooler at start :confused3 I think you did AWESOME!
Eva WELCOME :welcome: You will love this group they are AWESOME!
Bill Thanks for telling me who everyone is!! You guys were awesome
Duane I would not even have expected you to see me, I'm just sorry I could not actually cheer for the people I took pictures of.
KRISTA Thank you, you are very sweet. Bobby's back is actually better than ever so much so he has decided to do the Disney 1/2. And on that note this will be the 3rd race we have done for AT, but the charity has really found a special place in my heart and I would run for them no matter what.

ON that note what is really cool is that even though I will not be participating in Marathon weekend this year DH and DS - 11 are doing family 5K on Friday and now DH is doing 1/2 so we will be there

Ok I promise I will catch up with everyone else later. I have to go to bed!!

Good morning all!! I'm off to the gym for a quick 2-3 miles then some floor work and weights. Then off to work for a few hours...then I'm on a mini vacation and have 5 days off!!! I'm planning on decorating. It's my favorite holiday!! :maleficen

Hope all of you have a great day!

Angie - Thanks for the welcome! I hope your back feels better untill you can get surgury. I've never had back problem *knocks on wood*, but my father has in the past and I know it's not fun.

Angie--So glad to hear that you'll be joining us in January! Let me know where you're going to be "scream teaming" your DH on and I'll meet up with you!

Krista--Glad to "see"you back around. And you have never been a former member of the WISH team-you know you'll never not be a member. Is the Columbus marathon this weekend or next? I'm thinking next? In any case, give Steve my best!

VillansRock--enjoy your mini-vacation!15 more days until ours starts!!!!

Heading to work in a few. Just checking my training schedule for today and I supposedly have a 5 mile tempo run on tap. We'll see about that. Hope everyone has a great Hump Day!

Not much to report as it was a rest day. Slept until 6:00am. :woohoo:

Hey, everyone, I heard from MSDave. He told me to tell everyone he said hello. He's having a bit of a rough time, but hasn't left us. He did 20 miles this past weekend. So let's send him a big ol' truckload of WISH :wizard: because we sure do miss him here. "beep beep beep"

Did you guys see this? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21213707/wid/11915773

OK, let me pretend to care about my job.

Hi, WISHers!

Wow, this thread is just flying this week. No way I can catch up with everyone; sorry! Seems that everyone is ramping up and getting ready for some big races. PD for all the injuries/illnesses! Hope Jackie gets a good report from the doctor today. Angie, weird with your back -- glad you got some relief! VillansRock welcome! You're from mt old stompin' grounds!

Today I had a tempo workout on the tm followed by a weight workout for my core. Funny this is I did most of the temp workout 30 seconds slower per mile than my friend who's doing the Kona Ironman this weekend will be running the marathon portion of it!! Definitely inspires me to keep going.

Happy training, all!

Last night was speed work with the Calgary Roadrunners - 8 x 400m repeats. I should have been aiming for about 2 min per repeat, but I didn't have my Garmin set up properly to watch the timer so I didn't really know how I did until after the fact:
1 - 2:10 (included a tad of warm up still, and the first interval)
2 - 1:54
3 - 2:02
4 - 1:59
5 - 2:10 (detour off the path due to some construction, and the final one to the turnaround - boy this one was tough!)
6 - 2:07 (hey, I saved 3 sec when I turned around)
7 - 2:03
8 - 2:02
I finished up with 3.28 mi in 30:10 for a 9:12/mi pace. Of course there was some standing around resting between intervals so it isn't like I was running full out the entire time!

Ah, Judy - yes a new BF. We've been dating for about 2 months so nothing too serious yet!

Howdy everyone!! :surfweb: I'm trying to pretend to be productive. Not doing so well at it.

Yesterday was a 7 mile run for me. Way too fast. I just wanted to run it but I know it was too fast. Not good having run 13 on Sunday but that's what the schedule calls for. Since I didn't run a race over the weekend and I didn't leave everything out there on the course, I have no excuse for sitting on my backside resting for more than a day. 30 min tonight. If it isn't raining it should be nice and cool to run.

WWDave: ahem, you're SHY? I don't THINK so!! Did the inventory get done?

Leana: DETAILS girl!! New BF? Yeah, yeah, I know, you posted something about running splits but hey! inquirying minds want to know...

Villians Rock: :welcome: to our little group! Congrats on quitting smoking and getting out there to run. It takes a lot to take that first step. And your 9 min mile pace so kicks butt over what I can do that I'm already jealous!!

hockeygirl: excellent job on the run! :thumbsup2

lou: geez, take it easy in the heat! Great job but stay safe!!

angie:  thinking about you--let us know when the surgery is!

Judy: great picture of DH. Do NOT show that to my DH as he really, really wants a motorcycle!!

Lily: hope you have a lot of fun on vacation and cannot wait to see you at ToT!

Cam: how's the back doing?

Gotta get back to work. Have a great afternoon everyone!!

Good afternoon everyone!

It's been a WTO week so far.

3.14 miles last night at a 11:45 pace. 5 miles scheduled for this evening.

Laurie - One of the few Talladega races I could take a "NASCAR Nap" and not miss anything. DEI and RCR better take a look at their new engine program. Received my new #88 cap and t-shirt last Friday. I'll give the DW my racing wardrobe want list for Christmas. :rotfl: New diecast are already on preorder. :thumbsup2

Judy - Tell Charlie, nice bike.

I'll try and catch up with you "Chattie Kathies" later. :rolleyes1

Hey all... Last night I did 30 mins on the elliptical and then 10 mins of Hills on the TM. That is all the time I had because I had to run and shower DD4 after her swim class.

Krista - OHHH it's so good to see you again! I am glad you haven't given up on running totally!

Judy - DH sold him motorcycle when I got PG with DD. He has been itching for one real bad lately, however he is more of a roadster type than a sport bike type. Tho I think he would gladly take whatever he gets at this point. Hope your DH enjoys his toy. OH, and you don't even want to see my back yard... YIKES, it's out of control 5 times worse than yours!!!

Vic - Your times are looking pretty good!!!

Angie - I am glad you have been pain free. I have had severe back pain also, so I know how it feels to have it gone!! :)

OK, work is my life... chat with you later.

Hi Everyone,

I have my half marathon this Sunday. I'm a bit nervous about it. I know I can do the miles, but I'm hoping to run around 2 hrs, so I'm putting a little pressure on myself. My runs lately have been a little disappointing. I did 15 last weekend which left my legs a bit tired, so my 4 mile tempo run mid week turned into a 1 mile tempo followed by 2 easy miles. I skipped my speed work on Friday since I was feeling tired and unmotivated. I ran 9 on Monday and hope to do 5 easy tonight and 3 easy on Friday. I'm trying to decide if this will get me to my race well rested or under-trained. I guess time will tell.

Vic: Sorry WTO. Hope things improve.

Eva: Welcome to the group.

Craig: Congrats to you on your race. You shouldn't be too upset about the 36 seconds, since you left it all out on the course that's all you can ask of yourself.

Terri: During my tough times in races or LR I like to pretend I'm giving a friend a pep-talk. I can usually be more encouraging to someone else than I tend to be to myself.

Lou: Nice job on your race. The heat must have been brutal.

Laurie: Welcome back to the boards.

Judy: I hope Charlie's new toy won't be too much of a distraction to him in his training. Be sure to remind him that LR stands for long RUN, not RIDE.

Martha: Good job getting 7 fast miles in.

Leana: Good job on the speedwork.

Renee: Good job on your tempo run. It's amazing when you see how fast others are, but then again, you're really fast compared to a lot of people too.

Angie: Glad your back is feeling better.

Sorry to all I've missed.

Have a great day everyone.

Stephanie - 15 days will zip by in no time!! Any big plans for your vacation?

Judy - My boyfriend is stunt rider...let me know if your husband wants any wheelie tips. ;) That is one NICE looking bike!!!

Martha - My 9 min mile boast might be misleading. That's my full on "5k" pace...and only for a 5K distance. The only time I did close to a 9 min mile for longer was when my brother in law told me he didn't think I could. Sooo..I had to prove him wrong and ran full-on for 4 miles on their high school track where they live. I about killed myself doing it too...LOL!! I'm so new to this that I haven't figured out the training aspect of it. I had just been going off a Hal Higdon chart I found online to get me ready for the 10K. Until I have another race to worry about I'll just run as much and as fast as I feel like that day I suppose. :confused3

Thank you to every one else for the warm welcome..nice to meet all of you!

Villians Rock: you still rock in my book! 9 min miles for any length of time is very impressive to me. And of COURSE you have to prove your BIL wrong!! I'm so there! If I can prove my DB wrong, EVER, I'm gonna take it. And he ALWAYS has to get in the last word! But I'm not bitter, nooooo.

But I digress.

Can I come over and play with Charlie's new toy, please?????

I had a motorcycle in my youth at CU. It was cheap to own and operate, and you could park it anywhere, very valuable on a congested campus. When I met Martha she thought it was cute, and on occasion she jumped on the back and rode with me.

We went through the early married years, and although I wanted a bike we had no money, so fine. In fact, one day my then 10 year old daughter walked up to our stupid white mini van and said, "here's your Harley Davidson Dad." Never in human history has a man been so thoroughly emasculated. Now that I have the time and the money for the bike of my dreams, my wife has drawn a line in the sand over this.

A bike vs. a wife? Let me think about that.

Just to be safe, can come over and play? This way I could get the bike and keep the wife.

Enviously,
Craig

Wow Judy, nice Bike, that must have cost more than mine and Erica's trailer. But our trailer came with a dog and a years lease on the lot. Once we got the wheels off it looked prety good.

Craig, keep the wife, sounds like you got a good one. Bikes make lousey snuggling on a cold day.

Judy--like the new toy--I'm not one of the motorcycle persuasion, so better your house than ours!;)

Kristi--Get better soon! Can't wait to see ya'll in a couple weeks!

VilliansRock--Our vacation is heading back to WDW for ToT. Can't wait! We're doing the race, F&W and MNSSHP--all in 4 days!:cool1: I just ordered myself an Elizabeth Swann Pirate costume last night to wear at the party!pirate: Argh!

Carrie--Miss you too! Hope work is going well--will see you in a couple weeks!

My 5 mile tempo run last night ended at 4 miles. I'm trying to work back into my schedule slowly, so I don't injure myself. Felt good--4 miles at 8:48. Today is more xtraining. My Dsis talked me into trying out a new class at the gym today--CardioTennis. It's like a circuit training course with hitting tennis balls included. She says it's lots of fun--but heck, she's the instructor, so what else is she gonna say! Okay, gotta go get lunches together! Update on my knee problems. Since I pulled out of MCM, I have now been to 3 orthopedists.

First - You have ITBS, go home and stretch.:sad2:

Second - Took X-ray, you have bone spurs on your patella. No ITBS. Keep running, it will be alright if you can handle the pain. In fact, come in a few days before the marathon and I will give you a steroid injection in the knee.:scared1:

Third - You are too old... you are too heavy...you are wearing down your knee...stop running or you will need knee replacement when you are 60. :sad1: He said he was 95% sure I couldn't do anything about the problem because I didn't have much space between my patella and my knee. (Funny ortho #2 didn't say this and he looked at the exact same X-ray.)

Finally, I asked ortho #3 for a MRI, since he was asking me to give up something in my life I truly loved. So I am going for MRI today and results back next Tuesday. Wish me luck!

WWDave: I KNEW I liked you! Yes, I do believe I am better for snuggling on cold winter nights and I generally make Calcio's life so much easier and much more fun!! :lmao: :rotfl:

Calcio: NO!! You may NOT go play with Charlie's bike. They don't call them organ donor machines for nothin'! I don't care if everyone else has one, if everyone else jumped off a cliff would you? I don't think so!!! :love2:

Judy: sigh, what am I gonna do?

Christa: I agree that you look just as fresh in the second picture as the first. I'd look like he** and not smiling if I'd just biked 100 miles!!

Kristi1357: I do hope that cold goes away soon! You've been fighting it long enough. Time for an eviction notice!!

Jackie: happy to hear your friend is OK after the Chicago fiasco!

Colleen: stick to your guns! Don't let them make such "diagnosis" without concrete evidence! Did you tell ortho #3 what #1 and #2 said? It is absurb. The only thing they can tell you is "stop running." Nope--not gonna fly. Let us know what the MRI tells them.

I've been up and to my training session and am now pretending to work. Not hard since I actually have work to do but still slow. Almost caffeine time! I ran 30 minutes last night and will run 30 tomorrow. They are calling for our rainy weather to be out of here by then so I can run outside. I haven't used a TM since I felt my IT on it so that's good. I hope the weather holds enough for me to complete my training before the marathon in January. I really, really, REALLY don't want to be running 20 miles or more on a TM!!

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Hello, WISHers!

Great photos - what fun to see my "imaginery" teammates and their family! Can't wait to see you all in person at ToT and marathon weekend!

Today was supposed to be a rest day for me, but since I had such a stonker on Monday I decided to do a short run. Thirty minutes on the hills and it was pretty good -- I could tell I was pushing my pace which I believe is a result of doing speedwork (or my version thereof) yesterday. Temp was in the 50's so it FINALLY feels like fall!

Jackie - Great news that you're back in running shoes!

Colleen - Are you by Raleigh? My DH had a knee surgery a couple years ago and liked his doctor. Don't know his name off the top of my head, but I could find out. (Of course I'd hate to find out he's one of the guys you've seen!) Sending PD your way.

Happy training, all!

Well...just got back from a nice 4 mi in the 48 degree rain. I love, love, love running in the fall rain, but my lungs HATE it!!! I think it's something to do with my allergy to mold and the wet leaves. I should have taken my inhaler with me...oh well, next time I'll remember. How many people on here are midwesterners?

Christa - I agree...nobody would every know you have been out sweating in the sun, riding for 100 miles!!

Colleen - I would not give up running without a 4th, 5th and 6th opinion all telling you to! I also think you should tell #3 about the other diagnosis'...and/or try yet another doc. I'll keep you in my thoughts and yes more :wizard: !!

Kristi - Those kids are sooo cute! I love children in weddings...they add a special something (not to mention comic relief sometimes too)!!

Stephanie - I would have loved to do the TOT!! But I had already registered for the RFTT before I knew about it. SO sad. I'm more of a daytime/night runner and early mornings are ROUGH for me. The TOT seems so much more up my ally! I'm definitely planning on it for next year though for sure!

OK all....have a good one...check-you-later!

Christa - I don't have any pictures to post from before and after the century, but If I did, it would just show me laying on the massage table w/ my mouth drooping open!! Lovely bike and lovely lady by the way.

I have not done much since the century this week. The boy is on break from school for 2 weeks. I think we may go for a bike ride today (if I can beat the laziness!) If not, I might run on the TM a little (yuck!)

Good morning folks! Wow, this week is flying by. My parents arrive from Indonesia this afternoon. In a week and a day I'm flying to San Francisco for my half. I can't wait! Terri and Susie - are you guys excited yet?

Yesterday I went for 5.52 miles over lunch. Finished in 57:26 for a 10:24/mi pace. Check out my mile splits...
1 - 10:58
2 - 10:41
3 - 10:28
4 - 10:18
5 - 9:50

How is that for progressive improvement? I skipped yoga to study for my impending professional practice exam last night. Today is a rest day, then Friday is my SLR of 4 mi, Saturday is my LLR of 6 mi. Sunday is the kick off of my curling season with my first game. Too bad I'll miss the following three weeks after it though thanks to all my travels and races.

For those of you asking about the BF, there we are on our hike of C-Level Cirque a week or so back. Cute, eh?

Christa - you do look the same before & after! Gosh, it's so unfair! ;)

Colleen - more :wizard: for you. Keep questioning these doctors!

Martha - I am sending that eviction notice today! ;-)

I think my cold may finally be on it's way out - thank goodness! Tomorrow is my last LR before ToT.

And since everyone is picture happy this week, I have to post one of Zack from the wedding on Sunday. :goodvibes
(sorry it's so big!)

My my my, they do marry young in the northern states. Cute kids though.

I think gator is a robot, she is the terminator sent here to show us the way. "We have ways of making you do Disney Races".:scared1:

Martha, have you heard the story of how we aquired the chocolate lab? Erica had been wanting a lab. I told her if she got another dog I would leave her. On Valentines day I came home from work there was a chocolate lab puppy sitting in my recliner. She said "happy valentines day, I got you a puppy". Called my bluff on valentines day, now how do you recover from a blow to your macho side like that?

I went out for an easy 2.5 miles this morning. This is taper week for my 10K race this saturay. This is our biggest race of the year.

Have an awesome day y'all.

A quick drive by - I managed to do 4 miles on the treadmill on Tuesday (had 5 scheduled but I felt like I was going to die - not really but...) so I decided to stop a mile short. Ended up getting outside yesterday after work and ended up doing 2.75 - walked the 1st mile, went up by the beach and then jogged home (I am realizing that I am very lucky that I live less than a mile from the beach) I guess the time wasnt bad (34 minutes - really took me more like 37 minutes but I had to wait for the bridge to go down both times - there and back so I took time off for that wait.) I just get frustrated because I feel like I am getting worse instead of better. All you guys with temps in the 50's and 40's are killing me!! Its still in the high 80's and our "cool" front that supposed to be moving through is not even going to do much but change the temp maybe 5 degrees - wow instead of 90 its going to be 85!!!

Coleen - Pixie dust to you and hopefully you can get a more favorable opinion from another dr. I would definately not pay attention to dr# 3.

All WISHer's with events this weekend GOOD LUCK - I will be out there Saturday morning doing a 5k in my hometown - kinda excited kinda nervous (my friend says it because its in Delray which is where I live and have lived all my life)

Dave Good luck on the 10k - had to personally wish you luck since you say that is your biggest race this year. I am sure you will do AWESOME!!!

Greetings all -

Three miles this morning, with a little tempo work thrown in just to stir things up a bit. :thumbsup2

Lisa - Super glue? Geez, why didn't I think of that weeks ago!!

Jen - We had a HD Gold Wing but it was just WAAAY too big. Besides, I would fall asleep on the back. We got rid of it and that is when I got my own. Besides, Charlie is so the sport bike type. ;)

Cindy - HA! L/RIDE! :lmao: I will tell him that! Ha ha ha! That's a good one. You resting up now? Getting ready??? You're going to do GREAT! I saw for myself how speedy you are!!

Villians Rock - A stunt rider? Oh please! Don't give Charlie any ideas! Hee hee.

Angie - Really?? You are IN?? YAY!!! :woohoo: To celebrate I will bring you some leaves! :lmao:

Jackie -Oh yes I remember very well being so happy to wear two shoes. Feels great, doesn't it!? :yay: Oh and YES that article made me mad too! Who is this idiot?! :headache:

Kristi - Hey I was thinking about and wondering how you were feeling. Wow, you had a great excuse not to train and you did anyway! Whoo hooo! :woohoo: Oh my gosh! What an adorable smile Zack has! What a little cutie. I know where he gets it from! ;)

Craig - Martha warned me not to post a picture on the Boards, but, well, I didn't listen. :rolleyes1 Oh you know you can come over anytime! We are not that far from you! You and Charlie can discuss it at ToT. I have a wimpy "girly" bike (which, next to the new one, looks even more wimpy!) but it suits me just fine. I much prefer sightseeing and checking out the neighbor's barns and horses and things rather then speeding about. And I have to say, Craig, if I were you, I'd keep the wife. :goodvibes

WWDave - You have a bone in your leg? :confused3 I've never heard that excuse before. :rotfl2:

Christa - It's Bike Week here at the DIS! :woohoo: Oh you look so cute! Hey, your bike is the same color as Charlie's! OK if I just rode a bike 100 miles picture #2 would be of me on a stretcher - and not just to meet the cute EMTs!

Colleen - Are any of those three doctors runner? :headache: I think you need to find one that is.

Leana - Whoa! BONUS! Helloooo! Thanks for posting THAT pic! Yummy!

WWDave: aw how cute! She sure knew how to get you! I'm sure it's been a wonderful ride with the pooch. Did you get to name it?

Leana: YUMMY!!!!! Nice eye candy.

Kristi1357: very nice picture! They are quite cute.

Villians Rock: is that you on the bike or someone you know? BTW--you are not helping me with Calcio ya know. You all have GOT to stop posting about motorcycles. I thought you all liked me! Waaaaaaa!!!

I must check in more often. Maybe I should become a monitor for this discussion thread so I can delete posts that include pictures or talk about motorcycles!! Not good, not good.

OK, am I the only one that doesn't see a difference? Nope. I don't look that good even after a shower and a hour of primping. Gees.

Well, I ran my double yesterday. 8 miles in the morning and 5 more in the evening. My knees hurt when I started out in the evening but they eased up pretty quickly. I felt strong the whole time too.

This morning I ran another 5. I had planned to go slow but fall arrived in Atlanta this morning and the cool crisp air insisted I run fast. It felt wonderful. Everyone in my group had a good fast run. Ahhh, if it could feel like that at Disney!

Evidently the deer on my running trail were enjoying the cool weather too. We had at least 4 of them cross the trail right in front of us. Close enough to us that we had to either stop or slow down to avoid being run over. I have hit deer before and almost hit them many times but this was the first time a deer almost hit me.

Anyway, I think splitting up the mid-week long run might actually have a great deal of benefits. I wonder where I could find out if anyone has done any research on this. I think I want to do more Wednesday runs this way but I want to make sure I am not risking injury.

Hi All

Colleen--:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Do you remember my Dr. Dumb-dumb? He was the top dog at Lahey Clinic's Sports & Ortho dept. He told me, "not everyone was meant to run a marathon" about six weeks before my first WDW marathon. He basically told me I couldn't do it. He was wrong:thumbsup2 (And my knee hasn't been an issue since).

Keep searching until you find a doctor who you believe in. Over the past 1.5 years of my spine nightmere I saw about a dozen specialists and NOT ONE told me about the spinal cord stimulator until I got to the Brigham & Women's Pain Clinic.

Speaking of my SCS, I had a tough time this weekend. I began to creep back to the dark place Angie mentioned. I lived there for far too long. I will not go back.

I'm loving all the picts! Keep 'em coming!

I should have something to post after Saturday...

BigVic-- Guess who we're going to see in person on Sat??????? Can ya guess?? Huh? Huh? Can ya???

Oh, all right... We're going to Muzi Chevorlet to see "our guy" Jeff Gordon in person:moped: (couldn't find the car). Supposedly we get to sit in his car.

An speaking of the Chicago Marathon, I added a new design to my cafepress that I think conveighs the right sentiment towards 26.2

Hey Team,

I cranked out a mid-week LR of 9 miles today in about 84 minutes. I was so not-motivated to do this run for various reasons (time - busy at work, and weather - dreary day). The good news is that I did it and it feels good to know I ran 9 miles when I really didn't feel like it.

Also, the weather here appears to finally be breaking and I think we will be getting the fall temps that we are used to in NJ. That should make it a lot easier to get the LR's in. I'll need them because I am still considering running the Philly marathon in November and I really need to kick out a 20-mile run sometime soon and I need some good weather.

Oh, no, I am doomed to NEVER catch up here!

Colleen -- I think we'll add that doctor to our "slap fest" victim's list, if you'd be so kind as to forward the names to me "in confidence". Can't wait to hear about the MRI.

Jackie -- woohoo!!! on the two shoes! Now, don't go trying to do too much, kiddo!! BTW, how is MB season going for you and yours? :)

Leana -- ooooo, nice . . . I hope he is as nice as he looks!!!

Cecilia -- hi!! Glad to see you survived the wild deer stampede. ;) I know what you mean about the cool air, though. It was so nice here this morning that it made you just want to RUNNNNNNNNNN!!!!

Christa -- yeah, what they said! Geez, girl, do you EVER take an uncute picture?

Dave -- funny story about the furbaby! Erica sure has your number, doesn't she?

Sunny -- I am glad you are feeling better though I'm so sorry you had a rough weekend.

Kristi -- Zach looked great!! I've only ever seen him in fast-forward mode. He looks gorgeous even when he is still!

Angie -- I am so happy for you!!! Can't wait to see you there!

Stephanie -- how are you feeling today?

Renee -- Great job for getting out there! :thumbsup2

Okay, here is the PT update I sent Howard:
Apparently, I injured my thoracic spine. The soft tissue and muscles around that area of the spine are still inflamed and my range of motion is actually significantly affected, which I hadn't noticed. She gave me one specific exercise to do to work on strengthening and straightening that part of my spine but said she can't add anything else right now because it is still injured.

I am allowed to keep doing my crunches on the ball but straight only and I am to concentrate on keeping my spine "neutral". I am not allowed to do anything with any kind of twisting motion. I can also keep doing my push ups on the ball. There is some degenerative deterioration in that part of my spine, too, which she said is unusual and is hoping to slow that down since it shouldn't be happening at this young an age (I LOVE that she called me young!). She did some very targeted electric stimulation and ice for 20 minutes and then some ultrasound as well, since the swelling and inflammation were still severe, even almost 2 weeks from when I woke up in pain. She and I both think I did something during that Thursday night core strengthening class; that my form was bad or the number or duration of particular moves might have been excessive. She was impressed when I told her the pain is 1-2, at most and it had been 8-9 because she said it is still such a significant injury that I must have been in terrible pain last week.

I really, really liked her and she is so respectful about the exercise I do now and my training and promises she'll find ways to keep me active and injury-free and even stronger.

Oh, and I knew immediately that I'd like her -- she was wearing crocs! :)

Well hello everyone!!!

I must apologize for making it a whole month between check-ins, but I have been engaged in the ultimate of LTO tasks:

Moving!

In just three weeks time, I will be on official Floridian as we are relocating to Ft Lauderdale!! :thumbsup2 Everything has happened so fast since we got back from our trip in mid-September. I was offered a job while down there that would be a real boost for me. As I really like the city and know several people down there already, we decided to go ahead and take the plunge....

So it's been decluttering and packing and decluttering and cleaning and renting a Ryder truck and putting the house up for sale ever since. All while working six nights a week.... thus no time to check in with my WISH team. The good news is that we've gotten done everything we really need to at this point and are just waiting until that last week do our final big packing. In related great news... we've sold the house!!! After just four days on the market!!! :faint: (How we managed to do that in the current market I have NO IDEA...)

Needless to say, my training has suffered greatly, but I have got back on track this week (Training note: Today's run-- 5 miles in 49:11) and I'm actually looking forward to the back-to-back LR's this weekend (6 Sat/12 Sun).

I promise to check in more often and catch up as soon as I can....

For now, Happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

PS: How odd is it that I now can say that I will be driving UP to go to Marathon Weekend?!?!

Cam--doing great around here--thanks for asking. Glad you found a great PT! That makes all the difference! Keep yourself healthy so we can see your pretty face in a couple weeks!

My Cardio-Tennis class was a blast today. I hadn't been on a tennis court in ages. We did line drills, jump roping, work with resistance bands and the stability ball--then we ran over to the court and hit forehands and backhands--then ran back over to the circuit. I think I'm going to be a regular in this class.

Oh, and I forgot to post this earlier--but here is the link to the marathon photos from the Akron Marathon that DH and I did on the 29th

Kevin: so very happy to see you! We've been wondering where you were. So happy to hear that you've found a great opportunity in Florida and now you'll be able to run more Disney races without the big travel expense! Nice to have sold the house too!

Colleen - Hope the MRI gives some answers. Keep searching until you find a doctor who understands that you must run!

Leana - Cute BF!

Cecilia - I've seen those deer. I had to stop for them too!

Kevin - Congratulations on the new job and the sale of the house.

Cam - The PT sounds wonderful. Are you going to be able to do ToT? As for MB, not so good. We have a new band director, and it's her first year doing high school. Our first competition did not go well, and Annie was very disappointed after all the practice. Competition #2 is next weekend, so we're keeping our fingers crossed that they will have improved, but I'm not sure that the staff has the knowledge to get them where they need to be.

The cool weather is killing me! I'm counting the days (if not the hours) until I can run. Might need to take next Wednesday off...

Jackie -- Thanks for asking about ToT. I will definitely be able to do it -- when I did my 4 miles Monday night, I noticed my back hurt more when I was pumping my arms when I was running. I'll just be careful if it is still tender.
Poor Annie! Jenn's marching band went through that with a new director. He put together a very simple show just because he had no knowledge of the kids' capabilities and the judges ended up "hitting" them for the lack of complexity both musically and visually. She got over her disappointment once she recognized that it was a growth year and that she could have fun even if they weren't winning. Andrew's band finished 4/6 and 2/4 at their competitions last weekend and the director was absolutely thrilled. The parents are excited that our band is the only on in our group at a competition on the 20th and we will get a first place trophy. Color me :confused3 ! Tell Annie congratulations on her hard work -- from a band mom and a former very competitive musician! :thumbsup2

Good Evening Team

You really are a chatty group, all day I have been following the thread, while I was working really hard :rolleyes1 but I don't have time to post. I am going to try really hard to catch up the best I can :confused3

Leana Your times on your workout reports are awesome. You are going to kick but at GOOFY! Very cute pic by the way (BF  )and good luck with the studying, I am so thankful mine is done for a while. In 3 1/2 years I will be studying for PE (Professional Engineer) I'm not looking forward to it.
Cindy Good luck this weekend, I'm sure you will do fine!! :dance3:
Jackie Awesome on the 2 running shoes!!:yay: You are going to be running before you know it. I know what you mean about the cooler weather, it's actually cooling off here a little and it's killing me. One thing I am learning through all of this too is we are still runners even if we can't run because of injuries - that's what i keep telling myself anyway!:lmao:
Kristi good job on the 3 even if you don't feel good and ADORABLE picture!!!
Christa LOVE THE PICS and I agree with everyone else I see NO difference!! You are amazing :yay:
Stephanie AWESOME pace on the 4 miles, glad you liked the class and the pictures are WONDERFUL !! Man I miss running :sad2: You can DEFINATLEY come scream team with me at the 1/2. You are going to have an awesome time at TOT and everything else, I am so jealous. We will DEFINATELY be there next year!!
Colleen I am so glad you keep pushing the doctors and I agree with everyone else to find one that respects what you want and what you do. Bobby's surgeon told him not to run anymore after his surgery, but that riding around on his mower that bounces him around all day is fine :confused3
Then my surgeon said it is fine we should both keep running, again :confused3
Sending lots of pixiedust: pixiedust: and :grouphug: Hang in there!!
Martha I REALLY hope that you don't have to do 20 + on treadmill, I think I would rather have my toe nails pulled out. Extreme? Yes but so is all that time on a treadmill.
Eva Good job on the run. I am exactly the same way, I love to run in that weather but lungs refuse to cooperate!!
Tricia I am right there with you on the heat. I AM SO OVER IT!! Good job on all the training.
Cecilia Good job on the run and it sounds wonderful with the Deer and all!! I always wondered about breaking up my runs, sounds like it worked out pretty good.
Sunny You are such an inspiration and I can see why you don't want to go back to that place, it's horrible. Thank you for the new design, it's awesome :dance3: As usual your strength and perserverance are SUCH AN INSPIRATION.
Lou Awesome time on the run!! Did you see my BULLS are #5 now GO BULLS!!!
Cam I am so glad that you found a doctor who respects your goals and what you are working for. Sending lots of :grouphug: pixiedust: for a VERY SPEEDY recovery. And I think it's awesome you are listening to your body, so it doesn't make it worse.
Kevin WELCOME TO THE SUNSHINE STATE!! :cool2: Hope you like HEAT cause we have plenty.

Ok I REALLY hope I got everyone!!

Obviously no training for me tonight but DH is out as we speak and DS and DH did 1 mile tonight (DS is getting ready for marathon 5K) I am so proud of him, this is his first "official week of training" -- only 2nd run and they did a whole mile without stopping in 13.5 minutes. :dance3: DS did not feel so good about it but I keep telling him he did AWESOME!! Have a good night everyone.

OK - I was a good girl today.! I ran 3 miles on the TM then I did yoga. I rode 6.75 w/ boy on the trail-a-bike at the nat. military park. He had a great time. My legs were a little sluggish after the 100mile ride this weekend, so the hills were a challenge today. I used my mt. bike which is heavier, but I didn't want to pull the heavy trail-a-bike behind my skinny tired road bike!!

Krista - the job is great. The new dog has ISSUES!! She was so sweet and quiet when we got her. she is insane now. We take her running quite a bit. Even took her on an 8 miler and she did fine. Today was the 1st time she had been around the TM. She is a red heeler (mix) so the whole time I was on the TM she was trying to herd me by biting my calf!!! I had to run w/ one of the boy's little plastic POTC swords in my hand to point at her when she would come at me. It was quite the sight!! (and sound for that matter!)

Melissa, do I know you? JK, good to hear from you. Too funny about the dog, would have loved to see you wielding that sword today.

Cam, hope you start feeling better.:wizard: I am glad you are able to run TOT!

Angie, thanks for your stories re the docs. You know, I used to think doctors were all-knowing. Was I ever naive. Funny thing I forgot to mention. I asked all three orthos how long it would have taken for my bone spurs to develop. One said 3-5 years, one said 1 year and the last said 5-10 years, that it would take 5 years before they even showed up on a X-ray. Hmmmm, who to believe, who to believe.:sad2:

Off to put the kids to bed.

Hey all... Instead of running I went to bootcamp class for the first time. I'm gonna feel that in the morning!!!!!

CARRIE - OH MY GOSH!!! I can't believe you are here!!! :rotfl2: Thanks for asking, but no things have not gotten better. I just grit my teeth and pray!!!! Is the Detroit race next week? OH I wish I could but work is making me fly to Washington State for a presentation. BLAHHHH! All alone none the less.

Cam - Oh I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis! :grouphug: Take care of yourself so you heal quickly! I have a back injury that gets irritated frequently, so I can relate to what you are going through!!!

Martha/Judy - We are in Harley country here (even tho DH is not the biggest fan). Oh but DH does also want a dirt bike so he can fart around in the back 40. MEN!

Stephanie - You look great in those pics. So if the clock time was 4:11, what was your chip time? That is awesome.

OK, I guess I better pay attention to my family! Have a great night all!

Cindy

Good luck with your half this week. Where is it? I much appreciate the kindness you showed in the spring sending the routes and distances around the Charles River basin, but as I've driven in to my new job I've noticed the routes are (1) on concrete and (2) you have to stop at the bridges and lights. I have those calf tears so concrete is a danger, and once I'm going I don't like to stop, so the lights are a no-no as well. The runners in the early AM look nice down there, but for now I'll pass on the basin.

Colleen

Too old and too heavy? This is a doctor of philosopy speaking, but I've seen you twice for a fair amount of time, and I think you are a total babe. Tell your MD to pull his or her head out of that place where the sun don't shine. What a dope.

Kevin

It is always good to hear from you. Enjoy the sun, but be careful driving in a county where the average age is 97.

Okay, the bike thing is the topic du jour. I've spent the day teaching finance to 160 undergraduates and graduate students, so I've been out of reach. When I was in the office early this morning I saw the fellow who taught Steve McQueen to ride had died of natural causes last night, the fellow who did the jump over the barbed wire fence in "The Great Escape." I sent the story to Martha with the comment, "I still want a bike."

A few years ago, Charles "Pete" Conrad, the 3rd man to walk on the moon, a pilot and hero of mine, as all the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo astronauts are and were, died in a motorcycle accident at age 69. All I could say when I heard the news was "bless you," and "far better than dieing in a hospice."

With apologies to Kenneth Grahame and "The Wind in the Willows:"

Martha (Badger) has locked Craig (Toady) in the study and given him a good talking to about acting responsible . . .

Martha

Craigy has seen the error of his ways, and is here to state he is renouncing motorcycles for ever.

Craig

Well, well, he he . . .

Martha

Didn't you say in there that you would never touch a motorcycle again?

Craig

Yes, in there. You're so elequent in there Martha.

Martha

And don't you agree to never ride a bike again?

Craig

Shaan't. In fact, I promise to do the exact opposite. As soon as I get away from here I promise to ride the very first motorcycle I see.

Martha

I see you are a most wicked Craig, and cannot be trusted.

Craig

WWDave, you are right, a beautiful babe of a wife is better for cuddling up against on cold evenings, and we get many in New England. On the other hand, riding gives an exhiliration which is quite unique in its own way.

I want a Ducati. Patented sound, red and beautiful. And Italian as well. What could be more beautiful?

I can say for certain, wife or no wife, if and when I get a place in Breckenridge, I'll get me a bike, just like the one I had when I lived there in 1970. Well there will be one big difference. The new bike will have a bit more than the 50 cc engine my honda mini trail had when I was 13.

And tonight at dinner, all Lesley could say was "here's your harley davidson dad."

Like I said, totally emasculated. I'm being oppressed.

I am so happy to read everyone's posts here. It is wonderful that we have become such a team! I am so swamped right now I am not sure which foot to put in front of the other. It is vaca starting tomorrow and I will be looking forward to lots of R&R.

Sorry my Boston friends, but Go Tribe!

Finally went running after something like 9 days off- first 6 days or so were legitimately taken off due to a death cold; last 3 days were more LTO/WTO/"oh what's one more day?!" Did 3 miles on TM at ok pace. I guess that's good.

I may sign up for a 5k on Saturday. I haven't decided- wish I could see the T-shirt first. ;) Part of me is thinking of going with Judy's "PR or the ER" philosophy, but the rest of me would like to sleep in...

The motorcycle thing is cracking me up. I have a friend who bought a motorcycle a few months ago. At the height of my death cold misery when I couldn't imagine running ever again, I saw her on the motorcycle and thought "why couldn't that have been my new obsession!?":lmao: Would have taken a lot less effort (and hey, "PR or the ER" would still work!)

Night everybody! I'm too tired to find the pixie dust smilie, but everybody get well and have a great weekend!

Sorry my Boston friends, but Go Tribe! Now we're talkin'!! Thanks Lily!

Eva - I grew up in Wadsworth. You near there?

Mel - :rotfl: :rotfl: about the pup! I can just imagine Carrie trying to stay on the "rotating plank" while fending off the dog.

Cam - Take it easy on the back. I am glad you are feeling better and equally glad you found a PT that you like.

Kevin - Congrats on the move and the quick sale. Good job getting back out on the road (or trail as the case may be). Enjoy running in the cool weather. You may never see it again!

Judy - Little did you know that posting a simple picture of Charlie on a bike was going to result in the marital strife of a couple of teammates. Me thinks that Craig may just as well get his Ducati because there aint gonna be much snuggling up with Martha at this rate anyway.

And BTW, I'm pretty sure that if someone posted a picture of a nice looking GF or DW (like Leana's BF picture) and I said "Yummy", I'd be compared to some porcine barnyard animal.

Angie - I did see the Bulls are #5. Nice win over WV a few weeks ago. It looks like you have an undefeated season in your grasps. However, you do have those pesky Rutgers Scarlet Knights from my home state of NJ on 10/18. Should be a good game but I would bet on the Bulls.

Lets go FLYERS! It's time to jump on another band wagon. We're 2-1.

Leana - are we going to meet this new BF at ToT?

Sunny - have a blast tomorrow!

Carrie - so glad you could check in. Can't wait to see you at ToT!

Cam - I am so glad you can still do ToT. I was afraid to ask about that!

Kevin - nice to see you check in. And selling your house in 4 days in this market is amazing!

Jackie - yay for 2 shoes! :yay:

MelR - love that you found another use for the swords! :rotfl:

Stephanie - love the marathon pics! Your time is awesome, woman! :worship:

I did get an email from Tiffany not too long ago. They are doing well. She is not registered for any Disney races coming up, but she has started training again and plans to do some local 5ks and such. She misses us too.

As for the Red Sox....I am from Boston. But, them being in the playoffs makes my job 100 times harder. So, I secretly hope they lose.:rolleyes1

I am getting nervous about my ToT training, or lack there of. :sad2:
First, my knee was sore, so I took some days off.
Then, this cold had me down for days & days.
I thought I was better.
Then last night the cough/asthma got worse again - hacking all night.
I have a 7 miler on deck today and I am not sure I can, or should, do it.
Ugh.

Jen - Glad you got over your cold and were able to get back out there and run. It seems that once we have a break its hard to get back into it but once we are into it its hard to get us to stop!!!

Kevin - congrats on the job and selling the house in 4 days - that is amazing!!! Looks like you will be close to my "neck of the woods" (to use an Al Roker saying!!) I would like to second that about enjoy running in the cold weather while you can because you won't be seeing much down here!! Hope you enjoy Ft Lauderdale and maybe we will be running some of the same races soon.

Mike - LOL about the porcine barnyard animal comment!!!

Kristi - I too am nervous about the TOT coming up and training issues. I hope you are feeling better and that your 7 miler today goes good. I am supposed to have a 7 miler scheduled for this weekend but I have a 5k race on Saturday morning so it looks like Sunday I will be busy!! LOL If you can't manage the whole 7 just get in what you can because you don't want to make yourself sicker.

As for me I did 3.1 miles on the TM yesterday right after work. It felt good - I ran the first 2 miles without stopping (trying to get my mind to realize that I don't need to stop to walk!!!) and then I walked for .25 miles and ran the rest. Don't really like the time on the TM but I realize I'm slower on the TM then outside so it was ok. Today is a rest day and I have a 5k race tomorrow morning. I have a meeting out of the office today all day UGH - so that means I will be away from the computer all day - double UGH!!!!

Good luck with training everyone and races this weekend - be safe!!

Good Morning All! Today is a DO for me since I have a ton of housework to do and tomorrow I'll be walking all day because I'll be at Cedar Point for Halloweekends!!! For those of you that think the Tower of Terror are bad...take a look at these bad boys! The one with the single hill is Top Thrill Dragster and the double is Millennium Force. I refuse to ride Millennium unless it's in the front seat!!! Wooooo!!!!! Can't wait! :woohoo:

http://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/themeparks/new03/cp_dragster/img/cp_topthrill_photo.jpg

Mike - I live in Medina and work at the airport. I have lived in Litchfield and Lakewood as well. At one point I was dating a guy in Akron and would drive past Wadsworth every day. Never been there though. I heard they have a huge Super WalMart and word is...they are getting a Cabela's (I LOVE CABELA's!!!)

Kristi - I have seasonal/allergy asthma as well, and it can be tough this time of year. Not sure if your's is allergy related, but I've found that if I take an antihistamine a half hour before I run I feel better. The only drawback is, it can either make you tired or if you use the non-drowsy your heart may not like all the exercise. Can you talk to your doctor and see if they recommend anything?

Good morning WISH Warriors.

Today is final rest day, my 10K is in the morning. 10K is the longest race I do where I go as hard as possible the whole race. The longer races I just try to get in a grove and coast. I'm hoping to walk it in 1:10 to 1:12. I did it last year in 1:13:32.

All the rest this week has made my legs feel good. I did a 12 miler on Monday but then just a 2.5 mile on Wed. I usually don't taper but I needed my long walk for the Goofy training and needed to recover before the 10K.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow's race, this course is certified so it's a qualifier course for the Olympic Trials. We usually get some of the Kenyans because of the prize money but this year we might get some good USA talent also. We have a high school kid here in Bowling Green who ran the fastest 5K cross country time in the country, for a high schooler, this year.

I got BOOed, Thank you Jen:love:

2 weeks till Tower of Terror. :dance3: Is the WDW ready for the "Raiders of the lost YARC". So many Pretty Princesses in one place will surely make WDW the most beautiful as well as the happiest place in the world.

Looks like Martha has to use the royal stick on that rebel hubby of her's. That reminds me of a commercial on TV for Home Depot, a truck pulls up to this house and the driver comes to the door and says to the husband, "just sign here for your new kitchen appliances". The husband said, "What new appliances". The wife turns on a tape recorder and the husbands voice comes out saying, "honey if I can get new golf clubs, you can get what ever you want". Should be an interesting weekend around the RedDragon Lair.popcorn::

Have an awesome weekend y'all.

Man, you guys are hard to keep up with:rotfl: looks like everyone's training is going well. I took a pilates class on Wednesday and I'm still sore. lol. Guess what I got in the mail today? My medal from the Boulder Backroads, with a note stating that a shipment go lost and that's why I didn't get one on race day. I wonder why they didn't say that @ race day instead of telling me that I did not meet the required time? Hmm, strange.

Morning teammates! Thanks for the compliments on the pictures! I know where to come for an ego boost:rotfl:

Jen--my official time was 4:10:31--according to the website that was also the gun time:confused3 apparently they didn't look very closely at the clock;)

Carrie--So glad to see you!:goodvibes Glad that work is going well--busy but good. Ya'll still at SSR for ToT? Kristi and Chad are going to be heading over to drop Zack off iwth my SIL before the race, so maybe we can caravan over together!

Kristi--PD that you can get your 7 miler in, and with no issues. You need to kick that cold to the curb!

Eva--My DH is from the Canton area and I've driven through Medina many times on our way back and forth from Cleveland.

And on that note--GO INDIANS!!!!! I'm not a huge baseball fan, but if I were to root for the Sox, I'd be sleeping on the porch tonight. Now the Browns are another story--rooting for them can get down right embaressing;) I'll split the difference and root for the Pats--who, oddly enough, we have ties to as well. Okay, gotta go check out that crash I just heard!

Good morning team!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Friday!!!!!!!!! 2 weeks from today I could potentially be on an airplane headed south. :woohoo: :woohoo: We have seats on a 3:00 flight, but there is an 8:00 am flight that has like 40 seats still open, crossing our fingers we can fly stand by and make it to WDW by noon!

I guess I should give my training report for this week, let's see 5 miles on Monday, 30 minutes on the stationary bike, random hill program (11 miles) and weights on Tuesday, a date with a couch, sweat pants, and a blanket on Wednesday , and 3 miles last night. This weekend I have 7 scheduled, I'll either do it tomorrow or Sunday, with the Steelers having their bye this week, my Sunday afternoon is totally free! And I am TOTALLY lovin' this weather--it's finally fall!!!!!! The only downside is that everyone is sick as we went from a high of 96 degrees on Monday to a high of 56 on Wednesday. I swear I smelled a hint of snow in the air this morning! :cheer2:

Eva--Now you're talking my language!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE Cedar Point!! And Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster. My husband, Stephen (he posts on here sometimes, skfulkers) and I got engaged at Cedar Point on 7/9/99 and now we got up there at least once a summer. Great job on the running and congrats on being smoke free!!

Melissa--I would pay money to see you running on the treadmill and fighting the dog off with a plastic sword! :lmao: I'm glad everything is going so great for you and your family, hope to see you soon!

Carrie--HI!!!!!!!!!! Good to see you again!!! I miss you lots! Although I've been a stranger here myself over the past few weeks. Glad that you still love your new job.

Kevin--Congrats on the move and the new job! You know you're going to have to keep your dogs shaved, they are NOT going to like that hot weather. At least your dogs can become trilingual and add Spanish to the mix. :)

Stephanie--Columbus is next weekend, 10/21, but Stephen is not running the marathon either. On his last 20 miler, his runner's knee flared up again, he took three days off, ran 4 and it started hurting again. He decided to not run Columbus, concentrate on biking and the Disney marathon. By the way, you fabulous in your marathon pictures. What kind of arm weights do you do? Your arms look AWESOME! Very defined!

Judy--Trouble maker. ;)

Craig and Martha--You two are too funny!!! :lmao: Now kiss and make up!

Kristi--How cute is Zach!! And I love the red hair!!!!!! I can't believe how much he's grown since January! Great job on your 3 miler.

Leana--Very nice!!! Will he be coming to Disney with you? Or is it still way too early for that?

Mike--If Stephen posts a picture of me and you say "yummy", I promise I will not be mad at you.

Christa--Are you sure you biked 100 miles between the 2 pictures? Because you look AWESOME in both of them!

Cindy--Good luck with your half this weekend!!!!

Colleen--That doctor is a moron. (Can I say that on here?) You old? Too heavy? PLEASE!! You are not old and you are definitely NOT too heavy. You look great. I'm hoping you find the perfect doctor who will get you back out there on the road in no time! :wizard:

Jackie--:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your feet!!!!!!

I know I missed people and I'm sorry, but I've been typing this forever and my work is slowly (well, actually quickly) piling up! I'll be back later!

Training is going well. 5 miles on Wednesday and 3 last night. No significant foot problems.

Krista - Man, I get blamed for ever-y-thing around here. (Where's the kicking rocks smilie??) Oh I really hope you get your earlier flight! :wizard:

Vic--Uh oh--don't know if we can still be friends--didn't know about the Massilon ties.;) My FIL used to coach football at Canton McKinley, so under no circumstances could we EVER root for the Tigers of Massilon.

Carrie--Yep, still doing MNSSHP on Sunday night. I just ordered my costume this week--gonna be Elizabeth Swann, gotta love a pirate costume iwth ruffles!;) We're using Magical Express too, but I think we get in before you. We'll be over at SSR sometime early on Friday. We're staying at an airport hotel Thursday night, so as soon as I can get those jokers out of bed on Friday we're heading to WDW!

Krista--Thanks for the arm compliments (that sounds really odd) Anyway, I use dumbells (10-12lbs) for bicep curls and tricep extensions; also use them for a little shoulder work when I feel the urge (not very often;) ). Then I use machines for chest presses and pec. work. Then in circuit classes we use the resistance bands for the same exercises. Tell, Stephen that I'm sorry that his knee is acting up. But glad to hear that he's taking some time to be healthy for January.

Okay, naptime--I woke up at 2:00am and couldn't get back to sleep--and then DH came home from his second shift of the day at work around 2:30, so I decided since I was up I'd chat with him. Little did I know that DS wanted to get up at 5am. Ugh, so I'm dragging a little today. Good thing it's a rest day!

Hey guys! Haven't had time to read but here is a LR report.

I will start with last night:
I decided to use my Ipod this morning. As most of you know, I never have used my Ipod on anything except treadmill running. I am kinda "Old school" and feel like I should not have to entertain myself while running....but I though....Christa, you are still putting in the steps and the music may help.

I now have mixed feelings now about running with music. On one hand, Pour Some Sugar on me" and Some song from Pirates II got me up Morehead the 1st time and "Sweet Emotion" and and another song I cannot remember got me up the 2nd time. However, for the most part, the music just got in my way. I love to take in outside, hear my foot falls, check how I am breathing, think, pray...ect, and the music seemed to mess with that. It may be I am not used to it though.

ANYWAY....
Did 11.5 miles tempo run. Time was 1:36. Ave pace was 8:24 MPM. Last weeks 18 mile pace was 8:47, so I guess this was a good tempo run. I am pleased with the pace, but the run was a struggle. Not sure why. The weather was perfect! But I had to force each step....it may be the route or may be the music, or may be just the fact that I ran UP Morehead 2X....not sure. But it is over and I am doing 20 next week....:scared: :scared:

Hi Everyone -

I had forgotten how wonderful a rest day is when I get up in mileage. I think my TIVO is in shock since I actually watched some of the shows it recorded.

Tomorrow is a 10 mile run. The first for most of the people runnig with me. I am excited for them, it should be fun. What do you think M&M's or Skittles as a prize at the finish? I never eat the candy at the finish but most people do. Mu kids love it though.

Cam- Glad to hear you found a PT that you like. That can make all the difference in how the whole recovery goes.

Kevin - Congrats on selling you house! I hope you have an uneventful move. I just tried to think of moving as crosstraining. That made me feel better about missing so many runs.

No video of doggie/tm/sword event, but it wouldn't be that hard to get!!I was thinking America's funniest home videos. That could pay for a lot of races ya know.

Off to catch up on some more TIVO....

Hi all,

Just checing in. It's been awhile. My laptop died and I have been without computer for a few weeks. Luckily my dh was able to pull all my files/music and now I have a new VERY nice laptop.

Pat, sorry I didn't see you at the arboretum. I read your race report. I am glad that they had such a nice turn out, but hope they are better prepared next year. My ds3 was up all night with croup and I didn't feel right leaving him plus I was exhausted! I liked what you said about 5k being short. I don't think I can say the same yet.

I haven't really walked more than 2 days/week since the CDC. I have been doing yoga 3x/week. I just started classes at a studio and am enjoying the new teachers.

My dd16 and I are looking forward to TOT. Hoping to be able to handle the 13k after lack of training. At least the pace is very generous. Maybe I should of signed up for the 6.5k:confused3 My dd16 keeps torturing me about my promise to ride ToT for the first time. :goodvibes

I haven't had a chance to catch up on posts. Hope all is well and everyone's training is continuing safely.

Can't wait to join fellow teammates at the end of the month!

Happy Friday folks! I got my Short Long Run in over lunch today - 4.2 mi in 44:10 (10:31/mi). A pretty uneventful run, but it felt good. I was having a stressful morning and that helped to calm things down a bit! It was also another run of improving mile splits:
1 - 11:09
2 - 10:40
3 - 10:15
4 - 10:09
0.2 - 9:37
Tomorrow is a 1 hour run with my SF ladies, then Sunday is my first curling game of the season. Too bad I'm missing three weeks of curling after that thanks to my crazy racing schedule!

Hi, all, just stopping in for a quick hello at the almost-end of an insane work week. Missing you all and thinking about the fact that 2 weeks from right now we'll be having dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern. Looks like Howard and I will be dining alone, unless anyone wants to join us -- we have an ADR for 6 at 4:20.

Hoping to get in some miles tomorrow and to do the breast cancer 5k Sunday morning. I'm very nervous about it because a lot of my co-workers will be there for the walk that starts after the 5k run, and I REALLY don't want any of them to see me in workout clothes or huffing and puffing my way across the finish line. :lmao:

Have a great weekend, teammates!!!! :grouphug:

Hi,

Thanks to everyone for the good luck wishes for my race on Sunday.

Craig: I'm running the Baystate 1/2 marathon. It's in Lowell, MA. We finish in the Lowell Spinners Stadium so I think I get to run the bases. I'll have to restrain myself from sliding into home plate. You are right about all the traffic lights along the Charles. There are some pedestrian underpasses to avoid crossing some of the bridges (at BU bridge and Longfellow) so you can find a few stretches where you won't have to stop. Also, there are grass/dirt paths to run on so you can avoid the cement sidewalks in most parts. You may want to give it a try for one of your shorter runs. On a crisp Fall day the energy is fantastic.

Cam: Please don't worry about your co-workers seeing you in work out clothes. They'll see your radiant glow that comes from your accomplishment in finishing your race. And if they don't well there's something wrong with them.

Leana: Nice job on your run. Your split times are definitely improving.

Christa: Great job on your temp run.

Cecilia: Good luck with your 10 miler. I think Skittles would make a nice post-race treat. It seems like it would be more refreshing.

Maggie: Welcome back to the boards. Congrats on the nice new laptop.

Have a great night everyone.

I am feeling MUCH better about ToT now though!

I can't believe everyone was TMI-ing over Dave in his boxers.
What about Dave being a Chippendale dancer?
Now, those boys do scare me.

Speaking of WWDave....I came up for a song or two for him during my wogs - "Let's Go Crazy," "Welcome To The Jungle" or maybe "Crazy Train." :rotfl:

I should explain - I think about certain WISHers during certian songs. It really helps me keep going. I thought about alot of you & all the pain & injuries that have been going on. And how I should not be complaining & wanting to bail since I am tired. Many of you would kill to be able to be out there now, rather than recupperating.

I still need songs for more of you!
The ones that make me think of certain people relate to something we were talking about here, or a funny story, or whatnot. I need more songs for more people!
This is what I have so far:
Cam - "Stay With You" and "Live Like You Were Dying"
Christa - "Pour Some Sugar On Me"
Carrie - "Here It Goes Again" (she knows why :rolleyes1 )

I think maybe Sunny should be "Tubthumping" - "I get knocked down, but I get up again. You're never gonna keep me down."

Maybe Vic could be "I'm Too Sexy" or "SexyBack?" :lmao:

Ok, time to go now. I am obviously delirious from my 7 miler! :rotfl:

Okay--went to the PT this morning....they've been discussing this all week long with me...but I have freakin' scoliosis!!! I'm officially a crooked old lady!:scared1: I've been known to have it for a while...but now....it's official.

Let's see....I'm hypermobile (gumby without the muscular support!)--I'm all over the place (aka the spine minisculing weebles and wobbles as I try to maintain posture..like right now...and it aches while it is struggling to keep me upright!)....the slight curve in the spine...causes torques elsewhere in the spine including the sacrum, which aggravates the psoas...which raises my leg (I don't "notice" per se...but sometimes when I get measured..one time I was off by a knee cap....my knees weren't side by side--how freaky!!!:scared1: )....and with that...the left ITB--that I totally don't notice...is evidently super tight as evidenced by my screams of torture (oh yes--I sometimes scream in therapy!) when we do myofacial release on it.

Now gee--do you think I should understand NOW...why running isn't such a good idea?????

PT is prescribing Pilates classes post-therapy for core strengthening as I will still need a human to guide me through it for the time being...and then Yoga to counter the effects of the scoliosis.

And to think--9 years ago when I got X-rayed in a quack chiropractors office...I actually believed he subbed out the photo with some ladies spine that looked like an upside question mark. I high-tailed it out of there.:lmao: :lmao: I still think he's a quack (and I do see a chiropractor on occasion...this one though was of the ambulance chaser variety)...but I take back my internal accusations of him pulling a switch-a-roo on me.

Not to dwell on the heat last weekend but someone sent me an article from the Atlantic City Press that said only 525 people out of 625 finished the LBI 18-mile race. Apparently people were "dropping like flies" which explained all of the ambulances with sirens I saw all day. My only gripe with the race comes from the spokewoman for the church that organized the race:

http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/top_three/v-printer/story/7507901p-7405718c.html

According to Julie Rosengarth, spokeswoman for St. Francis Church, there was no discussion among those on the race committee to cancel the race, which is a pre-qualifier for several high-profile marathons.
"There was really no way of knowing how hot the day would get, the runners get there at 7:30 and they really can gauge themselves, and many of them dropped out at nine miles. This is an elite group of people. These aren't just your average athletes deciding to run 18 miles," Rosengarth said.

How could they not know what the weather would be like? Have they ever heard of weather.com? I knew the night before it was going to be hot and had concerns.
This is an elite group of people. WRONG. There were a few "elite" runners at the start of the race but the rest were at best experienced. I saw many people out on the course after I left that looked like they had no business running in a 5K let alone an 18-mile race.

Hi ladies.

I was asked to come here and introduce myself. I'm Melissa and separated from my husband for the 2nd time in April so I'm a single mom to Zoe who is 4.
I finally found a new job after 2 months and I start training on monday. I have class in the evening working towards a Medical Assistant certificate. I'm hoping to find some work in a Urgent Care or Hospital for evening shifts so that I can return to college for my bachelors. I am hoping some of my credits already will transfer enough to take off a year. :thumbsup2 Then it is my goal to apply to medical school.

I'm a good 100 lbs overweight and I want to slowly build up to running again. I enjoyed it when I was doing it after high school almost 10 years ago. I did the walk/jog stuff at the high school track and built up. To running 10 minutes straight I was shocked I was capable of that. But I have commited to walking a 5K with a friend in a walk for Autism(her 8 year old son is Autistic) next month so I feel like I need to get used to walking long and long to be ready. So I will use that couch to 5k plan as a walking guide and build up. But definitely would like to continue to use it to get running. Some year I would love to run in one of the Disney marathons since I love WDW so much. :) And of course I hope to lose the weight along the way but I know it will take some time.

There is other #8 stuff around the house as well!! Only problem is we dont care for the night races (can stay awake that long - well DH can't :lmao: )

Just wanted to give everyone an update on my 5k race. I did pretty good considering I wanted to make sure I didn't push myself because I do NOT want to get hurt before TOT. I think I pushed myself too hard on the 1st mile (because I did it in 10.33 and my other 2 miles in like 12 something ) I think the clock time said 34.24 and I had my stopwatch on my phone going but I forgot to hit stop when I went over the finish line. It was Accuchip timed but I didn't look for my times - since the race was right down the road from my house my dh was ansy to get home - :confused3 - so I didn't see the official times. It should be posted (hopefully soon on the timing company's website) My DH took pictures but I am really tired right now so I think I might go take a nap. After that I will work on getting the pics uploaded so I can post them. :woohoo: to everyone who had races today and :wizard: to those who have races tomorrow!!!

Melissa, welcome, you are welcome to join us on the walking thread also.

Vic, and they said I was strange.:upsidedow

Here is a story from PatsFan Bill's past, I'm sure he wanted me to share it:

Young Bill took his new girlfriend to her first football game. They had
great seats right behind their team's bench. After the game, he asked
her how she liked the experience.

"Oh, I really liked it," she replied, "especially the tight pants and
all the big muscles, but I just couldn't understand why they were
killing each other over 25 cents."

Dumbfounded, her date asked, "What do you mean?"

"Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it and then for the rest of
the
game, all they kept screaming was: 'Get the quarterback! Get the
quarterback!' I'm like...Helloooooo? It's only 25 cents!!!!

I did the 10K Classic this morning, the conditions were perfect and the race was very pleasent. The best part was as I was approaching the finish the announcer called out, "Here is Dave Kirgan our first speed walker". There were no walk awards for this race but it was still kinda nice hearing that I was first walker. There were 4,200 total in the race not sure how many walkers. My average pace was 11:54 per mile with total time of 1:13:51.

Have a great weekend y'all.

Then.....

We were getting ready to go out so DDs could run around the block with me and JRT. DD9 tripped over the dogs leash and hit her back. She has a huge scrape and her back on one side is black and blue...I iced it but it looks aweful......bless her heart.:sad1:
