Hi, great board here. Just came back from spending 2 weeks in the cabins and in the second week we were told they have stopped all take outs from Trails End.

Phoned the manager and was told they have now stopped the to-go menu :(
Does anyone know why this has happened and If It will ever come back?

I hope this is not true. We always get the chicken dinner to go and we love it. Anyone who gets further info please post it.

Yes- it's true. Trail's End no longer offers the buffet as take out. They do have a take-out menu that offers pizza, chicken, etc. But, no more take-out buffet.

OH MY GOD NOOOOOOOO!!! :scared1: This was so much fun to go to the parks and get pooped out and lay up at the tt while my dh went to bring back the famous chicken from Trails end. I hope this is a cruel rumor, this was really the way to go for a night that we just wanted to chill at the tt.

If they are still doing the regular to go menu (just no buffet to go) you can have the chicken. We always get the chicken dinner off of the to go menu.

I hate to slow down the post but what does "dh" stand for? It was used a few post up from this one.

Thanks for the help decoding.

"DH" = Dear Husband. "DW" = Dear Wife, etc...

I knew the lunch/dinner buffet to go ended at least last June when we were there... but what about the breakfast buffet to go? Does anyone know if that is still offered?

The take out lunch/dinner menu is pretty good & does include, my fav, fried chicken!! I get one all-white chicken dinner to go, which is plenty for me & DH!! YUM!!

Sorry I didn't make it clear but I was talking about the breakfast only.

I wish they hadn't removed It as I loved being able to pick my own mickey waffles with bacon & sausage and take them back to the cabin and sit outside eating them, I wouldn't even have minded them increasing the price as I found It a good deal for a big breakfast meal.

I guess Walmart Is the winner on the food front on my next trip to the Fort.

I'd like to blame this shift in policy on the smoking peacocks, and the dam otters.

I'm thinking that you could probably get one "to go" buffet meal and load it up and share it back at your site? Or even two "to go" buffet meals and have enough for a family of 4. As opposed to eating the buffet at the Trails End building and paying per person for 4 people..is this right? If that's correct, apparently the powers that be have caught on and put an end to it. Disney wasn't about to let that go on for too long! Too bad, I missed out on it!:rotfl:

That's my thoughts and never realized they had a "TAKE OUT" buffet which quite frankly makes no sense IMHO. When I go to a buffet I would never think or consider it appropriate to ask for a "DOGGIE BAG". You eat what you can when there and leave the rest. Now for a regular fixed amount meal by all means the "DOGGIE BAGS" are great.

The take out buffet's were a good value, but it's not like it was all you can eat carryout. They gave you one square carry out container, a small clear one for salad and a small bowl for soup. You were allowed to fill each thing with whatever you wanted.

Two adult carryouts were enough food for lunch for our family of 5 the next day.

There are many buffet restaurants that offer carry out, so it isn't unheard of. I hope they do bring it back...it seems like so many people liked it. We also liked the convienance of being able to bring the food back and eat in our rv vs. waiting for a table when there was a long wait.

I think that's probably why they've discontinued it. Word had gotten out about it, and families were LOADING up the containers and feeding the whole family for the price of just one buffet.

According to the Manager I spoke with, they are no longer offering takeout buffet for any of the three meals, and there are no plans to bring it back in the future. :(

I had a sneaking suspicion that it wasnt going to last. Like you said, word got out, I didnt have a clue you could do the carryout buffet until I read it here a year ago. Now that the buffet isnt an option do you thin they will expand the carry out menu at all ?

As long as they still have the fried chicken to go, I'm happy. Oh, and their buffalo chicken strips are soooooooo good, as well as their nachos. We always enjoy them when we're sitting at Crockett's Tavern, maybe next time we'll get some to go as well.

I'm just drooling thinking about them right now!

We bought 2 "buffet to go" breakfast's twice during our last trip. There really was A LOT of food. Admittedly our dd7 and two toddlers ate from our to go breakfast. It really was a nice time saver. DH was first to get ready and go get breakfast while I got ready and dressed our little ones.

I wonder if they will now create a breakfast to go menu?:confused3

Personally... I think a Food Court is in order in addition to the T.E. Buffet. Sometimes people want to "grab & go", and the Food Court would allow that option. The take out can sometimes be a bit of a wait.

I think a food court would be a great idea for FW. Where you could eat or come and go with your food..much the way you do at the moderate resorts.

... I loved being able to pick my own mickey waffles with bacon & sausage and take them back to the cabin and sit outside eating them ...

I've solved that problem. I grabbed a Mickey waffle maker from Bed, Bath & Beyond on clearance for $15. Now I can sit outside and eat my Mickey waffles with bacon and sausage any time, any place.

agreeing that the to go buffet was good while it lasted, but as i was doing it, i did feel sort of naughty.....it was truely to good to last.

however, the take out menu as it is, is a pretty darn good value. (other than driving off site to shoney's or KFC - you are hard pressed to get that much food - the family chicken meal - for 20$.) i also hope they expand it, and including breakfast items would be great.

chiming right in there that FW is truely missing a CS venue. we camp because we enjoy it and we like that we can save some money....but i don't want to have to go off site or to another resort to catch a quick take out meal. i also don't want to pay for a sit down meal everytime i am spending time at the fort. and lastly....i don't want to spend a good chunk of my vacation cooking/preping meals. we do that some, but too much and i start to feel like "they" are on vaca, and i am just along to be the maid/cook/chief bottle washer.

I completely agree about the fort needing more restaurant options. We like to do the dining plan because to me, FW is more like a "vacation" and not "camping". We always cook while camping, but FW is about fun and NOT work ;) We don't want to have to come back from the parks to have our meals. Trail's End is nice, but you can only eat there so many times. We also don't always want a buffet or fried chicken (gasp).

We did discover that the meadows pool snack shop has salads and I think sandwiches that you can use as a CS meak. Not much of a selection, but better than always going over to WL.

With the old River Country area just sitting there, they could think about adding another restaurant or food court option. Maybe arrange it around a new wilderness themed pool ?? ;)

We usually eat at TE once for dinner while we're at the fort. Maybe lunch or breakfast too if we're there long enough. If you want the best cinnamon roll in the world it's right there too. I heat them in the toaster oven for a few minutes which makes em better. I only got a pizza take out once. I've never tried the "buffet to go". Seems I always miss the good stuff lol. Does this mean now that I have my own cart that they'll ban bringing them too?

they wont ban them if you play nice.
no smoking unless YOU catch on fire
no drinking and driving, you might spill some.
no squashing peacocks unless they taunt you
no fast turns behind the meadows trading post
dont fling dog poo in the non pet loops
be kind to pedestrians

Hmmmmmmmmmm a great idea. If somebody ticks u off you can ask a dog walker for their bag then go dump it on that persons site. If that doesn't solve the issue stake out the sidewalk behind the Meadows and when said person walks thru there you run them off the path with your cart. Give me more ideas Scott lol. Oh and just so I'm in compliance, I'm going to a golf cart dealer tomorrow to have tail and brake lights installed. Headlights were already installed.
