View Full Version : Minor gripe - "SUBSCRIBING"

This is just a tiny, wee little gripe. :hippie:

Is there a reason why people subscribe to a thread by posting a reply and just typing the word "SUBSCRIBING"??

This really starts to clutter up certain threads and extends them out for no reason. If you are reading a thread you like and want to "subscribe", just select the "Thread Tools" option at the top of the thread and select "subscribe to thread".

Like I said, it's a minor gripe of mine, but sometimes you end up reading a lot of posts that just say "subscribe" and it's a little annoying (Black Friday Buddies thread comes to mind).

FLAME ON!! :dance3:

I have seen that too. Instead of posting "subscribing" why don't they post something meaningful to the topic? :confused3

Sometimes people will put subscribing to an ongoing thread, to bump it up so others can see it. Some people only answer to threads on the first page or so, so some threads get buried. If it is a thread a person is interested in, they may want to draw attention to it to get new responses. I don't think it is always about wanting to just join a thread. I don't think subsribing to a thread the other way would bring the thread to the first page. I am not sure though. I have never myself subsribed to a thread without contributing something, but I can certainly understand why some people do.:)

I can see where that is annoying.

I'm glad it is just a minor gripe. :rotfl:
I think it is especially annoying for the picture threads. I'm a 'slowski' downloader and having all the junk in between that you have to scroll through takes extra long. But it does keep the post up front.
So I guess, we'll just have to put up with a little annoyance.

A lot of people don't realize that you can subscribe to a thread without commenting so yeah they write that. I have seen it before as well doesn't really bug me I find it amusing. You aren't going to get flamed on the welcome board you should have hit up the community board :rotfl:.

Huh! I've been on for a little over a year and I didn't know you could do that. Learn something new everyday :goodvibes

:scared1: Then there would have been a few pages on it  . I think the OP is much safer here :cool2:

add me to the list of people annoyed by this.
Its even more annoying when it gets pointed out on a thread - with instructions on how to subscribe - but people still continue to do it!

I am always happy that a really good thread gets "bumped " or "subscribed" to.
It keeps the thread new and gets more Dis'ers interested in the topic. I really can't see how that would be annoying. It is very easy to scroll past them. There are many threads that I am interested in, but don't contribute to.:goodvibes

I agree and it can be a little annoying , but maybe they need to get their post counts up :confused3

It could very well be. 75 posts is Mouseketeer status and 500 posts is DIS Veteran status. When I joined a little over a year ago, I believe I could start PMing right away; not sure on that though. Now you have to have a certain amount of posts before you can do that.

Maybe so - but like another poster said - they could at least say something to go with it. Or contribute to what the thread is about. That would make it a little less annoying - IMO

Would be interesting to do an "experiment." Post the same thing on CB and see how long it takes for the torches to come out. :lmao:

Subscribing popcorn::

J/k....... It annoys me too. Even if they added one sentence to the thread it would be better than just "subscribing".

Then why don't they just explain that they are bumping it up instead of only typing "subscribing"? I agree with the OP; it's one of those little annoyances of message boards.

subscribing!! HA!! You really need something better to complain about like:
Pool Hopping, using the same mug year after year, cheating the system- stuff like that!! Get real

I better get to the CB fast...I haven't seen the torches. I'm kept too busy with the 3 I go to. Did you post it there??? I'll have to look. :rotfl:
