Hi- I'm somewhat new to DisneyWorld, I'm thinking of visiting Fort Wilderness and camping in the next couple years. How far ahead of time do you need to make reservations for the campground?

What time of year do people prefer for camping in Florida?

Welcome. You can make reservations for the campground up to 499 days in advance. Sometimes you get in right away, sometimes you have to call daily. It really depends on what time of year you are going.

As far as camping in Florida, this will be our first time in Dec. 08 but in the past when we visited DW we went in October because the weather was very nice, not too hot, not too cold. And the crowds weren't too bad.

Hope this helps:)

Welcome! We love to camp in January or Feburary. The weather is perfect for us and the crowds are light.

Thanks!

What's the weather like in Jan/Feb.? We're not weenies for cold weather. My only concern would be getting there and home again safely pulling the camper.

I would recommend making your reservations early for the October months, since with the new reservations system and the popularity of Mickey's Halloween Party, October seems to fill up rather early.

Weather in Jan/Feb is typical Florida winter weather, it can be in the 60's or 70's at night, or it can be in the 30's. It really varies quite a bit week to week, however for the most part you're looking at really mild/cool days and cool/cold nights.

If you're thinking of Oct 2008 make them now. We tried to book 25 Oct to 26 Nov 2008 and couldn't go past 20 Nov so we had to make ours for 20 Oct to 20 Nov.

Thanks! Good to know! Is that because you were doing so many days?

Yep, the longer you make the reservation, the more likely you are to get one during peak times. We had to make ours for 3 weeks next November just to get in during Thanksgiving.

I just made our reservations for 13 days at the Fort................9-28-08 until 10-11-08. The CM told me I was lucky to get get a preferred site. I don't know if that is actually true but I thought I'd share.

We just made our reservations for a preferred site from 10/17/2008 through 10/24/2008. We'll be happy to be back after taking 2007 off.

What's a preferred site?

A site with water, sewer, electric AND cable. Plus, they are generally closer to the boat launch. We always request Loop 200.

How much do they run in October? (2008 for example)

A preferred site will cost $56.00 a night (both during weekdays AND weekends), during the month of October, 2008.

I have this same question. We are going (big family trip) around Memorial Day 2008 but a couple of our family members are being very difficult to nail down on exactly which days we will be going. While I'll be staying in a resort, my parents will be trailer camping at the Fort. I know they will want a preferred site, and I'm starting to worry that they may be filling up. Do you think we're already too late? If not, when do you think it will be too late?

Thanks!!
