There was an interesting segment on NPR today about this. The "Jets" song sounds really strange in Korean.

I've seen a lot of movies. I've seen a lot of musicals. But I've never seen West Side Story.

A few months ago I saw Chita Rivera on stage - she played the role of Anita in the original Broadway production (this is one time I wish I was older so I could have seen it!!). She's amazing. At 74 years of age she was dancing and singing better than most who are half her age. She did a few numbers from West Side Story and it was great.

Probably the closest you will ever get to seeing a video of the orriginal stage version. Here is a clip from Jerome Robbins Broadway.

Mike, you are too much! That is awesome - see, that's the difference between you and I - I saw the West Side Story thread and I started singing, you immediately think "youtube"!!! Thanks, that's a great video.

I still find it funny that Tony yells "MARIA" in an alleyway in Spanish Harlem and only one woman comes to the window.

A classmate of mine in undergrad (Shakespeare 400) gasped in horror when discussing Romeo and Juliet, "You mean West Side Story is a RIPP OFF!"

The class roared and the professor joined us. I felt bad for the poor kid. He had no clue...

Love the clip of the three of them. Good stuff. Thanks Mike!

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: I about peed my pants when I read that. I never thought of that before, but now that I do, it would be like heading over to Little Italy and yelling "TONY!" Boy, you'd have to narrow that down a bit: "TONY! THE ONE WITH STREP THROAT!" LOL.:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

You'd still get quite a few reactions, especially if you were in the rainbow district of Little Italy. LOL.
