Hi everyone
just want to tell you some information on my 1 YO g/baby, Abby.
Here is a pic of her the day of her b/day party - 10 days ago.

I took her to the Dr. today 'cause DD had to be in Homestead. She was giving a Seminar for Verizon. Didn't realize the Dr visit was going to be so very emotional.
Little Abby has a very large red spot around her right breast with a lump beneath the skin. I took her to have it looked at.
As soon as the Dr. saw it he said "oh, we have a very bad problem".
She has Acute Mastitis in the right breast. He drew a black round circle around it and said that if the redness touched the black ring, she would have to be hospitalized ASAP.
He gave her a shot of antibotics and a script that I got filled for Karen.
We have an apptm on Friday am at 9:15 and it is more probable than not that they will put her in and either do surgery or very strong antibotics.
DD is totally a basked case now and I broke down horribly and could not call her until I calmed down.
We'll see what happens in the next 36 hours. We need prayers and pixie dust.
I googled "neonatal mestitis" and I didn't like what I read.
Life just is not fair !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:scared:
thanks for letting me post this

:grouphug: to you and yours. While this is not great, lets hope the antibiotics works and this will just be a scary episode and nothing else.
Your granddaughter is not a neonate at age 1 (neonates are newborns), so the readings you were doing may not apply to her, since her immune system should be better developed than that of a newborn.
I'm keeping you, your daughter, and DGD in my thoughts. Here's hoping for good tidings!

that's correct - I thought about it after I posted. My thought were not exactly when I was searching.
I know we can't be educated enough but sometimes we might research too much and read too much into an article.
I did find some articles on infant mystitis.

well, the night was really good for Baby Abby.
The "circle of redness" is much lighter in color but not smaller.
Looks like the initial shot of antibotics is working.
She still continues to have a fever of about 101.5 but we are working on that continuously.
Looks like she is receiving all that pixie dust coming her way.
Thanks to all - I'll keep you updated

thank you so very much.
The medicine has given her some pretty bad reactions today. It is hard to keep her comfortable. But we take her back to Dr. tomorrow morning and we'll see what he says.
He called her in some more medicine at 6 pm tonight. It was hard getting her to sleep tonight.

Well, it looks like Little Abby is doing pretty good right now.
She has a very red bottom from the medicine and upset tummy, but we are taking care of that. She is eating lots of Yogurt and rice and bananas.
If after taking the medicine for 10 full days and if there is still a little/or any "bump" where the infection was, she will have to have minor surgery (what is so minor about a 1 YO being operated on ???? :confused3 :confused3 ) to open it up and drain it out.
She'll go back to daycare next week and I'll go at Noon each day and give her the medicine, as the daycare is not allowed to give medicine. I'll be happy to do that.
But looking at the whole picture, she is good right now.
Thanks to everyone for your good vibes and pixie dust her way.

I am happy to hear the good news Kay, and I hope for the best in ten days, and NO surgery. I agree, there is NO surgery that is easy for ANY age, especially at a year old.

Kay - That is so much better than before but I will keep saying my special prayer for Abby; it can't hurt! Poor little thing with her sore bottom and tumbly tummy...it always is so hard to watch our little ones be sick.
Send her my cheers!!!
