No problem. I think breezysmom is right...it just depends. On that trip (our only so far to the Poly) we happened to be first! :cool1: But now that I think of it, when the bus driver asked, by show of hand, who was going to which resort, there was no one going to WL.

I'm sure you'll do fine...I'm a long lenser myself (I shoot a lot with a 200-500mm!). It's like a whole new type of photography.

Just remember...when in doubt, get closer. It's freaky...you nearly need to stand on top of your subject, and yet can still fit everything in frame. When you're trying to fit those buildings, statues, etc into the shot, and you can't back up enough with a normal lens...with the UWA you're walking closer and closer trying to get rid of all the extra space in the sky!

Absolutely astounding pictures! I just finished looking through the entire thread. There are so many wonderful pics. It took me several days to get through the thread, but it sure was worth it.

Many trips to WDW, but I've never stayed at the Poly. Actually I've only been there once -at night on a monorail excursion. I had no sense of how beautiful this place is. I'm currently planning a surprise "mom and dad only" trip for me and DW in January. At Christmas I'll have to tell her we're going to WDW for a few days without the kids. She'll think we're staying at Pop, but I'm thinking we're going to wind up at the Poly. Thanks for all the great pics!

Are you talking about the criss cross boards? That is actually the Great Ceremonial House roof. The design for the GCH was inspired by the royal assembly lodges in Tahiti.

It does look like something is under construction but it is really a cool part of the architecture.

It was probably about 30 degrees in that pic. It was very cold fro most of the week. My poor DS had to wear his winter coat almost all week.

We just returned this evening from a few days at the Polynesian. While I've been to WDW about 30 times since I was a kid, this was my first time returning to the Poly since I was about 10 years old! That is roughly 30 years ago.

I'm happy to say the magic is still there, and honestly the resort is very much how I remember it. Yes there have been updates and changes, but essentially it is the same. I even remember some of the smells, especially in the Great Ceremonial House. This was all part of the charm for me.

We booked a Garden View, and I requested the Fiji Longhouse, 3rd Floor, overlooking the Marina. I received exactly what I asked for, and for my money this is the best Garden View in the house. I loved it, and loved being in Fiji. The Great Ceremonial House was almost next door, and we could enter through the side door by Captain Cooks. Very convenient. Our room was not quite ready when we arrived at 11am, so we had lunch at the Kona Cafe and by the time we finished, I had received a text with our room number and that it was ready. Perfect timing!

Our room was very clean and in very good condition. No complaints there. Soundproofing is excellent and everything worked well. We loved the beds as they were super comfortable and just the right firmness for me. No turndown service, and really for the prices that Disney charges all rooms should have this as a standard feature (without asking) as well as robes. I was surprised there was no guest survey at the end of our stay. Most hotels provide this feature so they can continuously improve and identify areas of opportunity. Mind you I really didn't have anything to suggest, but none the less by providing a survey it tells me they care.

It was a hectic visit, as we went to three parks in one day (Hollywood, Epcot, and Animal Kingdom) and they were VERY crowded. This was my first time at WDW over Christmas and it's the busiest I've ever seen it. We also checked out the Grand Floridian and Contemporary (I've stayed at both) and the Yacht Club (which I think I will stay at next time). I love Epcot and the World Showcase, so I think I will enjoy being so close at the Yacht Club. We don't have kids so being by the Magic Kingdom is not an issue. I must say though that the Poly really has a magical atmosphere, as you can often hear the parades at the MK and they pipe in the music for the fireworks at night. Watching the fireworks from the Poly Beach is truly the best vantage point.

Christmas dinner was at the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Review which is very corny, but a lot of fun. I just saw the show in June, but I wanted to go back. It's kind of magical taking the boat over to Ft. Wilderness then returning by boat after dinner, just in time to see the fireworks and water show. Last night we dined at Bistro de Paris at Epcot and it was excellent. I highly recommend it for a wonderful night out, although it's not cheap so be warned!

All in all another great WDW visit. Everyone we encountered had a great attitude and especially the unique "Aloha Spirit" at the Polynesian.

Loved Tokelau :love: ...we had a wonderful view of the quiet pool. Would definelty ask for this building again. :thumbsup2 Away from the craziness of the main themed pool..but then again it's only a short walk away should you want to go over that way. This part of the resort has a very laid back, tropical feel.

The room was in bad shape and for what Disney charges, it was almost a crime, IMO. Like you, my doorknob to the bathroom was barely hanging on and there was several issues. I can't tell you how disappointed I was. Good thing I only there for two nights and I even wrote Disney and complained, but have heard nothing in the 10 months since my last vacation.

Here's the link to my trip report and even though most of the trip was about my 4 days at Universal Orlando, the first two highlight the problems I had at the Poly. Don't get me wrong, I still love WDW and really like the Polynesian, but will only stay at the Poly again if I get a heck of a deal. Here's my trip report link below.

After reviewing all these pictures, it seems the Tokelau building seems to be one of the better ones for a Garden View. Is this an accurate inference?

We are staying there soon and it has been about 7 years since I have stayed there. I never paid attention because it wasn't something I noticed back then. Would love any suggestions.

Just back from a great stay at the Poly! :cloud9: LOVED it!

We were in Samoa, Room 3606 and had a great view! Here is the picture I took with my phone when we arrived...many more to follow!

That was from just outside the balcony doors. If you looked to the right, you could see Thunder Mtn and the Castle (through the trees....was easier to see at night since it was lit up!)

Hi KJF! The camera i used is a Samsung HZ15W. Real nice camera with 10x optical zoom and 24mm wide angle lens. It also records video in 720p HD. I highly recommend it! :thumbsup2

i love the polynesian! i stayed there in august 2008 and am going back in july i cant wait, i stayed in aotearoa in 2008 had a view of trees bushes and plants and the monorail i loved the view it was really nice the landscaping at the poly was amazing, i cant wait to go back everything about the poly is amazing. the grounds were amazing the pool watching wishes from the beach the rooms are nice and huge and the monorail is amazing i cant wait to go back im so excited!

My family and I recently stayed at the Polynesian in February 2010. I had booked a Theme Park view room, but to my surprise was upgraded to the Hawaii longhouse in room 3503. :cool1:

This room was incredible, very spacious and had a great view of the castle at Magic Kingdom. Below I have included a few pics of the view and a couple others from the resort.

We stayed Poly GV CL last year and loved it so much that we are staying Poly TPV CL this coming Dec. The room was very nice and much bigger than the Deluxes that I have stayed in at WDW. I don't think you will disappointed at all with CL at the Poly. :thumbsup2

:laughing: We actually spent a lot of time in our room! We'd go to the parks for a few hours, and return in the early afternoon, and of course were back in the room at nighttime just to watch all the boats going by, the castle changing colors, and of course enjoy EWP and WIshes nightly. It was a once in a lifetime stay for us, and I wish we could afford to do it all the time!

Actully, based on the position of the pool steps, I believe it is Samoa. :)

Hmmm. . .I'm looking at the deep end of the pool to the left of the frame and can see the deep end ladder on the south side of the pool. This would put you around the entry at the shallow end near the bathhouse and facing almost south or southeasterly???? At least that is the perspective I get. That would make it Rarotonga to the south of the quiet pool.

The quiet pool runs east and west while Samoa runs north and south and is located to the west of the quiet pool. I hate to argue with the photographer, but I don't think you can get a nearly east/west photo of the quiet pool with Samoa in the background. :confused3

Your photo of the steps to the volcano pool puts you in between Hawaii and Samoa.

Your photos are lovely regardless of which longhouse you depicted! :thumbsup2

Tess - no problem at all - I was not offended. My husband will tell you I hate to be wrong :mad: but will freely admit it when I am. :goodvibes

I will also admit to being a little directionally challenged. One day on our last trip I arrived at the pool, hot and exhausted after staying longer at the park with half of our party while the other half went back to enjoy the pool. I had my husband point out which building was Tokelau as in my overheated state I didn't want to walk an extra step! (and I was headed toward Hawaii). :rotfl:

We'll be here the week before Labor Day... and it's a complete surprise! (I can say it on here since no one else in my family is on the Dis!) My little sister & Jake don't even know we're going to Disney World, the whole trip is a surprise to them. My brother who's going on the trip with us & my Dad think we're staying at Pop Century. I'm still thinking of a way to surprise them with the news that we're staying here at the Poly!

I am lovin this thread! We are headed to the Poly end of August into Sept. We were there about 5 years ago around Christmas time and it was amazing! One of our most relaxing vacations ever! Anyway, we were in raratonga with a quiet pool view (loved it!) Does anyone have pictures from this building.

I would love to see them. Both for nostalgia reasons and I think I'd like that building on our upcoming trip!

Also, a little off subject, but we've got 2 teens....Anyone know how old you have to be to take out a searacer? Im thinking our 16 year old surely can, but our dd is 13?
