Hi!
Because we are DVC members, one of the perks is the ability to go to pools at other hotels. The 2 that have reatictions now are YC/BC and AKL. So besides those two, what pool would you go to if you could go to whatever one you wanted? The kids that will be in our group are ages 6,8,8,11, and 12 (Not all mine! :crazy2: ) Just looking for some input. I've been to a few different pools, just looking for people's opinions. Thanks!

POFQ, Caribbean Beach and Boardwalk Pools are fun.
We always pool hop when we stay at Disney resorts, never had an issue before since they know we‘re staying in Disney (unless things have changed since 2004), its always one of our favorite things going to different hotels and at times also trying out the pools. Though usually the only pool we hop to is Yacht & Beach club.

we are dvc owners and would love to hop over to y/bc but since its a no no i guess the next one i thought looked pretty nice is CB and WL.. been to BWV and SSR. both nice pools. my kids hopped to y/bc along time ago . dh and i went to walmart and we were staying at BWV and they called us and said you should see this cool pool we found on the other side of the boardwalk-i was like WHAT???? GET OUT RIGHT NOW AND GO BACK TO BWV...it was pretty funny...oh well atleast they got to have fun for awhile ..i still think its unfair that they get to use BWV pool and we cant use theres!

Unless your a member of DVC things did change and the only guests that are allowed to pool hop are DVC members and like the OP said YC/BC and AKL are the pools that are restricted.
So if your staying as a guest of WDW but are not on POINTS with DVC then Pool Hopping is not allowed. I know we used to pool hop a lot before this rule change but I know a few years back they started having you sign a form at check in that said that you understood that "hopping" between resorts to swim was against the rules. Its probably now just in the small print on the reservation check in forms. Hope that helps clarify things.
Now if I could swim in any pool I would say I loved WL's pool a lot and I also enjoyed the looks of the pool at GF.

We've only stayed onsite once (at POP), but from researching (i.e., looking at pictures/reading only), I think Boardwalk pool looks awesome. Love the clown!

We are DVC as well and actually LOVE Saratoga Springs' pool. We always pool hop to it every trip.

We've done quite a bit of pool hopping since joind DVC.
The sleeper hit of our last trip was the Contemp. I don't think I've ever heard it raved about, but it was great with a slide loads of fountains and it never got really deep.
The suprise disappointment was the Poly. It was 3 in the afternoon and the number of smokers and drinkers shocked me. DS loved the slide though.
GF, CBR and CSR are nice, but we couldnt really fill a day at any of them.
We really like the BW and WL. SSR and SAB are our favorites.

I guess I'm the "odd my out". We don't usually pool hop, if your using disney transportation just seems to take up too much time getting to the various resorts just to use a pool. Of course it may also have to do with the fact that our home resort is BCV so we have access to SAB.

I don't pool hop. Like someone else already said it just seems like to much work to me. But anyway...I am the odd one out but I would pool hop to POR. Back when I was a child when it was Dixie Landings and before we owned DVC we used to stay there all the time. I LOVED that pool. I am not sure why. Nothing that special about it. I had a very plain slide but it did have a big waterfall over one the one side and that was my favorite. I guess basically just for the memories I would choose it to pool hop to.

We pool hopped on our last trip and only did a park for one day... and let me tell you... between travelling to the different resorts then sitting by the pool and grabbing lunch/ dinner in different restaurants it was sooo much FUN! (and we were 3 adults... 18, 23 and my mom in her 40's)...
On another note: my mom is a DVC member and we were NOT staying on points during this trip. We stayed at POR .... we contacted the front desk about pool hopping (b/c my mom had proof of her dvc membership on her) the front desk said that we were to approach the front desk at the resort where we wished to swim at and ask if it was busy and get approval by the manager... we had no problems! :thumbsup2 ...just PROOF of your membership!
We went to......
Contemporary Pool (now one of our new favourites... its just different)
Grand Floridian (quiet pool was VERY quiet)
Polynesian pool (spent more time sitting on the beach... really!)
Boardwalk (great as always)
Conronado Springs (very nice)
...we went to Wilderness Lodge but it started to rain
.... I have up to day 3 of my trip report complete. I must be a crappy writer or something cause nobody has posted any comments about it.. im gonna bump it and add to it (its called Mom and her girls do Disney)
*my trip report might be helpful to any other DVCers cause we kinda did a a double pool hop/ lunch -day out of it thing!

No... you're not the odd out.... we never pool hop either.... unless it would be SAB, it is just another pool... I go to the ocean for my thrills...

I read a magazine article, and Coronado was listed in the top-10 U.S. resort pool areas.

THat may have worked for you but it is not the way it is supposed to work. You are supposed to be able to pool hop only when staying on points. You are supposed to show your DVC card, as well as your room key.
But, I'm another one who just finds it to be too big a hassle to pool hop. But, since we're usually at BWV, the pool is just fine for us. Luna Park is actually our favorite pool. My dd, almost 14 now, prefers it to SAB....go figure.

Before we had little ones, CSR's pool was my favorite. Now, zero entry is a must. I think that the newer GF pool and the SSR pool are great set ups.

We like Poly in the evening but mostly becuase we can see Wishes after a swim.
Didn't pool hop there yet but stayed at CSR once before DVC and the Dig-Site is awesome.
Do you really need to chekc at the fonrt desk? We usually just take our DVC card with us in case we get checked.

We will be staying at SSR in March 2008. "Provided" the weather holds out (doesn't turn too cold), DS6 really wants to try to Keister Koaster at BWV. We visited BWV on our last trip.......DS6 could not take his eyes off of this slide. What a monstrosity.
We talk about this slide nightly as an integral part of his bed-time story.
Sure hope they don't black out access to us during peak times like Spring Break.
We will have to stay at BWV sometime during the summer, with a pool view.

We don't pool hop either. My kids are older now, but even when they were young (and before the restriction on SAB), we didn't. Once I took my son over to SAB, he liked it - but really preferred the slide at BWV, longer, and more twists. I like the quiet pool at BWV, and I think the only other pool I'd be interested in is at AK. Just my HO.

we stayed at the ssr in april which has a great pool/ slide setup (main pool) but one day for fun we took the boat from dtd back and got off at okw. that slide is fast! it shoots you out and twists you around, plus the pool area seems bigger than ssr and it has a beach for kids to dig in. liked getting food at goods to go and hanging out/eating while kids played in the sand right there.

We've either stayed or hopped to just about every pool.
I liked:
Poly for the location and groovy, kitch-y Poly-themeing - really nice in the evening.
CSR is just an awesome pool - super-cool themeing and with the best playground around - plus a great food court nearby.
POR - has two neat (and very different) pools that you can walk between or hop on a boat. It's kind of hard to watch little kids in the FQ pool, but there are TONS of lifeguards.
SSR - great atmosphere, zero-entry, fast slide, lots of recreation activities in and around the pool

So let me get this straight.... DVC members (and those staying on/renting points??) can hop to ANY pools (with the exception of those mentioned) not just other DVC pools? Did not realize this....

It REALLY dont think its a big deal... we are DVC members... we pay (and were paying) our $$ to Disney. Think about it now...
And NO I don't think you have to check with the front desk to pool hop cause we never did in the past when staying on points. The only reason why we checked with the F/D is b/c we were informed to do that by the person we spoke with at POR (where we were staying)... just b/c we weren't staying on points that stay. But like I said I guess DVC id is a MUST
On a side note, we were never approached by any lifeguards.... maybe cause we were there end of Aug and thats not a "peak" time? ...we thought that was weird.

We seem to always end up at the Poly pool because we just like to go over to that resort, swim for a while, eat at Ohana and sit on the beach at night to watch the water pageant and the MK fireworks.

I didn't either. I thought is was just DVC resorts (w/exception of BCV & AKV). If this is the case, I can definitely see a trip to POLY volcano pool for a night-time visit to swim and watch fireworks.
Not sure why I would want to hop to the VWL pool. It has a quiet pool only I think.

Pool hopping is a benefit offered to DVC Members who are staying at a DVC Resort on points. We are required to check with the hotel where we desire to pool hop before doing so. Some people call ahead, some show up and check in then, but it is required. You must have your Blue Member ID DVC Card and your KTTW card also.
Pool hopping can change at any time. It is not a permanent offer, but a perk subject to change. There are some blackout dates for pool hopping, and Stormalong Bay as well as the AKL pool are exempt.

no-only members staying on points can pool hop. If you are renting points you are not a member and therefore can not pool hop.
We pool-hopped at the Polynesian one afternoon after a morning at MK.
DH thought it was too much of a hassle to carry a backback with our swimsuits and goggles and such - change into them to swim - change out of them to travel to another park, etc. etc. The kids and I enjoyed it.
I have to agree about the Contemporary pool - we took a boat from WL to the CR on our last trip and noticed for the first time how nice the larger pool is.
But the fact is that our favorite pools are at BC and AK and so we purchased 200 pts each at BCV and AKV.

We've hopped to the Poly (at night, after a dinner at O'Hana's) and the Contemporary (mid-afternoon break from the MK) and have (yes, I'll admit it) enjoyed Stormalong Bay several times while staying at the Boardwalk (the whole "wristband thing" at SAB is highly, highly overrated, thanks to apparently endless Disney staff cuts).

We are pool hopping fools!!
Here are our picks Husband and I (43 yrs old) kids (10th and 7th grade)
1. The Yacht and Beach Club - There is nothing to say - it is simply perfect
2. Polynesian has the fastest slide, best daiquiris and Pina Coladas (virgin and otherwise), the beach is great, the scenery is stellar! Downside - pool can get packed in mid afternoon
3. Coronado Springs - Great music (rock and top forties), cool volleyball court, outdoor bar has t.v.s for sports, the slide is cool! Downside - it is a healthy walk to the pool area, the water is on the cooler side.
4. Contemporary - cool
5. Wilderness Lodge - nice, but too much like Michigan
6. French Quarters - cute when the kids were little - we still swing over for beignets
7. Boardwalk - can play good music, clown is a bit freaky looking (just my opinion) the pool is warm, there are always lots of children (hmmm..maybe that explains the warm pool..ha ha just teasing).
8. Old Key West - it is way better now that there is a slide, serene setting, low key, good music. We usually stay at OKW, because the rooms are so much bigger and are pretty, but we rarely use the main pool - it is nice, but we like the Poly - we would rather pool hop! Late at night we always use one of the smaller pools - we choose a condo next to the pools.

The Poly! All pools except SAB are basically the same to us. So we go for atmosphere. The Poly pool/beach can't be beat!

We don't usually pool hop, but when we do we prefer
Poly
CSR
We usually just enjoy the pool where we've booked, but occasionally the urge to change surroundings does hit us!
