Active - Holiday Gift Tag Swap - Due Dec 1st [Archive] - The DIS Discussion Forums

I did this a couple of years ago and thought it would be good to do it again. You would make gift tags that can be attached to wrapped presents or gift bags.

Tags should be at least 2x3, double-layered, and embellished at least twice. Somewhere on the tag should be a "to:" and "from:" so the giver can fill in the names.

"Embellished" can be, but is not limited to: inking, chalking, distressing, stickers (puffy or 3d is better than flat), chipboard, sewing, Prima flowers, beads, ribbon, tearing, stamping, embossing, die cuts, etc.

I will set up groups of 8, and open additional if there is interest.

Group 1 - General holiday theme - 1 tag per participant

3 - 123SA ***received***
4 - aprilvaca04 ***MIA***
5 - piratesmate ***checked in as of 11/6***
6 - Mickster ***received***

Anyone interested in other groups like Princesses or other Disney characters?

I was thinking general holiday as in you don't have to limit yourself to only red and green, but wintery stuff like blue/silver or gold and such. That way it could be used for Christmas or Hanukkah gifts. Obviously, those with Christmas trees or Santa Claus would have a more Christmas theme, but I do not want to exclude any of our DIS friends from getting involved :)

I don't think so. I really need to work on some pages, I haven't scrapped a page in 2 months. Plus 2 CJ's, the swaps I need to finish, MLP's book. I have my plate pretty full and I don't want to drop it. And the MEGA 2nd chance swap needs my attention too.

Were pictures ever posted for the previous gift tag swap? I'd like to see a few to make sure what I'm planning is appropriate.

Also, if there isn't enough interest for another full group of general holiday tags, I wouldn't mind doing 9 so clh2 could join that group...or if there aren't quite enough to fill a 2nd group I'd do that group also to help out.

Actually I have a question...are we making only ONE tag per person for a total of 8? Or are we doing the usual 2 tags like we do for element swaps? :confused3

Okay everyone, we are closed and active. I added clh2 to the first group so we are now a group of 9. I hope that's okay with everyone.

On the 2nd group, since there are only 4 participants, do you want to stick with 1 tag or do you want to double up and go to 2 tags each so you get 8 back?

If you are in one of my other swaps, I can combine shipping... just let me know so I can coordinate it on my big spreadsheet. :)

I will send out mailing info this weekend. Have fun swapping!

I laughed on one of the very early posts - about "can you do any holiday" because I'm the one who did the 4th of July tags last either last year, or the year before. I get it now.:thumbsup2

Just as an FYI - I won't be doing a gosh-darn thing relative to this swap until after I return from a vacation at the end of October. I just have too much to do - in addition to greeting cards for a different swap.

I am hoping to get started on this soon. I want to make sure I understand..I am making nine tags for the December holiday, but not necessary red & green in color. It can be red & green if I want? Can I use Christmas embelliashments? Or should I try to keep it more generic?

I took the "general" group to be whatever we chose to do: Christmas or Hanukka. I did Christmas. I was going to ask if anyone preferred Hanukka, but Joy requested that we not mark individual tags for specific people so I figured it wasn't an option. Personally, I don't really have need of Hanukka tags - although blue ones w/o a menorrah would work. ;)

I am sorry I had to drop out, I have had so much going on here and I just don't have the time I thought I would. My Grandfather passed away recently which was extremely hard on me and this past weekend, my daughter was in the hospital with pneumonia. She is out of school this week and still sick. :(

I'm so sorry for your loss as well. Prayers and pixie dust for you and your family.

But, on a side note, I have finished my 8 tags. They are neither terribly Christmas -y nor Hannukah -ish, but I think they are festive. They are aqua and silver. The colors just spoke to me. They will go postal with the 12 x 12 calendar swap. (Of course, that is shades of aqua, but that is another story for another thread...:rolleyes1 )

Help!!

How are you getting To and From on your card? My tag is the from Tags & Boxes etc, Cricut. It is cut at 5 inches -- it is not a small tag. I have tried the smallest letters I have and I think they are just too big. I really think it would look better hand written -- not by me but by the eventual gift giver. Any suggestions? The tags are ready to go except for the To and From.

On the Mickey tags, I used two different to/from stamps and heat embossed that on to the tags.
For the pooh/tigger tags, I used two smaller tags. One has to and one has from using the negative with a different color shadow underneath.

I went to ACMoore looking for To/From stamps or stickers. I could not find anything appropriately sized. My options are

1. hand write to/from

2. not include it at all and leave it up to the gift giver

what do you think?

Couldn't you make it fit on the back of the tag? All my tags are two sided (and double matted on both sides to boot. :rotfl: ). That the was the only way I could get the to/from to work and still be embellished.

What did you do exactly? My tags are finished. I should have thought of this before I completed them. I really thought my stamps were the right size.

I printed mine before I embellished (only one side, but I used something kinda cool...:rolleyes1 ). You could print and mat. That would work. You could even hang something from your main tag - that would be different!

Good ideas! Thanks! I like the idea of the double sided tag, but I left a blank space on the front of the tag. I think I will give hanging something off of the card try. If that doesn't work, I'll just start over and keep these tags for myself.

My modge podge tags have the to/from tags hanging off a Karen Fosters ring binder clip with ribbon on the ring. They look pretty cool, but main tag is not double matted, hence the two Mickey tags.

Joy - you still don't have them?!?!? I'm getting nervous now. I sent 3 packages that day, one of which went to Shauna out there in CA also. She got hers last Thurs or Fri...and I notice that Buffy hasn't gotten hers yet either! :eek: She's much closer & should have had them by last Weds!! :confused3

If you don't have them by tomorrow, please just swap out everyone else's & send them out! I'm too busy right now to re-do them and these are kind of "need them now or not at all" - you know? When (if??) mine do show up, you can just send them back to me. It wouldn't be a hardship for me to use all the same kind.

Maybe you could just take the ones intended for me & distribute them among the others so that each person gets 2 of something. I'm really sorry, but I don't know what else to do. I didn't bother with DC this time. :(

Well I am not surprised. Everytime I mail something to my sister in CT it takes way longer than it should. I mailed her stuff I cut from the cricut on a Monday for a party she was having on Sunday ... it didn't get there in time! It took a full week for a 9x13 envelope to travel from NJ to CT. I think even the pony express was faster!

Anyway...piratesmate there is still hope! It may show up.

As far as I know Buffy never received her package either. I did end up redoing all of her stuff & sending another pacakge. I apologize for not doing that with the tags, but since people needed those quickly (for the holidays) I just didn't think I'd have time to do both.
