View Full Version : FULL/ACTIVE - 12x12 Calendar Kit Swap - POSTAL BACK TO YOU!

bubbasmom99

What a great gift idea or keep it just for yourself. Scrap a year of photos and put it up on the wall, and when you're done, slide the page into your album for posterity!

Each swapper will create 12 sets of elements for their kit, consisting of the following:

1) Topper - 12" wide and at least 2" high, indicating the month, embellished at least twice. This would actually go on the bottom portion of your calendar -- it should cover up or line up with most of the blank calendar templates sold at scrapbook stores. If you want to make your own, you can print a blank 8.5 x 11 calendar to adhere to 12x12 cardstock and place this topper at the top.

2) Photo mat - must be able to accomodate a 4" x 6" picture, embellished at least twice.

3) Quote item (tag or other shape)- must be a quote or song lyric related to the month or season or layout, embellished at least twice.

4) 2 of the following (should be coordinating or embellished to coordinate):
- 18" of ribbon
- 6 buttons, brads, or eyelets
- 1 coordinating chipboard item
- 4 deco squares
- tag (at least 2x3)
- set of 2 slide mounts
- license plate frame
- paper piecing
- journal box

5) Optional, but would be fabulous: Sketch - please include a sketch (I will make copies for swapping) for a suggestion on how to layout a 12 x 12 page using your kit. That way, life will be sooooo easy when putting it together.

"Embellished" can be, but is not limited to: inking, chalking, distressing, stickers (puffy or 3d is better than flat), chipboard, sewing, Prima flowers, beads, ribbon, tearing, stamping, embossing, die cuts, etc.

I hesitate to label this an "advanced" swap, but there are a large # of elements to be completed in a short time, so this may not be the ideal swap for a newbie swapper to participate in. However, if you are up for the challenge, I would welcome anyone to join in!

Important disclaimer... (I want to roll my eyes, but it needs to be said): It is fall. People are busy with school, sports, holiday preparation. Please do not sign up unless you are able to commit to finishing (and on time!). I don't say this to be snide or snotty.... we have had issues with returning things on time and I just want everyone to see the results of their hard work as soon as possible. It would be horrible to have someone plan to give this as a Christmas gift if it didn't show up on time :( Okay, 'nuff said... let's swap!!!!

so it's just the elements then right, not a 12x12 sheet of paper too?

UGH I want in but I'm not sure if I have time. I should, especially with the Cricut. Hmmm, I'm going to think about it.

bubbasmom99
09-23-2007, 12:44 AM
No, you do not need to include 12x12... that would be for you to put together when you get it back.

Darn, I really wanted to make my own calendar this year, but with all the elements involved, I don't think I could get this done in time and be up to my normal level of creativity.
Can't wait to see photos of what everyone makes. :thumbsup2

bubbasmom99

I will leave it up for this coming week, I think... I think there are some people who don't DIS on the weekends, only at work :)

MazdaUK
09-24-2007, 05:10 AM
Fancy Dis-ing at work! How shocking:snooty: Wait a minute....where am I?:lmao:

I'm going to use mine for my 2008 album instead of a calendar - I couldn't bear to throw away all our hard work at the end of the year:goodvibes And it save the complication of finding a calendar:thumbsup2

Please change me to non disney december thanks!

bubbasmom99
09-24-2007, 10:16 AM
I have updated with changes so far... thanks for the PM calanniebu. I have eliminated the 2nd Disney group since it looks like we'll have just enough for one group.... I can always reopen if there is interest in a 2nd.

Does anyone else have interest in a different size? Like for 8x8 pages? It would be fewer elements since 8x8 is less real estate.

calanniebu
09-24-2007, 10:18 AM
an 8 x 8 Disney Calendar one might be nice. I'd be in for that one.

bubbasmom99
09-24-2007, 10:43 AM
Okay, I will post a separate signup to see if there is enough interest....

MazdaUK
09-24-2007, 10:43 AM
As I'm using mine for a scrapbook 8x8 would work for me - I use 12" CM books so a 12" topper would need a slight trim anyway:)

have we lost a few? I thought the non-Disney group was almost full:confused3

Since I don't have kids ... I'd prefer that it not be Back to School but if that's what the majority wants, I'm okay with it.

My little one won't be in school either so something else would be better but I could make whatever work. Also school here starts in August but I'm not sure about everyone else.

Our schools go back in September, but I can see it wouldn't work for everyone. Just like Labour day, Thanksgiving, 4th July or anything to do with basketball or football (not soccer!) doesn't work for me, and Christmas maybe doesn't work for everyone. ;)

How about something generally autumnal? Leaves and stuff?

I didn't think of all the holidays you don't have.

How is Easter for everyone for March? Its pretty early next year.

For July my sister was thinking 4th of July with red/white/blue but I think we could switch it to more of a beachy/poolish theme if that would work better for everyone?

10-10-2007, 01:12 PM
I was thinking about doing fall stuff for september - but in New England fall is more october - november.
maybe we need to list what everyone is doing so we dont duplicate - I can do fall leaves for september but I dont want it to be the same for october or november
what do you think
Jennifer

happypooh
10-10-2007, 06:12 PM
Fall would be nice for september...or autumn as it usually officially starts in september...even if the leaves change color in other months....

MazdaUK
10-11-2007, 04:30 AM
I'm happy with Easter in March as that is when it is this year, adn I'll be using this in a scrapbook rather than a calendar. As for July, I've had a month swap where the July kit had lots of stars and things, but they worked well for DS(14)'s drama and orchestra shows :goodvibes The colours are not a problem as they match ours:rolleyes1

Those autumn months are a problem! They are so similar! And we have fireworks in November, but you don't. How about some vegetables/harvest festival-type schemes for one of them? (Don't all fight at once!) For us, September is when the home-grown apples first come in, so that would work for school and the month :thumbsup2

I'd rather you take your time than end up with three January's;) :lmao: It must be a horrendous job - bad enough sending one out without doing 12!! :earseek:

Hi everyone (very sheepish grin here) -- I am going postal tomorrow. I'm sorry it took me a week to finish swapping this out for you. The vacation really messed up my household routine. I'm taking my boxes out to the car right now and getting ready to prep my USPS labels... Can someone shoot me Jennifer (logan&tyler'smama)'s address? I can't find it... I have the stamps and the thank you note, but I already chucked the mailing box.

Thanks so much for your patience! I know you'll be thrilled with the results!!

Thanks! My bad for waiting but I honestly was not ready to tackle that stuff last week... I am still holding on to a couple of things because I've got one person MIA on the 8x8 swap -- hopefully we'll hear from her today, and we'll have everything resolved!

OMG, two diff people getting an extra September... I suck....

Well, I thought I was doing well until things started running late and then the other 2 swaps had issues... and well, the list is a mile long but the bottom line is that I probably won't be hosting many swaps anymore. Besides the fact that I just get too disorganized to host, I am also cutting back on my swapping in order to focus on building my photography biz.

I am out of town at my parents house right now but I will check my set when I get home to make sure I don't need a september.

Those things happen. I will send mine off when it is found to be missing, since it is September unless it is for a Christmas gift it can be a little late as September is a bit of time from now.

I would have to say that I loved the roladex swap you hosted earlier this year and I love the things I got back from this one as well. I hope even if you aren't sure about hostessing you will mention your ideas so that others can hostess them.

The September is mine. I'm missing September topper and elements, plus another set of elements for either June or July - I have one set with "summer" stuff which I think may go with June, it has flip-flops on the photo mat and water squirty stickers.

Luckily January is all present and correct so it won't hold up my monthly scrapboook too much ;) but if Rebecca and whoever has my other bits can sned them to me I'd be very grateful.

Thanks :)

Those definately sound like my June elements. They should have all come in their own big ziplock baggie. The June title also has flipflops on it. I hope you find them all. Let me know if you are missing anything. :thumbsup2

My sister did July and I bagged them with my March stuff. Can you see if its all in the same bag?

Marion - I'm so sorry about the inconvenience. I had to package your stuff separately to get it fit in the global priority mail envelope or else it would have cost alot more to get to you, or would have taken longer...

I will send you my September since I am packing up some of my RAKs for you too.

I can send out the September to whomever I need as long as they can wait until after the holidays- I don't have time to even address another package before then.

OK, so I've got June elements and need July. I didn't open up the baggies, so I'll open March when I get home (how could I bear to leave them at home :confused3 Its all so beautiful I just love to gloat over it  ), the bags were all intact so if they were packed together that's where they'll be. :thumbsup2 Then if Rebecca sends her September to Joy, Joy can send HER September to me with my RAKs and there will only be one overseas package needed.

Joy, I'll be walking your $$ to the mail after school run tomorrow - I'll put a bit extra in as the postage was so :scared1: - I forgot that once it goes over 12" it bumps to the next category. :guilty:
