Ink question

What is the difference between versamark and cats eye? I mostly use cats eye, but should I look at Versa too?

What ways are you wanting to use them?

I just recently bought my first cat's eye inks, the liquid chalk ones. I'm liking them. The other ones are pigment, right? Those would be colored for use with clear embossing powder.

As for VersaMark, the only one I have (or have seen) is a "clear" ink for making watermarks, embossing (with colored powders), or chalking on. (Haven't used that one much lately.)

I like my catseye.... I think they are really easier to work w/ when inking...but I'm a leftie so I may just think it's easier! :)

The cats eye is great for using on the edges of the paper and things you want to dry fast.

The Versamark is great for detailed stamping. But not so good on the edges of the paper, unless you remember to NOT touch them too soon. Walked around with blue fingers and striped palms because I don't pay attention to me. It does come off if you scrub.

AWM, so does Versa Mark have colors (ie blue;) )? My Versa Mark is just clear. :confused: I didn't know there was any other Versa Mark.

Yup. VersaMark is a brand that Hobby Lobby sells. It does come in colors. I've never tried to use the colors to emboss with like the clear one, so I can't vouch for that.

I guess I should have been more specific. I was ACM last week and they have started carrying the Versamark tear drop shaped inks, but I had no clue what they are for. I am rubber stamping and ink challenged. LOL

I use my cats eye for edging and distressing, and I have a basic black and brown ink pad for the stamps I have. Which BTW I have a ton cause they are just so darn cute. I just have no idea how to use them!

Anywho, I was just wondering if it was a must have.....

It is a more intense color than the cat's eye chalk. The VersaMark is considered a Pigment ink, not liquid chalk. So it'll give you a different effect when using it. I think it works better on thicker paper, like cardstock, than the the thinner paper.

I don't think BAMB is speaking of the stamp pads. Since you said teardrop, I think you mean the VersaMagic DewDrops.... they are chalk inks and there is really no difference between then and the cats eye inks, just manufacturers and shape! I have both and my first set of chalk inks was the versamagic. I do like that the versamagic sets are usually several different colors in the same tonal range vs. a lot of the catseye sets are one color in several ranges.

Ah, so my LSS instructor was mistaken in her assessment of the inks. She prefers the Cat's eye brand over the teardrop shape and she said it was because of the intensity & drying time. When taking a class, you don't want to wait for things to dry.

Anyway, I am a complete idiot, because my pigment inkpads are ColorBox, heck that doesn't even look like VersaMark. Where is the hitting oneself in the head smilie?

The DewDrops marked as VersaMagic are all chalk.

BUT.... to further confuse the issue Tsukineko (the manufacturer) has just started making the dewdrops using their Brillance inks sooooooo, those would be as your instructor described.
Tsukineko makes the DewDrops, the VersaMark which makes the watermark effect or is used for embossing, Staz-On solvent based ink pads which really do stay on anything and the Brilliance pigment ink pads.

Just a tip for getting ink off of your skin, use toothpaste. DS once drew all over both of his legs with permanent markers (the old smelly ones) and the toothpaste is the only thing that worked.

I'll link you to the thread that we have. It's a crop retreat in Florida at WDW. They have them all over the east coast. We (the scrappers here) are spread out all over the US and UK so we decided to try to plan a meet but we needed something far enough in advance that we could all plan to go.
