Anyone stayed here before cruise? We're driving and got a good rate. They say they're a mile from port and have a free breakfast. Any comments on the pool, layout, cleanliness, etc..?

'Dave' has done a lot of research on the port area accomodations, and has posted the information on his website - click on the map to see exactly where the HIE is located:

Also, here is a link to a coupon for the Holiday Inn Express on www.roomsaver.com

It's a pretty new hotel... in pretty good shape, but it's several blocks from the beach... a walk that includes crossing busy A1A. The pool is small and protected from the weather, but still outdoors. It's 5 miles from the cruise terminal.

Hi this is Shirley - I live close to the Holiday Inn Express and can say it is a very nice layout and the Durango's Steak house, Perkins. Beachwave (for tourist shopping) is just accross the street - there is a stop light that can stop traffic for those that want to cross A1A - In the back of these places you have the Cocoa Beach Pier and of course the beach - If this is where you decide to stay - make sure your vehicle is parked close to the hotel since this is where discruisers last May experienced a terrible act of vandalism to their very expensive truck occuring on the morning of sailing - we had to take over their truck and oversee the repairs in order for them to be able to make the Magic - those responsible were never found - When you call for reservations, make sure you ask if there has been any other problems since the Buttimeres incident - if you run into any problems, just call the shop and we will help in any way we can.
I believe there has been a better control in security.
Stay safe
Always,
Shirley

If your purpose is pretty much to stay there the night before, then it is a great hotel. We did this and the hotel was nice, the staff was very nice and the breakfast was decent (and included!). I can't comment to much on the pool since we didn't use it but it looked exactly as Dave mentions above. The same goes for the beach. There are plenty of places to eat, etc. We found it to be a perfect "night before" hotel. And, we had rented from Avis and dropped our car at the Radisson which was very close and on the way to the Magic. We'll be there again in October when we do our $99 Magic weekend!

We are going to try out one of the Kids Suites in May. If you are sailing after then, I will be glad to tell you what we thought when we get back.
