Pet Rats?

Heya, i was reading this book :] and now i really wanto get a pet rat :D

I think it would be cool sine my mom is always yelling at me to get off the computer, so instead i can play with my rat :]


I would much prefer a dog. But my parents dont want to get one because, it could chew up the furniture. And they would be all like " Go outside at 5 in the morning and walk the dog ". So that would never work. They also wouldn't want one for the medical bills, etc.


Any Suggestions about a pet rat?

I had pet rats many years ago and they were great.

The only bad thing is make sure you get them from a good dealer. Some times they inbreed them and they are more prone to get diseases. Nothing that is harmful to humans so don't worry about that.

Could you get them from like. a pet store? We have one in our town. But im not sure if they sell them there :] otherwise i will need to check elsewhere.

Oh. and if they get the disease, what will happen? will they most likely die?

I have 4 rats.

Theyre very intelligent, but dont put 2 males in a cage. Just get one male. They'll kill each other. I have 4 females, but we started off with two. Lucky us, they each had 10 *ADORABLE* babies, which the store failed to mention.

One they were large enough we took them back except 2, one from each mother. So now we have the two mothers (sisters) and their 2 children. Tis one bick happy rat famileh.

You might also try looking at the Humane Society close to you. I know when I volunteered at the one near me, we often had many cute rats looking for homes. :)

I got my last male black rat from the SPCA. :)

Yes those are good places to get them. Don't get them from big chains like Petmart. Not to single them out. It's just the supplier they use to get the rats. Yes I used to have males and females and they would breed. Then I'd sell them to my local pet store. The female rats would have babies once every 1.5-2 months.
