I have never posted on the Gay and Lesbian Forum, for one never had a reason, and for the reason I didnt feel I had a right to be here. But after passing by on the way to the DVC forums, I couldnt help but notice the Jesus Loves Me out to the side of recently posted(sorry, not very computer savvy:confused3 )not sure what you call that little sidebar.

I watched the trailer and for a long time as a Christian have realized that homosexuals as a group arent accepted into religous communities.

I live in the south where prejudice towards all kinds of folks is alive and well. Heck, it is that way all over the USA.

My parents raised me to not be so ignorant to group people together, white, black, hispanic, male, female, homosexual or heterosexual, etc. But rather to take people as individuals. I wish all people were that way, but the only ones I can really influence are my kids to be that way.

I am of Baptist faith(which I dont really like to admit, afterall it is a manmade thing and nothing really to be proud of). In fact I am trying to rid myself of any kind of religous tie other than being one of Jesus followers. If I get flamed, well thats the chance I take.

So here goes..JesuslovesALLofus. And He wants the best for us. I try to get the point across that Jesus didnt hang with snoots of His day, He hung with thiefs, murderers, prostitutes and the like, people whom we just as soon wash our hands of in todays society like they did back in Jesus time. I hope people will accept me as who I am, an overweight washup of a homebuilder. Believe me, I dont hang with the snoots either.

Im not trying to preach. I have friends who are homosexual. I have clients who are homosexual. I try my best not to judge them. But I tell them the same things I say here. Jesus loves you just as much as He loves me, and just as much as He loves my neighbors.

As my dad told me growing up, who died and gave us the right to judge:confused3

I just couldn't pass up that topic name...I don't post here often as I'm straight (although not narrow), but I am also a Christian who learned firsthand just how much strife it can cost when a very, very close family member is forced to live a lie because of bias against gays. The God I worship loves everyone, and the Bible I read teaches me to accept others unconditionally. It drives me crazy when people use the Bible as a way to "justify" (and I use the term loosely) their own personal hang-ups.

As a counselor, I work with many gay/lesbian clients and I plan to pass this link along to them. Many are struggling with unaccepting families who pin it on God and the Bible. Maybe this will open some minds or at least cause some people to realize that there are many ways to interpet.

Dang! Closest showing is in Santa Fe (and that is quite the little trip!). The trailer got me wondering -- Is Anita Bryant still around?

If by "around" you mean "alive", yup, she is (she is 67).

Yeah -- I did the Wiki thing too after I posted -- and it was just about what I remembered/expected... BUT I sure never knew Kathy Lee was AB's husband's secretary! (that puts SUCH a "six degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon" spin to it) I also never knew she was unhappy in her marriage. That could explain -- not excuse -- an awful lot.

I saw the trailer and the one thing that stuck out for me was the quote. "Fear does terrible things to a society". In my neck of the woods (south jersey) there is a big debate about a new video the school board purchase for the family education classes. The big controversy? One of the families in the video is 2 women and a little girl. Amazing in 2007, we're still afraid of anyone not just like us.
Definitely will have to check out this film.

Very cool! I should pass it along to me dad. He's a United Methodist minister and was already working at helping his congregation become a reconciling congregation even before I came out (to which his reaction was "Ok." Which floored me as I was braced for almost anything but just point blank acceptance. It's awesome though.)

Thanks for sharing!!

I saw this film this weekend. All I can say is if you have even the slightest opportunity to see this work, then please do so.

Bring the biggest, most entrenched homophobe you know (if you can get that person to go, of course) with you. It may very well make a difference in that person's life.

This should be essential material in every high school.

I jsut saw this link and am going to try and make the two hour drive to see this at a theater near me!!

I am just beginning my studies in Human Sexuality and am increasing intersted in LBGT issues.

The great thing about this film for me is that my mother and I were just having this very conversation the last time I was hoem visiting. I told her I was interested in attending my local MCC church so that I could get clarification of the Biblical teaching that are out there about this "sin". My conservative Christian mom pleasantly surprised me when she asked me to get her information. She doesn't agree with what her church teaches...but is in conflict internally and wants scripture and verse to back up her feelings that this should not be condsidered "damning" by the church.

I can't wait to get this on video....she lives in a small communtity where this movie would. most likely, never get shown.

Thanks for teh link....I will definitely be passing it on!!!

I saw this when it was here in Orlando. It is a very powerful movie. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Watch it. Invite friends to watch it. Loan the DVD to others to watch it. Get the message out.
