I wrote to ask when they would be opening. They responded back with a rather vague, "the first week of November" so at least we know that we should be able to get some Christmas shopping done! Maggie

I will be heading up there Friday with DH. I'll see if they have it started and see how far along they hopefully are!!

We ended up out at Discover Mills tonight due to gift hunting needs. The only open space in the 5th section, where it appears that the DSO is going to be, is directly across from the opening of Medieval Times. There are the usual black drapes hung across the storefront glass. We peeked through the tiny openings in the drapes and saw that it's still basically a blank canvas in there, unless they are going to sell the wheelbarrow that I saw for cheap!

They have several weeks to work their magic. I can't wait to see the final outcome! Maggie

Too funny! We ended up there tonight also! DH is looking for some type of wader to keep his legs from getting muddy while 4 wheelin. I didn't even get a chance to head into the mall as it was 8:30 when we got there. They need to hurry and work their magic though!

I have to tell you, I was not "wowed" by it

To me it looked like the same merchandise that was on the sale rack at the regular Disney Store, just more of it.

Not sure what I was expecting, but I don't think I'd make a special trip just to go there.

The Coach outlet, on the other hand, I'd make the trip. ;)

When I first read this post I thought that this was one of the Disney Premier/Character outlets like they have around Orlando. That would have been great news. After rereading now I see it is an outlet for the Disney Store (now run by the Childrens Place). This will just be a way for Childrens Place to re-cyle the junk they currently have in their stores. I wish Disney would either take these stores back and merchandise them properly or just close them all together. Unless you have a need for a princess dress and a stuffed animal, the stores are terrible.

I have been happier with TDS recently. They are offering adult clothing, some of it is really nice stuff too. Not much variety, but it's getting there. They are offering some new decorative items for the home too. I think there is hope. TCP has taken their sweet time with making the much needed changes, but they have at least started now.

The store at the Gwinnett Mall is being rehabbed and looks much better, heck some of the animation is returning to characters that have been standing or sitting still for ages. I take this as a positive step.

I heard a rumor that the merchandise at the DSO will have inventory from DisneyShopping as well as TDS. I am hoping that is true. Time will tell. Maggie

Cool, will be nice if it actually has some nice adult and home items.
We are in Canton / Woodstock GA (up 75 to 575N) , we will have to head over and check it out.

Someone please post when they know more about when it will be open.

Thanks,
Steve

I just called our local TDS at Gwinnett Place Mall. The scoop is that there are construction delays, so they have postponed the opening until after the first of the year. Sorry guys. Maggie

I heard from a friend that it's now open. She didn't go there herself. :sad2:
Any reports? I am not sure that's it's worth the drive.

I live in Charlotte, NC, and we just got a Disney Outlet at Concord Mills mall. It looks pretty much identical to the photos on the other thread. We had fun browsing around- although I didn't feel there were any more bargains than at the "regular" Disney Store at Carolina Place.

We went to the new Disney store today. The store itself was nice and interiors were great. There wasn't any merchandise we weren't interested in. My wife and I had a long discussion about whether it was because it was an outlet store or because the current Disney merchandise is just not up to par with the products they used to carry when it first opened.

The products looked very cheap. The same quality that one would find on the shelves at Walmart or target. I remember that going to a Disney Store would be a fun experience with finding new and interesting clothes, music, Videotapes (before dvd's lol) and now it just doesn't have any imagination. Perhaps Dreamfinder and Figment should be put in charge of the stores.

Disney doesn't actually own the Disney Stores anymore. They are owned by The Children's Place. They sell Disney tickets and Disney Dollars as a tie in to the Disney name. But I talked to an employee at our store and she told me they used to get free tickets and discounts just as the park CMs get. But now, since it's Children's Place, they get no Disney bennies. That is why you may notice the quality, variety and discounts have changed.
We've actually noticed that our Outlet has the exact same things as the mall's Disney Store- at the same price!!!!

Thank your for the clarification on who owns the Disney Store. It is beyond me why Disney would let their name be used in this fashion. It degrades the Disney image in my opinion.

Wow....they used to be so cautious about the Disney image. I remember them suing a daycare center that painted some Disney Characters on the front. This was worse than that....LOL

Can you buy park tickets at the Disney stores?

Can you buy park tickets at the Disney stores?

Yes, but only up to 7 park days, for some reason (you can buy up to a 10 day ticket online or at WDW). The prices are no lower than buying them on the Disney website. I think the tickets from TDS are the credit card style, though- other ticket sellers send out the "paper" kind that some people don't like as much.

If it were a Disney character outlet, then I would be excited. I don't do much shopping in the Disney store outlet anymore. But I hadn't heard about this, so thanks for sharing!
