How Formal is Formal night

Another family we are traveling with has a ? about formal night.

She went to a very formal wedding (Black Tie) So she wore a gown (very formal). Always wondered when she would ever where it again. Is a formal gown to formal to wear on formal night?

IMO a formal gown would not be too formal. She would fit right in.

On the 1/19 cruise there were formal gowns, cocktail dresses or pantsuits, or just nice 'church dresses'. For men there was everything from tuxedos to suits to shirts with no collars.

Wear whatever you like and feel comfortable in!

Did I read in some other post, that Thur night is considered more formal than Sunday night? What I really want to know is if you have one outfit that is more formal, which night would you wear it on??

Sunday is the formal night and Thursday is the semi-formal night.

I felt it was VERY formal... and next time my daughter and I are going to dress to the 9's!
