I'm retired, work part time at a local company. The owner of the company has had a difficult life the past 15 years. After facing other serious problems, she has been battling cancer for 3.5 years. First round she was cured but the cancer recurred around her esophagus. Surgery is not possible because of the location. She has been so brave through it all. Chemo has kept it from growing but will not shrink it, so she will remain on chemo for the rest of her life or as long as she can handle it.

Today her house caught on fire. The police are there now because a break-in occured and arson is suspected.

Her name is Kathy. It breaks my heart to see what she is going through. I'd appreciate any prayers you all could lift up on her behalf. Thanks!

OMG she is so in my prayers and thoughts. My aunt is going through lung cancer right now so I know prayers help.

PRAYERS and HUGS being sent your bosses way!

Your continued support of this person is a true gift from you to her. As a cancer survivor I know the strength you draw from those around you during the difficult "healing and surviving".
May she continue to be strong and may there be Good things coming to her VERY soon!

Oh dear. My first thoughts were, "A friend of mine is in a similar situation." But when I read about her house, I couldn't believe it. It is just terrible how bad things seem to happen to good people and then compound. I'll be sure to keep Kathy in my prayers. Tell her we're all sending good thoughts her way.

Thank you all again for your prayers. Kathy is having a really hard time dealing with this. The Red Cross gave them $250 to purchase some new clothes, and the local American Legion is also helping them out. (I forgot to mention her son lives with her.) She did have insurance on the contents, so eventually everything will be taken care of. It's just these first few days, weeks that are tough -- living in a hotel room with virtually nothing except the clothes on your back and the dog - which thankfully she had brought to work with her that day.

Such a terrible story.. all except the fact that she had her dog with her on that particular day. That there is the silver lining we all hope for when tragedy strikes. Yes, I am an optimist and always look for the tiniest grain of positive I can squeeze out. To me, the fact that they were all spared their lives without injury is a blessing.

Many Churches also provide support on a local level. I myself volunteer with bringing elderly and ill people back and forth to Dr's Appointments, Shopping, even helping a blind woman move this next week. Maybe if you, or your boss, ask around you will be able to find a wealth of help you never knew existed. Try places of worship and then try thrift stores which often operate to fund outreach programs. You'd be surprised how many  are walking around with us every day.... I'm not saying I am one, I just try to be like them.

Kathy will be in my prayers. How awful for her.

"If God brings you to it, he will bring you through it"

Let her know many will be praying for her. And what a wonderful person you are for reaching out to her.

Thank you all again for your prayers. The police have determined that the fire was indeed arson. She's been spending the last several days meeting with police, fire dept, insurance adjusters, etc. No monetary help from insurance yet, which is a problem.

Update -- Kathy is now back in the hospital. Doctors have given her little time to live. She has been able to move back into her apartment, but her cancer is constricting her esophagus and now her aorta. She can eat only liquids or very easy to swallow solids, and the constriction around her aorta will eventually cause her to have a fatal heart attack.

The company I worked for has been moved out of state to the co-owner's location. I've now lost my job and facing losing a good friend, too.

Thanks for letting me vent!
