Visiting the Atlantis

Can you visit the Atlantis Resort and look at their aquarium without paying for a room? We would really like to visit their aquarium on our own time if we can.

Yes you can. We did this last year. Quite nice, though very pricey. We also had a picnic setup for us on the private Atlantis beach.

I got the feeling there were many people there that day who were not guest of the hotel itself.

The ride over the time we went was very scarey. Our boat almost capsized as the ferry hit one of the concrete columns of the large bridge that spanned the bay. No one had on life jackets, and my son cannot swim and he was only 4. People were panicking and I managed to grab a life jacket for my son, stuck it on his head tied it far faster than I ever though possible. The boat was damaged and a few people got hurt but once the boat stabilized in the water the boat limped to the nearest pier and we got off. The ferry operators dont give a dime about your life, and they are more than willing to push the boat to both it load and speed limit without any regard to safety. Please be careful.

We saw the ferry boat taking folks to Atlantis and if it were in the US, the Coast Guard would shut them down in two seconds. The boat looked very overloaded and unsafe to me. A taxi was only about $5 per person plus tip & toll but got you to Atlantis very quickly.

They do charge about $25 to view the aquarium but since we got off the ship first and took the taxi, we beat the crowds. We looked were we were supposed to pay but it was so early they had not even started checking.

With the taxi, we walked the aquarium, did some gambling and were back on the ship in time for lunch!

Did you buy the tickets to view the aquarium at Atlantis itself? Is that $25 total or 25 per person? As many times as I've been to Nassau, I haven't visited Atlantis, and may want to do that this May.

so you mean a regular taxi?.....as in car (not a water taxi)....
i'd much rather go by car than by boat if possible...

also, as i understand it, the water park can only be used by hotel guests...is that true?

The Atlantis Resort facilities can be used by anyone checked in at the Atlantis or the Comfort Suites.

Take a land taxi versus the water taxi. There will lots lined up both at the dock and Atlantis. The aquarium is about $25 per person (yes it's expensive), not sure if it's worth that much. But you can buy a ticket there according to their brochure I had.

Be advised that lunch at Atlantis will also set you back a small fortune. Using taxi's got us back in time for lunch on the ship - takes some of the sting out of Aquarium price.

I also read in other forums that in order to use the taxi, we need to get the price confirmed prior to getting into the taxi. Is this correct??

With that in mind we are looking at $20 (family of four, one way) plus tips (how much?) for the taxi and then $25 per person for the Aquarium only. Right???

$5 pp each way. And yes, taxis aren't metered, so you need to agree on the price before you get in the taxi. You need to make sure you know who's paying the bridge toll as well.

to see the aquarium is $25, to use the beach facility it's $30 total. Disney charges $60 for their excursion. I say SKIP it. It's a hotel. You cannot get beyond the lobby/casino without a pass. Stay on the ship or find another excursion...nassau is a dump. When the biggest tourist attraction on your island is a hotel...you're not what I'd call a world class destination.

You couldn't pay me to get on one of those water taxis. I think some people pay the fare before ever seeing what horrible shape the boats are in. They look 1/2 sunk, and dirty, and completely unsafe. I would recommend a land taxi, I think that the price is mostly set at $5 pp one way. Not sure if I would be willing to pay $100 per family of 4 to see an aquarium. I'm leaning toward a nice relaxing beach day at blue lagoon, or staying on the ship for free and enjoying the beautiful boat. Nassau is busy, hot and crowded. We once took a snorkeling excursion run by the cruise ship, and the boat that took us out was nice and safe, it was a great excursion. I think either staying on the boat or taking a DCL excursion would be the safest bet. Good Luck, Sue
