No. Thanks for reminding me, I meant to put that in. What I had everyone do last time was submit a notecard with "ksjayhawks, Thank You, Group 1" but I think with just one group per card type, we don't even need that!

I have supplies for 2 of my 3 groups. I'm still thinking about the other one. I started my thank you cards.

I am confused about 2 things. I've only done the recipe swaps and we made one for ourselves to be mailed back. After reading clh2's message, it sounds like we only send the others' cards and we won't get one of our own back, right? Also, matching envelopes - do you mean to embellish or decorate the envelopes or do we just include the envelope? The only thing I do to envelopes is sometimes line them in matching paper. Would that be ok?

Thanks.

Cathy

Cathy

It is up to you if you want to send your card to me and then I will mail it back to you or if you just want to enclose a notecard for that group with the group name and your name. Either way you will have one of your own cards. I know with the larger swaps it is easier to send in for everyone in your group and then get your own back as well. But our group is not that big--is up to you though.

Some people stamp or put stickers on the envelopes, some line them--I think that looks so sharp! If it is a larger size or square card it is nice to have the matching size envelope. I sometimes use the colored blank cards that have the matching colored envelopes, so I would include that. You can also just include a plain envelope.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and thoughts.

I was at home from teaching job that day--last monday--as I just didin't feel well. I woke up earlier in the day, ate, went to do my pt exercises and fell back asleep. Got up and went downstairs, threw in a load of laundry, felt better, was talking with my mom (who lives with us) about making dinner and all of a sudden I got the sharpest pain in my left groin that shot up and down my left leg (my surgery was in my right knee). I almost fell down. I dragged myself back upstairs to get my pain pills and took them, then tried to get comfortable but couldn't sit, stand or lay down. Massaging my leg did no good and I couldn't walk well--it felt like many bad cramps all at once. I thought I had overdone it during the weekend and that was why I was in pain. I overcompensate for my bad leg with my good leg and thought I had pushed it too far.

Finally I yelled down to mom to call Cathy, my neighbor, to come over and bring some ice packs up--thought that might help. When she came up, I got in the recliner and when we went to pull up my nightgown (yes, I was still in it)--she gasped and said look at your leg.

It was purple, swollen, tight, but the major pain was gone. I tried to call my drs--got voice messages, called my dh who had just left for Canada that day and just arrived there. Finally Cathy said we are going to the er and off we went. I scooted down the stairs. I could hardly drag myself to the car as I could put no weight on the left leg--thank goodness I had crutches and her to help me.

Cathy asked me which hospital to go to and I said I don't care. So, she picked the one here in our city which turned out to be a godsend. We got to the er, I was in a room within minutes having blood drawn and an ultrasound and admitted and in a room in less than 2 hours--they didn't even get all the admitting paperwork done before I was in my room.

Called my dh and he left the next morning at 2:30 a.m. and got here at 7 p.m. after quite an ordeal of flights, but that is another story. I was so glad to see him.

Turns out I had one blood clot from my "belly to my ankle" (the drs words). I have what is called May-Thurnin (SP?) syndrome. It is rare. I had to remain flat on my back, completely still--liquid diet--until Wednesday evening at 10 p.m. when I was able to get up for about 15 minutes, then back to bed til 8 a.m. the next morning (Thursday). I was finally released Friday evening at 8 p.m.

During my stay I had about 8 hours of invasion therapy/care. I had an iv in my leg to put blood clot busting drugs directly into the clot and a catheter for the waste. I also had an iv in my hand giving me a blood thinner as well. Then they would work on me for 2 hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. I had to roll over on my tummy--try that when you haven't moved--and they sedated me. It was very agressive and wore me out. But it worked, they got 100% of the clot above the knee and most below. I have a stent and am on blood thinner meds--I give myself shots twice a day for at least 5 days and take pills to get to a certain level. I get tested every morning for 5 days. If I reach the required level, it will be diet--watch the potassium--and pills for 3 to 6 months. If I don't, I will have to do another round of shots. Each syringe costs $70--$700 for one round and I only had to pay $35 copay, can you believe that. Hopefully I will not have to be on the pills the rest of my life, but if I do, I do.

I was fortunate that the internal radiologist handling my care is one of the top three in our metro area--he had 6 years of residency alone in this plus advanced training since then. When he talked to me the first day he said he thought I had the syndrome and that he had been researching all night to figure out what to do and that he would get rid of it. And he and his staff did! When I was there the last time, I was coming out of the sedation and I heard him go "YES!"

So God was definitely looking out for me when I told Cathy to pick the hospital er. If we had turned the other way and gone to the other close hospital in the next city, I wouldn't have had the specialist that I needed and who knows what would happen.

They think I had a blood clot that was moving and hit a "kink" and exploded down my leg. It could have been from the surgery--dh says I was moving so funny and awkward after the surgery, even though the pain in the right knee was gone and he thought I didn't seem right. I was always so tired, but attributed it to the surgery, so ??? Or it could have been a clot that I have had for awhile.

I was blessed to have a great sub who put together a lesson plan on blood clots, got internet resources for the kids, had the school nurse come up and talk, and then had the kids write reports. Talk about a real life application of science! He is here again this week.

So I am at home til Weds when I will go to school for 1/2 day in pm, then to school 1/2 day in am on Thurs. Fri is professional day so will do 1/2 or full, depending. I am on restrictions--am to try to build back up gradually, but not do anything for an extended period of time--sit, be at computer, walk, etc. I should be able to go back to school full time next week.

I am so glad to be home, though I got wonderful care in the hospital! The food tasted wonderful when I could finally eat it! The worst was that some of the lab techs had trouble drawing blood so my arms laand hands look like battle zones. When I went in today and the tech saw my arm, she said "oh, you're the one who had THE blood clot last week" so I had my 15 minutes of fame, at least in the hospital. She remembered some of the techs saying how hard it was to draw my blood and it was being done 3 to 4 times a day along with blood pressure, temperature, etc. Thank goodness I has on pain killers and morphine every hour to help me rest.

My fellow teachers and staff at the school I teach at and members of a sorority group I belong to are bringing us meals so I don't have to worry about cooking, another friend brought my mom and ds14 snack foods, fruits, pizzas, soups, etc so they would be able to survive til dh came home. Another friend came and sat with me every night. Cathy brought my mom up several times. Other close neighors came by to see me and ran ds places and checked on my mom. I think it was the worst for my dd as she is in CA and we are in KS and I could tell she wanted to be here so badly and I wanted her here as well. She couldn't see me like ds could and that didn't help any.

Anyway, it is over and I am on the road to recovery.

Sorry this is so long. Again I appreciate everyone's concern--it means so much. Keeping sending the prayers and pixie dust this way!

Outside of card. The sentiment is heat embossed. The flower on top is doubled Sizzex die cut, ribbon and striped paper.

The rest of ribbon (because I couldn't figure out how to hide the ends) with singles of the Sizzex die cut.

See, very simple, but I used good paper & ribbon.

Mine will be in the mail in time - I did run into a little glitch. My printer cartridge is dying and I needed to print something in my office as I didn't have time to get a new cart. Of course, I printed then left it laying on my desk. Will finish up tonight and get in the mail tomorrow.

Shauna, I worry too (I still feel like a novice compared to the rest of you) and I have lots of prototypes sitting on my table. Don't worry so much - easy for everyone else to say. We'll love what you create!

Well, I cheated.

I just looked through the Stampin Up catalog and found a layout I liked. I think it was supposed to be a Halloween stamp and it had raffita instead of ribbon, but I used my "Thanks so Much" stamp & ribbon. Using the heat embossing & inking all the edges gave it my own flair and I think a nicer look.

TwoPeas is nice to look at, but gosh I don't think I could reproduce any of those.

angelmom
10-24-2007, 12:44 PM
I use my stampin up book the same way. I find a card design and use different stamps and stuff, but it gives me a layout. I can find cards on 2 peas that are not too complicated. I find most of their scrapbook pages are different from how I scrapbook-Rarely do I have a page with 1 picture or even 2!

I do have some other websites for inspiration: Archiver's Idea Site (http://www.archiversonline.com/ideas/ideas.asp), as well as the one for Hero Arts (http://www.heroarts.com/cardmaking/index.cfm) and there are also some ideas in the online Paper Crafts Magazine (http://www.papercraftsmag.com/gallery/index.ihtml?category_idx=39#imgTop)- which usually combine scrapbook paper into their cards.

Hi Ladies!

I just posted on the main board but wanted to update all y'all. DH's grandmother is having open heart surgery tomorrow. We are both really close to her and when the doctor advised family to be close, we dropped everything and headed out to Florida. We spent most of the day Saturday making arrangements for a pet sitter, flights and packing and took the red eye out Saturday night. We will be in Florida at least through the end of this week.

Unfortunately, I was not able to complete my cards before I left. I had planned on mailing today but left all of my stuff back home. I am really sorry about this but I won't be able to get the stuff finished and mailed until next week at the absolute earliest depending on when we come home.

I would hate for all y'all to wait for me so please do go ahead and swap out without my stuff. I'm really sorry. I've never flaked on a swap before but I just can't give you a timeline with this family issue going on. I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.

Y'all are so sweet. The surgery did go well but she is still in ICU and we don't know when she will be downgraded. DH and I are staying at her house and handling the bulk of the packing so we have to drive 1 and a half hours each way every time we go visit her. Between packing, driving, visiting and worrying, I'm not sleeping more than a couple of hours at night. I wish I had brought my scrapping stuff with me because I sure could use something to do with my hands.

As it is, I've grabbed a set of her knitting needles and bought some yarn to work on knitting something for her. She taught me and I figure I'll show her that I really did learn and can use what she taught me.

This whole experience has been really difficult and emotional. For one, we had to leave our kitties with a pet sitter for an undetermined amount of time and I'm worried sick about them. They also help keep me calm so I'm really suffering from not having them to de-stress with when I'm so wound up. DH is really stressed by having to be around his family alot so we are dealing with that as well. It's just hard to be out of your element.

Thanks again for waiting. I'm really sorry but we will hopefully know something soon. I'll let y'all know.

ddavis and mickey's friend--your packages have arrived. Cards look wonderful!!

Shauna

Thanks for the update. I hope that the knitting will help to relax you--it can be so hard to be in an unfamiliar place, especially when there is a lot of stress. Take care of yourself and dh, too.

Glad the cards got there ok.

Shauna,

So sorry to hear about your Grandmother. I hope things continue to progress. I totally understand how your kitties keep you calm - I feel that way about my puppies. Take care.

Grandma is being moved to a regular floor tomorrow morning and we are flying home Tuesday afternoon.

I know I won't be able to do any scrapping until next weekend because I'll be catching up at work. To be honest, it would be a weight off my shoulders if y'all decided to swap out without me. As much as I hate to flake on this swap, all of this turmoil and stress has me exhausted and now I have to go home, get caught up and then fly out again on the 17th.

If y'all really want to wait, I can try to finish next week and then mail around the 12th. Just let me know.

I understand why you would like to drop out. The extra stress just isn't necessary right now. Really, it's not like we can't use two of our own in this swap. We just have to remember to not send that card to the same person twice. :lmao:

I am totally OK with getting any spares back if Shauna feels this is one straw too many for the camel's back. I can well imagine sticking bits of paper onto cards is not top of her list at the moment :thumbsup2

Shauna, really, you are not being a flake... to me a flake is someone that disappears, no communication, just poof :teleport: gone. (Sometimes they end up on another site, fine and well...but I digress...and that's a different swap)

I don't have any prob with getting doubles back on my cards. Take care of yourself. Swaps are supposed to be fun, and this is adding WAY too much stress!!! :grouphug:

Shauna,

I wouldn't worry about this swap at all - you've had more important things on your mind and this is just adding to your stress. My vote is we let you off the hook and you quit worrying about "flaking". In the grand scheme of things, this isn't near as important as your family and your sanity.

Update:

I was not able to get to the post office this week.

The gradebook that we use at school is a computer one and mine disappeared totally--cannot be found. So I have spent the last week reconstructing it! What a pain!!!!!!! I am almost done--should finish tomorrow--we give out midterms on MOnday.

So, I am hoping to get to the post office Saturday morning.

Sorry for the delay, but wanted to keep everyone informed.

I am not having a very good fall this year. This is strike three--knee surgery, blookd clot, grade book--so I have had my share!;)

The good thing is that you've had your three and the rest of the year will be fantastic. It's the rest of us that have to worry now! What a pain to have to redo your grade book. Sometimes computers are not our friends!

All the packages except for ddavis860 and chl2 and mazdauk have been mailed. The po closes at 10:30 so had to go to grocery store and the clerk on duty didn't know how to do delivery confirmations and couldn't do the overseas package. So will go after school on Monday.

The cards are sooooo nice!

Thanks to everyone for being understanding with all that has gone on--with me and Shauna.

To those who sent hostess gifts, thanks so much! :cool1:

Ladies - I really am bummed that I couldn't participate in this. I would have loved to have a stash of beautiful cards to send. However, given everything that has been going on lately, I just couldn't make it work. I am deeply appreciative that y'all were so understanding.

This Thanksgiving, as we give thanks for all that is good in our lives, I will be sure to include my DIS friends. I appreciate all of you. :flower3: to you all!
