By Philip Pullman? No-one I've talked to ever has.. :lmao:

It's a Great Book, and it's being made into a Film as we Speak to be released on December 7th, to be Released as the American Title "The Golden Compass" :) It will have a lot of stars in it; Daniel Craig and his Bond Girl to Name a Few. I am Reading the Trilogy as we speak.. :woohoo:

Anyone Read the Book at all?? :) I'd love to meet another being that has.. :rotfl:

Yes, it's part of a series called "his dark materials". "The Amber Spy glass" is another...

My eldest DD has read it twice (she enjoyed it :thumbsup2 ) and keeps on at me to read the trilogy before the film comes out. Actually I'm in the queue as middle DD is half-way through it.

I'm still working my way through the Harry Potters!

Yes, I read the whole series last year (and I'm 45). It was great writing and had me gripped until the end - but it was one of the saddest stories I've read. I was so drained and was actually crying real tears by the end of the third book. I'm not sure if younger readers would find it as emotionally intense as I did.

(I kept hoping for a happy outcome with each book but it never came! But then we're so conditioned to expect a happy outcome I suppose Philip Pullman was being brave not to follow the expected course.)

I don't think I'll see the film when it comes out.

I have seen the film advertised and am looking forward to taking DD. I did not know it was based on the Philip Pulman book, I must get a copy and read it before I go. Thanks

It's a Fantasy Style Story with a little bit of Sci-fi-ish-ness to it, with a hint of philosophy too!

I read them a few years ago and really enjoyed them. They're currently in the queue for a re-read at some time.
I tried to get tickets for the play at the National Theatre a few years ago. They did it in two parts but there was only a limited number of performances. They were madly oversubscribed and needless to say I didn't get one!
